Cougar Piss is as bold as its name.
In this episode of The Cannabis Business Coach Podcast, host Michael Zaytsev (Professor Z) talks with Ian Dominguez, Founder and CIO of Delta Emerald Ventures, about how data, policy, and consumer behavior are shaping the cannabis industry—especially the booming market for THC beverages. Ian shares insights from Delta Emerald's proprietary research, including the striking fact that daily cannabis consumers have recently outnumbered daily alcohol consumers in America for the first time. He explains why cannabinoids are already mainstream, how hemp-derived beverages may represent the regulatory “path of least resistance,” and why long-term value will accrue closer to the consumer rather than at the cultivation level. The conversation also explores how becoming a new father has shaped Ian's perspective on purpose and impact, and why technology and behavioral data will define the next era of cannabis investing. In this eye-opening episode of the Kaya Cast Podcast, host Tommy Truong sits down with Josh Swider, co-founder and CEO of Infinite Chemical Analysis Labs, to uncover the complex and often misunderstood world of synthetic cannabinoids in the cannabis and hemp industries. Josh draws on over a decade of experience as an analytical chemist to explain how synthetic cannabinoids like Delta-8, Delta-9, THCP, and others are created, the safety risks posed by unknown byproducts, and why many products on the market today may not be derived from actual plants. They discuss the challenges facing regulators, how consumers can distinguish synthetic versus natural cannabinoids, and the alarming lack of enforcement and safety standards—especially in states without legalized cannabis. Josh also shares practical advice for extraction businesses on improving yields and maintaining quality through rigorous testing and process control. This episode is a must-listen for dispensary owners, manufacturers, and cannabis professionals committed to product safety, consumer education, and the future of a responsible cannabis industry. This week on the Lancaster Farming Industrial Hemp Podcast we're looking at hemp's environmental promise. We've all heard the claim the hemp can save the planet—but what does the science really say? I talk with environmental scientist Lorelei Alvarez and strategist Joseph Carringer, co-authors of the brand-new Hemp and Sustainability Report, published by HempToday and CannaMarkets Group. Together, we dig into the evidence, the hype, and the responsibility that comes with hemp's potential. The report breaks down hemp's impact on carbon, soil, water, and lifecycle assessments, pulling from peer-reviewed research to separate fact from fantasy. Lorelei and Joseph challenge legacy claims like “one acre of hemp equals four acres of trees,” while also highlighting real opportunities where hemp can reduce emissions, improve soil health, and support sustainable supply chains. The message is clear: hemp won't single-handedly solve our environmental problems, but when grown and processed responsibly, it can be part of the solution. One of the things I like about this report is that it raises the standard for how we talk about hemp. It asks us to back up our stories with evidence, to tell the accurate version of hemp's potential rather than the inflated one. That honesty gives the industry a stronger foundation to grow from, and it gives farmers, processors, and entrepreneurs the tools to make smarter choices. Check out the Hemp and Sustainability Report for yourself, and see what the data has to say. Hemp's future is still being written—and we all have a role to play in shaping it. Send us a textWhat is the core evolved function of the endocannabinoid system?Episode Summary: Dr. Giovanni Marsicano is a neuroscientist based in Bordeaux, France, where he leads a research group at INSERM focusing on the endocannabinoid system.About the guest: Giovanni Marsicano, PhD discusses the endocannabinoid system, starting with its core components like CB1 receptors and lipid-based molecules derived from omega-6 fatty acids; its cellular signaling, evolutionary role in energy storage for uncertain futures (exostasis vs. homeostasis); effects across tissues; motivation, appetite, pain relief, and anxiety regulation; biphasic effects of cannabinoids.Discussion Points:The endocannabinoid system acts as an "exostatic" regulator, promoting energy accumulation for future needs by enhancing food palatability, nutrient absorption, and fat storage, unlike "endostatic" systems that address immediate hunger.CB1 receptors appear in vertebrates with adipose tissue, suggesting an evolutionary link to storing fat for survival in unstable environments.Endocannabinoids are lipids from omega-6 fats; high intake boosts their levels, potentially fueling obesity by creating a self-perpetuating cycle of overeating.Activation of CB1 can have biphasic effects due to receptors on different cell types like excitatory vs. inhibitory neurons.Pregnenolone, a steroid precursor, acts as a natural CB1 inhibitor to prevent excessive activation, blocking harmful effects like psychosis from high THC doses. The system influences motivation beyond food, including sex and even human activities like sports or storytelling, by rewarding actions for potential future benefits. In the brain, CB1 on mitochondria and astrocytes modulates energy use, olfaction, and social stress transmission, with implications for disorders like Alzheimer's.Reference Paper:CB1 Receptor as the Cornerstone of ExostasisRelated episode:M&M 123: EndocanSupport the showAffiliates: Seed Oil Scout: Find restaurants with seed oil-free options, scan food products to see what they're hiding, with this easy-to-use mobile app. AquaTru: Reverse osmosis water filters. Social Yet Distanced: A View with an Emotionalorphan and Friends
“Unlock the Power of Cannabinoids” Hi, Jack Varnell from the Social Yet Distanced Podcast... You may remember this from past episodes, but did you know your body has an entire system designed just to interact with cannabis? It's called the Endocannabinoid System—and it helps regulate everything from stress and sleep to pain, mood, and inflammation. We have mentioned it previously, as the keys and locks and traffic cop for balance and healing. When it's out of balance? You feel it. Fatigue, anxiety, chronic pain—it all gets worse. But here's the good news: The separate components of the cannabis provide necessary balance building by using Phytocannabinoids from hemp and cannabis—components like CBD, CBG, CBN, and CBC—can help restore that balance. They mimic your body's own cannabinoids and get your system back on track.Remember, not all CBD is the same.

