So many tools… So many escapes… So many ways to fork over your creative power and expression. The question is: at what point do such powerful tools as AI and AI language models start to take away from your creative expression rather than support it? Are you making yourself and your creations available to the divine? Or stopping the flow as soon as you start? And what would it feel like to finally BELIEVE in your creative power rather than let your ego drive? This is a conversation about reclaiming your innate power and capacity for mind-blowing levels of creativity. There's no shaming of AI, chat GPT, and advancements in technology, but rather an invitation to take an honest look at how YOU really want to feel, what you really WANT to create, and the most gratifying way to get there.Enjoy this open discussion on supporting your most creatively alive self, and let us know what you think! In honor of this topic, absolutely NO AI support was used in the creation of any part of this episode.Supportive Episodes:#86 - Your Ideas Are Their Own Entity: Life-Changing Approach to Creativity#75 - You are this close to GENIUS MODE#41 - Heal, Liberate, and Overcome THROUGH Creativity: Rick Rubin and the creative journey✨ Download Our Free Meditations & Sound JourneysReconnect with your mission and gain clarity on your next chapter through these transformative experiences:Remember Your Purpose MeditationGet Clarity on Your Next Chapter MeditationJoin the Oasis Membership:Dive into our world of exclusive content and LIVE integration sessions. Artist and provocateur Brian Andrew Whiteley joins The Truth In This Art to talk about creating work that pushes buttons and blurs boundaries. Based in New York, Brian is known for his politically charged performances and installations—from the infamous Trump Tombstone to his leadership at the artist-run Satellite Art Show.In this wide-ranging conversation, Brian reflects on the early days of his work with creepy clown performances, how drawing comics sparked his creative journey, and why art that provokes discomfort can often spark the deepest conversations. He shares the legal and emotional fallout from controversial projects, what it means to stay committed to an experimental path, and how building spaces like Satellite offers artists a way out of the commercial art world's rigid structure. This is an honest, funny, and layered dialogue about creative risk, censorship, and what it takes to build something outside the system.Highlights include:The story behind the Trump Tombstone—and how it led to a Secret Service investigationWhy embracing absurdity became central to his practiceBuilding Satellite Art Show as a true artist-first platformLearning to push past legal threats and backlash to stay true to his ideasWhy success isn't about sales—it's about freedom and community

In this short and heartfelt reflection, Christina Cook—host of The Broke Girl Society—invites you to explore the healing power of creative expression. Inspired by the quote, “When words are too heavy, creativity becomes our voice,” this episode is a gentle reminder that you don't need to find the perfect words to move through difficult emotions.Christina shares how creativity can take many forms beyond traditional art—like rearranging a vase of flowers, creating a cozy corner, baking with intention, or curating a playlist that speaks when you can't. These simple acts of self-expression aren't about performance—they're about presence. They're how we remind ourselves: “I'm still here. I'm still healing.”If you're feeling weighed down today, this episode is your permission to create something honest, something soft, something that brings a little beauty into your day.**If you are struggling with your mental health or having thoughts of self harm, please seek the help of professionals. Burton Rast shares his unconventional journey from punk rock kid in Chicago to design leader at Google and acclaimed photographer. Starting with pirated software on hotel computers, Burton built his first portfolio while working the night desk, teaching himself HTML, Flash, and Photoshop through stolen moments between guests. His story weaves through the dotcom era, agency burnout, and his transformative years at IDEO where he first experienced imposter syndrome among formally educated designers. The conversation takes a deeply personal turn as Burton reveals how the death of his closest friend in 2016 unconsciously transformed his photography from vibrant color work to the stark black-and-white aesthetic that would define his artistic identity. This realization came six years later while preparing a lecture, highlighting how grief can reshape creative expression in ways we don't immediately recognize.Burton discusses the evolution from "creating art" to "creating content," the ethical implications of AI training on artists' work, and his current role advising creative AI startups. The episode explores themes of addiction, obsession, creative authenticity, and the importance of personal narrative in an increasingly homogenized digital landscape.Key TakeawaysEmbrace the generalist identity - Having diverse skills across design, code, and photography creates unique career opportunities and perspectivesCreate without permission - The punk ethos of just doing it, learning through necessity, and not waiting for formal approval or educationChannel obsession productively - Replacing destructive addictions with creative obsessions can become a powerful force for building skills and career momentumYour trauma becomes your art - Personal hardships and loss often unconsciously shape artistic expression in profound and meaningful waysStories differentiate us - In a world of similar portfolios and AI-generated content, personal narrative becomes the ultimate