Episode 302The biggest sporting event in the world is finally here. The 2026 FIFA World Cup has kicked off, and for the next several weeks, the M3P Podcast is coming along for the ride. This special World Cup episode is a celebration of soccer, nostalgia, community, and the memories that make sports matter long after the final whistle blows. This summer, we're following four teams throughout the tournament:
Episode 301 marks the beginning of the next chapter of the M3P Podcast. After celebrating 300 episodes, we're back on the front porch doing what we've always done best: checking in, sharing stories, laughing about the weird things that shaped us, and exploring the nostalgia that connects us all.We start the episode by setting new milestones for the road ahead, reflecting on where the podcast has been, and discussing where we'd like to take the show next. It's a conversation about growth, creativity, community, and keeping the porch light on for anyone who wants to stop by and hang out.Along the way, we revisit the classic sayings our parents, grandparents, and family members repeated constantly growing up—those phrases we swore we'd never use ourselves... only to catch ourselves saying them years later.⚽ World Cup Memories & Soccer NostalgiaWe take a trip back through our favorite World Cup memories, childhood experiences with soccer, and the moments that made international tournaments feel larger than life. Whether you played on local teams, watched matches with family, or simply got caught up in the excitement every four years, we talk about the emotions and memories that sports can create.
Three hundred episodes. What started as a simple idea, a microphone, and a conversation has grown into hundreds of hours of stories, nostalgia, pop culture discussions, wrestling debates, gaming conversations, book reviews, community moments, and friendships built along the way.Episode 300 is both a celebration and a reflection on everything that has made the M3P Podcast what it is today. We kick off the milestone episode with a recap of Summer Game Fest, discussing the biggest announcements, surprise reveals, trailers that caught our attention, and the games we're most excited to play in the months ahead. Then comes a moment that has been months in the making.A Pokémon box that has been sitting sealed since November finally gets opened. The anticipation, the nostalgia, the possibility of incredible pulls, and the excitement that keeps collectors coming back all come together in one of the most anticipated openings we've done on the show.We also spend a major portion of the episode diving back into the dungeon as we recap Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 3 through Chapter 25.Topics include:Memorable fights and encountersCharacter development and shifting alliancesHidden callbacks and Easter eggsThe humor, absurdity, and emotional moments that make the series specialTheories and reactions as the story continues escalatingThe moments that left us stunned and asking "what just happened?"As the celebration continues, familiar voices return.
Why are young Canadians leaving cities? Why are seniors staying in homes that are too big for them? And can Canada lower housing costs without cutting quality of life even further? In this listener Q&A episode of The Missing Middle, Sabrina Maddeaux and Cara Stern answer audience questions on housing affordability, immigration, downsizing, social isolation, wage stagnation, the Greenbelt, and why building more “missing middle” housing has become so difficult in Canada.Topics covered:Why seniors aren't downsizingThe shortage of family-sized homesHousing prices vs stagnant wagesSocial isolation and unaffordable citiesImmigration and housing demandThe Greenbelt debateWhat young Canadians can do politicallyIf you enjoy the episode, subscribe and leave a comment with your own question for a future mailbag episode.Eamon Seniors are lonely, rich, and live in houses that are too big, often in desirable neighbourhoods. Young people are desperate for housing, poor, and looking for roommates. Why not create a tax incentive for seniors to free up rooms in their houses for young people? I think a vacancy tax is punitive, but a tax incentive could unlock housing in a win-win (rather than zero sum) way for willing participants. Thoughts? KateIn your second-time homebuyer article you mention that various government initiatives could lower newly built housing costs by up to 15% which would free up more family sized homes "making it easier for seniors to downsize". How would lowering the cost of newly built homes by 15% make it easier for seniors to downsize? In my view, the more significant factor facing senior downsizers is not the cost of new housing but the scarcity of appealing post-move options for them. Mary (edited for length) I am a boomer with two millennial children who haven't yet reached middle-class milestones like stable employment or homeownership. I believe factors other than parental status are at play: 1) Are houses more expensive, or are incomes simply failing to keep up with declining purchasing power? 