Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Deirdre Marie Capone, author, public speaker, and the grandniece of one of the most infamous figures in American history—Al "Scarface" Capone. Through her unique family perspective, Deirdre offers a rare glimpse beyond the myths and media portrayals of the notorious Chicago mob boss, revealing the man she came to know through family stories and personal experiences. Her work sheds light on the private side of a family forever linked to organized crime while exploring the lasting impact that legacy has had across generations. In her acclaimed memoir, Uncle Al Capone: The Untold Story from Inside His Family, Deirdre separates fact from fiction, sharing firsthand accounts passed down through the Capone family. She discusses Al Capone's rise during the Prohibition era, his public image as America's most notorious gangster, his influence on organized crime in Chicago, and the personal relationships that existed behind closed doors. Her book presents a more nuanced portrait of a man whose life has been the subject of countless books, films, and legends. During this fascinating interview, Rob and Deirdre explore the realities of growing up with the Capone name, the truth behind many of the myths surrounding Al Capone, the history of organized crime in America, and how one family has worked to preserve an honest account of its past. Their conversation examines the intersection of history, crime, family loyalty, and public perception while offering listeners a unique perspective on one of the twentieth century's most recognizable historical figures. Whether you're fascinated by true crime, American history, organized crime, or the human stories behind legendary figures, this episode of The 'X' Zone Radio Show offers an insightful and compelling look inside the Capone family through the eyes of someone who lived its legacy.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support.Please note that all CANCOM/XZBN radio and/or television shows are Copyright © REL-MAR McConnell Meda Company, Niagara, Ontario, Canada – www.rel-mar.com. This week, Kathryn Eisman joins Leigh Campbell to decode what your wardrobe secretly reveals about you, and how a single accessory can completely transform an outfit. Having built an impressive career in the fashion journalism space, Kathryn knows a thing or two about style. But she also has a talent for being able to learn so much about you from just your outfit. She's lifting the curtain on how she reads the subtle "micro-data points" in everyday outfits, her holy-grail advice for putting together an outfit and the most sentimental item she has in her own wardrobe. Plus, Kathryn opens up about founding her cult-favourite fashion movement brand, High Heel Jungle, and what it really feels like to see megastars like Sabrina Carpenter, The Kardahsians and Chappell Roan stepping out in her iconic pieces! This week a couple of films about crime paying to varying degrees. Earl Macklin is attacked on his first night outside after 27-months. After he learns those responsible killed his brother and tortured his girlfriend, Earl decides they owe him for his troubles. Until they pay, he will keep robbing their operations. The fifth film adaption of Donald E Westlake's Parker and based on the third book in the series- The Outfit. After an eventful Christmas in New York, Nick and Nora Charles return home for an equally eventful New Year's. Nora's cousin Selma's missing husband returns only long enough to get shot and Selma is found standing over him with a gun in her hand. Since everyone in San Francisco wanted him dead, it's going to take our sleuthing couple a few days to untangle this knot. The second film in the series based on Dashiell Hammett's characters and the sixth to feature franchise leads Myrna Loy and William Powell together- After the Thin Man. All that and a strange coincidence as the curtain closes that is most definitely not about anything actually happening in the real world. Join us, won't you? Episode 477- Earl and Nora
Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
On this episode of @Betches, Sami, Jordana, and Aleen are back for a hiatus check-in and, thanks to Josh Cellars, put their painting skills to the test. Then, they tackle a series of impossible friendship dilemmas: Would you lie to protect a surprise proposal? Tell your friend you hate their new partner? Expose who started a rumor? They also debate how many last-minute cancellations are too many, how late is officially rude, and why being late to a Zoom somehow feels even worse. Plus, they get brutally honest about bad outfits, embarrassing stains, wardrobe malfunctions, and when being a good friend means speaking up before it's too late. Learn more about your ad choices. After surviving a terrorist nightmare, Justice Department lawyer Blake Hudson takes on a new enemy: the Chicago mafia. Assigned to the Organized Crime Strike Force, he dives into a world that's nothing like the movies. The Chicago Outfit may still live in Al Capone's shadow, but its power has evolved—slicker, smarter, and more dangerous than ever. At its center is Enzo Renzi—a polished consigliere with an Ivy League mind and a conscience buried beneath layers of loyalty. To Blake, he's the key to bringing the Outfit down. To others, he's a marked man. Ruthless killers close in, and neither Enzo nor Blake knows who's behind the crosshairs. When a secret meeting between rival gangs threatens to ignite a citywide war, Blake races to stop it—only to uncover something far darker than mob violence: a hidden network whose reach extends deep into America's institutions. Chad Boudreaux is a Washington insider hired by the U.S. Department of Justice the night before the September 11, 2001 attacks—launching him immediately into counterterrorism work that earned him high accolades at an early age. His success in the Justice Department carried him to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where his role as Deputy Chief of Staff allowed him to work directly on significant policy, operational, and legal issues facing the Department. He currently is the chief legal officer of a publicly traded, Fortune 300 company and America's largest military shipbuilder. Boudreaux leverages his unique, high-level experience in global security matters and his extensive legal expertise to craft breathtaking, insider stories of mystery and intrigue that are ripped from today's headlines and are sure to shock his readers. book out now!

