Jinn are spirits created from fire that are part of Arabic and Islamic folklore. A full discussion of the Jinn would take many episodes, so in this podcast I discuss what Jinn are and what is known about their origins, their place in Islamic cosmogony, and the different types of Jinn, particularly the Ghula and Si'lat, who often appear in feminine form to seduce men. Jinn have free will and be considered good or evil; thus these female Jinn may fall in love with a man and marry him, or may lure him to his death and cannibalize him. I will compare these Jinn to similar creatures in other cultures, and explain how they manifest the negative character of the Mother Archetype.

Earlier this month I turned 34 and with it I felt the transition into a new chapter and a new energy in my life. I don't always feel this on birthdays. In fact the last birthday I think I felt such a gear shift was turning 27, the start of our Saturn Return. For this this birthday was an initiation from The Maiden into The Mother archetype, leaving behind a 9 year cycle of more playful experimentation and coming into grounded stability and depth within my work, my partnership, my relationships, my presence and my life in general. It inspired me to share some reflections and it felt even more apt and synchronistic that this is Episode 34.In this episode: - natural feminine archetypal transitions from maiden, to mother, to crone - life occurrences which might catapult us into a different archetypal energy, such as becoming mothers ourselves or losing a parent but also how to harness and embody these transitions for ourselves - the mother wound we are experiencing with our collective disconnection from the divine and sacred feminine - the significance of re-parenting ourselves and attending to the unmet needs of our past to heal our inner child - the invitation to practise radical self-care through re-mothering ourselves in the same way we might choose to care for our own children or those we love most I would love to hear your insights and takeaways from this episode. In our mainstream culture, at least in the States, mothers have spent perhaps hundreds of years deprioritizing ourselves and our own spiritual, mental, and physical health in favor of everyone around us. I think of my own blessed mother and how much she unintentionally martyred herself in order to please the ones she cared for. And how her mother did the same. And probably her mother before that. And so it goes, generations and generations back. In some ways, we can see the beauty of that. It's part of what it means to embody a Mother Archetype - to love and nurture and lift up the ones we love the most. And favoring others over ourselves also has some potentially pretty devastating consequences at the individual, family, and community levels. Many of us have lost sight of boundaries, of the energetics of harmony and how to create it, and of true self-responsiblity for our own health and self-care. Today's guest is Dr. Christy Matusiak, a holistically-driven chiropractic physician. She has spent over the last decade helping patients overcome autoimmune conditions, pain, and chronic illnesses. She uses many systems to identify the root cause and support all areas of health (physical, nutritional, emotional, and energetic). As a holistic doctor, and mom to three boys, Dr. Christy used her personal and professional perspectives to author the book “Coordinating the Chaos – Through Birth and Burnout.” Dr. Christy and I talk about the art of surrender, the importance of personalized self-care routines, the new paradigm of medical care, and how we can alchemize the chaos of motherhood into absolute beauty. Dr. Christy is a refreshing voice, reminding us to fill our own cups first. Listen in, my beautiful and busy mamas... On the Secret Witch Show today our guest is Sian Marie Pilkington. Sian is a woman of word~craft, mother of what some see as many, a space holder in ceremony around the blood mysteries, a proficient retreat facilitator and herbalist and full spectrum birth attendant and energy worker. She works as a birth doula and mentor, reiki master, theta healer, holds pregnancy retreats & conducts ceremony for those in the child bearing years. Making her second appearance on the show, Sian beautifully explores birth as a powerful portal for soul transfomation, exploring how Birth opens us up to a descent into our Feminine soul, and how this creates a deeper connection to truth, love, and our own power and magic. She provides some beautiful initiations for the journey from Maiden to Mother, which make an illuminating episode that is relevant to all women, who long to reconnect to their souls - regardless of whether they are Mothers or not. What You'll Learn from this Episode: Birth is a powerful descent into the sacred land of your own body, which initiates you into trusting yourself, your power and your body - it's an initiation into leading ourselves to the underworld and back up Men have made rules and regulations around something that was always women's work, and this can create trauma, but it also doesn't mean we are victims to the Masculine - there's a beautiful union that can be created as we welcome Kingly Protective Warriors into the birth space to hold and witness - which is a transformational healing in and of itself It is important to do the work in pregnancy - the work is never in birth - so that you can be relaxed and open as you transition through birth. You can do the work through methods like a time-spiral, which she explains in this episode, and ritual and ceremony that consciously initiates you into the phases of the Feminine, as well as connecting to your baby We fear being the hysterical women, which has us suppress our beautiful wildness in birth - we suppress our sacred rage - we think we have to play the role of Good Girl. Moving through our truthful emotions without disruption is really helpful - and inner child work is powerful here Positive birth experiences aren't fluke - we are build to open, yield and give birth - and it can be helpful to have a birth story listener if you've had a traumatic experience instead The Mother Archetype is a powerful one to embody for all women - she is rooted to the earth and knows how to respond rather than react, and she's the one who births all of creation into the world, so working with her is deeply powerful and magical, especially for a Witch Our triggers are the place we can reclaim gold from our wound, but often we dismiss them due to shame; it is important we open to sharing our triggers Resources and things that we spoke about: Sian's Instagram: @mother.becoming Enchantress Well Instagram: @theenchantresswell Join Our Secret Witch Circle Sisterhood Register Interest for Invoke your Wild Witch: https://www.nicolebarton.co.uk/programs Thank you for listening, we'd love to know what comes alive for you in this week's episode, so please let us know! Listen to Episode 120: In today's episode I share my journey with The Divine Mother and Awakening to The Rosary I never even imagined that my own mother's devotion to Mother Mary would have such a deep impact on my own spiritual path. I never fathomed that the Divine Mother in all her forms and goddess energies would come calling for me. When I first received Mary Magdalene in 2014 through a vision (whilst pregnant) I had no idea what would be activated in me. A deep and reverent love for the DIVINE MOTHER. Goddess from all time, space and dimensions. For the Divine Feminine Presence that is the life-force of all. I couldn't imagine how it would deepen my love for Gaia, for this earth and her people. I had no idea the depth of aliveness and grounding I would feel by walking this spiritual path into the Cosmic Womb to be held once again by the Mother. I couldn't forsee how this would shape my own mothering and my relationship to the Mother Archetype in all areas of life - (and of course a deeper understanding of how we as a modern society have shut down, suppressed, disconnected and closed off from the ‘Mother' in everything from the way we eat, to how we live, commune, connect, work, relate…) If I cycle back many years, watching my mother pray the Rosary (which I now do too, in Aramaic and not as a religious practice but a deeply spiritual path, spiralling back to the centre of my heart and the centre of HER heart) and meditating each day I couldn't imagine the seeds she planted. I wouldn't have wanted to know… it was all too religious and dogmatic for me. And yet here I am, in a deep love affair with ritual, ceremony, spirituality and all the ways I can weave my world back into the arms of The Divine Mother… This is equally the most celestial, cosmic journey AND earthly, grounding, human unfolding I have ever experienced. It fills with me joy and grief, with light and shadow, with peace and chaos… with passion, purpose and pain. And I wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you for being here and listening. How has the Mother Wound shown up in your life and have you received the gift of this wound yet? For me I did not fully understand or feel the depth of the Mother Wound or what I also call the wound of Creation until I became a Mother almost two years ago which is right around the time my friend and this episode's guest, Tarah Green also became a Mother. Since then it has taken on so many meanings with so many layers of unraveling. From the bliss of I created you from my being to the despair of you created me and brought me to this Planet and all the feelings in between this is that deep and holy wound of incarnation which Tarah and I dive into without leaving anything off the table. Besides being an amazing Momma, Tarah is an intuitive Tarot & Palm reader, traveling nomad and lover of freedom. She adds so many key insights and brings the history of the Mother Wound on this planet to life. Today I share an idea around how to design currency more purposefully through the belief in abundance and community (a Great Mother) as opposed to greed and scarcity (a Great Father). I probably got some of this wrong, but I think the core ideas are quite impactful. In honor of Mother’s Day, we’re talking about being a mother — or not being a mother, but still mothering, nurturing others, ourselves, bringing projects to life — but always doing it our way, according to our own inner standards, with the audacity to unapologetically tell our version of the truth about it all.We touch on abortion, on rules surrounding motherhood, our own fantasies about motherhood, accessing the Mother Archetype, and living as more than just the roles that we play in our lives. Is sacrifice the only way to do motherhood? I boldly say, No way. How can we take ourselves into account as well? And, yes, in the original radio show I played “Crucify” by Tori Amos after this particular rant.Connect with Maia at MaiaWilde.comOrig. Aired on 5/14/2020

