It has four cylinders. It won ten world championships, claimed first in over a hundred races and still holds the world record for longest uninterrupted streak with twenty-two wins in a row. It's the Honda NSR500, and it might be the meanest, fastest two-wheeling machine of the 20th century. But it really didn't start out like that. Turn back the clock to those first few years, and this modern legend looked more like a lame duck. The weight distribution was horrible, it took Freddy Spencer to the bloody edge and even famous 'wild man' Wayne Gardner could barely wrestle it under control. But they won with it, and the bike kept getting better, turning itself into a world title machine. From Spencer to Gardner to Lawson to Doohan to Crivillé and, finally, to Valentino Rossi - all of them riding Honda's famous twostroke. So, in the direct aftermath of Ducati's dashed hopes of breaking Honda's record, we take a look at the NSR500 and how it changed the landscape. And maybe we discover that the more things change, the more they stay the same...Want more? Visit our website or support us on Patreon.
And the winner is… And the winner is: Christophe Ponsson.

A half-dozen years ago flat track racing was having the most unusual resurgence. The most American—and the most cultish—of all motorcycle sport had superstars like Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi under its spell. But then something happened. The grids shrunk, the riders began to feud with management, and the spectators stayed away. This week Cory Texter, a former champion in the sport and a long-time critic, is our guest as we try to unpack how something with so much momentum hit the skids with such ferocity.

We also preview the upcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and ask if the weather could once well play into Marquez's hands. Will Bagnaia have an answer? And is there any chance of Pedro Acosta or Brad Binder getting on a par with the Ducatis?

It was a rain-affected classic as Round 2 of the World Endurance Championship headed to Emilia-Romagna and the 6 Hours of Imola. Ferrari were hopeful for home glory after a perfect 1-2-3 in Qualifying, but a strategic blunder when the rain fell mid-race dashed all hope for the Italian manufacturer. On the Autosport podcast, Kevin Turner is joined by Gary Watkins as they break down just how Ferrari lost in Imola, how Kamui Kobayashi survived the rain, a massive fuel save at the end of the race, and the pressure of Kevin Estre in the Porsche Penske. There's also a chat about the state of the field's Balance of Performance and why Imola showed the FIA and ACO still might be missing the mark, and the LMGT3 category as Team WRT brought home a 1-2 finish for BMW, with MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi scoring his first WEC podium. As 2024 MotoGP launch season gets into full swing, The Race MotoGP Podcast joins Simon Patterson on his Italian road trip from Gresini to VR46 via a four-day Ducati extravaganza. He keeps Matt Beer and Valentin Khorounzhiy posted as he follows up attending Marc Marquez's debut in Ducati colours with a factory Ducati team launch where the main revelation was news of an aero change too significant to risk revealing before testing. We explain why Ducati - for all its domination - is potentially vulnerable around aero development, despite pioneering wings on MotoGP bikes in the 2010s. As for Valentino Rossi's new-liveried team, we ponder the early dynamic surrounding new signing Fabio Di Giannantonio and whether the 2023-spec Ducatis can really keep up with their factory-spec brethren. We also discuss the off-the-record element of major launch events and how useful they can be for relationships with riders, plus Ducati's attempt to transfer its MotoGP and World Superbike domination to motocross.
