In this episode of "The Pulling Curls Podcast: Pregnancy & Parenting Untangled," Hilary Erickson | The Pregnancy Nurse® is joined by Erin Galloway from She Might to discuss the complexities of unplanned and unexpected pregnancies. Together, they unpack the wide range of emotions—from shock and grief to adjusting expectations and seeking support. The conversation highlights how common these experiences are, the importance of giving yourself grace, and why finding community, such as She Might, can make a real difference during uncertain times. Big thanks to our sponsor The Online Prenatal Class for Couples -- if you're looking for support & helping your partner support you too -- it's the class for you! Today's guest is Erin Galloway. Erin is a licensed master social worker and certified perinatal mental health professional dedicated to empowering women, supporting families, and connecting people with resources and community. Erin is the CEO of She Might, the online resource and community for women walking through unexpected motherhood. Erin is a mom of two, a Phoenix Suns fan, Americano enthusiast, and podcast lover. Many misconceptions exist about unplanned pregnancies, such as the belief they mostly happen to teenagers or people in crisis, when in reality, they affect people from all walks of life. Feeling conflicted, numb, overwhelmed, or not immediately excited about a pregnancy is normal—even among those who tried to conceive or are experienced in pregnancy and childbirth. Unplanned pregnancies can trigger complex emotions, including grief for one's previous lifestyle, personal identity, and future plans that are suddenly shifted or delayed. The reactions of partners, family, and friends to the news of an unexpected pregnancy can be surprising or disappointing, often because they, too, are processing shock or need time to adjust. Grief around unexpected pregnancy is valid—people may experience ambiguous or disenfranchised grief, mourning the loss of their former freedoms or the plans they thought they'd have. There is a wide spectrum of feelings experienced throughout pregnancy and postpartum, no matter how the pregnancy happened; bonding with the baby and feelings about motherhood develop differently for everyone. Support groups, mental health professionals, and online communities like She Might provide essential resources and a sense of belonging for those navigating unexpected pregnancies. Social media tends to showcase only the positive or "picture-perfect" aspects of pregnancy and motherhood, but tough emotions and struggles are far more common than people might share publicly. Recognizing and celebrating small wins, seeking help, and finding ways to bring pieces of pre-pregnancy joy into new routines can help parents cope and adapt through the journey of an unplanned pregnancy. How often do we sit back and notice the farming family? Doug Rebout and his wife, Christine, have made their life farming with his family just outside of Janesville. Rebout says he loves talking about his family farm and how he works side by side with his brothers. That's allowed him to enjoy some very special moments with his daughter, Natalia. Doug and Christine traveled to Ukraine to adopt Natalia when she was just 2 years old. They were aware that she came with physical and mental challenges that they - and their families - would have to deal with. Rebout says it's easy to talk about family farms and how special they are, but there is more to “family” than we may initially think about. Rebout says when Natalia was little, family flocked to assist in her care, but as she grew older - those resources became a little depleted. He says that between her physical needs and mental issues, Natalia's care became more complex. With fewer resources available in rural communities, many turn to their families for extra help. He says he was very blessed that people were there, but reminds anyone facing this kind of personal challenge, to keep reaching out and sharing. Doug and his wife found some solace in a dance group that Natalia became involved with. It wasn't just about watching their daughter perform with others, it was about sharing stories and getting advice from the other parents in the group on what they were dealing with, and how they were managing. Rebout's message to other families facing these kind of personal challenges - just keep sharing. Keep talking, keep looking for people and resources that can help you manage through the unique situation you're living in. Ever fantasized about quitting everything and disappearing for a month? That urge to escape might be more than burnout. In this episode, we'll unpack the hidden overlap between ADHD, anxiety, and depression—especially in high-achieving women who have spent their lives masking, people-pleasing, and pushing through. I'll share my own story of “smiling depression” as a successful actuary, when everything looked fine on the outside but felt overwhelming inside. You'll hear about the subtle ways depression and anxiety can show up when ADHD goes unrecognized—like emotional numbness, chronic tiredness, inner self-criticism, and rage reactions to small things. If you've ever wondered why you're so exhausted all the time or felt like you're barely holding it together even though you're “doing well,” this episode will help you name what's going on and explore next steps with more self-compassion and clarity. In this episode, you'll learn: Why ADHD in women often hides behind achievement