What movie would you remake? How do you win Heads Up Seven Up? Who did you vote for? (Y'know what, scratch that last one. Too close to home.) We answer these questions and more as we hang our chads on Season 1, Episode 20 of Family Matters. Alex Diamond, David Kenny, and John McDaniel heard that the long-running network sitcom Family Matters ends with side character Steve Urkel going to space. And the best way to figure out how that happened - obviously - is to watch the last episode first and make our way backwards through nearly ten years of television.Join our countdown to number one (and our slow descent into madness) in all the places you expect internet people to be:Website: jumpingtheshuttle.spaceEmail: jumpingtheshuttle@gmail.comInstagram: @JumpingTheShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577Twitter: @JumpingShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577TikTok: @JumpingTheShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577Brought to you by Smooth My Balls
What goes bump in the night giving Mat and Chris a fright? This week it's another bonus episode as Kyle ditches the podcast for some Thanksgiving family time — The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) directed by Stephen Norrington. This action film based on a series of comics has literary heroes leap from the pages to team up and save the world. How many turkeys will Mat gobble down this year? Who are our favorite members of the League? Why does Chris get invited to the club outings? Don't look at your painting as the Boo Boys break it all down.

The guys finally tackle the notorious flop and the film that made Sean Connery quit acting - The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Joining the fellas is Nathan's Jason in the form of Ben Gillcrist, history buff at large. After Ben talks about his frustration with the historical inaccuracies, the guys also discuss Alan Moore's strategy at detaching himself from adaptations of his work, Mina Harker being reduced to a side character, Dorian Gray having old man qualities, the incredibly fake explosions and MUCH more. This week, the Pop Culture Historians get booksmart with 2003's THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN! Evan Tognotti joins the show to dig into 2002's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, an infamous big budget flop (or "disappointment," if you prefer Chris' classification) which had huge ramifications not just for the superhero genre and Hollywood icon Sean Connery's career, but for the Tognotti family's own personal fortunes.
Yes, that's right. Sean Connery's final film. He turned down Gandalf because he didn't understand the script (that's right, Sir Ian was a second stringer!) and presumably had the same reasoning for turning down the role of The Architect in The Matrix. And despite the steampunk dumpster fire this turned into, perhaps there is something poetic about his character's grave being the final shot of the film. But that's about as deep as this gets. - Extra Ordinary! - - The Acolyte is doing numbers, to the surprise of no one: https://deadline.com/2024/06/the-acolyte-premiere-viewership-disney-plus-1235961414 - Doctor Who continues its queer agenda, to the delight of everyone: https://nerdist.com/article/doctor-who-jonathan-groff-rogue-character-queer-romance-with-ncuti-gatwa-fifteenth-doctor - There's a Karl Lagerfeld bio series, at the request of no one: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/daniel-bruhl-becoming-karl-lagerfeld-disney-plus-seduction-1235915461 —- Research and references completed using Wikipedia, IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, and Box Office Mojo. ----- We are (out and) proud members of the Mischief Media Network! The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen marks the start of our anniversary series for this season. MONSTER PARTY WHIPS IT GOOD! JAMES GONIS, SHAWN SHERIDAN, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD, pay tribute to an iconic character whose adventures have spanned over 30 years. He's everyone's favorite whip-wielding archeologist, which kind of narrows it down. Cue exhilarating John Williams music as we present an episode that could only be titled... INDIANA JONES!!! From that first screening of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK back in 1981, we all were unexpectedly awed by the epic heroism of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. Sure, the following films and TV shows have been a mixed bag, but through better or worse, it's safe to say that Indy has always been a hero we've been rooting for. In this episode, we dissect the Indiana Jones phenomenon in detail. Is Raiders a truly perfect film? Is Temple of Doom too violent and just not Indy enough? Does Last Crusade have too many gags? Is Crystal Skull way too Shia LaBeoufy? Who was The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles actually intended for? Did Dial of Destiny redeem the series? What are the best Indiana Jones collectibles? And how do you explain to your in-laws why you have all those whips? Charging at us like a giant rolling ball of talent, information, and charisma, is a return guest and long time MONSTER PARTY benefactor. Was this young singer lady supposed to return in a later episode? Which Alan Moore movie adaptation is he most upset about? And which car company is getting free (outdated) advertising? We asked for it, we got it with Season 4, Episode 15 of Family Matters.Alex Diamond, David Kenny, and John McDaniel heard that the long-running network sitcom Family Matters ends with side character Steve Urkel going to space.

So when we heard a lot of the fans of the comics were annoyed by the depiction, we added it to our list. 2003 was very much like today in the sense that everybody was looking to adapt comic book properties into a huge movie franchise. So in continuing our Alan Moore-athon we're taking a look at The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, or LXG if you would. In Sean Connery's final live action role before retirement he leads a team of 19th Century super people as Alan Quartermaine. We've never liked it but maybe that's wrong. Doubtful though.
