There is a word you probably use that means something entirely different than what you think. In fact, it means the opposite of what you think. Yet, this opposite meaning has become so pervasive, even dictionaries now say that the wrong meaning is now okay. Listen and I will tell you what the word is and what it really means. https://www.jalopnik.com/dear-hollywood-please-knock-it-off-with-the-overdrive-5926885/ Artificial Intelligence can seem intimidating to some. Yet it is actually quite simple to use and it can do amazing things to make your life better. It can teach you a skill, plan your dinner, plan a trip, be a brainstorming partner and counsel you to help with a problem. These are just a few of the things you'll discover how to do from listening to my guest, Celia Quillan. What's one piece of advice you can give us this Monday morning? Adrian: My piece of advice, and thanks ever so much for having me on, is really around some of this mainstream self help advice that you often hear inside, outside of dentistry, which is you have to start a project or start a particular path with knowing your why.Or there's this overemphasis of the pursuit of purpose. My advice, and this is from a story that I can give, a bit of a painful story is that advice from my perspective is a bit a fallacy. And that holding fast to that, level of thinking can actually be quite limiting for people. I am not a life coach by any stretch, but I think that maybe sharing what I've been through might give people a perspective and hopefully free them from what I see a lot of people who are imprisoned by this pursuit at the moment. Michael: Interesting. So why, what, if you can break it down to us. What went on or why should we believe that it's a fallacy?Adrian: my story started in, late 2017 is before dentistry. And I came to the realization the paycheck I was expecting to receive after working for a family run business, which I'm a member of that family wasn't actually going to come through and I was already in a bit of a financial pickle.Difficulty, that's very English word there. And I really struggle with that. Now. I happened the year before to nurse my father who unfortunately died. He'd had secondary liver cancer. And this kind of moment that I had, this paycheck not coming through was a sort of a trigger for me to suddenly think about all that last big stress in my life that I obviously hadn't dealt with. What this did is it threw me a bit of an emotional breakdown. I stopped working. I just basically watched cartoons in bed for weeks. I was self employed at the time as well. And so my financial situation was just getting worse until, a family member who depended on me said to me, Adrian, you need to fix this.problem is at that particular time I was horrifically sad. And I've recently heard the best definition of sadness that it is the perception of a lack of options, which leads to hopelessness. So for me, I had an option to stay in bed I had a second option to go back and work for the family business, which I didn't want to do.But other than that, I didn't really know what to do. So I made the Option to find an option, right? So I did that and I came across a really weird thing It's called gdpr for u. s listeners that may have heard about it, is a piece of data protection Privacy legislation that was coming into the uk affecting businesses at that particular time and I thought well, maybe I learned this Maybe I just go all in and learn this and see where it takes me.So I learned I listened I watched You I did courses on everything I could do. And it was a fantastic distraction. It got me out of bed and I joined privacy professional Facebook groups, which are, a riot, but I came across one called GDPR for dentists. It's the UK dentists. I joined that. And over time I helped grew that I'd started answering people's questions as I was learning.I started posting content and therefore my confidence started to build from this courage that I built. Was starting to generate right because this was a very uncertain time for me And as I reflect back on it, I realized that the opposite to uncertainty is not certainty. It's courage You need to have the courage just to move out to get out of that state of feeling uncertain and that courage served me quite well because After a few months, I got a job as a gdpr consultant Which paid better than what I was in the family business for the last few years You I then became in a few months after that in a very senior role that on paper was like five years ahead of me on my career path, but I managed to get this kind of just living off this rocky montage of listening, learning, answering, consulting, training, just seeing where it took me.And I got this kind of passion for working dentistry and being with that community. Now all things were going well, had the experience, thought I'd set up my own business, I'd got And I got a, a good six months of selling out training courses, speaking events, consultancy. And then I got COVID.I got COVID in July 2021. And I got it bad, like hospital bad to the point where consultants were having conversations with me, such as, we're doing everything that we can do, Adrian, so you don't die. And my family were being told to prepare for the worst. Now, the spoiler alert on that is I survived but when I came out of this, they call hypo oxygen room, when you're on your own, it's just about to die kind of room and went back to the main ward.I look out to the people around me, suddenly there was a couple of nice guys, but some of these guys were so aggressive and rude and abusive to the nurses swearing. And I thought, you know what? I'm just gonna be as nice as I possibly could. I had a long road of recovery. And I thought well, you know, in my side personally, I know who I am, but you know what, I came out of there feeling quite lost professionally.Because I had to start again. I couldn't run my business. I couldn't do the training courses. I couldn't do the speaking events. I couldn't do the consulting because I couldn't finish a sentence because I was wheezing. lungs were shot to pieces. And so I had to start from scratch. I I had to do these menial, basic junior data protection roles. That I could have thought were beneath me. And as I recovered physically, I moved back up, I put the reps in the effort. I was actually working in a bank, I wasn't even working in dentistry, but I kept like a foot in dentistry because I knew that through this whole journey that had been a passion of mine that had weirdly come out