differentiatorImposter syndrome hits when you level up - Feeling inadequate often signals you're in the right room with people who can teach youValue comes from effort - Things that require no effort (like AI-generated content) are inherently difficult to value personally and professionallyLanguage shapes perception - The shift from calling work "art" to "content" systematically devalues creative expression and should be resistedGrief changes creative output - Major life events can unconsciously alter artistic style and voice, sometimes creating signature workPay it forward - Success comes with responsibility to mentor and open doors for the next generation of creative professionals Mindful Creative: How to understand and deal with the highs and lows of creative life, career and business Paperback and Kindle > https://amzn.to/4biTwFcFree audiobook (with Audible trial) > https://geni.us/free-audiobookSigned books https://novemberuniverse.co.ukLux Coffee Co. https://luxcoffee.co.uk/ (Use: PODCAST for 15% off)November Universe https://novemberuniverse.co.uk (Use: PODCAST for 10% off)

He believes in the importance of painting from life to develop fundamental artistic skills, stressing that understanding principles like value, composition, and color provides a foundation for creative expression. Throughout his career, Keith has learned to approach plein air painting as a way to capture the essence of color, light, and atmosphere, rather than creating finished pieces, and uses these sketches as references for more contemplative studio paintings. His artistic journey began with a love for art in school, and he transitioned to being a full-time artist with the support of his wife, navigating the challenges of an art career through discipline and continuous learning. Keith advocates for building personal relationships with clients, maintaining an email newsletter, and having a strong website as key marketing strategies for artists. Finally, Keith reminds us of the value of constraints in fostering creativity and encourages aspiring artists to paint from life, return to fundamental principles, and understand that creativity is a dialogue between the left and right brain hemispheres.Keith's FASO site:https://keithbond.com/Keith's Social media:https://www.instagram.com/keith.bond/https://www.facebook.com/KeithBondFineArt

How can schools integrate Social-Emotional Learning, Belonging, Global Citizenship and Creative Expression in one beautiful package? By prioritizing a crucial aspect of schooling: The Arts. And yet The Arts are often relegated to “encore” status, underfunded or even dispensed with duiring budget crunches. For this show, we assembled a talented panel of guests who represented years of experience and an array of artistic disciplines: Film, Theater, Art and Music.David Gran has developed and taught film programs for 20 years in the U.S., Shanghai, and Chile. He was a co-founder of SAS's Innovation Institute and Nido's Changemakers program, the Shanghai Student Film Festival and the InThinking site for IB Film. David is also a former columnist for School Arts Magazine.Tina Casey is the HS Theater Teacher and the Performing Arts Director at ISKL. She has been working overseas for over 30 years, including 15 years in Malaysia. This year marks Tina's final year at ISKL, after which she will return home with her husband to Northern Ontario for a "nap year" before deciding on next steps.Nick Stonehouse is an art and design educator currently working in HCMC, Vietnam. He has taught in multiple curricula at a range of ages, from Early Childhood to Secondary. At present, Nick is thoroughly enjoying teaching grades 2 and 3 art. Nick is also an avid photographer, artist, art enthusiast, and world traveler.Scott Rogal has taught in Canada, Hong Kong and Vietnam. Currently, he teaches Band at the American School of Bahrain and conducts the Jazz Orchestra of Bahrain, a semi-professional ensemble featuring many of Bahrain's top musicians. He is also an active composer who writes and publishes through ApRo Music in Canada. Our guiding question for the show was “What are some characteristics that describe international school arts programs?”Our panelists shared many insights around implementing an arts program while also sharing specifics about their individual domains of music, theater, film and art. Here are a few of the topics covered: What a standard K-12 arts program from a holistic perspective can look likeUnpacking the components of an arts program including mission/vision, infrastructure, curricular outcomes, etc. Painting the picture of what music, theater, film and art look like in ES, MS and HSThis was a rich discussion with each participant chiming in with their takes while sharing experiences from their careers. We has so many questions that plans are already being made for a follow-up recording! This episode was recorded on March 29, 2025.Categories: The Arts | SEL | Life Skills Remember to access our Educators Going Global website for more information and consider joining our Patreon community at patreon/educatorsgoingglobal!Email us with comments or suggestions at educatorsgoingglobal@gmail.com Follow us on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram or YouTube.Listen on your favorite podcast app: connect from our share page.Music: YouTube. How can art serve as a powerful way to honor pregnancy, birth, and parenting experiences—especially for families who are often underrepresented in birth spaces? In this episode, Dr. Rebecca Dekker explores this question with Lauren J. Turner, a Baltimore-based artist, birth worker, and founder of Birth Nerds. Rebellious Creative Expression continues on the Gal's Guide Podcast. Josh talks about Françoise d'Eaubonne, the French author who coined the term ecofeminism.