This episode is about the ways we embody the deeply divine feminine aspects of nourishment and creation. Have you ever wondered why you love to create beautiful things and share them with others? Or maybe why it lights you up so much to craft a beautiful meal and share it with people you love? Why is it so rewarding to bring people together and nourish them in an uplifting environment? These are all energies of the mother archetype that naturally can express through us, no matter how we identify in gender. The mother archetype is part of the creative force that we use to bring forth our most passionate and light filled creations into the world. These can be our work and our art, physical children, or ways we nourish others and use ourselves as a life giving force to serve others. Manifesting in its shadow aspect, the qualities of the mother archetype can lead us to burnout. They can lead us to over giving, blending our experience to create total enmeshment with others, and forgetting the sacred boundaries that honor our medicinal essence. Whether we are working with this energy consciously or subconsciously (or both!), we are still in the act of creator creating, and what and how we are creating is for us to examine and get clear on. Harnessing the brightest qualities of the mother archetype allows us to flourish, and encourages all life around us to flourish in kind. Join me this week for a solo jam to learn about the creative and nourishing essence of the mother archetypal energy, and let it be revealed to you where you walking in light with this energy, and where you might turn your attention to the realm of shadow to free this energy from entanglements that do not serve. So much love and blessings to you. To see the Mother as she is, in her darkness and light. That is the image of Hekate as Pammetor, The Great Mother Goddess. To know her warm embrace and her firm corrections when we veer from the path. To give us, as John Bowlby, wrote “a secure base from which to explore the world. ” For those of us who were denied this foundational sense of security, the journey can be untethered, as we wonder from one dysfunctional situation to another. The inherent problem, which Bowlby also describes, was that “what one cannot tell to the (m)other, one cannot tell to oneself.” Stretching back across the centuries, we see that others venerated Hekate as The Great Mother. In the earliest reports, such as Hesiod’s Theogony, Hekate is portrayed as all powerful. This distinguishes The Great Mother from earth goddesses, which can be called “Elemental Mothers”, and The Great Mother who is source, soul, and cosmic. She is not Gaia, for example. The Great Mother, to the ancients, was life and death, blessing and bane. Nor is she merely a Goddess of Motherhood, although Hekate has always had a special interest in mothers and children. She was often described as Midwife in ancient texts. In historical sources, Hekate is often interwoven with goddesses, as we learned in the last lesson. These triplicities formulate a Great Mother Goddess by weaving together all aspects of The Mother Archetype. With Artemis and Selene, she becomes the Wise Crone, the experienced Mother, while they represent the earlier phases of The Mother’s Journey. Hekate is also linked to other forms of the Great Mother Goddess, for example her association with Cybele, whom the Romans venerated as Magna Mater (The Great Mother). Go deeper: Learn more about studying with me at keepingherkeys.com She is the darkness. She is the cry of "enough." She is the sigil written in stone. She is the silent walking away of the betrayed. She is the lonely raising arms to the moon. She is the lie told to live the truth. She is the secret circle drawing down her moon. She is the poison that heals. She is the bold stare into the future. She is the blood shed to bring rebirth. She is all those who dare to become. She is the power that is our right. She is The Dark Mother. She has returned. Lesson 4: Ancient Hekate's Many Roles - Keeping Her Keys: An Introduction to Hekate's Modern Witchcraft From the ancient sources, we know that Hekate was a liminal goddess, standing between worlds, particularly at the threshold of life and death. She was described in many diverse ways including Mother of All, Queen, Savior and World Soul. She was viewed as the torch-bearing guide for those on nightmarish Under World journeys. Not only was she viewed as the guide along the road, but also as the way itself. The variety of the titles bestowed upon her by the ancients often appears contradictory. We need to consider two things. One is that the ancient writers held vastly divergent views of Hekate. The other is that Hekate has always been a complex goddess with multiple roles and abilities. Many-named Goddess who brings glory to men, Whose children are fair, Bull-eyed One, Horned One, Nature. All-Mother, who brings forth both Gods and men You roam around Olympus, And traverse the wide and fathomless abyss. You are the Beginning and the End. And you alone are Mistress of All. - The Greek Magical Papyri IV 2785-2890. “We’re witnessing the end of a 5,000 year reign of patriarchy, and are coming into a society created by our technology that will be more balanced and more feminine. It’s already happening. And I think that the good news is that it’s coming just in time.” — Leonard Shlain

Moving from Maidenhood in to Motherhood is a journey that takes more time than many women realize. This is not a transition that happens of the short span of time during pregnancy or the event of birth but rather gradually occurs over months or years. A shift of this magnitude is jarring and can be destabilizing if preparation and work are not done ahead of time to ensure the woman is surrounded by love and support. In this episode, we investigate how moving from Maiden to Mother is both celebratory and mournful. Birth and death become the opposing lens through which we view reality. Our understanding of the world and our role within it has new meaning and dimension, much of which causes us to question what we learned in our Maiden years and look ahead with doubt, confusion, and anxiety. But there is much that can be done to help avoid or alleviate these stressors and possible outcomes! It requires us to take responsibility and cultivate a community or village that uplifts, inspires, and supports us… all of which is more than possible!
