"How do you develop a bank of confidence for the future without comparing to past achievements?" In this Q&A episode of The Injured Athletes Club podcast, mental skills coach Carrie Jackson tackles a crucial question from listener Jessica about confidence. In her response, Coach Carrie emphasizes the importance of redefining goals, focusing on the present moment, and celebrating small victories. She explains how deliberately setting rehabilitation targets can help injured athletes shift their focus to what's within their control and redefine success. By letting go of past achievements and concentrating on future ones, athletes can start building confidence based on their current progress. Coach Carrie also shares valuable insights on leveraging past performance accomplishments as a source of strength and the power of affirmations in combating the brain's negativity bias. On this edition of Parallax Views, Israel has commenced its operation in Rafah. As this was happening I was interviewing Khalil Sayegh, a D.C.-based Palestinian Christian who was born and raised in the Gaza Strip. Khalil is also the co-founder and President of the Agora Initiative, a non-profit that works to promote democracy in the Middle East. Khalil gives a crash course in the Palestinian perspective on Israle/Palestine in the course of our conversation starting with a discussion of his own background and experiences as a Palestinian who grew up in Gaza. We also end up discussing issues related to how the Palestinian cause, the quest for Palestinian self-determination, can advance forward in these turbulent, uncertain, and grim time of war and bombardment. Among the topics covered are: the need for external pressure to be put on Israel, Israeli obstinance on a two-state solution, Hamas, the Palestinian Authority, Marwan Barghouti, Zionism and anti-Zionism, diplomacy, the Occupation, the West Bank, the shrinking Israeli left, Benjamin Netanyahu, the problem with thinking that a figure succeeding Netanyahu such as Yair Lapid or Benny Gantz will immediately lead to optimal outcomes, the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement, the Nakba and Palestinian displacement, Israeli maximalism, and much, much more!

The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the first basketball-only podcast to be a part of the Peristyle Podcast family of shows -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the the last couple of weeks action from the USC men's and women's basketball teams. The Women of Troy are ranked No. 9 after suffering their first loss of the season, having too many cold stretches against No. 2 UCLA in the first iteration of the Crosstown Showdown this season. The Trojans entered the game undefeated despite missing multiple key players each of the previous couple of games. The men's team has finally got to full strength with the addition of Bronny James back to the mix after he missed the team's first eight games as he continued to recover and rehab following a cardiac arrest this summer. However, the addition of James hasn't been an automatic fix for the ills of the 7-7 Trojans. Shotgun and Connor break down all the latest action for both teams, including the impact James has made as he shakes off the rust, before looking at where the Trojan squads stand both record and stat wise through the first two months of the season. The podcasting duo also look at the positives and negatives of the recent USC basketball action from both squads and look forward to the next week to preview what lies ahead. For the men, they continue a critical three-game home swing while the Women of Troy take on another undefeated team Friday evening. Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! Make sure you check out USCFootball.com for complete coverage of this USC Trojans basketball and football teams. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for October 9, 2023 is: juncture JUNK-cher noun Juncture refers to an important point in a process or activity, or to a junction, that is, a place where things join. // "At this juncture in the editing process," said Philip, "it is important that all facts have been double-checked and sources verified." // At the juncture of the two rivers sits a large beaver's dam. See the entry > Examples: "At a key juncture in the play, the visual environment is transformed into rippling waves of energy that creates a dreamlike effect." — Don Aucoin, The Boston Globe, 21 July 2023 Did you know? Join us as we journey into the history of juncture, a word that's neither junky nor janky, but just dandy. Juncture comes from the Latin verb jungere ("to join") and has many English relatives including not only join and junction but also conjugal ("relating to marriage") and junta ("a group of persons controlling a government"). The use of juncture in English dates back to the 14th century, when it meant "a place where two or more things are joined." By the 17th century it could also refer to an important point in a process or activity.