2) Given the rise in single-person households, why is there so much social isolation, and how does the difficulty of making connections in urban environments impact the ability for young people to save and enter the housing market?Chris Jeanneret and came from the comments section of our Greenbelt episode: Is the Greenbelt even practical for "affordable" housing, or does it only provide more land for luxury country estates? @canucklhead Isn't the obvious solution here to keep immigration low for the next few years to keep pressuring rents lower? Wouldn't this be the easiest solution to help affordability for everyone? Emily writes: I see what is happening to those under 25 and it is awful. How can I get involved? What steps can I take that will make the most difference? Do you know of a group in Edmonton organizing that is making a real difference especially in the "missing middle". What happens when a 17-year-old decides STEM should work for everyone—not just some students? In Episode 191, Dr. Diane talks with Amritha Praveen, founder of Amethyst Changemakers, about creating inclusive STEM kits using Universal Design for Learning, distributing over 250 kits to Title 1 schools, placing third at the International Science and Engineering Fair, and why resilience and empathy drive real change.Summary:In this inspiring conversation, Dr. Diane welcomes Amritha Praveen, a rising high school senior and founder of Amethyst Changemakers, an organization creating accessible STEM kits for learners of all abilities. Amritha explains how her volunteer work in special education revealed that many students interested in STEM couldn't fully participate because resources weren't designed for them. She shares how competition math in fifth grade sparked her STEM journey, leading to science fair projects on autism prediction, music therapy frameworks, and genetics research that earned her third place at ISEF and a scholarship to ASU. Amritha discusses the Universal Design for Learning framework that guides her STEM kits, embedding accessibility from the start rather than retrofitting later, and how her team of high school students, mentors, and volunteers has distributed over 250 kits to Chicago Public Schools and Peoria classrooms. She reflects on resilience as the foundation of good science, why STEM teaching needs more hands-on variety, and what brings her hope: watching young students discover their passion for STEM.Chapters & Timestamps:[00:00] Meet Teen Trailblazer Amritha Praveen – High school senior making STEM accessible for all[01:23] Amethyst Changemakers and Universal Design for Learning – STEM kits built with accessibility from the start[02:16] What's in the Kits? – Ice cream chemistry, catapults, magnets, math bingo, and more04:16] Why Inclusive STEM Matters – Seeing passionate students without equal access[05:29] Competition Math to Autism Research – Amritha's STEM journey from fifth grade to ISEF[06:38] Third Place at International Science Fair – Autism genetics, phenotypes, and an ASU scholarship[08:49] Building the Team – Student designers, mentors, and 30 volunteers assembling kits[11:46] Applied Math and Expanding the Mission – College plans and beyond[13:03] Advice for Young Scientists – Keep pushing through—resilience matters more than perfection[16:21] What Schools Get Wrong About STEM – Moving beyond lectures to differentiated, hands-on learning[17:22] What Brings You Hope? – Students discovering their passion for STEMLinks & Resources:Amethyst ChangemakersPIE (Peer Inclusion Empowerment) AppSociety for ScienceiBio ChampionIllinois Junior Academy of ScienceCall to Action:Inspired by Amritha's work? What if the reason you opened a business had nothing to do with profit? In this episode of The Localist, Carrie Rollwagen sits down with Cierra Lober, founder of Cha House, a community hub centered around a tea house in Avondale, Birmingham. Cierra did not set out to open a tea shop. She set out to build a community center, and she chose tea as the method — specifically the traditional Chinese practice of Gong Fu Cha, where small pots of loose-leaf tea are steeped again and again, slowing you down and making you present with the people around you. Cierra talks about why she started Cha House, how five years of pop-up events led her to a brick-and-mortar space next to Beloved Community Church in Avondale, what it felt like to have four strangers volunteer to work for free because they wanted the space to survive, how she manages a seven-day-a-week event calendar, what she has learned about training staff for a community-first business, and what it actually takes to build a real third place in Birmingham. Whether you are running a traditional business, a mission-driven business or just someone who wonders what it would look like to build something around community first, this episode is warm, honest and full of ideas.