of, this whole thing. And in 2022, late 2022, I met Abhi Krishna, who's the CEO of CareStack. And I saw there an opportunity to get back into dentistry, to work with a company that is very input focused, that's all about hard work, that presses through, and is just looking to break through to the next thing. And there's no purpose washing And I found really encouraging. And as I look back on this whole journey that I've been on, I realized that back in 2017, if I had that emotional breakdown, if I had tried to conjure up some sort of purpose, then find a why I would have just hit another emotional breakdown I think unless you're prepared to break down that, purpose and the actual behaviors and the actions, you're just going to come up disappointed. And so many people I see have these big whys and purposes that are typically created and crafted because of expectations from families, friends, their environment, that they end up getting there, hitting the peak of this mountain, and realizing actually they don't really like the view. So I've changed my whole view of that to thinking that the best mountain to climb is the one that doesn't have a peak.Just keep on climbing. See what passions and purposes come out of it, and enjoy it. Don't be held and imprisoned and shackled by this, overemphasis of a pursuit of purpose. Really lean into mastery, exploring, and opportunity. It is a far better way of fulfilment. Then having to fall into mainstream, conventional self help and development around knowing your purpose, knowing your why, I've learned the hard way. It's not worth buying into it. Michael: I appreciate that man. So lean into mastery, exploring, and it sounds like throughout this process, you first had to figure out your options, right? Then develop courage, To do that. Then you joined a group of like minded individuals. Throughout that process and then a passion grew you remained humble in order to continue to do what you're doing And then things started changing, but if I can ask you Adrian such a moment when you're, down emotionally, do you look for options when you're like, man, I'm trying, I'm looking for options and there's nothing?Adrian: It's a really good question. I think that maybe I was very fortunate to have that kind of intervention. Those five words, you need to fix this. I realized that particular point I had responsibilities. And I was being very good at sulking and being sad. And there's some people that are hit, in a really bad way. They're going to need medication and counselling and that kind of thing. I totally get that. But for my particular situation, which I think speaks for a lot of people that get to that point, is that you become comfortable with that way of feeling. something to point to, it's something to blame. And I was blaming the family business that I work for and this kind of stuff. I had to point back at myself and think there's got to be a way out of this. Now, as I've got older, I've realized, I've heard of different things. There is one where there's a Harvard business study which shows that You're 31% smarter when you're in a positive frame of mind, which means when you're in a negative frame of mind, you're dumber. Now, if you are sad, you don't wanna be dumb. would quite be happy for someone to say, you're quite sad at the moment. I don't wanna say it's from saying to me you're being dumb at the moment. So a lot of this is reframing your thinking and the fact that the thoughts that you have that make you sad are often created by ourselves. And they are just thoughts. I've learned as I've got older to try and see them as a tangible thing. A little bit like when you get mail in your mailbox, if it's from the IRS, you're probably not going to ignore it. But if it's a pizza delivery menu, and you're on a diet, and you don't want that, you're just going to chuck that into the bin.Thoughts can often be like that. And I've so many times when I felt down, I've tried to view them in my head as a tangible thing to know whether actually I need to lean into it. And look at it or whether I can just discard it because if you know this formula that performance equals potential minus interference, often the thoughts that we conjure up in our heads that can have this emotional response that we work ourselves up about is just interference. And if you really do want to unlock your potential so that you can perform better, you have to have behaviors which give you much better control over your thoughts. And naturally that can remove you from a sad state has been my experience. But of course, other folks have it harder, but deep seated trauma, which needs a little bit more attention. But I think for a lot of us, they're probably in the same situation as me when we're feeling sad. Michael: That's brilliant, man. I appreciate your time, Adrian. And if anyone has further questions, you can definitely find them on the dental marketer society, Facebook group, or where can they reach out to you directly?Adrian: Facebook's pretty good. Adrian, Dre. LinkedIn as well. So one of the directors here at CareStack and all of what we're trying to do as well is to make life easier for dentists and dental practices. Take away the interference they're currently suffering from their existing practice management systems maybe it's not throwing them into an emotional breakdown You know some monday mornings it could be like that So if you're looking for something that's different check us out on carestack.com book a demo Carestack we're all about putting the hard work in to take the hard work the difficult hard work away from practices and their teams Michael: Awesome, Adrian. Thank you so much for being with me on this Monday morning episode. Adrian: Thank you so much

