Lars and Luke Farabee, two adventures in their fool's quest to talk about and rank every Fantasy Film ever made
Hello! Back again with YOU ONLY MOVE TWICE, one of the best Bond Parody/Commentaries ever made, TOMORROW NEVER DIES and THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, Brosnan's next two outings which were pretty good!
It's been a while. We're doing okay. We decided to do 3 films at once, starting with LICENSE TO KILL, the last Timothy Dalton movie, and it's generally okayness! BULLETS AREN'T CHEAP, a short SNL sketch which was one joke for 7 minutes! And GOLDENEYE, inwhich three grown men sound like three kids gushing about a Marvel Film because it's amazing!
Hello! This is something different...again. We're gonna try to do a DnD Actual play in the feed from time to time, we will absolutely still be doing movie discussions as well. This episode is a recap of what happened in the first session, because our recordings failed. We will be back with an actual episode of the game next time. Stick around if you'd like.
The surprisingly good THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS with Timothy Dalton is next up, shocking us after years of Roger Moore! It's been a while since we've done this, but it's been a really hard year for us. So for anyone who's stuck around, thanks.
The long nightmare is over. With A VIEW TO A KILL, we're finally done with Roger Moore.
Christmas Bells are Ringing! We're winding down the year with two movies from opposite ends of the spectrum. We talk about the Die Hard Christmas Movie argument, the thought process behind VIOLENT NIGHT, the depths of 80s cocaine in SANTA CLAUS: THE MOVIE, and have a good time all around!
James Bond is back....sort of? A James Bond shaped outing in NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN! IP Rights Issues! Competing Bonds! A lack of the theme song!
Hey hey! Two updates in a month! We're here with 1999's SLEEPY HOLLOW, a fun creep show, the amazing 90's HOCUS POCUS and it's somewhat inexplicable fandom, we accidentally talk a lot about HOCUS POCUS 2, and we spend like...half the run time talking about pop culture and how things get rebooted! Enjoy!
Holy crap we're back after too long! DRACULA UNTOLD and BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA is on the menu today!
...Anyway here's OCTOPUSSY
And the winter of our discontent has ended with FOR YOUR EYES ONLY...sort of. A mediocre slog through the bushes with Roger Moore!
Our final podcast episode of the year is Ralph Bakshi's LORD OF THE RINGS! Inevitably we talk about Peter Jackson, high fantasy in general, click clacking of keyboards, and the omnipresent sound of us eating reverberating throughout the episode!
And it's Commentary time again! Matt and I are back with inarguably the most whole of the film series, A NEW HOPE, the movie that most describes why we are the way we are! As always, this isn't a traditional podcast, so tune in next time for something more podcasty!
And we're back with MOONRAKER! Gotta tell you, this was a long, LONG movie to get through!
RISE FROM YOUR GRAVEEEEEEE! After a long personal hiatus, we're back with 1977's THE SPY WHO LOVED ME! This surprisingly good movie was fun to talk about!
Another Hiatus breaker (Man we are all about hiatus): HIGHLANDER 2: THE RENEGADE VERSION. We talk about how...incredible...this movie is, what it does right, what it does wrong, and general meanderings! Thanks for stopping by!
And we're back with ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY! As always, I am joined by Matt and this is an alternate audio commentary, not a traditional podcast!
After a month long technical hiatus we are back with 1974's THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN! While we enjoyed it more than the previous few, we talk about what could have gone right with it, and we avoid the most obvious part of the movie as well!
SOLO is up for Matt and I this time around, a bit slower commentary than other movies but still interesting, we talk about Disney Star Wars a fair amount. As always, this isn't a traditional podcast, so if that's not your cuppa, feel free to join us next time!
On today's episode we have the incredible Lillian Boyd of Rank and Vile podcast joining us for three good ones! We talk about the pretty good MORTAL KOMBAT 2021 and our experiences with the games, the delightfully gory and funny ARMY OF DARKNESS and how I'm not much of a horror ghoul, and the truly, truly spectacular THE MUMMY 1999!
BOND IS BACK!...sort of! With Roger Moore taking the helm in LIVE AND LET DIE! We talk about it's...mediocrity, how it's a waste of several plot points, kind of really uncomfortable and better movies along the way!
Our alternate commentary series continues with REVENGE OF THE SITH! As always, this isn't a traditional podcast, so if that's not what you're into, we totally understand!