Santa Rosa Pizzeria menu. The co-owners of Santa Rosa Pizzeria, Peter Lopez and Ignacio Ruiz, join Steve Jaxon and Herlinda Heras on Brew Ha Ha today. Peter is a frequent guest and occasional co-host on Brew Ha Ha, here is Peter's most recent BHH episode, from March of this year. Peter Lopez is back with Ignacio Ruiz, aka Nacho, as co-owners of the new Santa Rosa Pizzeria. They have been open for about a month. They are active on Facebook, at this link. Nacho tells the story of how he and Peter worked together in another restaurant, then they reconnected. Peter found a location that used to be under another name. Also, Barolo's Pizza was there for about 15 years. So the place has a pizza pedigree. In less than a month they started! The Art of Pizza Peter also runs Juncture Taproom and Ignacio is also the controlling partner of Art's Place, so he is also an ideal partner for Peter. Ignacio learned pizza while working in an Italian restaurant, and he also makes pizza at Art's Place. Art was a master and taught the art to Ignacio. Art Ibleto's kids still control the Pasta King name, so he steers clear of things like their famous ravioli. They do have an extensive wine and beer menu. They named all the pizzas after Santa Rosa icons, including Jerry Robinson, former Raider and All-American UCLA Bruin linebacker of yesteryear. Jerry Robinson (84) UCLA, 1978 Peter considers his place to be a family friendly taproom, with something for everyone of all ages. He wants people to feel comfortable and safe. They even have their own Charlie Brown statue. He originally named Juncture Taproom “Confluence.” Juncture is at the corner of Mission and Montgomery, close to Howard Park and Spring Lake, where Rincon Valley and Bennett Valley come together. There is a band called Igor and the Red Elvises that plays there. They are a great band, a lot of fun. They won Star Search with Ed McMahon on TV long before American Idol and The Voice. They took the money, bought a van an went on tour. They have a cult following. Santa Rosa Pizzeria is open noon to 8 pm, and they do deliveries from 11:30 to 8:30. Russian River Brewing Co. is open in Santa Rosa on 4th St. and at their big Windsor location. Visit their website for up-to-date hours, menus, beers and more. Herlinda brought a guitar pick from the Beatles museum in Liverpool and she has lots more stories from Liverpool in the later part of the show. See our sponsor Victory House at Poppy Bank Epicenter online, for their latest viewing and menu options.

Relations between the United States and China have slid to their lowest point since the 1970s. After President Biden and Xi Jinping met in November 2022, they instructed their senior officials to initiate a process to stabilize the relationship. Before much headway could be made, however, China sent a surveillance balloon to the west coast of the United States that ended up loitering over sensitive military sites and then flew across the entire country before being shot down by the US. Secretary of State Blinken postponed his planned visit to China. Acrimony and distrust spiked. Several months later, the US and China decided to try again. Blinken visited Beijing from June 18-19, and had meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, CCP Central Foreign Affairs Office Director Wang Yi, and State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang. What is the trajectory of the bilateral relationship after the visit? Is it possible to stabilize ties and resume dialogue mechanisms and some forms of cooperation, or is further deterioration of relations more likely? To discuss these issues, host Bonnie Glaser is joined by Dr. Evan Medeiros, the Penner Family Chair in Asia Studies in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and the Cling Family Distinguished Fellow in U.S.-China Studies. During the Obama administration, Evan served for six years on the National Security Council as Director for China, Taiwan, and Mongolia. The stock market is one of the greatest mysteries and has been studied by millions and mastered by very few. I'm not suggesting that I am one of those masters but have learned a couple of things over the years, and I am seeing a critical juncture where the market will be making a decision. In fact, a great trader and teacher of trading from the U.K., Steve Griffiths, calls these important junctures "Decision Points". The S&P 500 is at one of these "Decision Points" at this very moment! What happens next will be very important but the ingredients are present for a swift and violent decline in stock prices. Liquidity has been coming out of the market for many months, the yield curve inverted and stayed inverted, and now stock prices are at a decision point. It's under this backdrop that we listen to an important warning from Robert Kiyosaki, famed author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Join me today as we listen to Mr.Kiyosaki's critique of the U.S. economy, government, and fiat money system, or what he calls FAKE Money System. Robert Kiyosaki issues a dire warning and says that we're going through very spooky times. He explains how this economic downturn is likely to play out with best & worst case scenarios (including starvation!), and shares his thoughts on the best ways to protect yourself. Robert T. Kiyosaki is an American businessman, investor, and best-selling author. One of his most popular books is “Rich Dad Poor Dad” and it's a great educational tool on the way to financial freedom. Kiyosaki is well known for revealing the truth about money and finances that they don't teach in any school. Share this video with a friend if you find it useful! Introduction: Host Michael Rand can't help but wonder what in the world is going on with Carlos Correa. It was mid-December, almost two weeks before Christmas, when it was initially reported that he was signing a 13-year, $350 million deal with the Giants. A week later that deal fell apart, but now it's been two weeks and he still hasn't signed with the Mets. 5:00: The Gophers men's basketball team fought hard but lost 63-60 to the Badgers in Wisconsin on Tuesday. Perhaps the bigger takeaway is just how far this team is off the sports radar. 8:00: Timberwolves writer Chris Hine joins Rand for a look at that team. A spirited effort in a win over Denver was preceded by a six-game losing streak. Which Wolves team will show up Wednesday against Portland during Pride Night at Target Center? 29:00: Brian O'Neill to injured reserve, and a defining quote about Damar Hamlin.
