POPULARITY
The idea that beauty might denote an actual quality of the world, something outside the human frame, is one of the great taboos of modern intellectual thought. Beauty, we are almost universally told, is a cultural contrivance rooted in politics and history, an illusion that exists only in human heads, for human reasons. On this view, a world without us would be a world without beauty. But in this episode Phil and JF explore two texts, by James Hillman and Peter Schjeldahl, that dare to challenge the modern orthodoxy. For Hillman and Schjeldahl, to experience the beautiful is precisely the break out of human bondage and touch the Outside. Beauty may even be one of the few truly objective experiences anyone could hope for. Please visit: AllAboutJack.Podbean.com I spoke with Dr. Louis Markos, professor in English at Houston Baptist University in early 2012 about his book Apologetics for the Twenty-first Century. This book is not just about C.S. Lewis, but a majority of it does deal with his views on the topic of Apologetics. Dr. Markos has also written several other books related to C.S. Lewis and I’ve interviewed him about some of those which can be found at the links below. After a long break from posting - sorry about that! - YIP is back with a episode featuring an interview with Jeremiah Soto of Solace! The super chill Soto talked to YIP about his music, past and present, creating his own record label and artist rights. Mary shares some of what she's listening to right now, Tammy does the Around Town thing, and both of them act rather silly. INFINITE DESIGN _________________There is no “attitude” when it comes to Infinite Design. If the 5 piece from Muskegon hadn’t been pulling guitars off the wall for a closer look at Firehouse, you would never know they are in a seriously heavy project that is still getting off it’s feet in terms of lineups, but gaining ground and purpose. They are doing this sans image. Scoreboard! It was easy to chat about anything and everything with these guys. We talked about recording obstacles, spreading the love for local music, and the limited life of cymbals in any “pissed” project. Luckily for them, the next time they shred a ride or crash, they’ll have coupons for Firehouse Guitars, thanks to the sponsorship of S.I.P at this local Muskegon music store! Make sure to stop in and check it out—and know that Firehouse is welcoming more band interviews and coupons to those participating!http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Muskegon-MI/Firehouse-Guitars-Muskegon/112564515461876Check out the podcast and make sure you listen to what they have to say, and don’t forget to stay tuned for the two songs at the end from their 2010 EP, “The Architect.” The track titles are “Symbiotic Infusion” and “Fallen Sands Of Life Lines.” Don’t forget to check out their Facebook page for more information on upcoming shows, such as Muskegon Metal and Hardcore Fest on Saturday, January 29th. Skeetown will be covering that one, hopefully broadcasting some vid for everyone to scope out!http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Infinite-Design/251717594500Thanks for listening everyone.