My guest today is Laina Giselle Mason, who is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 16 years of mental health experience. She works from an intersectional feminist lens, pulling from modalities like IFS, Somatic and Polyvagal Theory, DBT, and Cognitive Processing Therapy; not because she likes acronyms, but because she's genuinely curious about finding what actually works for each person. She has a particular venn diagram of clients who identify as survivors of sexual trauma, LGBTQIA+ folks, and people navigating the wild ride of middle age. She currently serves as the Supervisor of Clinical Education and Development with the New York City Psychotherapy Collective. She's also a mom to two incredible boys, which she'll tell you is its own form of advanced training. Laina has been on the mats for over eight years, holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Evolution Grappling Academy under Mike Palladino, and coaches there too. She came to BJJ the way a lot of people come to therapy: looking for something else, and finding far more than she expected. When she's not in the gym or the virtual therapy room, she's outside somewhere, dancing or making art out of dead flowers and bones, which tells you pretty much everything you need to know about her. We discuss the role of jiu-jitsu as part of trauma treatment, red flags , and the overall benefits to practitioners. This is an episode you are going to want to share!! My appreciation for Laina's time and expertise. Thank you for listening, and as always, enjoy the show!
United's longest ever domestic away trip ended in a win - but it certainly wasn't a a classic as they beat Truro City 1-0 at the weekend and picked up three points that secure third place and a home-tie in the play-off semi-finals.Almost 900 Blues enjoyed the long trip south and a great weekend in the Cornish sunshine - maybe the less said about the actual football the better?!We look back on that win over the Tinners before previewing the end of regular season dead-rubber fixture against Brackley Town this weekend.Lots discussed in this episode, including:
"We are better together than we are apart." This conviction, rooted in the belief that human connection is the ultimate "turbocharger" for growth, serves as the foundation for navigating the complex world of global acquisitions. In an era where AI agents are rapidly automating the "logic" of business, the true differentiator remains the "unscalable" trust built over a shared meal and a glass of bourbon. In this episode of Gratitude Through Hard Times, Chris Schembra takes the show on the road to The Stand in Manhattan for the debut of the "Lunch & Dinner" series. He sits down with Adam Famularo, who returns to the show for a second time. A seasoned leader who recently navigated the high-stakes acquisition of WorkFusion by UiPath, Adam joins Chris to move beyond the boardroom and explore how deep-rooted relationships and emotional intelligence are the only ways to win $100-million deals. Adam returns to share a transparent look at the evolution of his career—from the intensity of "hypergrowth" to the strategic synergy of the "Better Together" philosophy. Together, Chris and Adam discuss why technology should never lead to isolation, arguing instead that the most successful "AI-forward" futures are those that prioritize the "Third Place" and the sacred, messy friction of in-person connection. 10 Memorable Quotes: "We are better together than we are apart." "The power of the hydra is much greater than the individual heads." "You don't sell a hundred-million-dollar deal on logic. You sell it on emotion." "The goal is to keep building, keep growing, and keep helping." "If you can connect those dots, the world becomes a better place." "You have to have a network of people who believe in you." "Tomorrow can be better than yesterday." "Step out of the rat race and into this new way of living." "This gives people permission to just be more human." "Success, fulfillment, and purpose—that is the playbook." 10 Key Takeaways: The Power of the Hydra: How the acquisition of WorkFusion by UiPath creates a "turbocharged" entity that is stronger than the sum of its parts. The "Lunch & Dinner" Philosophy: Why taking the podcast "on the road" to a comedy club and restaurant reflects the "Never Eat Alone" strategy for building deep trust. Emotional vs. Logical Selling: Understanding that while AI handles the data, major enterprise decisions are won through human networks and belief. The 90-Minute Reflection: The value of a 20-year relationship with an executive coach and the discipline of monthly reflection sessions. Verticalized AI Agents: A deep dive into how specialized technology is being used to fight financial crimes and global "bad actors." The "Better Together" Mindset: Shifting from a "me vs. you" competitive stance to a collaborative ecosystem that benefits the entire industry. The "Third Place": Celebrating environments like The Stand that offer a "home away from home" for connection without the barriers of membership fees. Permission to be Human: Why even the most successful tech founders must prioritize family, wellness, and vulnerability to avoid burnout. The ROI of Legacy: Reflecting on past successes not as endpoints, but as the "connective tissue" that fuels future partnerships. Anti-Isolation: Why we must resist the "frictionless" trend of remote work in favor of the meaningful, face-to-face interactions that drive innovation. About our Guest: Adam Famularo is a visionary leader and multi-time founder recognized for his expertise in "hypergrowth" and scaling global technology companies. Appearing on the podcast for the second time, Adam is currently a key leader within the UiPath ecosystem following the acquisition of WorkFusion. He remains a steadfast advocate for "human-forward" leadership in the age of AI, proving that true success is a result of being "Better Together."

