The prime suspect was her husband, famed actor Robert Blake. But Bonny, a longtime con artist, had plenty of enemies. She left behind a trail of men she'd scammed, and she had a volatile relationship with Christian Brando, the troubled son of movie star Marlon Brando. Not since the O.J. Simpson case had the eyes of the nation been so fixated on a homicide. The search for Bonny's killer took detectives on an eleven-month odyssey across the country and through Hollywood's underbelly of hustlers, drug addicts, and would-be hitmen. It would be the most expensive murder investigation in LAPD history to date. This is the story of Robert and Bonny's toxic relationship, her shocking murder, and his chaotic trial. Did actor Robert Blake kill his wife? Or was the murder someone else's vendetta? From Wondery, and the team behind the hit series Hollywood & Crime (The Dating Game Killer, The Wonderland Murders, Death of Starlet) comes a six-part series about love, obsession and fame gone wrong. Episode 111 Douglas 'Doug' McMillinOn March 8th, 2009, just a couple days shy of his 20th birthday, Douglas 'Doug' McMillin was shot dead by intruders in his Allouez, Wisconsin home. Doug was shot in front of friends and witnesses as he tried to resist the intruders. The killers fled into the night and years later, the case remains unsolved. The investigation was hampered early on due to witnesses not fully cooperating, and police had to consider that the motivation for the home invasion and murder, was due to drugs and money being kept in the home. Doug admittedly dealt drugs which may have put him in harm's way. But who Doug was as a person can't be simply boiled down to 'Drug-Dealer'. He was much more. He was a kind, well-liked person with an artistic side, and a view of the world that was perhaps beyond his years. He was the type of person that made an impression with his younger brother James describing him as a "super nova" that he looked up to.His cold blooded murder devastated his family, and for the better part of a decade, James, has felt guilt that perhaps he introduced the killers to Doug. James discusses that in this episode, as well as what he feels are shortcomings in the handling of Doug's caseIf you have any information about Doug McMillin's murder you are asked to call Sergeant Holschbach at 920-448-6187. He like other kids his age, was trying to find his way and fit in. He had dreams of starting a rock band. But when 2 of Michael's friends and classmates came to his home on November 10, 2009, Michael's life would be taken, and his dreams wiped out. Those two young men 16 year old Jae Williams, and 15 year old Randy Thompson attacked Michael in a pre-planned blitz, stabbing Michael and slashing his throat before fleeing the scene. Michael's uncle found him, but it was too late to save Michael. Police quickly zeroed in on the two killers and they were taken into custody. The investigation revealed that the pair had planned the murder for weeks, and it came to light that the 2 self described Satanists had even tortured and murdered animals. They showed little to no remorse and were sentenced to lengthy prison sentences after being found guilty of Michael's murder. Incredibly, a new law SB-1391 aimed at reducing the sentences of offenders under age 16, was enacted and it means that Randy Thompson may walk free at any time now, and that's a thought that has re-opened old wounds for Michael's family.Michael's aunt Kari discusses that law, Michael's murder, and his all too short life in this episode. Things were looking good for the young family, but in March of 2018, Evan abused Kym for the first time, and she was not going to let there be a second time. She fled their home, and took her young son to stay at her sister Chelsea's home in Nampa. But only days later, Evan showed up at the home and the unthinkable happened. Evan forced his way in and attacked Kym, her sister Chelsea, and their mom Julianna with a machete while 3 young children nearby. It was like something out of a horror movie and when the carnage was finally over, Kym was dead, and her mother and sister were seriously wounded. Evan Bashir was dead as well after being shot by police responding to the scene. In the aftermath, Kym's family was left to wonder why this all happened, and they asked themselves if they could have done anything to prevent this terrible act of domestic violence. In this episode. Chelsea and Julianna discuss the tragic events of that day, and their efforts to fight for the lives of everyone in the home that day. They also discuss their newest efforts to prevent domestic violence and help others escape Kym's fate.If you or someone you know is in danger due to domestic violence you can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800.799.SAFE (7233). You can also call RAINN (the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network)'s National Sexual Assault Hotline at 800.656.HOPE (4673).A message from Kym's Sister, Chelsea:Hello there!I apologize for the delay in getting this information to you! Hopefully I'm not too late! A little recap about our cause:We are a network of Family Oriented Resources for the Young, Old & Under-served. We help connect people to the community resources best suited to meet their specific needs. We work with resource providers through other organizations, businesses, and individuals who offer programs and services aligned with our mission to reduce violence, heal trauma and support people through major life transitions. KYMfest is a family festival that brings these resources to the people along with local businesses, influential speakers, kids activities and performing artists for a day of learning, connection and fun.#KindYourMind is our motto. An adaptation of Kym's name, "Kind Your Mind" reminds people to adopt kindness over violence, and have compassion and grace for everyone's healing process including your own. We promote a shift away from the judgement, blame and shame that often hinders people in seeking help and instead bringing mindfulness and love into the forefront of our way of being. After the murder of Kym, we realized the truth behind the saying, "hurt people hurt people" and decided to do what we can to break the stigmas around mental and emotional health. Evan felt hopeless, defeated and downright worthless to himself and others. He had a long history of being an outcast of his family, suffering childhood traumas, struggling with mental illness and addiction through his adult life, and his severe lack of ability to keep a job or make major life accomplishments. The stress of his new role as father to Kym's son was overwhelming. Without a network of support and community care behind him, and with the weight of his lifestyle and negative behaviors catching up to him, the stress finally broke him. He got violent, she got out. He decided he couldn't live without her. He took her out with him in a tragic suicide mission. The aftermath of this unexpected turn of events left our family reeling and overwhelmed. But one thing I knew was that people are being pushed every day to this breaking point due to a high amount of compounded stress and very little outlets. We hope to be an outlet and an avenue to a better life. Healing is not a one-size-fits-all process. For You Network aims to meet people where they are in their journey and bridge the gap between how they can access what resources are out there. We are here to help. The news was devastating for Brittany's family, and it would be years of ups and downs in the case before it looked like the case might be close to being solved. Police had DNA to work with, and it eventually led to a suspect. Unfortunately, things were not as cut and dry as they appeared, and that suspect had an acceptable alibi according to police. The news was a letdown for Brittany's mom Dr. Maggie Zingman, but that has not stopped her from being a champion and advocate for her only daughter. In this episode, she discusses the long, winding path she has been on following Brittany's murder. She also talks about her advocacy for other people going thru similar situations. Episode 83 Melissa NeaseOn February 28th, 2021, Twenty-Nine year-old Mother of three, Melissa Nease, was found dead from a gunshot inside her Ocklawaha, Florida home. Just 2 days earlier, her boyfriend and kids had gone to Tennessee to watch the snow fall. Melissa had recently started a job, and had to work so she could not go on the trip. It was a decision that proved to be deadly. Intruders entered her home on quiet and remote, Guava Pass Drive and perhaps were surprised that she was home. There may have been an altercation. Whatever the case, the killer or killers fled the home leaving Melissa to die alone. The main clue that investigators have to work with is surveillance video from an external camera. That camera captured at least one man fleeing the scene- tripping over a piece of patio furniture as he runs. Someone may recognize him. Police have identified two possible suspects, but no arrests have been made. Melissa's family is desperate for answers. Her sister Amy discusses the case in this episode and shares her fears that the case could go cold.