Creativity is defined as “the ability to use imagination or original ideas to produce something new.” According to this definition, everyone, including you, has a creative side. We all have vibrant and imaginative minds that can generate fresh and unique ideas. However, societal beliefs often lead us to think that art is undervalued or inaccessible to most people. To challenge these misconceptions about artistic expression and to create a space where everyone's creativity is celebrated, I've invited Amie McNee. Amie McNee is an author, speaker, and creative coach. In addition to her historical fiction, she has written four much-loved books, all of which discuss the realities and magic of leading a creative life. Amie is known for speaking, teaching, and coaching artists all over the world and helping them achieve their creative dreams. In this empowering discussion, Amie not only explores the various challenges that creatives encounter, but also offers transformative guidance and mindsets. She encourages you to take your art seriously and reach new heights in your creative journey.
We explore the fundamental impulse that drives us to create and communicate through our art. Inspired by Bruce Springsteen's reflection that his need to express himself is "as reliable as the rhythmic beating of my own heart," we examine this universal language that transcends medium, form, and intention. Whether it's through music, film, photography, or simply speaking our truth, we discuss how creation isn't just something we do—it's essential to feeling alive and connected to our existence.Over whiskey tastings and spirited conversation, we debate the tension between raw emotional expression and crafted artistic discipline. We question whether today's culture of immediate sharing has changed our relationship with the creative process, potentially sacrificing longevity for immediacy. At the heart of our discussion is the recognition that creating isn't merely about ego or recognition—it's about transforming our personal experiences into something that resonates beyond ourselves, lifting the ephemeral into something that endures. As one of us notes during our conversation, "We want to feel like we exist," and perhaps creating is the most profound way we confirm that we do. -Ai If you enjoyed this episode, please consider giving us a rating and/or a review. In this episode, I dive into the deep waters of goddess symbolism, cultural history, and healing. Drawing from the work of Maria Gimbutas, we'll explore the image of the ancient water goddess—The Mistress of Waters—and how her symbols, from birds to the simple V shape, reveal a worldview rooted in fertility, feminine energy, and creative expression.I also look at how these symbols arose in response to real challenges like drought, and how they remain relevant today in the face of chronic dehydration, climate crisis, and emotional overwhelm. We'll connect these ancient stories to our current relationship with water—as medicine, as spirit, and as a force for environmental awareness and personal healing.Along the way, I'll share how Marshmallow root, a humble but powerful herbal ally, can help restore moisture to both the body and the spirit. Whether you're called to protect water, deepen your health practices, or reconnect with the divine feminine, I hope this conversation brings insight and inspiration.Nourishing Marshmallow Overnight Infusion Recipe- 3/4 cup Dried Nettle Leaf- 3/4 cup Dried Lemon Balm Leaf- 3/4 cup Dried Marshmallow RootAdd herbs to a glass quart jar. In this episode of the Creative Genius podcast, I interview Rebe Huntman about her debut memoir, "My Mother in Havana, a memoir of magic and miracle." Rebe shares her personal story of losing her mother at a young age and the subsequent decades of feeling disconnected from her memory. Driven by a deep longing and intuition, Rebe embarked on a 30-day DIY pilgrimage to Cuba to seek a different perspective on grief and connection. The conversation delves into how Rebe's background as a Latin dancer led her to discover the spiritual roots of Cuban dances and the traditions of honoring the deceased. Rebe recounts her experiences immersing herself in rituals dedicated to the goddess Oshun, visiting the sanctuary of Cuba's patron saint, and meeting with a spiritist who she hoped would connect her with her mother.Rebe and I discuss the importance of intuition and following one's unique path, even when it doesn't seem logical. We also explore the disconnect in Western culture from ancestral connections, magic, and meaningful rituals, contrasting it with the Cuban traditions of keeping the dead close. The conversation touches on the challenges of staying creative and connected to one's inner voice in the face of overwhelming global issues and personal fears. Rebe shares her belief in creativity as a portal and emphasizes the importance of honouring inner longings and choosing to champion humanity. She also shares her personal rituals for grounding and connecting with her intuition and ancestors, offering practical advice for listeners seeking to do the same. Ultimately, Rebe's story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit, the wisdom of intuition, and the potential for magic and miracle in our lives, even in the darkest of times.