Tonight's Feature: The truly bad DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER! We talk about how tired everything is, the nonsense plot, and boredom with the franchise!
Our first episode of the Year! We talk about our experiences with Disney and how close we've been to Disneyworld, SWORD IN THE STONE and how it's weird but okay, office sitcoms and what's good about them, and the beautiful and amazing ENCANTO!
And 2021 ends with 2008 THE CLONE WARS! As always, this isn't a traditional podcast, rather an alternate commentary track, so if that's not your thing, totally understand!
Our last podcast episode of 2021, to close out this shitball year! We talk about the nature of potato based snacks, what makes a Christmas Movie, JINGLE JANGLE and how loud and bright and pretty good it is, and how A BOY CALLED CHRISTMAS is sort of a random events movie that isn't good!
Hello and welcome! We are back with ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, our first change of Bond's occurs as we switch to George Lazenby's first and only outing! We're a bit short today, but we talk about what's good and weird about it, and the shocking fact that we all sort of loved this?
TBWBWYA Is back with 2002's ATTACK OF THE CLONES! Once again this is an alternate commentary track for one of the Star Wars films, so if that's not your cuppa we totally understand. Matt and I talk about how this was one of the few movies he owned on DVD, various tangents, and our love of the series continues!
Our strange surge of updates continues marginally abated! Losing huge chunks of recording will not stop us! On this bout we talk about the awful SEVENTH SON and how completely unmemorable it is, the ups and downs of BEASTMASTER and reminisce about a childhood friend, we stop to talk for a long time about The Synder Cut, and Lars' stops to think about how good THE THIRTEENTH WARRIOR is!
What's this? Another update in a semi timely manner? Bored. James Bored. is back with YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, a movie featuring a gigantic Romulan, possibly Q's coolest gadget ever, and massive amounts of problematic stuff in a surprisingly good movie! On a personal note, this has been a very tough year on me, and us, so we really appreciate anyone who's stuck around for all of the ups and downs. Thank You.
Hey guess what, we've got another project going! This is a bit different from our usual fare, this is a commentary track I recorded with my best friend Matt, meant to be played along with Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace! This will be a longform retrospective of each theatrical release Star Wars film, from the two of us reminiscing about how we became friends because of Star Wars, how it's affected us, the way the movies are made and work, bits we like and don't like...the works.
And we're back to our usual standard of terrible films with 1967's CASINO ROYALE! We talk about the very, very few high points, how people got paid to be in it, the missed opportunities of multiple Bonds and how that could have affected the rest of the series, and what makes better parodies work!
Hello and welcome to Sword and Bored: Sidequest! This week I am joined by Evan McDevitt, my best friend in the world, and we are talking about MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE! We touch on the toy line multiple times, music and what this movie wants to be, how Frank Langella's Skeletor is one of the all time greats, and acts of Fatherly Love! Check it out!
THUNDERBALLLLLLLLL The fantastic theme by Tom Jones comes up on this one, we talk about what it means compared to Goldfinger, how it's kind of a big movie, and whether or not we actually like it!
THE DEAD SPEAK! We are back after too long a hiatus, talking about maybe our most solid slate of movies ever! We go back to the House of Mouse for our three! We once again talk about ALADDIN...the animated classic this time, how Robin Williams was a genius, how SLEEPING BEAUTY defines and determines the formula for Princess movies, and how ROBIN HOOD is easily the best Robin Hood movie for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is he's actually Robin Hood in it!
Hello and happy new year! After an extended hiatus we are back with GOLDFINGER, my favorite Bond movie. We discuss how it's the one everyone thinks of as Bond, how it sets the stage for most every piece of Bond media afterwards and how we have a Formula finally, interesting tidbits about actors and inspiration, and dance around who Goldfinger himself reminds us of!
To close out 2020, we talk about the surprisingly good DAWN OF THE DRAGON SLAYER, the absolutely atrocious ERAGON and how it's more or less STAR WARS, and the still fantastic, heavily dwarven REIGN OF FIRE! See you all next year!