A bit of a super-sized week of physical media (box sets will do that to you) but one worthy of appreciation and curiosity. Thankfully there are a number of very economical (in length) classics from the film noir era to appreciate. If you don't already know one of the big plot twists of the '70s sci-fi era you get your chance. You get one of the best films from the respective careers of Mario Bava and Elvis Presley. There is some early Wes Craven and late Tobe Hooper. Rock Hudson and Doris Day's classic rom-com gets an upgrade. A brat packer become a serial killer (no, not Andrew McCarthy). WE GOT ONE of our Why-Is-This-Not-On-Blu-Ray titles, a classic farce from the 1980s. Plus, Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill is edited into one singular complete vision. Arrow (Soylent Green (4K), The Outfit (1973)) Warner Archive (The Keyhole, Bonnie Scotland, Crime Wave) Kino (Brit Noir Collection III, King Creole (4K), The Cop in Blue Jeans, Deadly Blessing (4K)) Vinegar Syndrome (The Mangler 4K) Severin (A Bay of Blood (4K), Disco Italiano, Music Machine) Universal (Pillow Talk (4K)) Alliance (Micki & Maude, Relentless ) Lionsgate (Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair (4K)) TV (Stranger Things (The Complete Series) (4K), The Paper: Season 1) NEW (The Devil Wears Prada 2, Pressure (4K), HappyEnd, In the Grey, Is God Is, Mortal Kombat II (4K), A Poet, Suspended Time) CLICK ON THE FILMS TO RENT OR PURCHASE AND HELP OUT THE MOVIE MADNESS PODCAST OR BUY FROM MOVIEZYNG Be sure to check out Erik's Weekly Box Office Column – At Rotten Tomatoes Critics' Classics Series – At Elk Grove Cinema in Elk Grove Village, IL Chicago Screening Schedule - All the films coming to theaters and streaming Physical Media Schedule - Click & Buy upcoming titles for your library. Johnny Mac covers comedy news including Marcello Hernandez promoting Netflix's “72 Hours” with Kevin Hart, sharing Today Show banter where Marcelo jokes about Hart's nonstop hustling, wardrobe, and sockless style, plus a less-funny Late Night with Seth Meyers segment mocking Hart's “#da kid” persona. A “kerfuffle/kerfluffle” arises after Whitney Cummings says a Trump joke from the Mark Twain Prize broadcast was requested to be cut over lawsuit fears; Netflix denies cutting it and says the Kennedy Center had contractual rights, while Cummings states Netflix supported comics. Mom returned every single Fourth of July outfit she ordered and ended up finding her dress at the grocery store and we cannot make this up. She also pulled the gas nozzle out too early at the station and sprayed gas all over herself and her car and the reason why is so very Carol. And every single family member is descending on the house for Fourth of July and the tent is up and the caterers are coming and we are so ready.

Hi guys! it's Heidi! In this episode of the Wildly Successful Lifestyle podcast, I'm sharing one of my favorite takeaways from our recent two-week adventure in Europe. While people-watching on the beautiful streets of Paris, I realized that the most magnetic thing you can wear isn't expensive clothes or the latest trends — it's the confidence with which you carry yourself.I talk about real moments from the trip, what truly makes a woman beautiful (at any age or size), and why investing in self-love, movement, and pampering yourself matters more than any shopping spree. This one is filled with inspiring stories, mindset shifts, and gentle reminders that will help you feel radiant in your own skin. The best outfit really is confidence. I hope it uplifts your day and reminds you how powerful you already are.

