I sat down with Glenn Sandifer, who went from being a self-proclaimed "introverted only child" to a corporate leader with some fascinating stops along the way – including a stint at Samsung back when they were the "Dynex of their day" (his words, and if you're too young to get that reference, count yourself lucky). We dove into how growing up ping-ponging between family members and entertaining himself with video games and comics inadvertently prepared him for leadership. Glenn had me chuckling with his story of becoming a tech expert by practically living in libraries, learning the difference between plasma and LCD displays when most of us were just hoping our TVs would turn on. But what really got me was his take on modern masculinity and leadership – turns out there's a world of difference between being a manager who just keeps the ship afloat and a leader who actually steers it somewhere worthwhile. His insights on male friendship and community hit especially hard in our age of LinkedIn connections but real-world disconnection. Between his corporate wisdom and spiritual groundedness, Glenn makes a compelling case for measuring success not by the size of your PowerPoint deck (he's down to two slides now), but by how many people you help climb the ladder with you.About Glenn: Founder Glenn Sandifer has the current privilege of leading the world class Inside Sales and Client Sucess group at the second largest Global Security provider. His strategic leadership and client-centric approach, lead to consistent conversion of inbound and outbound contacts, envied by the competition. Glenn provides strategic support within the Global Marketing Team with a heavy focus on North American Markets. Whether it is supporting the Sales Operations components of the business or providing support to the Operations group, Glenn ensures value for the organization stays top of mind. In 2018, Glenn Founded Glenn Sandifer Consulting with the aim of supporting SME and Local Enterprise Organizations in their efforts around Demand Generation, Lead Qualification, Lead Nurture and Client Success practices. Most clients were in the Home Service Verticals and enjoyed unprecedented growth during this time. He is currenlty a member of Emblaze (formerly AA-ISP) Wilson County and Nashville Black Chambers of Commerce. Glenn is also a proud member of the Gamma Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Glenn is from Indiana, but currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee with his wife and two children. WebsiteLinkedInFaceBookInstagram

This episode was by far one of the most surprising! T.H. Moore is a Southwest Philadelphia native who relocated to Camden, New Jersey at the age of ten. He's an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Morgan State University. His career as an Information Technology Consultant and Real-Estate investor has afforded him the opportunity to travel to many countries all over the world as well as most of the United States. Blending experience with imagination helped formulate the basis of, and inspired him to write his first novel, “The End Justifies the Means”. His second novel, “The Devil's Whisper”, is uniquely creative fiction that ventures away from the inspiration of his own life experiences. In The Devil's Whisper, he dives into a darker set of dual protagonists whose sole objective is to survive the circumstances of the world they live in. In his third novel “I AM…” T.H. Moore plays clairvoyant and without apology release the wrath of American citizens targeted by police brutality. T.H. Moore is the proud father of one son, Jason, and currently resides in Baltimore where he is completing his first nonfiction work titled “Ghetto B*****d: A memoir”. In this book he takes an honest audit and chronicling of his life traumas and the decisions resulting from them and how they shaped his life both good and bad. He shares how acknowledging his flawed behavior ultimately led to resolving them with the help of therapy. Now, emotionally free and at peace, he shares his journey for the first time with readers.

In the fall of 1994, Nathaniel Turner learned he would become a father. Given the tumult of his childhood, Nathaniel was terrified that he would be a chip off the wrong block. Determined not to sentence his child to the same adverse childhood experiences Nate suffered, Nate did something novel. He studied backward design and how he might apply it to parenting. The backward design approach worked phenomenally for his son. In addition to raising a multilingual child accepted to 27 of America's best universities, receiving a fellowship to earn his Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and full-ride to NYU's Stern School of Business, to name a few highlights, Nate discovered that the tools, techniques, and strategies used to aid him on his educational and life journey were applicable for Nate's own life. Nowadays, Nate enjoys sharing what he knows about raising children and helping students get in and graduate from their dream schools with little to no debt. Equally important is that he gets to share with others how to design your life backward so that you can live your life just as you always imagined. In episode 437 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we find out how Nate was able to rise above 8 adverse childhood experiences, what made him choose Butler University, what made him want to join Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., what is a life template and how does it work, how do we raise dreamers who embrace the responsibility to change the world, why do other generations like to attack generation Z, how universities can improve their retention and graduation rates, how fitness watches can help you, and what are some diet and nutrition tips for college students. Enjoy!

