In Episode 462, Patrick, Jeffrey, and Craig chat about French news and Romanian movies and then discuss five mostly baseball topics. 1.You've got no right to be depressed, you haven't tried hard enough to like it: The Mets, Padres, and Red Sox have all hit the skids, can they pull out of it?2. I've got the players inside the computer: And now we have their swings to analyze3. Around the Horn: Paul Skenes is not being traded, Sunday Night Baseball may be headed to NBC, and Justin Verlander won't pitch for a bit. 4. What to Watch: Craig picks the Dodgers, but not as often as you think. 5. A listener-submitted game so it's better than the regular games. Well that was royally mid. (Sorry, couldn't resist.) Our anti-monarchists briefly reference the very blah Royals series, sing the praises of Hayden Birdsong (KAKAW!), feign shock at Justin Verlander's move to the IL, and lament streaky offense. Then, they do the unthinkable and call out Jung Hoo Lee. (Someone has to!) Also, they discuss how the Giants can get better but they don't say the "T" word. Our new cocktail podcast, The Perfect Sip, is on hiatus but new episodes are in production. The Brewers went 3-3 vs. the two Chicago teams but looked like they misplaced their edge, as manager Pat Murphy put it. The Cubs, right now, are clearly the better team; how can the Brewers narrow the gap? Journal Sentinel reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe break it all down. Another great showing from Freddy Peralta, a litany of starting pitchers on the road to return, very rough showings from Tobias Myers and Quinn Priester and a demotion after a blowup outing for reliever Craig Yoho. Can the offensive struggles simply be alleviated by Christian Yelich and William Contreras turning a corner? What's up with Trevor Megill? In Three Up Three Down (43:30), Tyrese Haliburton is mad about a first pitch, Megill celebrates a great catch with an even better dance and the Shane Smith Revenge Game goes Milwaukee's way. In Remembrew When (1:02:15), it's May Day with a father/son twist and in Curt Blanche (1:07:30), something is missing from the AmFam experience. Then, JR is joined by Daz Cameron (1:17:15), who had a nice day Sunday. They talk of course about his former Brewers father, the 2008 season, a home run on his father's jersey retirement day, getting traded for Justin Verlander and his fresh start with the Brewers. Send us a textAbout 1/8th of the season is past so you can pretty much take #MLB player stats and multiply by eight. Tyler Soderstrom of the #athletics s is not going to hit 72 home runs. But #yankees AaronJudge could definitely finish with 56 or more homers. Umpire Hunter Wendelstedt was taken out by a line drive foul ball last week in the #Mets #Twins series at Citi Field. Hoping that he's going to be ok but it was a scary thing. Is the National League really that much better than the American League this season? It may seem so at first but it's too early to be certain. Might be that the top #NL teams #Padres #Dodgers #Cubs #Giants #Phillies and Mets are stronger than those in the #AL where the #Rangers & Yankees stand out. Is Manny Machado a sure-fire HOFer? He plays 3B which is generally underrepresented in the HOF. He's closer than you think and is in his 14th season of a stellar career. We talk about the slam dunk HOFers playing (Verlander, Scherzer, Kershaw), and others who are probably already there as well as those knocking on the door.Intro & Outro music this season courtesy of Mercury Maid! Baseball season has returned, and Jack is back for his 2025 Major League Baseball season preview. Jack welcomes Aberdeen IronBirds (Baltimore Orioles High-A affiliate) play-by-play broadcaster Michael Marcantonini back to the show, for a comprehensive look at all six divisions. Mike and Jack kick things off with the AL East, a division Mike is very familiar with. The division has seen three different champions over the last five seasons. Will the New York Yankees repeat as AL East champs, even after losing Juan Soto? Last year, the Orioles took a step back from their 101-win season in 2023. Could they return to the top of the division, even after Corbin Burnes and Anthony Santander departed as free agents over the winter? The Boston Red Sox were very active in the offseason, trading for Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox, and signing two-time All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman to a three-year, $120 million contract. Will it be enough to return Boston to the postseason? Mike and Jack also share their thoughts on the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays. On deck, Mike and Jack put the AL Central under the microscope. Four of the division's five teams have seen a quite a bit of preseason betting action... with the White Sox coming off a record-setting 121-loss season in 2024. The Cleveland Guardians, Kansas City Royals, Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins all posted winning seasons last year. Who do Mike and Jack like to win the division and snag a Wild Card (or two)? Then, the fellas turn their attention to the AL West. The Houston Astros have won the division seven of the last eight years. The only year in which the club has not won the West since 2017 came in 2020, in the COVID-shortened, 60-game season. In each of baseball's last seven full, 162-game seasons, the Astros have been AL West champions. However, the Astros bid farewell to Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, Justin Verlander and Ryan Pressly over the winter. The club doesn't appear to have much coming up through its farm system in the near future. Are the Astros still the team to beat in the West, or is their run reaching its end? Will the Seattle Mariners finally win their first division title since 2001? How will the Texas Rangers bounce back from a lackluster 2024, one year after winning the World Series? What kind of steps forward might the Los Angeles Angels and The Athletics take in 2025? Michael is a lifelong Philadelphia Phillies fan, so he is enthusiastic to weigh in on the Fightin' Phils' chances entering the coming season. How will the Atlanta Braves fare after losing ace Max Fried to free agency? Michael and Jack discuss the Mets' highly-priced addition of Juan Soto, and share which teams from the East they are projecting to make the playoffs. The Chicago Cubs are the betting favorites in the NL Central, despite having made the postseason just once over the last six years. The Milwaukee Brewers have reached the playoffs seven of the last eight years. Why aren't the Brewers getting more love? Michael and Jack debate. Jack believes that the three best teams in the National League all play in the NL West. Which of the three does he have winning the World Series? Jack explains why the greatest threat to the Los Angeles Dodgers' World Series defense may come in the National League Division Series. Finally, Michael and Jack share their World Series picks. It's an episode of the Jack Vita Show that you will not want to miss!