James Bond is Back! This time around we are talking about the classic FROM RUSSIA, WITH LOVE, considered by two thirds of the hosts to be the best Bond! We gush about the late Sir Sean Connery, talk about his career and his one character that he made work in every movie, about how Bond is starting to take shape and how we have almost all the pieces of what makes a Bond movie! BORED, JAMES BORED WILL RETURN IN...GOLDFINGER
Hello! On this special spooky spooky Halloweenish episode, Lars is off, so filling in is the amazing Ryan Boyd of Rank and Vile! The show we shamelessly ripped off for this! We talk about LEGEND(1986) and how it's certainly movie shaped, how we all have a cultural memory of THE WITCHES, Great British Bakeoff and our favorites taken too soon from us, rambles about video games and other things, and the still fantastic MONSTER SQUAD! Enjoy!
Episode 2 of our side quest deep dive into every James Bond is here. DR. NO, the first official Bond movie is on the docket. We talk about how it's still a bit odd but they are finding their feet, iconic bits of cinematic history, 60s kitsch, and how big a step up it was from Casino Royale!
And we're back after a short break! We take a breather from traditionally fantasy movies to talk about THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD and how every scrap of Robin Hood media is directly influenced by that movie, how THREE MUSKETEERS(1993) is such an inexplicable movie, how it stacks up against Prince of Thieves, I make way, way too many Star Wars comparisons, we both neglect to realize that they had three singers on that track for a reason, how A KNIGHT'S TALE is still incredible and what a loss Heath Ledger was!
Here we go! A little Side Project we have going with Dad, talking about every James Bond put to film, in chronologically order. We're starting with the 1954 made for TV Drama, staring American Barry Nelson as James "Jimmy" Bond. Yeah. But Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre is pretty good! Along the way we talk about why we're doing this, what is in store, and Dad's history with the franchise. Farmington Martini: Pilsner, such as PBR, and 3 olives. A drink, dinner, and show.
Hello again! We're here talking about THE OLD GUARD and how we want Charlize Theron to have a long career, the abysmal AMAZONS and how we love and hate Roger Corman, Halloweens past and how it had better sound, FIRE AND ICE and adult cartoons looking the same, and the awkwardness of movies with families! Hope you enjoy!
On this episode we are joined once again by our dad Bill Farabee! We talk about animals in the wild, how pretty okay BULLETPROOF MONK is, how godawful AGAINST THE DARK is and the power of spite, and how utterly, utterly astounding HIGHLANDER continues to be!
The funeral march of 2020 continues! THE LAST WITCH HUNTER kind of rules and we love it! We talk about the police protests and how we grew up and our own experiences related to that! How LANCELOT: GUARDIAN OF TIME is just the most boring thing possible and terrible hair!
Kids Running! Quarantine Stories! ALICE IN WONDERLAND's mediocrity! THE BLACK CAULDRON and the path of Disney! Discussion of Music and Emotion in Fantasy! WILLOW's utter charm! Check us out!
Our 20th Episode! Lars opens so many bags of chips! We talk about the unearned emotions of ONWARD, boredom of quarantine since we're all experiencing that in some form, how LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN is kind of okay, and how BABES WITH BLADES is a very strange piece that doesn't make sense in a lot of ways!
On this very special LIVE episode, live because children run back and forth and we only use minimal edits, Lars and I talk about life under Coronavirus, how ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES was a staple of our childhood, Lars steals a Bill Murray speech, how FROZEN 2 was a better sequel than we ever got, the strange things that we've been going through not going anywhere, and how THE ADVENTURER: CURSE OF THE MIDAS BOX was a very weird movie. Hope you folks stick around, we're not going anywhere for a while.
A Year of Sword and Bored! Thanks for all of the listens. On this episode, we talk about how weird and delightful THE FIFTH ELEMENT is, poorly hum the music from a lot of these movies, how KRULL is immensely buoyed by Richard Horner's score, set dressing and dreamy design, how DEATHSTALKER AND THE WARRIORS FROM HELL is just atrocious, and how we're glad to be able to do this with each other for all of you! #swordandbored
On this episode, we're joined by Lars' Friend Rex, we talk about the Pretty good BRAVE, I regale with tales of the craziest festival I've ever heard of, how CAST A DEADLY SPELL is a great idea hampered by execution, Eleanor runs through the recording booth multiple times, how THE WIZARDS OF LOST KINGDOM is a big ol' pile of nuthin', how Roger Corman is one of the most infuriating characters in film! #swordandbored
On this episode, we talk about how THE LAST AIRBENDER is a hot pile of bleh, we talk about how the show was so much better, bad acting, the problem with Adaptations that don't...adapt, and moving cross country!