A pair of entertaining draws against Gateshead and Morecambe over Easter could have put a huge dent in United's hopes to finish in third place and go straight into the play-off semi-finals, but two contrasting results for Boreham Wood mean the gap only shortened by one point, and with three games left to go, that five-point gap means United remain in the best position to gain home advantage in early May.The first of those three games comes this weekend against Sutton United - a side United still haven't beaten, can they end the hoodoo against the Londoners this weekend? We look back on the games against the Heed and Shrimps, before previewing the visit of the U's to Brunton Park.Lots discussed in this episode, including:⚫ Gateshead draw review
Meet the wonderful Bev Fox! Bev has run Boho Arts' School of Improv in Newcastle-upon-Tyne UK since 2003, serving a vibrant creative community of people from all walks of life. Bev's improv journey began in 1988 on a rainy night in London when, as aspiring actors, she and her young sweetheart - now long-term partner - Ian McLaughlin ventured out through the storm to an improv class. That “sliding doors” moment changed their lives. Over nearly four decades, Bev has performed, taught and developed improvisation across stage, film, TV and radio. She is also a co-founding member of The Suggestibles, Newcastle's professional improv ensemble. Bev and Ian's teaching, grounded in training with Keith Johnstone and other pioneers of the form, continues to evolve. They love to invent, explore and inspire. You can see Bev's interviews with Keith Johnstone that have become valuable teaching resources for improvisers worldwide on YouTube. Bev established Boho Arts as a charity in 2021 during the pandemic, inspired by the global improv community they reached and how improv connected people from around the world to their local Newcastle groups. The experience proved especially meaningful, highlighting the positive impact of laughter, human connection and cultural diversity on both their own and their students' wellbeing, while sparking fresh ideas for improv on camera and for when the world would open up again. In 2026, they will open a new community arts hub in Newcastle, a "Third Place" dedicated to improv, creativity and wellbeing. As we've said many times this season, it wasn't a game for the purists at the weekend but most importantly, it was back to winning ways for United as they had a relatively comfortable afternoon on the south coast, with a 2-1 victory at Eastleigh.Up next is United's last game this season against a side in the (current) top 7, as Southend make the long journey north for what is promising to be a bumper crowd for the evening kick-off. Can United complete another double and really cement third place in the table?Lots discussed in this episode, including:
Dan makes his first appearance on the pod of 2026 and what at time to do it - an excellent week for United as they pick up two wins, complete two doubles, six points added and six goals scored! (let's ignore the three conceded for now!). The win over FGR puts United firmly in pole position to secure that vital third place in the league... but could they go one or two better?!We look back on the 3-1 win over Robbie Savage's Vegans before looking ahead to this weekend's fixture against struggling Yeovil Town at Brunton Park. Can the Blues make it three wins in a row?Lots discussed in this episode, including:
Why is it so hard to make friends once you leave school? In this episode of The Missing Middle, Cara Stern and Mike Moffatt dive into the "Loneliness Epidemic" and the disappearing concept of the Third Place – those vital social hubs that aren't home (the first place) or work (the second place). From the 1980s mall culture and bowling alleys to the modern era of "convenience-first" coffee shops and endless doomscrolling, we explore why 60% of Canadians feel disconnected from their communities. We also break down the surprising 2025 StatCan data showing that young people (15–24) are significantly lonelier than seniors. In this episode, we discuss:The Zoning Crisis: Why it's literally illegal to build a walkable pub or café in most North American suburbs. The Death of the Comfy Chair: How rising land costs forced businesses to prioritize drive-thrus over community "hangouts."Weak Social Ties: Why interacting with people outside your "bubble" is essential for democracy, your mental health, and your career.Practical Advice: Cara shares her (slightly terrifying) tips for meeting neighbours, and Mike discusses how rec sports saved his social life. Society is collapsing all around us and 4 out of 5 dentists say it's because people don't have "Third Places" anymore. Everyone has home, the "First Place." Everyone has work, the "Second Place." But so few of us have the mythic "Third Place" that allows us to hang out, unwind and exist without spending an exorbitant amount of energy. Well, in hopes of saving society, we're turning to video games to find our next leisure space. Andrew has biplanes. Matt has buckets. Todd has battle games. Episode 277Love is in the air… and so is pure 90s nostalgia. On this Valentine's Day episode of My Third Place Podcast, Gregg and I mix romance, retro rewinds, and music memories into one heartfelt pop culture conversation that moves from arcade fights to coming-of-age feelings. We open with reactions to past and present Super Bowl halftime shows, unpacking how performance eras shape our emotions and why certain songs instantly transport us back to a specific moment in life. Music isn't just background noise — it's memory, identity, and time travel all at once.We also shout out Shawn Stockman's new podcast and reflect on the legacy of Boyz II Men, exploring how love songs from the 90s still define what romance sounds like for an entire generation. Then we lean fully into Valentine's Day energy:
After the cautious approach at Rochdale at the weekend, it was a bit more front-foot for United in midweek and it paid dividends as they ran out 3-2 winners over Scunthorpe, three points that could be vital in the battle for third place come the end of the season. With that game out of the way, all focus now is on the trip south to face Forest Green Rovers - another fixture that could be pivotal in the attempts to avoid an extra game in the play-offs could the end of the campaign.Lots discussed in this episode, including:
This week on Behind The Stays, Zach shares a more personal story—and then connects it to three major shifts reshaping hospitality. After uncovering the story of his grandfather, an early travel entrepreneur who helped open tourism from North America to Tahiti, Zach reflects on why meaningful travel experiences matter more than ever—and what that legacy means for the future of stays. From there, he breaks down three trends every hospitality leader should be thinking about: Why hotels may be becoming the new “third place” in a hybrid-work world How AI is transforming hotel discovery—and why independent brands have a real opportunity right now The overlooked data advantage hotels have (and how it could shape the next era of personalization) If you're building, investing in, or operating unique stays, this episode is a call to think more intentionally about the spaces you create—and the signals you're sending. Because in an increasingly automated world, thoughtfully designed places may matter more than ever. Behind the Stays is brought to you by Journey — a first-of-its-kind loyalty program that brings together an alliance of the world's top independently owned and operated stays and allows travelers to earn points and perks on boutique hotels, vacation rentals, treehouses, ski chalets, glamping experiences and so much more. Your host is Zach Busekrus, Head of the Journey Alliance. If you are a hospitality entrepreneur who has a stay, or a collection of stays with soul, we'd love for you to apply to join our Alliance at journey.com/alliance.

Regular listeners of this series will know that there is a certain festival that is near and dear to my heart, the Albino Skunk Music Festival. It is an event that insiders love passionately, and outsiders often puzzle over. What an unusual name! What an unlikely and often under-the-radar roster of artists! As I have said many times before in introducing the festival to a newcomer, I had long been a skeptic before setting foot on the property, at which point it took only minutes to realize that not only would I return to that festival; I would always return to it. As we enter the winter season, we are about as far away from festival season as one can get. But festivals are a year round endeavor -- practically all the spring and early summer festivals next year are already booked, and are rolling out their artist lineups in stages as they promote their events. Usually that means a headliner or a first volley of artists and bands announced in fall and winter, followed by one or two more updates which fill in the rest of the blanks. There is a ton of work going on right now for festivals happening next fall, and onwards to the following year. The teams that plan and staff these events never really have down periods. Even immediately after a festival ends, they go over what went right, what went wrong, what could be improved for next time, and then fill their calendar with meeting dates, dates when ticket prices go from early bird to full price, dates when they make marketing pushes, dates when they have to have new logos and merchandise, you name it. We will focus a lot on festivals here on Southern Songs and Stories over the coming months, beginning with this episode on the California band Wolf Jett. Soon, we will bring you a conversation from Time Sawyer front man and Milltown Get Down festival's Sam Tayloe. Also in our cue is a band that I got to sit with at Milltown Get Down in Elkin, NC, which was one that I got to enjoy at both Albino Skunk Music Festival and the Earl Scruggs Music Festival beforehand -- western NC's Holler Choir. Chris Forsberg and Tom Giles react to the Celtics' 121-113 win over the Toronto Raptors to win their fifth straight game and improve to 15-9 on the season. Boston led by as many as 23 before allowing Toronto to come all the way back in the second half, but clutch shots and defense were enough to get them over the finish line. 1:10- Giles' Headline: “You want clutch?!