Send us a textHow dietary fats and cannabinoids shape brain function and mental well-being.Episode Summary: Dr. Steven Laviolette discusses the role of lipids, particularly endocannabinoids and fatty acids, in brain signaling and mental health, discussing how dietary omega-3 and omega-6 imbalances, prenatal THC exposure, and fatty acid binding proteins (FABPs) impact mood, anxiety, and neuroinflammation, while highlighting potential dietary interventions to mitigate these effects.About the guest: Steven Laviolette, PhD is a professor at the University of Western Ontario, holding a PhD, and his lab focuses on the brain's cannabinoid system and its role in mental health. He investigates how cannabinoids and fatty acids influence brain development and disorders like anxiety and schizophrenia.Discussion Points:The brain uses fats like endocannabinoids (e.g., anandamide, 2-AG) not just for structure but as signaling molecules to regulate emotional and cognitive processing.Prenatal THC exposure in rodents skews the omega-3/omega-6 balance toward pro-inflammatory omega-6, leading to cognitive and mood issues in offspring, but omega-3 supplementation can mitigate these effects.Fatty acid binding proteins (FABPs), especially FABP5, shuttle endocannabinoids like anandamide to degradation sites, and inhibiting FABP5 increases anandamide levels, reducing anxiety and depression without addictive side effects.FABP5 inhibitors show promise as safer alternatives to benzodiazepines. Both THC and CBD can induce problems during early development, challenging the notion that CBD is universally safe, especially during pregnancy.Dietary interventions, like omega-3 supplementation or antioxidants (e.g., L-theanine, N-acetylcysteine), may counteract the negative psychiatric effects of cannabinoid exposure, particularly during adolescence. The North American diet, high in omega-6, contributes to neuroinflammation and mental health issues, underscoring the need for nutritional neuroscience to address these imbalances.Related episode:M&M 165: PUFAs in Brain Health & Disease, Dietary Fats, Brain Lipids, Nutrition | Richard Bazinet*Not medical advice.Support the showAll episodes, show notes, transcripts, and more at the M&M Substack Affiliates: KetoCitra—Ketone body BHB + potassium, calcium & magnesium, formulated with kidney health in mind. Dr. Dustin Sulak Home Healer Certification-BH Sales Kennel Kelp Holistic Healing Hour: Unlocking the Potential of Cannabinoids for Autism SupportOne area of exciting research involves the impact of cannabinoids – those fascinating compounds found in cannabis – on individuals with ASD. A study examining salivary biomarkers revealed that THC, CBD, and CBG each tend to influence distinct sets of these biological markers. This suggests that different cannabinoids might exert unique effects on the body's systems.Intriguingly, research has also indicated that some children with autism present with lower levels of certain circulating endocannabinoids – specifically AEA, OEA, and PEA. These are our body's own cannabis-like molecules, playing crucial roles in regulating various functions.A compelling 2019 Israeli study looked at children with autism who didn't initially respond to a THC:CBD ratio of 1:20. Interestingly, a significant number of these children showed better outcomes when their treatment was switched to a THC:CBD ratio of 1:6. This underscores the importance of finding the right balance and individualizing treatment.Grandpa Bill: So, as we digest these fascinating insights, two probing questions come to mind:Given the variability of ASD and the distinct impacts of different cannabinoids, how can we best personalize cannabinoid-based approaches to optimize individual outcomes? With limited FDA-approved medications for core autism symptoms, what further research is needed to rigorously evaluate the safety and efficacy of various cannabinoid ratios and combinations? #AutismSupport #Cannabinoids #HolisticHealing ,#Endo cannabinoid System,It's crucial to acknowledge that only two medications have received FDA approval to address the core symptoms of autism, underscoring the need for continued exploration of complementary approaches.Preclinical research also offers valuable insights. A rodent model of ASD showed that inhibiting the FAAH enzyme, which breaks down endocannabinoids, led to improvements in repetitive and compulsive behaviors. CBD is considered the most likely cannabinoid to replicate this mechanism. However, caution is warranted. High-dose CBD treatments have been associated with adverse effects, particularly in individuals with low appetite, low body weight, or increased sedation. Personalized dosing and careful monitoring are paramount. The "core symptoms" of autism often involve challenges in social communication and interaction, as well