How anxiety and depression may be secondary symptoms of ADHD What “smiling depression” looks like in high-functioning professionals How to spot the difference between normal exhaustion and something deeper Where to start if you think ADHD might be part of your story ✨ Resources Mentioned: How to ADHD by Jessica McCabe Women with Attention Deficit Disorder by Sari Solden The Upward Spiral by Alex Korb Extra Focus by Jesse J. Lee Morris' life story is a raw and powerful journey from bank robbery and brutal prison time to redemption. Growing up in Duchess County, New York, Lee's childhood was shaken by his parents' divorce, leading him down a troubled path. After moving to Florida as a teenager, he fell in with the wrong crowd, began robbing houses, and eventually escalated to robbing a bank — a decision that landed him four years in one of Florida's toughest youthful offender prisons. As summer draws to a close and families prepare for a new school year, it's a fitting time to reflect on what it means to truly be a family—both at home and within the church. The most meaningful moments in life aren't about the places we visit or the events we attend, but about being with the people we love, even when we realize our families are far from perfect. In the same way, the church is not a building or a flawless gathering, but a family of imperfect people bound together by God's grace and love.Paul's letter to the Thessalonians gives us a powerful image of the church as a family. He reminds us that, just as in our own families, there will be disagreements, disappointments, and moments when we get on each other's nerves. Yet, healthy families don't walk away when things get tough—they lean in, work through issues, and remain faithful to one another. Paul's approach to the Thessalonian church was not one of authority or superiority, but of gentleness, honesty, and deep affection. He describes his ministry among them using three family roles: a child, a mother, and a father.First, Paul came among them with the humility and honesty of a child—no pretenses, no masks, just realness. He didn't pretend to be perfect or to have it all together, and he encourages us to do the same. In a world obsessed with image and perfection, the church should be a place where we can be authentic, where we don't have to Photoshop our lives or hide our struggles. While not everyone needs to know everything about us, someone should know something. We all need a few trusted people with whom we can be transparent, share our burdens, and find healing.Second, Paul likens his care for the church to that of a loving mother—nurturing, sacrificial, and deeply invested. He didn't just share the gospel; he shared his very life. This kind of love costs time, energy, and effort, but it's what makes a church family healthy. We're called to look out for one another, to notice when someone is missing or struggling, and to offer encouragement and support. While it's impossible for everyone to look out for everyone, it is possible for everyone to look out for someone. Finally, Paul describes his role as that of a present father—guiding, encouraging, and sometimes correcting, but always coming alongside rather than standing above. True spiritual fatherhood is relational, not just instructional. It's about walking with others, sharing wisdom from our own experiences, and helping each other grow in Christ. The invitation is clear: be real, be nurturing, and be present. The church is a family, and each of us has a part to play in making it a place of grace, honesty, and love.Youtube Chapters[00:00] - Welcome[01:00] - Family Vacation Stories and Imperfection[04:48] - Road Trip Lessons: Family Isn't Perfect[07:32] - Church as God's Family: Not a Building[09:12] - Healthy Families Lean In[11:33] - Paul's Ministry in Thessalonica[13:32] - The Power of Church Family Connections[15:12] - Paul's Motives and Boldness[17:45] - Childlike Gentleness and Honesty[20:34] - Be Real: No Pretending in God's Family[26:52] - Authenticity and Vulnerability[32:07] - Sharing Struggles and Finding Support[36:16] - Nurturing Like a Mother[41:56] - Looking Out for Someone[44:47] - Everyone's Calling to Care[46:43] - Present Fatherhood: Encouragement and Correction[48:08] - Walking Alongside Each Other[53:55] - Lessons in Guidance and Growth[59:06] - Responding to God's Call Today

When you're just starting out, how do you find the support you need as a new cruiser? Well, I have a few ideas for you. There are great ways to build your support network--both practical and emotional--while cruising. Summary One of the biggest things that makes living aboard and cruising easier—by far—is having a support network. And I'm not just talking about having friends and family who don't think you're totally nuts, although that definitely helps. Support comes in many forms. The trick is knowing where to find it—and not being afraid to tap into it. Start off online. I've met so many people who are generous with their time, knowledge, and experience. You'll also find user and special-interest groups of all kinds. But don't just get lost on the internet. Lift your head and look around you. Say hello to the crew aboard the same vessel as yours. Shout-out at the local cruiser's net for people in similar situations--homeschooling parents, pet people, snorkelers, singlehanders, whatever. Having a network of folks to talk to about both practical and emotional concerns can make cruising so much easier. Of course, we encourage