The Mother is a complex and dynamic being, full of abundant love, assurance, nurturing and strength. She approaches life with a new found sense of reverence and power that reminds us of the majesty that women are. Her existence in our world leads us to understand the many dimensions of love and what it can feel like when fully offered and received. The groundedness and comfort that we associate with the Mother brings to light the value of authority and safety in our world and how important it is that we honor the sacrifices made each day by our mother's in order for us to live and thrive. She is also a symbol of life lived in surrender while also taking responsibility for those aspects that can in fact be controlled. The Mother reminds us that if we are to fully evolve and grow, we must understand and show reverence for the women who came before us and paved the way for us to be who we are and fully loved at the same time, recognizing as well that this is what lays the foundation for a life well-lived: unconditional and everlasting love. She is steadfast and true, a women who doesn't need to be protected but should be. She is a Divine Creator and deserves much of the same respect and honor as thos gods we have created in our world. In this episode we dive deeper in to all of her elements and how we can make changes in our society to ensure her expressions are protected, provided for, and empowered.
Explore the role of the Mother in "Midnight's Daughter," a story about a woman whose belly swells until she gives birth to a child at night, but come morning, the girl disappears. The woman finds her belly round once more and labor pains come night after night, but all her efforts still leave her arms empty when the sun rises.
Two weeks before our epic annual trip to France and Hong Kong/China, my little one got rather sick. She had flu, chest infection and high fever, followed by an allergic reaction to her antibiotics. I didn’t have much sleep during those two weeks because of all the pre-trip work I’ve planned and her illness unplanned. Despite all the physical and emotional exhaustion (48+ hours road trip from our home in Sydney to our home in France), I felt there is tremendous strength in a mother’s heart. We rise as superwoman, pulling through all the hurdles in order to help our loved ones to get better and get through the challenges together as a family. The whole experience reminded me of an article I’ve written some time ago but didn’t release. It is about the “Mothers of the World”. As I’ve become a mother myself, I understand what “unconditional love” really means. When you watch your child suffer, there is no remedy for the mother’s worry or fear, but we find the strength we need to care for them. Unconditional love leads to immeasurable strength. If we harness this strength for our loved ones, and perhaps for the future generations to come, it will be a tremendously powerful force to reckon with. As I was writing the chapter of Demeter in my book Goddess with Many Faces, I felt called to expand on this archetype based on the current social climate and observations I have among women. Demeter in Greek mythology is the Goddess of Grains. She symbolizes fertility and earthly harvest. As an archetype, she represents women who have a natural inclination to nurture, to provide and to take care of others. She is the so-called Mother Archetype. In my research in myths and psychology, she is mostly described as the caretaker and nurturer, in which it is definitely a strong part of her character. However, as I become a mother myself, not only I sense the influence of Demeter grows on me as I experience the unconditional love I have for my daughter, I also become more responsive towards negative news in the media about other children in the world and the environment. As though my protective instinct for my child has expanded outwards into the world we live in. Just like how a lioness protects her cubs and their natural habitat, I see other Demeter and Artemis women speaking up and taking actions as the urgency grows with what is happening today with children of the world and the environment in which we live in. Demeter women are no longer just about making a hearty meal or looking after people individually, but it is about thinking collectively and acting on a greater scale. They become the mothers of the world. So often we see the tendency to buy into the fear of what is happening in the world. We get concerned about what is going to happen to our future generations with the rate of natural degradation, divided political views and amount of social unrest. So how do we turn on the light when the dark seems looming? Educate and Activate Inaction cultivates anxiety. Identifies what concerns you and affect you emotionally then learn more about the facts and situations related to your concerns. I remember reading about appeals for children in Syria and felt deeply saddened by how many of them are trapped in areas where medical aids are hard to deliver but bombing are frequent. It was part of my instinct to find out as much as I can about the situation and what can I do to help. I know every little individual effort count where so often we pause and get overwhelmed by the magnitude of the situation. What I’ve learned is that if we only marinate our minds with what triggers us but do nothing about it, our nervous system and emotional body will react negatively eventually. The abolition of slavery or women voting rights didn’t happen because the majority of people agree to change it. it is always a small group who started to say, this is not right and something got to change.

