In today's episode, I discuss a particular pattern in the nervous system called global high activation. In this state, one can experience a sense of exhaustion or chronic overwhelm from being physiologically in a constant state of high activation whilst that activation is being suppressed by a dorsal vagal shutdown. This is like driving a car with the foot on the gas and the brake at the same time. I have discussed this pattern in different podcast episodes, such as: Ep 151: Addiction to falling in love Enjoy the show! In today's episode, I dive into how we can possibly learn to make contact with and support ourselves through recurring bouts of pain in a way that honor's the body's subjective experience. In today's episode, I discuss why this show isn't built upon foundations or intentions of fixing your problems. "Okay then, Danielle, then what is the show about?" I go into this a bit more deeply in the episode, and I use the James Hillman quote, "Evidently, a genuine solution must have the capacity to stabilize. It must sustain a condition, not merely dissolve it," to give flavor and context to my intentions behind the episodes! Enjoy the show! In today's episode, I discuss the immensity of grief that can accompany a transition out of dissociative life into a reality of complexity and relatedness. I believe grief reflects and 'makes real' our thresholds. When clients move from living their whole lives in a dissociative reality, disconnected from the here and now and the relational experience, returning to life can bring with it an immense amount of grief. "At the point the patient begins to abandon the instant and absolute 'truth' of dissociative reality in favor of internal conflict and human relatedness, the patient discovers that there is no path without pain." -Phil Bromberg Paul Russell also states, "We have to presume that the pain accompanying this grief is extreme, among the most painful of life's experiences." In today's episode, I discuss the process of embodying elements of divinity within the human vessel (aka the body). The paradoxical thing about incarnation is that I feel like the incarnation of spirit into the body is almost always traumatic. This is because we are dealing with immense mysterious forces. With this, I discuss the limitations and struggles we face when we are destined to attempt the incarnation of spirit in matter. Hi all. Danielle here. Wow...It has been a BUSY month with A LOT of things going on (aka travel, sickness, conferences, etc)...all of which kept me from getting behind the mic and getting new episodes out to you. But today I am back with a unique episode for you. Today I am sharing with you an interview hosted by Jennifer McMaster and Shannon Gale with the goal of exploring who I am, the intricacies of my particular path and what led me towards Somatic Experiencing and Jungian approach towards my current practice. I hope you all enjoy the show and look forward to sharing more content with you all going into 2023. Enjoy!

In today's episode I discuss navigating the somatic experience of resentment. I present the idea that perhaps resentment is the digestible form of thwarted fight responses that had be be split off during experiences of trauma or abuse. In today's episode, I answer a question posed about episode 154: Dismemberment and Remembering of the Masculine. In that episode, I read the Grimm's fairy tale The Handless Maiden, also known as The Woman Without Hands. Someone asked the question, "what exactly do we do in the 7 years of being in the forest while growing back our hands?" In this episode I use the text The Feminine in Fairytales by Marie- Louise von Franz to aid in my answering of that question. I discuss the implications of psychological introversion, confrontation with genuine loneliness, and stepping away from the projected roles that have been placed upon us by culture. In the forest, one is reclaiming a sense of spontaneity and trust in the self-regulating process of the psyche and 're-membering' themselves in the process; especially concerning the new potentials of the creative masculine energy within. Again, here is a text version of the fairy tale: https://sites.pitt.edu/~dash/grimm031.html Here is a lecture on the fairytale by Jungian scholar Dr. Raina Manuel-Paris: https://youtu.be/7VKEiNXRuGw To find more information about the upcoming Book Club on The Soul's Code, head here: https://www.drdaniellemcginnis.com/souls-code-book-club To find more information on my upcoming Mother Archetype Workshop Series, head here: https://www.drdaniellemcginnis.com/mother-archetype-workshop-series Enjoy the show! In today's episode, my fiancé Rick Alexander and I discuss the influence that porn has on us individually and collectively. We discuss the relationship, or lack thereof, to the feminine, the shadow, and to darkness. We talk about shame and its influence within this pattern. In today's episode, I read the Grimm's fairy tale The Handless Maiden, also known as The Woman Without Hands. I discuss the implications of psychological dismemberment and the process of remembering, especially concerning the new potentials of the creative masculine energy within. This is a story about dismemberment as a result of the old masculine principle making deals with the devil. Yet that comes at a great cost; a father must chop the hands off of his daughter. This dismemberment catalyzes her painful, but beautiful journey of transformation. In this episode, I discuss how my fiancé was able to provide me with "silver hands" during a period of deep dismemberment in my life. I also