anyone listening to this podcast to think of The Boat Galley as part of your helpful network. Send a quick email with questions when you read our newsletter. We, like many cruisers, are happy to help. Finding support systems in college can be critical to your success! Wes Woodson is a nationally recognized youth mental health speaker, author, and founder of The Wes Woodson Company—a creative education and media company on a mission to help schools and universities activate self-belief in their students. With a focus on emotional safety, student leadership, and self-worth, Wes partners with institutions to deliver impactful keynotes, orientation experiences, and leadership trainings that equip young people with the emotional tools they need to succeed—both in and out of the classroom. At the heart of Wes's work is a simple, powerful idea: Students can't thrive if they don't feel safe to be themselves. Through a combination of storytelling, psychology, and practical strategies, Wes helps educators and administrators create emotionally supportive environments where students are seen, heard, and empowered to believe in themselves. In episode 591 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we find out what it was like for Wes growing up when he felt like he didn't fit in, why he chose Babson College, what led him to become a mental health advocate and youth speaker, what emotional safety means to him, what are some steps to manage anxiety and stress in college, how he is able to redefine strength for men, how we can overcome the stigma around getting help, how to build authentic friendships and find their support system in college, and how students can embrace their imperfections and still feel like they belong. This episode is a replay of a previous episode of Dance Dad with John Corella. Enjoy! Happy Pride! “I loved how free I was,” reflects Ally Marc Jacobs, a transgender teen and emerging star in the worlds of voguing and drag. Inspired by the House of Juicy Couture's performances and the House of Balmain on the HBO series “Legendary”, Ally began vogue dancing and quickly became a sensation across social media. She is now a member of both the House of Juicy Couture and House of Marc Jacobs. Today on the Dance Dad podcast, Ally shares insights into the ball culture, her personal journey of coming out, and how both her mainstream and kiki house communities have become like a second family to her. Ally's biological family, including her mother Amy, who also joins the podcast, has supported her from the start. Amy discusses the pressures facing Ally as a prominent figure in the trans community, and the scrutiny she faces as a parent. Ally addresses her experiences with bullies in various settings, from playgrounds to churches and even political arenas, and how she has found a supportive community. Host John Corella highlights the hypocrisy of parents who criticize Amy for 'forcing a lifestyle' on Ally, while they themselves push their children into unwanted activities. Ally, confident in her identity from a young age, and perhaps even in past lives, is forging ahead fearlessly. In this episode of The Purpose Show, I'm sitting down with Amanda Clark for a powerful and honest conversation all about boundaries—especially in personal relationships and marriage. We're diving into what it really looks like to move from people-pleasing to honoring your needs, and how doing this work can totally shift the dynamic in your home and relationships. Amanda shares her journey of healing her inner child, regulating her nervous system, and breaking free from old patterns to create stronger, healthier boundaries. We also explore the complexities of family dynamics, motherhood, and those challenging "witching hour" moments we all know too well. If you've ever struggled to communicate your needs or felt stuck balancing it all, this episode will leave you feeling seen, supported, and empowered to take back your time, energy, and joy—starting today. My links here:https://alliecasazza.com/tpslinks https://alliecasazza.com/collective Amanda went from a teen mom who lost herself in motherhood to a woman who reclaimed her identity, broke free from the emotional chains of childhood, and built a life she's excited to wake up to. For years, she wore taking care of everyone else like a badge of honor, drowning in overwhelm and shoulding all over herself. She believed sacrificing yourself as a mom was just the way life was—until she discovered a better way. Breathwork found her during her dad's passing, and everything shifted. She realized mindset work alone wasn't enough—she had to heal her nervous system, set real boundaries, and release the emotional weight keeping her stuck. Now, as The Boundary Queen, she helps moms regulate their nervous systems through breathwork and set boundaries like a boss— so you can stop living for everyone else and find YOU again. https://www.instagram.com/its.amandaclark https://www.amandaclark.biz/ Chapters 00:00 Introduction and Emotional Breakthroughs 03:10 The Importance of Boundaries 05:57 Navigating Marriage and Boundaries 09:06 The Role of Inner Child Work 11:47 Communicating Boundaries Effectively 15:07 The Impact of Setting Boundaries 17:59 Transforming Relationships Through Boundaries 20:36 Understanding the Witching Hour 22:12 The Importance of Communication in Relationships 24:57 Redefining Masculine and Feminine Roles 29:00 Addressing Unhelpful Partners 35:05 Finding Support and Setting Boundaries