Lisa Thal, an Author, Inspirational Speaker, and Business Coach with over 37 years of marketing, sales, and leadership experience, is the mastermind behind the book Three Word Meetings. Lisa's coaching is about creating sales and business meetings with fun and interesting 3-word topics that spark conversation and ignite excitement in sales teams.   Episode 246, where we delve into the crucial topic of productivity. We focus on learning to do more in a day and become More Productive!   Why can some people accomplish more in a day than others? The secret may be that they found a way to be more productive when tackling their to-do list.     In the morning, I am more focused, have more energy, and have fewer distractions. Therefore, I prioritize what must be done by doing it first. Later in the day may be the best time for others to focus.   On a scale of 1 to 10, how productive are you each day? Have you ever felt busy the entire day and unproductive at the end of a workday? This is especially true if you're in sales. You were busy answering emails, working on internal projects, and spending very little time offering solutions to your current clients or new prospects.     Being productive in today's world is a constant battle against the allure of technology. The advent of social media, instant messaging, and the on-demand world has significantly increased distractions, making time management more challenging than ever.     There are many ways each of us can be more productive. For the rest, we must understand a few guidelines. Understand how you work best Staying organized Outcomes over Outputs.   Understanding how to set ourselves up for productivity is crucial. Knowledge empowers us to eliminate as many distractions as possible and focus on the outcomes we need to accomplish. This means prioritizing tasks that will significantly impact our goals rather than just completing many tasks. Focusing on outcomes over outputs gives us a sense of control and confidence over our work, as we can see our progress towards our objectives.   One of the most effective productivity hacks, the Ivy Lee Method, was created over 100 years ago. Ivy Lee designed this process to maximize productivity for Charles Schwab's executive team by helping them focus on less to do more. The beauty of this method lies in its simplicity and proven effectiveness, giving you the confidence to apply it in your daily routine.   Most of us have applied his method. For example, when preparing for vacation, you focus on what must be completed before leaving. It's incredible how we eliminate distractions and create the desired outcomes before leaving.   The Ivy Lee Method, a century-old yet powerful technique, is a testament to the timelessness of productivity strategies. Designed by Ivy Lee to help Charles Schwab's executive team focus on less to do more, this method is a must-try for anyone seeking to boost their productivity.   Step 1. Write down six of the most important things you want to accomplish that day. Step 2. Prioritize that list. Some people find it best to do the smaller tasks first, while others find it more effective to get the big stuff out of the way first. Step 3. Focus and work through the list. Step 4. Check off the tasks you completed. Scratching tasks from your list, no matter how small, brings a unique satisfaction. This feeling of accomplishment can be a great motivator to keep you going. Step 5. Repeat.     Set yourself up to be more productive.   One of the most important things you can do to stay productive is to focus on yourself. It's also essential to take regular breaks between your outcomes. These short breaks are not just a pause in your work; they are a form of self-care that can improve your focus and prevent burnout, giving you a sense of relief and control.   Keep moving. Incorporating physical activity into your routine is not just a productivity tip; it's a game-changer. I will boost endorphins, enhance your positivity, and increase your concentration, making you feel more energized and positive about your work.     Until next time.   Stay inspired, keep learning, and be productive! Remember, the journey to productivity is a continuous learning process. Stay engaged and keep exploring new ways to enhance your productivity.   Learn more at www.Threewordmeetings.com.

Richard Branson once said, "If you're spending most of your life at work, it should not be a chore, and it should be fun."   In this episode of the Happy Hustle Podcast, I share the six reasons why having more fun can lead to increased financial prosperity.   Let's dive in and discover how embracing a fun-filled lifestyle can be a game-changer.   1. Celebrate the Wins:Acknowledging and celebrating even the most minor victories along your journey is crucial. The more fun you have to celebrate your achievements, the more fulfilling and prosperous your life will become. 2. More productive:Contrary to popular belief, having more fun boosts productivity. Allowing yourself time away from work to recharge and enjoy life replenishes your energy and prevents burnout.   3. Raise your vibration to attract better clients/team members:Your vibe attracts your tribe. If you're feeling burnt out, anxious, stressed, or unhappy, attracting the people and opportunities you desire will be challenging. Embracing more fun helps you radiate positive energy and attract abundance.   4. Space creates creativity:Engaging in enjoyable activities provides valuable space for creativity to flourish. Whether, it's taking a dance class, pursuing art, or learning martial arts, it allows you to tap into your creative potential. 5. Pull from outside experiences:  Never underestimate the power of learning from others and expanding your horizons through enjoyable experiences.   6. Fun is what life is all about:Life is about making meaningful relationships, enjoying experiences, and having fun. Engaging in a fulfilling and balanced lifestyle, which incorporates both work and play, is the key to true happiness.   So don't forget to grant yourself permission to prioritize fun guilt-free. Engage in activities that bring you joy and fill your cup. Whether it's fishing, dancing, or exploring a new hobby, embrace the pleasure of living a fulfilling life beyond work.   Connect with Cary!https://www.instagram.com/cary__jack/https://www.facebook.com/SirCaryJackhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/cary-jack-kendzior/https://twitter.com/thehappyhustlehttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFDNsD59tLxv2JfEuSsNMOQ/featured  Get a free copy of his new book,  The Happy Hustle, 10 Alignments to Avoid Burnout & Achieve Blissful Balance https://www.thehappyhustlebook.com/  Sign up for The Journey: 10 Days To Become a Happy Hustler Online Course http://www.thehappyhustle.com/JourneyApply to the Montana Mastermind Epic Camping Adventure https://caryjack.com/montana “It's time to Happy Hustle, a blissfully balanced life you love, full of passion, purpose, and positive impact!” Episode Sponsor Did you know that 4 out of 5 Americans are magnesium deficient?  