The Los Angeles Angels and Oakland A's gave Kurt Suzuki a proper sendoff on Tuesday night in a special and emotional 1st inning. With this game, the longtime catcher began and ended his playing days in Oakland, and each team gave him the recognition he deserved along with a standing ovation from the fans in attendance. The Halos ended up losing this game in extras once again with a Ryan Tepera bases-loaded walk, but we did see some excellent performances from the likes of Michael Lorenzen on the mound. We'll cover last night's game in segment 1!Then, the New York Mets recently called up the number-one prospect in all of baseball, Francisco Alvarez, who also happens to be a catcher like the Angels' Logan O'Hoppe. How do their stats compare? The answer may surprise and delight you!Plus, the Angels will likely have $100 million to spend in the offseason if the luxury tax is the threshold for their budget, and Mike and Jon speculate whether or not they will spend or run it back with the young players on the team. Kurt has been a consistent player for 15+ years in the MLB, though he received the widest attention for his choices following the Nationals' 2019 World Series win. The Los Angeles Angels saw strong pitching from the likes of Patrick Sandoval, Oliver Ortega, and Austin Warren, and the offense came to life, with contributions from Brandon Marsh, Jo Adell, Matt Duffy, Jack Mayfield, and... Kurt Suzuki?! It's true. It's dang true. With the news that former Angels' Number-One pick Sean Newcomb was DFA'd by the Atlanta Braves, is there a case for bringing him back? Plus, what is it about this year's starting rotation that makes them better than last year?Give us a follow @LockedOnAngels on Twitter and for the best Angels memes around, connect with us on Instagram and Twitter @SuperHaloBros!Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. The Lockout is over, and it's time to celebrate with some actual Los Angeles Angels news for the first time in months! All is right in the world of baseball, and with Spring Training beginning this week, Mike and Jon talk Mike Trout's position in the field. The plan is to keep him in Center Field, but would he benefit from a move to a corner outfield spot, and what would the rest of the outfield look like? (3:35) Speaking of the outfield, would signing Seiya Suzuki from Japan open the door for a trade involving Brandon Marsh or Jo Adell, and could that be the key to bringing Luis Castillo to Anaheim? Mike and Jon discuss who they would move if the Angels make this trade. (15:49) Mike DiGiovanna from the LA Times noted that free-agent starting pitcher Tyler Anderson is still available, and The Halo Bros. discuss if he would be a good fit for the rotation. (25:44) You can't talk Angels without discussing pitching, and Mike and Jon look at the return of Ty Buttrey and how he'll factor into the bullpen, and they talk Reid Detmers and if he'll start in the Majors or Minors this season. (34:34) Our worse fear has come true; Kurt Suzuki has returned to the Angels, but is this move as bad as it seems on the surface? The Bros. look at the stats and compare his starts against Max Stassi's and how that influenced the rotation in 2021. (42:32) Finally, Angels' 2nd baseman David Fletcher was SNUBBED! Why does the league hate our team so much? Felipe and Sean are back to discuss the most recent acquisitions in Major League Baseball for the week of January 11, 2021. The show starts out with a bang as they discuss the Chicago White Sox signing relief pitcher Liam Hendriks to help solidify their bullpen. Talks then transition to what else the White Sox need to do to bolster their roster to maximize their World Series potential. For the sake of comparison, the show then takes a look at the other American League teams and attempt to gauge their World Series aspirations for the 2021 season. The guys then predict who their "way-too-early" World Series matchup will be with a month to go before pitchers and catchers report next month. Other topics of discussion: --The intriguing San Francisco Giants starting rotation --Can Christian Yelich and the Milwaukee Brewers offense turn things around to keep up with their stellar pitching? --Despite the big-name acquisitions in the last couple of years, the Philadelphia Phillies are in complete shambles --The New York Mets get their right-handed power batter --Meanwhile, in the Bronx, the New York Yankees acquire two players, but will it be enough to compete for a World Series? --Kurt Suzuki is still in the league! In 2010, Matt Hannaford left the legendary Beverly Hills Sports Council and joined Dan Lozano to form MVP Sports Group. Together they've represented some of the biggest names in baseball, including Albert Puljos, Manny Machado, Joey Votto, Josh Donaldson, Kurt Suzuki, Alex Rodriguez, Jimmy Rollins, Carlos Beltran, Mike Piazza, Nick Swisher, Brian Wilson and several other up and coming major league super stars. Earlier this year, Matt negotiated the largest free agent contract in American sports history for Manny Machado ($300 million over 10 years). Matt and I dive deep into the life and obstacles of a professional baseball player, the mindset of a young prospect, deciding on going to play in college or signing a pro contract out of high school and surviving the minor league grind, which is a nightmare. He also touches on the misinformation being fed to parents in youth baseball around the country and why year round travel ball/club teams are usually detrimental to your children. If you're a baseball fan, you don't want to miss this!
Ringer staff writer Michael Baumann is joined by Zach Kram to discuss the upside-down NL East (01:15) and NL Central races (10:00) then marvels at the Angels' hot start with Ben Lindbergh (21:15). Finally Ringer senior editor and staff contrarian Ryan "O'Headline" O'Hanlon joins the pod to talk about whether pitch framing is dishonorable (37:30) and whether Aaron Judge is still the worst player in baseball (46:15).