THE FIRST ALL-STAR GAME with author Randall Sullivan What happens when a botched assassination attempt on a president, the “Outfit,” the Great Depression, and the Legend of Babe Ruth collide in Chicago? Author Randall Sullivan reveals how the first so-called “Game of the Century” helped pull America out of its darkest era. Discover the untold history of baseball's first All-Star Game and the legends that shaped the sport. In 1933, an assassin fired six bullets at President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt in Miami. Every single bullet missed FDR, but they fatally struck Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak. Out of the political chaos of that assassination, a city's desperation to escape the shadow of Al Capone's crime syndicate, and the darkest, most terrifying days of the Great Depression, an unbelievable gamble was born. To save the city's morale, a new mayor and a sports editor dreamed up the ultimate distraction: the first Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The Book THE FIRST ALL-STAR GAME: Babe Ruth, FDR, and America at the Crossroads (Atlantic Monthly Press, June 2, 2026) Summary Brian O'Leary sits down with three-time Pulitzer Prize nominee Randall Sullivan to discuss his new book, THE FIRST ALL-STAR GAME: Babe Ruth, FDR, and America at the Crossroads (Atlantic Monthly Press, June 2, 2026). Sullivan explains that the book was born from his discouragement over modern political polarization, leading him to research how the United States survived the Great Depression. The conversation traces the chain reaction of events that created the 1933 Chicago World's Fair and the first-ever All-Star Game. This includes a Miami assassination attempt on President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt that resulted in the death of Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak. Throughout the episode, we dive into the towering mythos of Babe Ruth, noting that his absence in 1925 caused American League attendance to plummet. We also explore the cultural fallout of the 1919 Black Sox scandal, the iron-fisted rule of Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis, and the forgotten legacies of players like Chuck Klein and Lefty O'Doul. Key Takeaways The Origins of the All-Star Game: The 1933 game was staged as a one-off exhibition for the Chicago World's Fair. It was pitched by sports editor Arch Ward to Mayor Edward Nash to boost morale after Mayor Cermak's tragic death. Babe Ruth's Unmatched Stardom: Ruth's absence due to illness in 1925 caused American League attendance to drop by 34%. Furthermore, he holds the top three WAR (Wins Above Replacement) seasons in Major League history. That's just the tip of the iceberg of the Ruthian Legend (and reality). The Black Sox Legacy: The 1919 scandal resulted in a complicated trial where players were acquitted by a working-class jury. However, Judge Landis later banned them for life, restoring baseball's image in the eyes of the outraged American public. Overlooked Baseball Legends: Sullivan argues that Lefty O'Doul deserves Hall of Fame recognition. O'Doul not only hit .398 with 254 hits in a 154-game season, but he was also instrumental in bringing baseball to Japan and in developing it there. Memorable Quotes “If Michael Jordan had been injured in a season, maybe NBA attendance would've dropped by 3.4%… but without Babe Ruth, it dropped by 34%.” – Randall Sullivan “I want people to understand… that this was more than a game. And it was more than the inauguration of a tradition. It was a turning point in American history.” – Randall Sullivan Resources Mentioned THE FIRST ALL-STAR GAME: Babe Ruth, FDR, and America at the Crossroads (Atlantic Monthly Press, June 2, 2026). You've been writing about her for years. You know the way she carries herself. You know the outfits she'd wear, the dinners she'd attend, the way she says her opinion at the table without softening it first. You have written about her so many times you could find her blindfolded. And she is still standing on the wrong side of the page. Today I'm questioning something I love – and that I know you love, too. Journaling is beautiful. It's sacred. But somewhere along the way, writing about the woman you want to become started to feel like the same thing as becoming her. It's not. In this episode, we talk about the gap between the woman on the page and the woman in the mirror – why getting dressed might be the most underused tool in your transformation, and the science that proves what you wear is literally giving your brain instructions about who you are right now. The page is where she was hypothetical. The dress is where she becomes real. You don't have to think your way into her. You can dress your way into her. Here's what we cover: Why journaling, as beautiful as it is, can quietly become the thing keeping you stuck The Self-Image Cycle and its most underused entry point The Northwestern University study on enclothed cognition and what it means for your daily routine The little black dress that changed everything, and why it had nothing to do with the dress The difference between living from your desires versus living from your mood A micro-action to take this week that will bring her forward, no journaling required Did you enjoy this episode?