And almost everyone is at suboptimal levels. And that's a big problem because magnesium is involved in more than 600 biochemical reactions in our body. Now here's what most people DON'T know: taking just any magnesium supplement won't solve your problem because most supplements use the cheapest kinds that your body can't use or absorb. That's why I exclusively recommend Magnesium Breakthrough. It doesn't make a difference if you're a business owner, or an entrepreneur with multiple businesses, or an executive in someone else's company, in this video I'm going to show you the #1 way to be more productive starting today. Now if this is the first time, you're seeing one of our videos, my name is Chris Guerriero and I've built nearly a dozen companies, four of which are 8-figure companies. And I've built leadership teams inside of each company who are rock stars at KNOWING what to do, and FOCUSING on the few actions that drive growth, so these days, my time spent working is FAR less than I used to. Meaning I have time now for myself, and my family and for hobbies and for sharing tactics like this that have helped me the most in BUILDING, acquiring and selling companies. And I say all that, so you know that anything I say here is based solely on EXPERIENCE, because I'm IN THE TRENCHES every day, working in my businesses, and developing leaders in each company. And nothing I share with you is something I just read in a book and haven't tested over and over again in multiple companies, and in multiple industries. So, when I say that I'm going to show you how to be MORE PRODUCTIVE, what I'm saying is that I'm going to show you the TOP PRODUCTIVITY HACK that I personally use to run 11 successful companies when most people struggle to run one… So, listen now and hear more…

In today's episode, we're exploring the Executive function skill of time management. Peg Dawson, my favorite executive function guru and a former guest on Focus Forward, defines the skill of time management as “the capacity to estimate how much time one has, how to allocate it, and how to stay within time limits and deadlines”. She continues by arguing that this process starts with one simple insight: understanding that time is important in the first place! As an Executive Function coach, time management is a skill that comes up as a challenge for pretty much all of my clients. Over the years, my clients and I have worked together to develop systems that help them take control over time and how it impacts their lives. I'm your host, Hannah Choi. Before I dive into this episode, I wanted to let you know that you can listen and subscribe with ease to Focus Forward on Apple podcasts, Google podcasts, Spotify, and all the others. We'd love your help and sharing our podcasts too. So if you know someone who would benefit from our content, please share it with them. Our goal is to provide useful tips and life changing inspiration to as many people as possible, so thanks for your help. Hannah Choi 00:46In today's episode, I'm exploring the executive function skill of time management. Peg Dawson, my favorite executive function guru and a former guest on Focus Forward defines the skill of time management as the capacity to estimate how much time one has, how to allocate it, and how to stay within time limits and deadlines. She says it also involves a sense that time is important. As an executive function coach, time management is a skill that comes up as a challenge for pretty much all of my clients. Over the years, my clients and I have worked together to develop systems that help them take control over time, and how it impacts their lives. Hannah Choi 01:32Today, I'm going to share with you a system that I've developed that can help with this, it's got four components. First, figure out your relationship with time. Second, learn how to prioritize and then do some prioritizing. Third, implement tools and strategies that support your time management. And lastly, and most importantly, reflect on what you've done and modify your approach as needed. Hannah Choi 02:01If you're like, Man, I don't want to do all four steps, I just want to skip ahead to the tools and strategy section. That's okay, I get it. But hear me out for one sec. Yes, diving in and implementing tools and strategies right now will help in the short term, it will. But I truly believe that in order to make lasting change, and improve your time management skills for the long run, and you know, just like make it easier for your future self, you got to put in the time to do the other work. That being said, if you're still not convinced, skip ahead to about 12 minutes to hear the section on tools and strategies, I fully support your decision. And this next section will be waiting for you if you decide to come back for more. Hannah Choi 02:44All right, so if you're still with me, yay. Before we start, you just might want to get a pen and paper so you can write some ideas down. Taking notes is not just for students, it saves a ton of time for your future self and can absolutely help with being more effective with your time. Okay, so let's start with my first step, which as I said, is figuring out your relationship with time. And I don't mean that like weird part of a relationship where you're not sure if you're just friends, or if you've moved into them more-than-friends zone. Or you can actually just introduced them now as your boyfriend or girlfriend. I just mean how do you experience time? When you're doing stuff? Do you run out of time? Do you think things will take way longer than they actually do? Do you have a good idea of how time passes? Or do you have no idea that time is the thing at all. Learning about your relationship with time is valuable because it can help you plan and prioritize your day. If you know that you always run out of time when you're doing work for a particular class, then you know, you have to budget a little more time for those assignments. For example, I noticed that while I am actually quite good at time management, I do get overwhelmed when I have many things to do that are back to back. So I learned to always add 15 minutes to something to give me a little break before switching to a new activity. There are some good tools you can use to figure out this whole time relationship business. One of our favorites here at beyond booksmart is the BVA, which stands for budgeted versus actual. And this tool can help you figure out pretty darn quickly if you are an over or an under estimator of time. All right, so what you do is you pick a task. Well, ideally, you do this with a bunch of different tasks in different areas of your life. But if that feels like too much, that's okay. Just pick one thing. Okay, let's pick unloading the dishwasher. So you make a guess at how long