In mid‑2023, Morgan State University launched an internal investigation into Associate Professor of Mathematics Dr. Jonathan Farley after news emerged that he had independently reached out to Jeffrey Epstein—then jailed on sex trafficking charges—in July 2019. In a highly self-serving email, Farley requested a $5 million donation from Epstein to fund an endowed chair for women in mathematics, suggesting this act could rehabilitate Epstein's public image and even likening it to avoiding a conviction akin to Bill Cosby's. He also implied that such a contribution would generate support within the Black community. Crucially, university officials emphasized that Farley had acted alone and without institutional approval, stressing that Morgan State had neither solicited Epstein nor empowered any employee to do so.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:A Math Professor Suggested a Jailed Jeffrey Epstein Give Him Money to Repair His Image in the Black Community (vice.com)Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

This episode dives into everything from hip-hop nostalgia to modern fatherhood, with plenty of laughs and real talk along the way. We kicks things off by honoring the late Walter Scott Jr. of The Whispers, running through favorite tracks and his impact. Then it's on to Philly's trash strike, breaking down worker demands and city struggles, plus a shoutout to Housebar, a Black-owned D.C. spot selling niche liquors and local snacks. Segment 1 heats up with a playful debate: Which hip-hop label had the best roster back in 2010? From Young Money's unstoppable trio to G.O.O.D. Music's critical acclaim, the hosts pick their dream signings and argue which label aged best. In Segment 2, it's all about Nelly & Ashanti's new show—is it genuine love or strategic TV? They also dive into Nelly's viral take on skipping the diaper stage until kids can talk, sparking convo on modern fatherhood and parenting roles. Segment 3 gets reflective, asking why the art of just chilling seems lost. Are group chats, curated outings, and hustle culture killing the casual hangout? The hosts swap stories on the last time they had an unplanned link-up. Other highlights include a quick debate on Wale vs. Chris Brown's emotional styles, favorite summer songs that instantly set the mood, and love for Morgan State's band, which just made history as the first HBCU to headline a solo pavilion in Venice, Italy. The show wraps by checking in with listeners: Which label would you sign to? Are you watching Nelly & Ashanti? What's your ultimate summer track?
Visual artist and educator Christopher Batten returns to reflect on evolution, resilience, and what it means to keep pushing—on canvas and in the classroom. Now in his 10th year living in Baltimore and his third year teaching at Morgan State, Christopher shares how his practice continues to evolve. We talk about the role of failure, what teaching over 1,000 students has taught him, and how martial arts, memory, and perseverance shape his work. This conversation was recorded shortly before his residency at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and after being featured in Luminosity in Detroit.Teaching as an artistic tool and the unexpected lessons it bringsWhy HBCU teaching fulfills a lifelong dream and sense of purposeHow rejection fueled four years of growth—and what changed when a “yes” finally cameThe importance of celebrating milestones and making space for creative restorationShifting definitions of success and the value of impact over popularity
Baltimore-based artist and designer Elijah Trice returns to talk about growth, storytelling, and painting the everyday with dignity and joy.Since our last conversation in 2022, Elijah has expanded his practice beyond hyperrealistic portraiture to explore themes of childhood memory and creative freedom. We recorded this just after his first solo show, Nothing Else Matters, which followed a transformative residency at Maryland Hall. Elijah shares how his architectural training shaped his painting style, what he's learning from teaching, and why joy is radical in a world so often defined by struggle. How building furniture sparked a deeper connection to makingUsing vivid backgrounds and saturated color to honor Black eleganceTapping into nostalgia, storytelling, and his inner childThe pros and cons of meticulous planning vs improvising in the studioWhy nothing else matters—except the subject