THE KELLY CARDENAS PODCAST PRESENTS Eddie George was announced as the 22nd head football coach at Tennessee State University on April 13, 2021. "I am excited about being named head coach at Tennessee State University," said George. “All I have done has prepared me for this moment, whether that's my football career, my entrepreneurial endeavors, my acting career. Coaching is a full commitment, a duty of service. I take that seriously. I've done a lot of soul searching and due diligence. The more I thought about it, I got more and more excited about it. It was like picking up an old guitar or getting back on a bike, it's familiar but in a different capacity. It's exciting. I'm going to be innovative, creative and fun." George played college football for Ohio State University and won the Heisman in 1995. That season, George rushed for a school record 1,927 yards and 24 touchdowns, an average of 148.23 yards per game, while also catching 47 passes for 417 yards and another score. He left Ohio State second in school history in career rushing yards (3,768) and third in rushing touchdowns (44). The Philadelphia native finished with 4,284 all-purpose yards, 45 touchdowns, and a 5.5 yards-per-carry average. In 1996, George was the first-round draft selection of the then-Houston Oilers. He won the NFL Rookie of the Year award that season, and was the Oilers/Titans' starting tailback through 2003, never missing a start. He made the Pro Bowl four consecutive years (1997–2000), and assisted the Titans to a championship appearance in Super Bowl XXXIV. George is only the second NFL running back to rush for 10,000 yards while never missing a start, joining Jim Brown. Only Walter Payton (170) started more consecutive regular season games than George's 130. In 2004, George signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys where he started eight games and finished the season with 432 yards and four touchdowns. He officially retired in 2006. George's career totals include 10,441 rushing yards, 268 receptions, 2,227 receiving yards, and 78 touchdowns (68 rushing and 10 receiving). George was inducted in the College Hall of Fame in 2011 and the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and a board member of Music City Baseball. “When I talk about family history, I tell people to look at the people in their family. See what it is that bothers them. Why is that important? You contain somewhere between 40 to 70% of the genetic material of each of your parents. And it'll be in a different mixture based on the way the good Lord wanted it to come out. But if both of your parents have high blood pressure, and both of your parents have high cholesterol, and both of your parents have had strokes at an early age, and you do the same things that they did, such as eat lots of cholesterol, fried foods, smoke cigarettes, you're probably going to have a stroke as well,” explains Dr. David Chatman. Dr. David Chatman is currently the Medical Director of Focused Claims Review in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Optum Health Care following a successful career as vascular surgeon. He talks with host D-Rich about the importance of communicating and understanding your family medical history. They are joined by Dr. Allison Matthews, Executive Director and Research Fellow in Faith and Health, to discuss the stigma surrounding HIV in the Black community. Historically, the Black community and Black churches have not been very accepting of the LGBTQ community and as such there is a large stigma surrounding HIV. People prefer to act like HIV does not exist and to stay silent. This leads to HIV-positive Black and Brown individuals being uncomfortable with seeking care or even just speaking with their families about their experiences. Talking about HIV status is not the only medical issue that the Black community struggles with. Many adults prefer not to talk about any of their health concerns or medical history with others, even their own children. It is vital that we normalize having these discussions in an understanding and compassionate way because knowing your family medical history could be the difference between life and death in many cases. It can be difficult to have conversations about medical concerns. Many people delay going to the doctor because they would rather not know something is wrong. By working to remove the stigma surrounding medical conditions, we can make it easier for people to choose to seek out care. Quotes • “Nationally we don't really have a lot of faith based initiatives around HIV, because of the stigma. A lot of people don't agree with homosexuality