it'll take you to unload the dishwasher. The then like start a timer and unload it at your regular speed but no rushing here, just regular speed. And then you remember to stop the timer. This is where I always get hung up and check the time was your guests over or under the actual time it took you, and by how much it can really help to be scientific about this. So if you can get yourself to time other tasks, I really encourage you to do it. But if not, just try to pay attention to whether you seem to run out of time or have time left over. It can also help to pay attention to what kind of tasks seem to take longer than you think they will. For example, tasks that require deep thinking and concentration, maybe physical tasks, and enjoyable or dreaded tasks. You might experience time differently with different things. So noticing these patterns can really help. Hannah Choi 05:44Okay, so that's how we can use a BVA to test our relationship with time. And later on, I'll explain how we can use a BVA to help us prioritize and plan. Some other quick ideas for learning how you experience time, you could wear a watch with a timer function, or use a visual timer. You can find them online that they're called time timers. And those can show you the visual passing of time. And then you can see how you feel when you really see that time passing. You can also look at your phone usage data. I had a client whose jaw literally dropped when I had him look at this, he had no idea he had been spending that much time on his phone. I will never forget the look on his face the poor guy. You can also ask the people in your life that you trust to see what their opinion is about your relationship with time. I admit this can put you in a very vulnerable spot, but it might be a worthwhile exercise. Hannah Choi 06:43Okay, so now that we figured out if time is our boyfriend or not, let's learn how to prioritize. Prioritizing is extremely important if you want to be better at time management. When you learn to prioritize, you can more easily plan your day with intention. Doing this will help you find it easier to focus and be more present. As you go through your day, you'll likely be more efficient, and hopefully, you'll feel less overwhelmed by all the things you have to do. Hannah Choi 07:14Before I dive into some tools for learning how to prioritize let's take a nerdy look at the word priority. The etymology of the word priority is pretty interesting. It comes from the word prioritize, which basically means the most important thing. And up until the mid 20th century, the word had no plural, you could just have one most important thing. Over time, people began having more than one most important thing. And when we have too many most important things life can become hard to manage, it can be hard to focus and we might lose sight of what truly is important. Hannah Choi 07:56There are two great activities that can help you figure out what your most important things are, and how to make sure that you can fit them into your day. The first is the big rocks activity. You may have seen the video of the professor showing his class how you can fit more rocks, pebbles and sand into a jar if you start with the big rocks first. These rocks represent your most important things, which we plan first because as you can see, if you put the smaller things in life first, in this situation, the pebbles in the sand, you won't be able to fit your rocks. If you have no idea what I'm talking about. You can find the link to this video in the show notes. Hannah Choi 08:43Another fantastic exercise for figuring out priorities is the Eisenhower matrix. It's also known as Covey quadrants. This tool helps you figure out what things in life are urgent, not urgent, important and not important. Covey assigned quadrant numbers to the matrix. So in quadrant one, you have important and urgent tasks like studying for a test. Finishing up that presentation for your boss or signing up your child for that art class that usually fills up in minutes. In quadrant two are your important but not urgent tasks, such as exercising and spending time with your family. Quadrant three are the dreaded urgent but not important to you tasks. Phone calls that interrupt your work time emails are just things you feel like you should do because someone else asked you to do them. And then quadrant four is not urgent and not important. Doom scrolling, binge watching TV getting lost in social media. Those are all in this quadrant. Hannah Choi 09:52I could do a whole separate episode on strategies for managing the tasks within each quadrant. So unfortunately there is no way I can cover it all in today's episode. But I encourage you to try this exercise, assign the things you do all day into each quadrant and see where your priorities lie. And then check out the show notes for more ideas on how to manage them. Basically, it comes down to doing the quadrant one things, delegating the quadrant three things so that you can have more time for the quadrant two things. And quadrant four, that quadrant can actually be really helpful. If you find yourself spending a ton of time on quadrant four things, it might be your brains way of telling you it doesn't like how things are escaping to quadrant four may mean that you need to pay attention to what's going on in the other quadrants and maybe make some major shifts in your life. I've also heard of this matrix used with the qualities of productive, unproductive, necessary and unnecessary if these terms resonate with you more try this exercise using those qualities instead. Hannah Choi 11:07In addition to figuring out your priorities, there are some simple tricks you can use to prioritize and plan your day. A simple to do list with the most important task written at the top can work wonders. Some people like to start with the easy things to get the ball rolling. Usually I start with the worst thing first. Because if I don't get that worst thing out of the way, it just stares at me from my to do list with its beady little eyes and just ruins the rest of my day. Regardless of whether you start with the easy stuff, or the hard, the key is just to be realistic and not put too many things on that list. Hannah Choi 11:44You can also use that BVA I mentioned earlier when prioritizing the things you need to do in your day. When you use the BVA to time yourself, you'll then know how long things will take. And you'll know if you need to add extra time. And this will help you know when you can fit them into your day. Hannah