As always, it's a great conversation. We wrap up the episode with new music from Rick Fines, Rube & Rake, Clare Follett, Carmanah, Hamish Napier, Aoife Scott, Terra Lightfoot and Dione Taylor. Singer-songwriter and humorist Steve Poltz is an absolutely fabulous live performer. There is just no two ways about it. See one show, you'll become a fan for life - and like everyone else, you'll be revelling in the power of being in the moment for a performance where anything can happen, and often does. Steve Poltz was born in Canada (Halifax NS) and raised in San Diego where he spent much of his life before he moved to Nashville in 2016. After a series of well-received albums, the release of “Shine On” in 2019 really started to move Steve’s career up to another level - and then COVID hit. As a touring artist, Steve works exceptionally hard and plays more than 150 dates a year across North America, Europe and Australia. To see all his 2020 plans evaporate almost overnight was disappointing to say the least. Steve joined us on Folk Roots Radio to chat about how he has been spending his time off the road during these strange Covid Times, including the release of a wonderful new lockdown single, appropriately entitled “Quarantine Blues”. Music: Steve Poltz “Quarantine Blues” (single) (2020, 98 Pounder Records / Compass Records), “Ballin’ On A Wednesday” from “Shine On” (2019, 98 Pounder Records / Red House Records) and Hey God I’ll Trade You Donald Trump For Leonard Cohen (single) (2017, 98 Pounder Records)

The new routine is, well, weird. We know. We're living it, too. What are the small, simple daily things that help? What are the good habits we're trying to cultivate during this time vs. what are the bad habits that we might want to try to break? Hand washing and social distancing - but what else? How did it affect people 100 years ago and how long will it affect us? We're tired of the "shoulds" that tell us to use this time to create a new business or write a book. Some days, it's all we can to get through the day. And yes, some days drinking may be an answer, but maybe it's really not. How do you find other ways to deal each day? Work through the feelings without guilt and identify if it's an unhealthy approach and attempt to numb out.Is it just "Quarantine Blues" or is it Depression? Let the "normal" expectations go. Each day is different and how we get through it is up to us. (https://www.upworthy.com/coronavirus-productivity-motivation-myths-dangers) Amy talks about the "cultural obsession with capitalistic productivity," and how it can affect our anxiety and currently triggers past traumas. Worry over control in our lives is surfacing everywhere. We're not alone in asking "how do I earn my keep when I can't work right now?"Life has kinda flipped the Monopoly board on us all right now, and that metaphor just feels so apt. Can we create families and encourage people to share their art and their lives no matter if they "earn their keep?"We are still in the middle of this pandemic and don't know how it will play out yet. One thing we hope is that more of a light will be shined on Mental Health and awareness. Heather references the studies from Vietnam regarding drug use and life changes. (Ref: Robins Study, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27650054 ) Take a step, a small step, a baby step, to break an old habit or hold on to a good habit or healthy routine. The waves or fear can be overwhelming, so please, find a moment to remind yourself that you are okay. It may not be perfect. But you are okay. We are okay, just for a moment. We know we can't solve the problems but we can acknowledge the feelings and look for hope. We discuss dealing with our Shadow Work during this time as well. (Ref: Feeding Your Demons - https://bookshop.org/books/feeding-your-demons-ancient-wisdom-for-resolving-inner-conflict/9780316013130) It's hard enough, but now we need to visit with our Shadows to be able to handle each day. Notice our reactions of rage or fear and ask the feeling what is really going on in this moment. Check in and see how you're doing, each day. Find the things that do help. Reach out to friends, set up a healthier routine, and give yourself grace.

Being quarantined with the Professor has it's ups and downs but mostly just ups. Out of boredom and the need to echo our thoughts into a microphone, we offer up the Quarantine Blues. These thoughts were completely improvised and without a script, notes, cheat sheet, or outline summarizing where we would go...we simply put our faith in Sammy Bhoy as he began the monumental task of his confrontation with Satan. 'Praise Jesus' he declares and we feel the spirit of the lord in the basket of our bellies. We continue to support social distancing because of how close it has made the world. So enjoy this bonus release.....a completely improvised effort poking fun at some original characters and a few not so original characters. Smile and keep your distance!

I know… It's been a while. But since my office is closed and I'm self-quarantined at home, I figured this was a good time to catch up. In this episode, I share a little update on life and work in New York City since I moved back in January. New apartment, new job, new beginning… there was a lot going on - all good - until the pandemic changed all of our lives very quickly. Though I'm no stranger to working from home, I'm feeling very different about the current situation. The trick is to fight the blues and keep moving forward under these insane circumstances that seemed almost impossible only a few short weeks ago. As I say in the episode, I want everyone to be safe, stay home, wash your hands, practice social distancing and keep calm. And also… be kind. To yourself and others. This is a tough time for everyone. Perhaps a time to reset. But in the process, remember to be kind. Thanks for listening. George

Welcome to the No Business Coronavirus.. Special Edition.. Extravaganza.. or something like that! The boys are stuck inside thanks to the virus and their response was to try and come up with their own homegrown cure for the quarantine blues. They'll be bringing listeners an episode a day for at least the next two weeks. Today, they share their thoughts about the state of the nation and what they've been doing to pass the time. This leads them to one of their most memorable stories from high school: a men's pageant that Zach was reluctant to compete in until he took the stage and stole the show. **WARNING: EXTREME CRINGE INCOMING!**