in the Black community and in Black churches in particular. Unfortunately, churches have been one of the main sources of stigma around HIV. We were founded in 2021 to coordinate efforts to put money into faith based organizations that are committed to addressing HIV stigma in a responsible and compassionate way.” (5:21-6:02 | Dr. Allison) • “The common thread through faith communities and our families is silence. I think a big reason why HIV has so much stigma is because we like to sweep things under the rug and act like things never happen. But our silence is what's killing us.” (18:44-19:08 | Dr. Allison) • “The thing that I like to share with the community and people who tend to be in what I call pockets of ignorance is information that's readily available to people who are in higher socioeconomic status, etc. And I like to say that these are situations that we need to talk to each other about. We need to educate each other about in order to fill these gaps.” (37:05-37:39 | Dr. David) • “When I talk about family history, I tell people, look at the people in your family. See what it is that bothers them. Why is that important? You contain somewhere between 40 to 70% of the genetic material of each of your parents. And it'll be in a different mixture based on the way the good Lord wanted it to come out. But if both of your parents have high blood pressure, and both of your parents have high cholesterol, and both of your parents have had strokes at an early age, and you do the same things that they did, such as eat lots of cholesterol, fried foods, smoke cigarettes, you're probably going to have a stroke as well.” (43:16-43:59 | Dr. David) Links Community Health Activation - Enabling Preventative and Restorative Health with Dr. Allison Mathews Connect with Dr. Allison Mathews: Website: https://drallisonmathews.com/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/allisonmathews/ Dr. Allison Mathews serves as Executive Director and Research Fellow in Faith and Health. We are joined by Kendrick (Woo) Wooten of Wooisms Podcast so hilarity ensues. Razi is not feeling the new resident evil and is going claving for the 2022 Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc Grand conclave. Ferg is hating on the clavers. Buff brings up Sesame Place and how it's a sun down town now. Ferg brings up the Sesame Street documentary on HBO and how it was created. Buff gets first question and wants the brothers views on Texas' new law on treating gender affirming treatments for minors as child abuse. Woo asks second question and asks what was a regret from college. Razi takes anchor and asks if you are in a heterosexual relationship is gay cheating (cheating with someone of the same sex) worse than traditional cheating. We close with thanking you all for the feedback on the mental health episode last week. Keep listening and tell a friend to listen. Today, it's another in our series of Conversations with the Candidates: 2022. Tom's guest is Bowie Mayor Tim Adams. He's running in the Democratic primary for Maryland Comptroller. His opponent in that race is Del. Brooke Lierman, who represents Baltimore in the General Assembly. Barry Glassman, the Harford County Executive, is running unopposed in the Republican Comptroller primary. The Maryland Comptroller is an office that doesn't change hands very frequently. Louis Goldstein had the job for nearly 40 years. The current Comptroller, Peter Franchot, was first elected to that office in 2007. He is running in the Democratic primary for Governor. Tim Adams was elected Mayor of Bowie in November, 2019, the first African American to hold that position in the city's history. He also serves as President and CEO of Systems Application & Technologies, Inc., or SATECH, a firm he founded in 1989. It serves the national security sector. It's headquartered in Upper Marlborough. Mr. Adams holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Xavier University, a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of New Orleans, and an honorary Doctorate from Bowie State University. He is also a lifetime member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. If elected Comptroller, Mr. Adams would be the first Black comptroller and the first paraplegic to hold statewide office in Maryland. Tim Adams is 62 years old. He lives in Bowie, Maryland. He is married to the Honorable Sheila R. Tillerson Adams. They are the parents of twins, Timothy and Kayla. An older daughter, Tiara, passed away in 2020. They have a young grandson, Nehemiyah. Tim Adams joins us on our digital line from Bowie. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