Choi 12:03Once you know what your most important things are, how long things will take and what your relationship with time is like you can build routines into your day that are based on all this information. The more we can learn about ourselves and how we prioritize and plan, the more effective our time management will be. And we don't have to do this alone. There are tons of tools and strategies and resources out there that can support you in your quest to manage your time more effectively. Like I've said in pretty much every episode, there's no way I can cover every time management tool in this one episode. So I'll highlight a few and then I encourage you to check out the show notes for more ideas. Hannah Choi 12:46The first thing I recommend is to consider using a planner or a digital calendar if you're not already using one. Some people use them just for remembering things like dentist appointments, work schedules or other commitments like that. They can be especially useful for families or groups who are managing multiple people's schedules. Some people find planners and calendars helpful for scheduling what they'll do during their entire day. Ally, who shared her calendar strategy in our episode all about ADHD does this. She said she doesn't always follow it exactly. But she likes having it as a guide, and definitely gets more done on those days than on the days that she doesn't schedule it out. Hannah Choi 13:28Two really simple tools that can be used together are the to do list that I just mentioned, and the Pomodoro Technique as you work through that list. The Pomodoro Technique is a method of working in chunks of time. For example, you would work for 25 minutes, take a five minute break, and then go back to work. I also encourage my clients to pay attention to diminishing returns if they prefer not to use a timer. Diminishing Returns is an economic principle that can be applied here. In this situation, it means that the effort you're putting in no longer benefits you as it did when you first started the activity. So say you're reading and you realize that you have read the same line over and over again, it's probably time to take a break or switch activities. Hannah Choi 14:18There are a lot of tech options out there for supporting your time management. I am a big fan of timers and alarms. In addition to using a timer for the Pomodoro Technique, I use it to remind me of the passage of time. If I have a big project that I'm enjoying working on and I know that I need to stop at a certain point to go pick up one of my kids or attend a meeting, and I don't want to be interrupted by repeatedly checking the clock. I'll set an alarm for when I should stop working. I can then work without looking at the clock. Hannah Choi 14:51I also use calendar alerts to help myself as well. You can change the default Event Reminder to whatever works best for you. I have mine set for one hour, 30 minutes and 10 minutes, which sounds like a lot, but it really works for me. And in addition to calendar alerts, you can use digital reminders or tasks. both Apple and Google have these features. So if you're not already using them, I encourage you to check them out. And if you wear a smartwatch, you can configure it so that your calendar and task notifications pop up on your watch. This can be super helpful because you can see the notification without picking up your phone. Hannah Choi 15:31And speaking of phones, being mindful of your phone use, and keeping that in check is a big part of time management these days. Falling into the Instagram trap or getting stuck in some other Quadrant for activity is an annoyingly effective way of derailing your time management progress. Take a look at your phone usage and consider setting limits on how much time you can spend in apps that feel like time sucks. Research shows that just having your phone near you, even if you can't see it can impact your productivity. Try to experiment and leave your phone in the other room. Are you more productive and manage your time better when your phone's not around? Hannah Choi 16:10My last suggestion is to create a SMART goal for situations where you need to be very efficient with your time. If you aren't familiar with smart goals, I'll explain them for you here. SMART goals are an organized and thoughtful way of creating a system to help you reach a goal by making that goal more meaningful. Making goals more meaningful increases the chance of achieving them. SMART is an acronym and stands for specific, measurable, achievable, yet ambitious, relevant and realistic, and time bound. You thoughtfully consider each step in the process and write down details about each. First you define your specific goal. Then you determine how you will measure your progress. Then you'll describe how it's both achievable and also ambitious. Then you explain how it is relevant in your life and how it is realistic for you to attempt this goal right now. And lastly, you'll set a time goal a deadline. Once you've completed this process, you use other tools and strategies to support yourself as you work towards your goal and executive function coaching colleague of mine here at Beyond BookSmart has used SMART goals to help her clients create routines that make mornings easier. Working through a SMART goal in this situation has multiple benefits. At the most basic level, her clients have a less stressful morning, which is just a much better way to start the day. Filling out each step of the SMART goal helps our clients explore their relationship with time, and they can use it to reflect on the strategies that they're using to make their mornings more efficient. Hannah Choi 18:02Reflecting on what we're working on is critical to making lasting change. And this is my last step in learning how to master your own time management. Reflecting on your efforts helps you learn about what works and what doesn't. figuring all this out helps you fine tune the strategies that you're using. And this reflection process can look different for everyone. If you're more of a data person, the scientific thinker, you might want to track your progress using a habit tracker. You can learn about this in episode three of Focus Forward. You can take notes, or just write down your thoughts about your experience using different tools, you could revisit that BVA and retime yourself to see if things are taking a different amount of time than they used to. Hannah Choi 18:51If being scientific about it feels like too much. And that's okay, because not