In this episode, Lauren sits down with three time Olympian Moritz Fürste to talk about his functional fitness venture that should be launching in the UK later this year. HYROX is a one-day fitness competition event that takes place in large arenas around the world. It is a combination of 8 x 1k runs and 8 functional fitness exercises. Each competitor or 2-person team has his/her personal completion time, of an average 90 minutes, to compare to everyone else around the world and improve upon in subsequent events similar to a runner in a marathon. Prior to the Covid-19 lockdown in the UK, Lauren sat down with the National Champion of Ireland PD Savage to talk about his journey to qualifying for the CrossFit Games.Already a seasoned Regionals athlete, PD came back from an injury during the 2019/20 season to take the top spot on the Irish leaderboard but that didn't come without a fight. The mental stress of qualifying for the pinnacle of the sport doesn't go unnoticed by the 30 year old, as he speaks about his social media black out during the Open and the pressure he put himself under to realise his goals. His family play an important part in his journey, as does his coach Neil Laverty of SYSTM training, all of whom contributed to his success. After being crowned 11th in the European Central Open, you'd be forgiven for thinking it all comes easily for Crossfit athlete Emelye Dwyer. What you might not know are the hurdles she has over come to make it to where she is today. We talk about Emelye’s not so simple journey, the pressure (& fun) of regionals, her recent diagnosis of autism, how she wants to use her experiences of body image & mental health to help others and finally how CrossFit has given her a whole new set of goals to chase. She’s basically Wonder Woman! Having grown up in a dancer's world Emelye found herself fighting with an eating disorder that left her hospitalised. Her determination not to "let that be her excuse" has lead her to a life, in her own words, she wouldn't have then dreamed of, competing in Crossfit amongst Britain's elite. This is one seriously inspirational lady.