discuss the process of pulling back those projections and learning to regrow a genuine connection to the inner masculine so that our own hands may grow back. Here is a text version of the fairy tale: https://sites.pitt.edu/~dash/grimm031.html As promised, here is a lecture on the fairytale by Jungian scholar Dr. Raina Manuel-Paris: https://youtu.be/7VKEiNXRuGw Enjoy the show! In today's episode, I discuss what happens when an experience of trauma dysregulates the internal wiring and high voltage energy floods the system physiologically. In today's podcast I discuss the relational dilemma of modernity: everyone seems to be wanting a hit of the "highs" that one can feel when falling in love. This is an archetypal experience, meaning it is in the realm of the gods. We can become disappointed when our partners do not live up to those divine projections. But of course they couldn't, because they are mere mortals, with flaws and mess included. In this episode I discuss the nervous system pattern of addiction to this state of relationship and map that onto the archetypal realm of love and suffering implied in the human condition. In today's episode I discuss boundaries, and not the type of boundaries we usually talk or hear about. Boundaries describe the relationship between self and Other. Well, what if trauma has interrupted the development of your sense of self? Can you actually set boundaries with another person if you don't have a clear sense of self? I talk about boundaries around your sense of self including our physiological self protective responses. I discuss what can happen when these are thwarted (defensive self protection and/or enmeshment with the outer Other and identification with the inner Other). I discuss the importance in developing these in order to develop an adequate mirror of reflection for your process. Enjoy the show! In today's episode I discuss what happens when we go into an inner process and solely expect to "feel better" in that process. We start to lose perspective and start denying the value in moments of contraction and creating a capacity for conscious suffering. We may be prioritizing an approach that promotes pleasure seeking (or an escape out of survival physiology) rather than a move towards completeness which is inclusive of the negative aspects of the process. You can have a process that moves towards completeness AND moves out of survival physiology, but that takes time and patience for the process. Contemplation: what are your expectations on your process of inner work? Enjoy the show! Be sure to rate, review, and share the show with those who you feel like would enjoy the show! In today's episode, after two years of engagement, I share my personal experience of getting engaged to my fiancé. Rather than being overwhelmed with joy and happiness, I found myself experiencing immense fear of who I would become in the relationship as well as a loss of who I had been. In today's episode I discuss the horizontal and vertical aspect of the way the sensation of anger moves. Often anger gets stuck in the horizontal; leaving us stuck in cycles of projection and blame and/or internalization, self sabotage, or self hatred. In today's podcast I talk about the process of moving from dissociation/disconnection to discrimination. Typically, before consciousness can meet those parts during trauma renegotiation, they remain disconnected from the totality of who we are. When the dissociated parts begin to re-associate, we now have more energy available to work towards discriminating the different sensations, images, etc in the psyche that contribute to a greater sense of self. Moving from dissociation to discrimination takes a creative approach to trauma healing, yet can offer forward a beautiful window into the possibilities within the renegotiation of the unconscious. In today's episode I discuss an essay I wrote on Jung's theory of synchronicity, the experience of meaningful coincidence where the inner subjective experience of a person collides with an outer objective experience. I discuss how synchronicities can unlock stuck places in the trauma renegotiation process and make us feel as if we are held in the arms of something greater than ourselves. Enjoy the show! In today's episode I discuss the contrast between discipline and willpower. Willpower involves human will to me, remains quite personal. Discipline on the other hand, coming from the roots of disciple, connect us with devotion; devotion to something greater than yourself. That something is what I imagine to be soul, but I will leave you to decide what that is for you! Enjoy the show! In today's episode I amplify the importance of engaging with our higher activation states in the body in order to allow the body to remember its self regulating capacity that is often fragmented during traumatic experience. Although down regulating the nervous can be incredibly helpful in moment of intense stress, when chronically used, it may mean we are working against the physiology of what the traumatized state is communicating. I discuss the importance of taking the time and space to get to the root of the nervous system high activation state so we aren't always reliant on parasympathetic strategies to get through our day. In today's episode I discuss the difference between an "event" of something as opposed to an "experience" of something. For example, what is an "event" of depression vs. an "experience of depression. I amplify the qualitative nature of experience and how we can deepen into the feeling tone of how this event is moving in and through us.