everyone thinks that way. You can just kind of pay attention to how you feel. Do you feel less tired at the end of the day? Because you're managing your time better? Do you notice that you're crossing off more things on your to do list? Are you arriving at meetings or appointments on time more often than you were before? Do you feel like a better friend or partner because you have more time to spend with your loved ones? There are lots of things you can notice just by paying a little more attention to how things are going for you. And once you've made some observations about your time management, you might want to tweak certain tools or add a new one or maybe even abandon a tool altogether. Or you might find that your system is working great. And then you can take yourself out for some ice cream as a reward. However you do it, do whatever is right for yourself. And that's what reflection is all about - learning about yourself and doing things the way they work for you.Hannah Choi 19:49And that is our show for today. I really hope you found some strategies in this episode that help you improve your time management skills. Even just taking a little step towards improvement will make a big difference. If you're a small business owner or entrepreneur, you know what it means to build a business from the ground up. It takes smart thinking, ingenuity, and a ton of hard work to create a successful business. Many small business owners are very protective of their vision because they know exactly where they want to take their business. Sooner or later, though, most entrepreneurs recognize that they need help to grow. They can work 80 hours a week, but in order to meet the demands of their business, it's going to take a team. You may be the type of person who does everything for themselves. You trust yourself the most, you're the one who understands your vision the most, and you're the best person to see that vision come to fruition. That's a good plan if you have a very small business that depends solely on your own efforts. There are some small businesses that can be run by one person. Your employees should be knowledgeable about your products, but they should also be ethical people who can work well with others. More than anything, you want to avoid hiring toxic people who will cause division or harm fellow employees. Billionaire and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffett, once said: We look for three things when we hire people. We look for intelligence, we look for initiative or energy, and we look for integrity. And if they don't have the latter, the first two will kill you, because if you're going to get someone without integrity, you want them lazy and dumb The importance of treating your employees well can't be underestimated. You may not be able to make your employees millionaires, but the way you treat them makes a lasting difference. In fact, how you treat your employees often affects the morale of the company more than the individual income levels. Certainly, compensating your employees well is important, but how you treat them may even be more important than high pay. In 2015, Harvard Business Review published an article called “Proof that Positive Work Cultures are More Productive.” They concluded that cut-throat, high-pressure business cultures are less effective than inclusive! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/wayne-weathersby/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wayne-weathersby/support

Top 5 Services That Will Save You TimeWorking 9-5 is not your only responsibility. When kids, pets, and staying in touch with friends begin to take away from the time you need to take care of other errands, there are services out there to help make your life easier and will save you time. Here are five great services that could be an option in order to save you time:House CleanersThe average day has little time for extra cleaning. If you find yourself putting everything off until the somewhat anticipated season of spring cleaning, then hiring a house cleaner may help save you time. Freelancer Dana McMahan wrote an article published on NBC News titled “How Hiring a House Cleaner Made Me Happy, Healthier, and More Productive,” mentioning how affordable the service is, and how the end results meant she could spend more time on the things that mattered most.Dog Poop Removal ServicesHaving a clean yard is just as important as having a clean house, yet people are more likely to let outdoor living spaces go when it comes to pet waste. By the time the house has been cleaned, there's no time to clean the yard. Luckily, there are services that specifically cater to dog poop removal that will save you time, like POOP 911! When hiring a dog poop cleaning service, owners have the freedom to choose when and where the dog poop cleaners arrive. Best of all, they never leave until every poop has been scooped.AirbnbNeed a way to save you time and money while on your next vacation? Try Airbnb. With prices much cheaper than hotels in the area, Airbnb is a safe money saving tool that will also eliminate the annoying task of waiting in line and possibly facing issues at hotel checkouts. Just search for the area, enter your check-in/check-out information and enter how many guests you have. It's that simple.House SittersAnother excellent service that will save you time is that of house sitting. Planning a vacation can become hectic when trying to figure out what all, and who all, goes where. Instead of trying to find different people to take care of your pets, water the plants, take in the mail, and worry about what might happen to your home if left unattended, find someone you trust and hire them on as a house sitter. Care.com is a great place to find sitters in your area. All your worries will be taken care of at once without all the hassle.Lawn Care SpecialistsNothing can be more time consuming than mowing the lawn or trimming the bushes. Instead of wasting an entire Saturday (sometimes leaning over into Sundays) find someone local in your area who mows grass, specializes in lawn care, and is ready to save you time. According to Homeadvisor.com rates depend on the area and how many acres you have, but these services are relatively cheap, and worth the hours of time you'll get back in the long run. When it comes to saving time, POOP 911 will always do its best to aid pet owners and help you free up hours in the day. We'll also leave your yard clean and free of dog poop. Contact POOP 911 today to schedule a service or get an estimate.

