It's something that a few of you have asked for over the years, and to be honest, I've always felt mixed about. In a society that tells mothers to 'bounce back' after full-term, live births - the pressure for bereaved mothers can be crushing.Thankfully, we have Casey to talk to us about healthy re-engagement with fitness and how to look after your post-partum body. Casey is passionate about core and pelvic floor health, any exercise you do should consider these aspects of your physiology. Some terms used:Diastasis - When the muscles of the abdomen separate during or after pregnancy.Pelvic Floor - Several muscle, ligaments and fascia attached to your pelvis. Damaged/weakened pelvic floor muscles can lead to incontinence (leaking wee or poo).Prolapse - Pelvic organ prolapse is when 1 or more of the organs in the pelvis slip down from their normal position and bulge into the vagina. It can be the womb (uterus), bowel, bladder or top of the vagina. We hope you enjoy this episode and get some good advice and support in how to go about healthy fitness. You can find Casey on Instagram @twopeaswellness and her website can be found here.Happy listening!

Suzie had two TFMRs , and after her second one, she decided to write a book exploring how creativity can help us navigate our grieving process and ease trauma. The Rallying Cry is part autobiography, part research and part workbook.Christmas is a difficult time of year for anyone who's grieving. Really, this episode could be listened to for any time there's a big cultural celebration that brings families, friends and communities together, as it's at these times that we are made keenly aware of who isn't here.TFMR is baby loss and a traumatic loss. Often, especially in the early stages of our grief, trauma is present in the form of high-anxiety and/or PTSD. Research shows that creativity in any form helps to regulate our central nervous system. As does acts of kindness, practising gratitude (not to be confused with 'positive thinking') and being in nature. This episode is packed full of ideas on how to help ease your pain, from ideas for acts of kindness to including your baby in your Christmas traditions; to incorporating creativity and setting boundaries to give yourself the space you need. You can find the link to Aching Arms (mentioned in the episode) here. Does ending a pregnancy due to detected fetal abnormality amount to disability discrimination? No, of course not. Once again, this is a case of trying to simplify a complex and nuanced situation. Mara and I then get into deeper conversations about abortion, what it means to be pro-choice, how TFMR intersects with all of this, etc, etc. It's a rich and fast moving conversation, hold on to your seats folks! And I will say, listen to your instincts about whether to listen to this episode or not. I am very aware of what the word abortion can bring up for TFMR parents, and we use it a lot in this episode.  You can find Mara on Instagram @mara.k.clarke and Abortion Support Network @abortionsupportnetwork If you do listen, get in touch and let us know what you think. Today we're speaking with Lucy Livesey again, all about well-being, including mindfulness meditation, for those going through baby loss. Lucy is a mental health nurse, hypnobirthing instructor, mindfulness teacher. She and her husband Rick lost their daughter, Ellie, in a TFMR a few years ago. After her experience, she went on to develop the Ellie's Gift App as a resource for others to help them through the birth of a baby they know has died, or will die. The app has been developed in conjunction with the NHS. It has just had a new launch with more features. Lucy is dedicated to making sure this app keeps on being updated and added to.  You can find the app from Apple and Android now. Lucy also runs a specific mindfulness and grief courses, all free to use. She also runs baby loss sharing circles - again free.  She tells us about all the different resources she's offering, from the app to her sharing circles. In today's episode we hear from Janelle Ramsey. Janelle is a befriender for SANDS Leeds and runs a support group for parents who, for them, their baby who died is there last child.  This could either be because a decision has been made to stop trying for children (or more living children), or the decision has been made for them due to medical negligence, for example.  Janelle is a TFMR parent herself and while she was seeking support after her loss, she thought of the idea of setting up a group for those that find themselves not going on to have a subsequent live pregnancy. The conversations around trying to conceive and pregnancy after loss are important, but it can leave those who aren't heading down these paths feeling isolated and lonely.  