as restricted and repetitive behaviors. Interestingly, a specific study indicated that CBD-dominant treatment led to improvements in pica, the dangerous compulsion to consume non-food items. The research landscape surrounding cannabinoids and ASD is evolving rapidly. Key questions remain:How can we leverage the unique properties of different cannabinoids to create highly personalized interventions for individuals across the autism spectrum? What rigorous, large-scale clinical trials are necessary to definitively establish the safety and efficacy of various cannabinoid formulations for ASD?The journey of understanding and supporting individuals with ASD is complex and multifaceted. The potential of cannabinoids offers a promising avenue for exploration, but it must be approached with careful research, individualized strategies, and ongoing collaboration between researchers, clinicians, and the autism community, which over stating the OBVIOUS it is here!#AutismSpectrumDisorder #ASD #Cannabinoids #CBD ,#THC, #CBG, #EndocannabinoidSystem, #HolisticHealth, #Dr.DustinSulak ,#Research, #Neurodiversity, #BHSalesKennelKelpHolisticHealingHour ,#GrandpaBillsWisdom,

Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS), also known as "scromiting," is a debilitating condition characterized by severe nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain that affects heavy cannabis users. Dr. Casey Grover explains this increasingly common syndrome caused by high-potency cannabis products, which paradoxically improves with hot showers and proves challenging to treat with conventional medications.• First identified in 2009 and named "scromiting" to reflect the combined screaming and vomiting patients experience• Cannabis potency has increased dramatically from 1% THC in the 1970s to 25-30% THC in today's products• Patients experience cyclical episodes of diffuse abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting lasting 24-48 hours• Compulsive hot bathing is a hallmark symptom, with patients focusing hot water on their abdomen for relief• Standard anti-nausea medications like Zofran don't work well; psychiatric medications like Haldol often provide better relief• Many patients question the diagnosis because cannabis is thought to help nausea rather than cause it• Treatment requires cannabis cessation, though symptoms may persist for months after quitting• Multiple theories explain CHS, including nerve hypersensitivity and paradoxical stress responses from high-dose THCTo contact Dr. Grover: ammadeeasy@fastmail.com

The NoCo Hemp Expo wrapped up its eleventh annual event last week in Estes Park, Colorado. The overall mood was optimistic, according to attendees, but there was an undercurrent of uncertainty and angst. The industry stands at a crossroads. Is it too dramatic (or melodramatic) to call it the battle for the soul of the industry? The word hemp means different things to different people, but for over a thousand years, the English word hemp meant one thing: the crop you farm at scale to produce raw materials for industry and food — ropes, sail cloth, paper, animal feed. But now, a quarter way through the 21st Century, the definition of hemp, some would say, has expanded, leading to new opportunities, while others might say the new definition of hemp has been co-opted and pejorative. In this episode of the Lancaster Farming Industrial Hemp Podcast, host Eric Hurlock (with co-host Sophia Kurzius) gathers insights from 12 industry leaders, farmers, processors, advocates and policy experts to examine the defining issue of our time: the meaning of the word “hemp.” From Joy Beckerman's impassioned plea to protect the fiber and grain future of hemp, to Chris Fontes' nuanced defense of the cannabinoid market, this episode captures the friction and common ground shaping hemp's next chapter. And what's this we hear about executive orders coming soon that will redefine the hemp space even further? Plus, why you can't tell the story of hemp in America without talking about hemp on tribal land. Hemp is a game changer for Indigenous communities. Hempcrete, for instance, gives the people on reservations almost immediate access to addressing their housing needs in a way that was never available to them. "Hemp is achievable, it's circular, and the stories I hear from people in Indigenous communities are incredibly inspiring," said host Eric Hurlock. Send us a textShort Summary: A deep dive into the science of oxidative stress, antioxidants, aging, and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's.About the guest: Pamela Maher, PhD is a professor at the Salk Institute in San Diego, California, with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases, oxidative stress, and antioxidants.Note: Podcast episodes are fully available to paid subscribers on the M&M