Le canon d'aujourd'hui est il l'archive de demain? » Se demandait William Marx, titulaire de la chaire de littératures comparées, à la fin du cours précédent.  Nous voici presque au terme de sa grande enquête autour de la notion de « bibliothèques invisibles ». Aujourd'hui il s'attache à la relation des bibliothèques au pouvoir. Il s'agit également du pouvoir que peuvent avoir les bibliothèques. Dans la belle enquête que Marion Vignal a consacré à la bibliothèque, miroir de notre intimité pour le journal Le Monde fin 2020, l'architecte Aline Asmar d'Amman, d'origine libanaise a expliqué que pour elle, « la plus belle bibliothèque du monde restera celle du hall de son immeuble à Beyrouth, pendant la guerre ». A la journaliste, elle a indiqué  : « Nous y avions rassemblé les livres de chacun et on y piochait librement. C'était la seule façon, dans ce contexte, de pouvoir continuer de s'échapper et de rêver. » Dans le cours précédent, William Marx a proposé d'élaborer « une théorie de l'archive, une théorie de la bibliothèque. Il est « parti de la bibliothèque mentale, celle que chacun d'entre nous a dans la tête, à savoir l'ensemble des ouvres qui peuplent un esprit ». "Cette bibliothèque mentale , a-t-il rappelé, ne surgit pas toute seule dans l'esprit. Elle est le produit de lectures, d'enseignements, de souvenirs. Ces souvenirs et ces enseignements renvoient à des livres bien réels. À de rares exceptions près, toutes les ouvres qui existent dans un esprit existent réellement quelque part dans une bibliothèque matérielle". L'inverse n'est pas vrai, a également noté le philologue. "On peut être certain que tous les livres disposés sur les étagères des bibliothèques visibles n'ont pas leur correspondant dans une bibliothèque mentale. Pour le dire autrement, tous les livres réels conservés dans les bibliothèques visibles n'ont pas été lus. Il y a des livres qui ne sont jamais lus ou qui sont lus une seule fois". Cela posé, William Marx a proposé de "fusionner mentalement toutes ces bibliothèques visibles". "On peut ainsi considérer l'ensemble des livres figurant dans toutes les bibliothèques visibles dans le monde, a-t-il souligné. Cet ensemble de livres représente la totalité de livres ou documents qu'il est possible de lire. Nous pourrions appeler cet ensemble la bibliothèque totale, mais je préfère lui donner le nom d'Archive." Il définit alors cinq niveaux différents : "la Bibliothèque de Babel (tous les livres virtuellement imaginables, par permutation des caractères) ; le Passé, la Totalité, le Totum ( tout ce qui a été produit dans l'histoire, mais qui n'a pas été nécessairement conservé) ; l'Archive (tout ce qui a été conservé, et notamment les bibliothèques matérielles ou visibles) ; les canons (sociaux, culturels : les canons sont des bibliothèques mentales au niveau collectif) ; les bibliothèques mentales (individuelles)".  Mais avant de retrouver les question de pouvoir, quel le Mal d'archive ?  Nous gagnons le Collège de France, le 30 mars 2021 pour le cours de William Marx, aujourd'hui « Bibliothèques et pouvoir »

Será porventura uma pretensão exagerada da parte do Senhor, se, em compensação de tão grande dom, nos pede o nosso pobre coração todo inteiro? Todavia quantos cristãos não há que Lho recusam completamente ou Lho querem dar, mas dividido entre Ele e as criaturas? I. Jesus Cristo não satisfez o seu amor, sacrificando a sua vida por nós num oceano de ignomínias e dores, a fim de patentear o amor que nos tinha. Além disso, e para nos obrigar mais fortemente a amá-Lo, quis, na véspera da sua morte, deixar-se todo a nós como nosso alimento na santíssima Eucaristia. ― Deus é todo-poderoso, mas depois de dar-se a uma alma neste Sacramento de amor, não lhe pode dar mais. Diz o Concílio de Trento que Jesus, dando-se aos homens na santa comunhão, derramou (por assim dizer) neste único dom todas as riquezas de seu amor infinito: Divitias sui erga homines amoris velut effudit. Como não se julgaria honrado, escreve São Francisco de Sales, o vassalo a quem o príncipe enviasse algumas iguarias da sua mesa! E que seria se lhe desse para sustento alguma coisa da sua própria substância? Jesus Cristo, porém, na santa comunhão, nos dá para sustento, não só uma parte de suamesa, não só uma parte da sua carne sacrossanta,mas o seu corpo inteiro: Accipite et comedite: hoc est corpus meum (1) ― “Tomai e comei, isto é o meu corpo”. E com o corpo nos dá também a alma e a divindade. Numa palavra, diz São João Crisóstomo, Jesus Cristo dando-se a si próprio no Santíssimo Sacramento, dá tudo o que tem e não Lhe resta mais nada para dar: Totum tibi dedit, nihil sibi reliquit..... É pois com razão que este dom é chamado por Santo Tomás: sacramento e penhor de amor, e por São Bernardo: amor dos amores: amor amorum, porque Jesus Cristo reúne e completa neste sacramento todas as outras finezas do seu amor para conosco. Pelo mesmo motivo Santa Maria Madalena de Pazzi chamava o dia em que Jesus instituiu este sacramento, o dia do amor. Ó maravilha e prodígio do amor divino! Ómeu caro Jesus, quemais podeis executar para nos atrair a vosso amor? Ah! Dai-nos a conhecer por que excesso de amor Vos reduzistes a estado de alimento, para Vos unir a pobres e vis pecadores como somos? Ó meu Redentor, vossa ternura para comigo tem sido tão grande, que não recusastes dar-Vos muitas vezes todo a mim na santa comunhão; e eu, quantas vezes tive a ingratidão de Vos expulsar da minha alma! Mas não é possível que desprezeis um coração contrito e humilhado. Pormim Vos fizestes homem, por mim morrestes e chegastes a Vos fazer meu alimento; após isto, que Vos fica ainda por fazer no intuito de conquistardesmeu amor? Ah! Não poder eumorrer de dor, cada vez que me lembro de ter assim desprezado vossa graça! Ó meu Amor, arrependo- me de todo o meu coração de Vos ter ofendido. Amo-Vos, ó Bondade infinita; amo-Vos, ó Amor infinito. Nada mais desejo senão amar-Vos, e nada mais temo senão viver sem Vosamar. Meu amado Jesus, não recuseis vir à minha alma.