For more information and to join their group, contact Janelle at support.leeds@sands.org Get in touch and let us know what you think. Hello! Welcome to today's episode. It is Pregnancy After Loss Awareness month and so we are pleased to bring you Susan's story. Susan tells us about her experiences of a third trimester TFMR and pregnancy after loss. These are two subjects we know many of you have been waiting to hear more about. Most TFMRs happen in the second trimester, usually after the anomaly scan at approximately 20 weeks gestation. However, when what is picked up isn't clear and further tests are needed, this can take women into the third trimester. Or, there are times, as in Susan's case, a problem is detected much later in pregnancy during what is meant to be a routine scan. At 36 weeks pregnant, Susan was told that their second daughter had a severe skeletal disorder. Susan has since gone on to have another daughter, and she speaks about the impact of her TFMR on her subsequent pregnancy. This episode is supported by Antenatal Results and Choices. Hello! We have another episode with a couple for our guests. This time it's with Mark and Angela Deeks. You hear from both of them about how the loss of their daughter, Laurie, to a TFMR effected them individually and as a couple. One of the things they speak so clearly about is how different their responses were to the news that Laurie was very poorly and that they would need to make a decision about whether or not to continue with the pregnancy. Angela seemed to accept, or understand better, the options available to them more easily than Mark. He struggled to understand what decisions they needed to make and why. This may speak to the fact that the care in these instances is heavily focused on mum and baby, rightly so, however, men, partners, can get lost in the maelstrom that unexpected and catastrophic news can bring. They may possibly be processing different emotions to those of their partners and need different types of information. Mark really noticed the lack of male voices in baby loss in general, but especially in TFMR. He decided he needed to do something about this and has been doing his bit to speak openly about what they've been through and how it's effected their lives. All three women have experienced a surgical termination. Jane and Patricia tell us about how BPAS took on the task of creating a TFMR pathway for those wanting/needing to access a ST and how there are more specialist hubs coming online within hospitals. These units will care for those women with medical conditions, meaning they can't be served by the independent sector. However, the hope/plan is that this will also serve those needing a TFMR as well. This means there will eventually be more doctors who can preform ST within the NHS, ensuring continuity of care for women and birthing people. They also bust the myths surrounding the debates around which is better for psychological well-being: surgical or medical termination. In this special episode we're joined by Jane Fisher from Antenatal Results and Choices (ARC) to talk about the High-Court case heard last week (August 6, 2021) brought by three people against the UK government. They want a change in the abortion law to restrict access in post 24 week terminations for those fetus's/babies found to have a non-fatal disorder and specifically, those found to have Down syndrome (DS). We talk about the emotional impact seeing and hearing these views in the media and how a balanced view is often missing from these reports. We speak about why DS is used as the disorder of choice by the anti-choice side, where that came from and why. We also talk about abortion/termination more widely. Are we, inadvertently, creating a grief hierarchy within the termination community by stressing how much we wanted our babies, but that they were ill and so we decided to to end our pregnancy? What about those (healthy) women had healthy babies, but for whatever reason, they too decided to end their pregnancy? Are they allowed to feel grief? Are we allowed to feel relief? This is a lively and challenging discussion, and it won't be our last. In today's episode we're talking with Dr Jessica Zucker. Jessica is a psychologist, writer and author specialising in reproductive and maternal mental health. She started the I Had A Miscarriage campaign in 2014 on Instagram after having her own second trimester miscarriage in 2012. She has just published a memoir of the same name. We talk to Jessica about her work with TFMR parents, how she feels about those who question her unwavering support and inclusion of TFMR as baby loss and why the wider baby loss community needs to include TFMR. Jessica tells us about her own baby loss experience and we talk about the 'what ifs' in her situation. This is a powerful episode and we hope you will feel empowered and validated by Jessica's words of support for TFMR parents.  You can follow Jessica on Instagram @ihadamiscarriage and you can find her book on Amazon US or Amazon UK Get in touch and let us know what you though of this episode.