Substack and everyone on YouTube. Partial versions are available elsewhere. Full transcript and other information on Substack.Episode Summary: Dr. Pamela Maher discusses her research on cell death mechanisms, including apoptosis and ferroptosis, and their roles in health and disease. They discuss how oxidative stress from reactive oxygen species can damage cells, the body's antioxidant defenses like glutathione and studies on natural compounds—fisetin, curcumin, and cannabinol (CBN)—that may protect against brain cell loss. The conversation covers CBN's mitochondrial benefits in aging mouse models and broader risk factors for dementia, like obesity and hearing loss, emphasizing early intervention.Key Takeaways:Apoptosis is a controlled cell death process vital for development, while ferroptosis, linked to oxidative stress and iron, causes cells to burst and is tied to diseases like Alzheimer's.Oxidative stress arises when reactive oxygen species overwhelm antioxidants, damaging DNA, proteins, and cell membranes, especially polyunsaturated fats.Glutathione, a key antioxidant, relies on cysteine and declines with age, but supplements like N-acetylcysteine might help, though tolerability varies.Cannabinol (CBN), a THC byproduct, protects mitochondria and improves memory in aging mice, hinting at therapeutic potential beyond cannabinoid receptors.Middle-age risk factors like visceral obesity, type 2 diabetes, and hearing loss significantly increase dementia risk, but hearing aids can reduce it.Related episode:M&M #165: PUFAs in Brain Health & Disease, Dietary Fats, Brain Lipids, Nutrition | Richard Bazinet*Not medical aSupport the showAll episodes, show notes, transcripts, etc. at the M&M Substack Affiliates: Lumen device to optimize your metabolism for weight loss or athletic performance. There are many things that can impact your ability to become pregnant. In today's episode, I'm reviewing the top 10 things to consider if you are TTC. 1. Environmental Toxins. Avoid microwaving food and plastic containers or bottles. Always store food and glass or stainless steel containers. Million Marker offers a test to find out if you have in-body toxicity. 2. Chemicals in food and everyday products. Verify that the products you are using are chemical free. You can do that on https://www.ewg.org/ 3. Being sedentary. The CDC and American College of OBGYN, both recommend exercise in amounts of 150 minutes per week. Avoid over exercising, as low BMI can also cause fertility issues. 4. Food allergies or intolerances. Work with a nutritionist to find out if you have a food allergy or other food intolerance. You may also want to consider working with a specialist if you have PCOS or using Pollie.co to help you manage PCOS if you have it. 5. Blocked Fallopian Tubes. Check with your doctor to find out if this is what may be causing you to have a hard time TTC. 6. THC and Cannabinoids can affect the motility of the fallopian tube and the receptors in the lining of the uterus. This makes embryo implantation harder and it might not happen as quickly as you would want. 7. Nicotine. Nicotine can affect the DNA and the egg in the sperm cells, and it can also affect a woman's fertility such that she could go potentially into menopause earlier. 8. Blaming birth control pills. Many people think that birth control pills "cause" infertility, but the truth is that because they regulate your period they may be masking the indicators of infertility. Make sure you get your hormone levels checked with your doctor every year to confirm your levels. 9. Ignoring biology. Every woman is born with a finite number of eggs, and if you want to wait to have kids until later in life, be sure and freeze your eggs when you are in your 20s. 10. Not getting enough sleep. Listen on Dr. Aimee's website. Curious about IVF? Click here to join Dr. Aimee for The IVF Class. The next live class call is on Monday, April 21, 2025 at 4pm PST, where Dr. Aimee will explain IVF and egg freezing and there will be time to ask her your questions live on Zoom. Dr. Aimee Eyvazzadeh is one of America's most well known fertility doctors. Her success rate at baby-making is what gives future parents hope when all hope is lost. She pioneered the TUSHY Method and BALLS Method to decrease your time to pregnancy. Learn more about the TUSHY Method and find a wealth of fertility resources at www.draimee.org.
While the US continues to struggle in its relationship to cannabis medicine, it sure would be helpful if we could obtain non-THC cannabinoids from more plants than just cannabis. On episode #121 of Shaping Fire, host Shango Los chats with cutting-edge plant biochemist Dr. Paula Berman about the Wooly Umbrella plant, its rare biochemical attributes, successful extraction methods, and the future of non-cannabis cannabinoids from this species.
