In this episode of the Grow A Small Business Podcast host Troy Trewin interviews Thais Saenz, founder of Saenz Global, shares how she built a multiple seven-figure business by specializing in operations for roofing companies. She explains how her company helped a long-term client grow from $3 million to more than $80 million in annual sales. Thais discusses the importance of niching down, building lean teams, embracing technology, and creating systems that support sustainable growth. She also shares lessons on leadership, culture, hiring the right people, and recognizing when team members are no longer the right fit. Most importantly, Thais reveals how personal growth, continuous learning, and taking ownership of problems have been the biggest drivers of her business success. Why would you wait any longer to start living the lifestyle you signed up for? Balance your health, wealth, relationships and business growth. And focus your time and energy and make the most of this year. Let's get into it by clicking here. Troy delves into our guest's startup journey, their perception of success, industry reconsideration, and the pivotal stress point during business expansion. They discuss the joys of small business growth, vital entrepreneurial habits, and strategies for team building, encompassing wins, blunders, and invaluable advice. And a snapshot of the final five Grow A Small Business Questions: What do you think is the hardest thing in growing a small business? Thais Saenz shares that the hardest thing in growing a small business is yourself, explaining that entrepreneurs must move beyond a victim mentality, take ownership of problems, improve their communication, and ensure the right people are in the right roles. What's your favorite business book that has helped you the most? Thais Saenz says her favorite business book is *How to Win Friends and Influence People* by Dale Carnegie. She describes it as her "original gangster" business book, sharing that she has listened to it repeatedly from her early twenties through her late thirties because its lessons on relationships, communication, and influence remain highly relevant and practical today. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? Thais Saenz recommends podcasts as a valuable resource for small business growth, particularly *How I Built This* from NPR, which helped her while building her business by showing her that even successful entrepreneurs face challenges and problems. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? Thais Saenz recommends having strong systems in place to grow a small business, particularly using ClickUp to create transparency and keep the team organized. She also advises hiring an expert to properly set up the system if needed, sharing that she wishes she had implemented it much earlier in her business. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? Thais Saenz advises her day-one self to focus more on profit rather than trying to make everyone feel blessed and taken care of. She says she would have built a leaner business, been more disciplined with raises and expenses, and prioritized taking home profit instead of working extremely hard without paying herself. Subsumption in Kant, Hegel and Marx: From the Critique of Reason to the Critique of Society is the latest book from Dr Andres Saenz De Sicilia, an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Northeastern University London. Andres' excellent title, published with Brill and released in soft cover with Haymarket Books late last year, is an in-depth exploration of the concept of subsumption as it appears in the works of three great thinkers, and the relevance of the paradigm for modern critical theory. In this book, Andres traces the concept of subsumption through Kant, Hegel, and Marx, in both its philosophical dimensions and its relevance to critical social theory. Andres examines the utilisation of subsumption as a conceptual framework whereby a particular is brought under a universal, up to the complex and dynamic operations of subsumption in modern-day capitalism, as a system that subsumes human life under the logic of value. As Andres illustrates through the intricate and careful argument in the book, following the use of subsumption in the work of these key theorists not only offers a new perspective to understand these thinkers, but helps articulate a historically-focused and robust framework to investigate the mechanisms of capitalist power. Of particular interest perhaps from a political economy perspective is Andres' investigation of Marx's journey through subsumption within the pages of Subsumption in Kant, Hegel and Marx, and also how the theoretical framework of subsumption helps us understand production and social reproduction under capitalism. Elliot Dolan-Evans is a sessional lecturer and tutor in law at Monash University and RMIT. His research investigates the political economy of global capitalism, forms of international governance, and questions of war and peace. His first book, Making War Safe for Capitalism: The World Bank, IMF and the Conflict in Ukraine, is now out with Bristol University Press. Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of Research 2 Reps, we're joined by Dr. Catherine Saenz for a conversation that starts with her path through exercise science, nutrition, research, professional baseball, and academia. Dr. Saenz has built a career at the intersection of several disciplines, and we talk about how that background shapes her view of athlete health and performance. From her early research experiences at Maryland to her graduate work at UConn and Ohio State, she shares how her curiosity about performance nutrition eventually expanded into a much bigger picture of how training, nutrition, recovery, and physiology work together. We also spend a good part of the conversation digging into ketogenic diets and what the research actually tells us about using them with athletes. Catherine explains why no single sport or athlete is automatically a good fit, and why the individual, the timing, and the reason for using a particular dietary approach all matter. From elite ultra-endurance athletes using carbohydrates during competition to the differences between nutritional ketosis and ketone supplements, this conversation is a good reminder that performance decisions rarely happen in isolation. We close out this first part by talking about something that matters just as much as the science: learning how to listen, communicate, and work effectively within a multidisciplinary performance team. Genetic testing is no longer a distant, specialized tool reserved for rare disease clinics or academic centers. It's showing up in pediatric practice. For example, pediatricians are increasingly considering genetic diagnoses in children with developmental delays outside the normal range. A NICU graduate may already carry a genetic diagnosis when they see their pediatrician after discharge. What does the practicing pediatric provider need to understand about ordering and interpreting genetic tests? In this episode, we unpack how community pediatricians can make sense of the world of genomics. Joining us for this robust conversation are Austin Larson, MD, and Margarita Saenz, MD. Dr. Larson is a pediatric medical and biochemical geneticist. He is the Medical Director of Precision Medicine Clinical Informatics, as well as the Director of the Mitochondrial Care Network Clinic at Children's Hospital Colorado. Dr. Saenz specializes in clinical genetics and dysmorphology. She is the Medical Director of Precision Medicine Education and Family Engagement. They both are faculty members at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Some highlights from this episode include: Recent advances making genetic testing more accessible to patients How the rise of exome and genome sequencing has changed the diagnostic approach in pediatrics Secondary findings and how they should be discussed in advanced Practical advice for a pediatrician who feels overwhelmed to order and interpret these tests For more information on Children's Colorado, visit: childrenscolorado.org.

Bob Saenz shares a rare, honest look at what it means to build a long-term career as both an actor and screenwriter. From his early days in theater and television to writing studio films and Hallmark movies, Bob's journey emphasizes craft over shortcuts. He explains how his time acting on Nash Bridges became a hands-on education in filmmaking, shaping his approach to writing realistic dialogue, authentic scenes, and story-driven scripts. The conversation also explores the dangers of ego, the myths of overnight success, and why breaking screenwriting “rules” can sometimes be the smartest move. Bob discusses how networking is about relationships—not transactions—and why patience is the most underrated skill in Hollywood. His story is a grounded, experience-driven roadmap for writers who want careers that last, not just scripts that sell once.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bulletproof-screenwriting-podcast--2881148/support.
