1 in 5 people in the USA live with a disability. 1 in 9 [working] adults have a disability in the USA. These means you either know someone with a disability or you work with one. Well, because this is a topic that isn’t as sexy to talk and learn about, as it is disturbing. These alarming numbers exhibit how critical this conversation is for the planet to hear! Dr. Kymrae missed October’s Disability Awareness Month during the Show’s Season Break, so she wanted to be sure to catch up and connect with Dr. Quintin Boston, Ph.D., LCMHC, CRC, to encourage her subscribers to tune in and to become aware and learn more about the limitations that so many people manage daily. The two discuss the different types of disabilities (physical, mental, sensory, and intellectual), disabilities within communities of color, disabilities in the workplace and vocational rehabilitation, ADA laws and regulations, and most importantly, how you can advocate for people with disabilities. Dr. Boston also has published books, presented at countless conferences, has a consulting firm, Boston Vocational Consulting (BVC), where they do third-party expert testimonial consulting for the Social Security Administration for civilians seeking disability; vocational evaluations and assessments; and trainings, where he consults other future practitioners on CRC Exam Preparation. Dr. Kymrae meets with her Community Activist and SocialJustice Pal, Gemini Boyd to discuss his life after Prison. Gemini shares how and why he was incarcerated for 20 years (Drug Conspiracy), his Bail Project work following incarceration, what inspired him to persist upward as a Returning Citizen, and how he was released early from Prison due to President Obama's Administration amending the laws surrounding non-violent sentences.