Sarah Durham Wilson is a writer and teacher who alchemizes her stories of becoming whole and real into lessons for her community. She spent her twenties as a hard living music journalist in New York City and at 31 had an awakening to the Goddess. She’s walked thousands of womxn through witch awakening and onto the priestess path, but has spent the last four years repairing the Ancient Path of the Maiden to Mother, a feminine initiation path from girlhood to womxnhood. Capri has been following along Sarahs richly insightful and artfully presented life lessons for the greater part of the last decade. Her work first appeared to her in the form of Do It Girl, an online persona that showcased much of her writing - which had a tendency to go viral especially amongst young maiden womxn, like herself. In more recent years, Capri’s awareness of her work was reactivated and on deeper level. Sarah was (the only person, that she could see) teaching about something so near and dear to her current evolution point, basically- the process of healthfully growing out of the more insecure, defensive, outward seeking maiden and into the self assured, inner-sourced “mother”. On a biological level Capri was going through a great transition of becoming an actual mother. But, the importance of Sarah’s work is understanding that this rite of passage (maiden to mother) is not limited to nor automatically activated through the biological change of becoming a mother. It’s the healing work of accepting our aging selves in new (and empowering) ways. It was an honor for Capri that she felt such an immediate “Yes” to want to be on Inner Source Alchemy podcast, and with excitement she share with you these important personal development themes (that can be applied at any age- never too early or too late) and possibly introduces you to some of Sarah Durham Wilson’s work, for the first time. Topic Highlights: Re-mothering Ourselves Initiation Through Obstacles The Heroines Journey Hearing the call to bring this unique work to the surface Archetypes: How can they help us? - Attempting to define the undefinable Reframing what it means for a woman to age/dismantling from the sick society we are in Fear of scaring others when we are in our power Esoteric and Exoteric How this all relates with living more fully in the Now The expectations placed on womxn to show up filtered (in all ways) www.SarahDurhamWilson.com Instagram: @themotherspirit Facebook: Do It Girl ~ Please support this podcasts wellbeing by: 1. After covering Jungian masculine archetypes in previous four episodes, today we are starting to explore feminine archetypes. Even though there is somewhat less literature and research on this topic, there are certain archetypes that are consistently described across the different systems. So in the second part of this series, we will explore the archetypes of The Mother, The Amazon, The Lover, The Witch, and The Queen. We begin with The Mother, the characteristics of her full expression and her shadow versions, as well as the examples from popular culture, that will help you better understand and recognize this archetype. In This Episode Of Future Thinkers: The biological foundations of motherhood that determine the qualities of The Mother archetype The Mother in its fullness as the expression of nurturing, empathy, and complete acceptance Professions that benefit from a strong presence of this archetype Manifestations of The Mothers' energy in children How anyone can use The Mother archetype to increase their wellbeing Helicopter Mother - the most common shadow version in today's society How the Mother archetype shows up in activism How to recognize when you are stepping into the shadow version of The Mother Mother as nature itself; that which gives and takes away life Examples of this archetype in mythology and popular culture Show notes: http://www.futurethinkers.org/77 Join the Future Thinkers Community on Discord: https://www.futurethinkers.org/discord This episode is sponsored by: http://www.futurethinkers.org/qualia Recommend a sponsor for Future Thinkers: http://www.futurethinkers.org/recommend Support us on Patreon: http://www.futurethinkers.org/support

Show notes: The first time I found Eating in the Light of the Moon (and how I had sooo much resistence to picking it up) "If you could think your way out of your eating disorder, you would have done it a long time ago." Why recovery is more of a labyrinth than a maze Recovery is not about finding your way in and out-- it's about reaching the center Using archetypes (by Carl Jung) to heal your disordered eating and relationship with your body How the Mother Archetype can provide for you the love that you crave within: for people who struggle with eating disorders, what they are really desiring is mothering The reason why people reach for food when they are deeply craving mothering is because food is comfort Ways you can get mothering energy outside of your mom The difference between belonging and fitting in The Masculine part of ourselves desires to check things off, get things done and do things the correct way The Feminine part of ourselves is the emotional, intuitive, relational side of ourselves Considering that our society prioritizes the Masculine energy, you can see how the Masculine body is also prioritized (hardness, six-pack, buns of steel) How we have been brainwashed into thinking that fat = bad (and the history behind it) When people feel bad as adults, they immediately latch onto thinking that the root of the pain is because of their body The story of the King and his dog-- and how it's a perfect metaphor for how we treat our own bodies every day The story of the letting go of a log when you are deep in water--- and how it's a metaphor for recovery Speaking your truth is not about getting exactly what it is that you want The link between feeling sexy/free in the bedroom and disordered eating How a women's Full Moon Circle is a brilliant way to feel your sexuality without incorporating sex Must-read book: Crones Don't Whine and Goddesses in Older Women Connect with Anita: FREE GIFT, The Food and Metaphor Guide: LightofTheMoonCafe.com/mbm Facebook Instagram Twitter Grab her book HERE Contact: Anita@LightoftheMoonCafe.com