In our age of biomedicine, society often treats sickness and disability as problems in need of solution. Phenomena of embodied difference, however, have not always been seen in terms of lack and loss. Where Paralytics Walk and the Blind See: Stories of Sickness and Disability at the Juncture of Worlds (Princeton UP, 2022) explores the case of early modern Catholic Canada under French rule and shows it to be a period rich with alternative understandings of infirmity, disease, and death. Counternarratives to our contemporary assumptions, these early modern stories invite us to creatively imagine ways of living meaningfully with embodied difference today. At the heart of Dunn's account are a range of historical sources: Jesuit stories of illness in New France, an account of Canada's first hospital, the hagiographic vita of Catherine de Saint-Augustin, and tales of miraculous healings wrought by a dead Franciscan friar. In an early modern world that subscribed to a Christian view of salvation, both sickness and disability held significance for more than the body, opening opportunities for virtue, charity, and even redemption. Dunn demonstrates that when these reflections collide with modern thinking, the effect is a certain kind of freedom to reimagine what sickness and disability might mean to us. Reminding us that the meanings we make of embodied difference are historically conditioned, Where Paralytics Walk and the Blind See makes a forceful case for the role of history in broadening our imagination. Brenna Moore teaches in the Department of Theology at Fordham University and works in the areas of Catholic Intellectual History, particularly in modern Europe. Learn more about your ad choices. Peter Lopez and Adam Bosch Juncture Taproom owner Peter Lopez and Adam Bosch of Parliament Brewing in Rhonert Park join Harry Duke in studio on Brew Ha Ha today. Peter Lopez reports that they are still alive! His gratitude goes to the neighborhood regulars and his staff. Half of his original staff is still with him. Junture Taproom and Lounge is located at the corner of Mission and Montgomery in Santa Rosa. They have 3500 square feet inside and a huge patio that overlooks Santa Rosa Creek. They have a large projection screen with surround sound. It's a great place to watch a game. The menu is simple but tasty. They have 20 beers in rotation on tap, including several popular ones from Parliament Brewing. Parliament Brewing in Rhonert Park is a family operation. Adam Bosch runs the tasting room and does sales and distribution, his father Alan mainly does the books and his brother Justin brews the beer. There are always new projects with a new business. He found that they had to start distributing beer in cans, which is growing. They also provide more beers in kegs for bars and restaurants. Their tasting room in Rhonert Park is located just south of the Costco. They have outdoor seating and plans to build more, to be able to hold up to 200 people. They have food trucks, including Tacos San Juan, Buns Only, Camacho, War Pigs, Lila's Streetside Eats. Tuesdays is Trivia Night with Tacos San Juan and the other food trucks are in rotation, so not on the same day of the week. Juncture Taproom's rotation usually has 2 taps each for cider, sours, barrel aged beers, old-world pilsners and lagers, and seasonals. In the winter they may have more Stouts and Porters and in the summer time, more Hefeweizens and Pilsners or Lagers. Kaleidoscope They taste Kaleidoscope, a hazy IPA that is Parliament Brewing's flagship brew. Peter says it's so good that they keep it on tap at Juncture Taproom Adam's brother Justin discovered brewing science in college and invited him to to California to work with him. He is happy with the career choice. Kaleidoscope, at 6.9% AVB, it will not overwhelm you to have more than one. They made the recipe together, Adam chose the ingredients and Justin is in charge of the process. The name Parliament refers to a group noun sometimes used for owls and also for a community of people who collaborate. Kaleidoscope is considered to refer to butterflies (see the can art). More Parliament Brewing Tastings The second beer is a west coast IPA called Smosaic, which is a portmanteau of the names of the two kinds of hops used to make it, which are Simcoe and Mosaic. The AVB is 7.2%, it is more clean, piney, citrusy, the standard west coast IPA. It is balanced and the bitterness is not too strong. The third beer is called “Seven and Citra” made with Idaho 7 hops and Citra hops. It is more bitter, well-hopped, and at 7.8% Adam calls it the bigger brother of Kaleidescope. There are a lot of local stores in Sonoma County where they are available in cans and on draft in some. They also make a smoothie style kettle sour, with fruit added, they have Pilsners, as well as Stouts and others.

The market is at a key juncture. So far, the major indices have put in a higher bottom and have been slowly coiling despite bad news and downgraded forecasts. That suggests the conditions for a continued rally are firming up. Yet financial advisor Lance Roberts thinks that, fundamentally, it doesn't seem likely that current stock prices have yet fully priced in the impacts of the serious recession it appears we are heading into. Markets will soon have to pick a direction Which way are they likely to break? And what factors should we be watching most closely? https://youtu.be/B_yzB-QHMWo