How do you go from being bullied at school, having to eat lunch alone in the bathroom, to today being a successful business owner/thought leader?I'm delighted to share this episode where I interview Cat Stancik, “The Lead Boss.” Cat said, in spite of the trauma, “I innately knew that I was meant for something bigger. I knew there was more to life than what was handed to me.” Thus begins a fabulous conversation where we lay out the steps for transformation. We talk about the concept of “too much-ness” and how that affects you. (Lots of women relate to this one.) Cat shares how she had to ‘believe it then see it.' This is a fabulous thing to model btw. We also spend time discussing how “bro marketers” can help disempower you, and Cat's way to move around it so as to talk to a heart and soul versus ego. This episode is a great one designed to show you who you have to “be” and how to think about your actions in a way to keep you moving forward.Cat Stancik, The Lead Boss, is the Founder of Action Incubator, Bestselling author of "7 Principles for a More Productive and Fulfilling Life" and creator of the Lead Boss System.Coaches and consultants turn to her when they're ready to say NO to time consuming, overly automated, bro-marketing, shake you down strategies, that leave everyone feeling less-than.They're ready to add $100k to their annual revenue and to say YES to a simple strategy that saves them time, uses their unique voice, passion, and expertise, to turn their efforts into a consistent, organic lead generating machine. Enabling the behavior you don't want is typically what leads to so much conflict or behavior that isn't what you prefer. This podcast dives deeper into this killer of accountability and gives you some practical ideas to ease the enabling in your life and as a leader. There's no such thing as a Mission Impossible to Cat Stancik, who is known for her tough love approach that gets clients into focused action so that they can get out of overwhelm and create big results with significantly less effort! She works with high achieving entrepreneurs who want to stop focusing on the glorified 6 and 7 figure marks, and finally enjoy a profitable, balanced business. Cat does this by leveraging her proprietary system, to simplify, strategize and systematize to an entirely new level. Cat is the founder of Action Incubator™, a sought-after speaker, and Bestselling Author of 7 Principles for a More Productive and Fulfilling Life. As a self-proclaimed “Education Junkie” who genuinely cares about honing her coaching skills to get her clients better and bigger results, getting an MBA wasn't enough for Cat Stancik. She's also certified by The Coaches Training Institute, the Project Management Institute, and the Leadership Circle Profile 360 Assessment. She is also a long-time member of the International Coaching Federation, where she holds her ACC. She lives in Maryland with her two daughters and her adoring husband, who showers her with chocolate and massages (if he knows what's good for him). Right-click here to download the episode to your computer!   The Notes During Cat's second pregnancy her husband made the decision to quit a “toxic” job in order to pursue his own entrepreneurial dreams. When Cat went into labor a month sooner than she expected, it threw them for a financial loop. She describes how their family managed welcoming their second baby, and she still managed to take a maternity leave from her own business, all while losing her husband's steady paycheck. Much of their balance comes from Cat's talent at simplifying steps and putting plans in place to enable her to be lazy later. [bctt tweet="“Put effort into being lazy” ~ Cat Stancik, FamilyPreneur Podcast Episode #5 " username="TheMegBrunson"] The Action Incubator is Cat's business and it's all about actions leading to profits. She helps entrepreneurs take focused action towards reaching their goals. We discuss the difference between revenues and profits. Revenue is how much your business is creating, whereas profits are how much you are actually paying yourself. A lot of it has to do with how you are investing and what you are spending your money on. She has saved clients up to $56,000/year by evaluating the way clients invest. [bctt tweet="“The secret in my sauce is accountability and tough love.” ~ Cat Stancik, FamilyPreneur Podcast Episode #5 " username="TheMegBrunson"] Cat recommends setting quarterly goals (as opposed to annual goals) and recommends that each quarter has one goal, one strategy, and one metric to measure that by. 90 days is just the right amount of time to make it feel possible, and give you enough pressure to put you into action. The goal should be uncomfortable enough that you want to work towards it, and work hard at it - but also within the realm of possibilities. [bctt tweet="“Failing is part of success…. It's not how you fail, it's how you get back up” ~ Cat Stancik, FamilyPreneur Podcast Episode #5 " username="TheMegBrunson"] Most of the information that you need to increase your profits is out there - but working with a coach provides accountability and helps you reach your goals faster. Her Branding is on point. Cat incorporates her personality and a love of movies into her brand and website. It's fun, unique, personal, and amazingly well done. As she says in the interview: even if you have no interest in working with her, you should totally check it out! Then, over the course of the next few weeks, you'll have the opportunity to listen to their full interviews in their entirety! Right-click here to download the episode to your computer! First, I'd like to introduce Angela Ferrari. Angela Ferrari is an artist, children's book author and illustrator based in Portland Maine. She is the creator and host of the Story Spectacular podcast. Angela grew up in the mountains of western Maine. Living in a rural setting, she developed a talent for finding creative ways to play and captivate her imagination. She has since expanded her artistic endeavors, writing and illustrating three children's books. Most recently Angela has launched Story Spectacular, a children's story podcast featuring original stories and classic retellings. #1 - Just go for it! - Angela Ferrari I would say that whatever you have inside you, whatever story you have to tell or creative venture you have, just go for it. I mean there's no excuse nowadays with all of the advantages we have with technology. You can not only, you know, write a book or make your own website. Not only do you have the tools to pursue, but you also have the tools to promote. Angela hit the nail on the head. Technology has made it easier than ever to monetize our passions. With the internet, we can create our storefront via a website, leverage social media for affordable marketing solutions, and research just about any question we have. Now, let's hear from Micala. Micala Quinn is a wife, mom, teacher, lifelong learner and founder of The Live Free Mama Movement. She helps moms launch their freelance business using the skills they already have so that they can have more freedom, flexibility, and financial stability to be the mom they want to be! Hi Micala, what advice do you have for new entrepreneurs? #2 - Done, Not Perfect - Micala Quinn Just one thing, and this is something that I follow and it's actually up on my wall. I'm in my office right now and I wanted this to be filled with inspirational and like happy thoughts. One of the phrases that I have been hearing from Dana Malstaff - it comes up in like all of her stuff on her Podcast and her group, and the Boss Mom retreat I went to. It's this idea of “done not perfect.” So if you're starting out and you are launching your freelance business - whatever services you are going to offer - just start! Get it out there. You don't have to have a website. You don't have to have a business Page. You just have to kind of have that clarity of what you're offering, and start telling people. That's great advice, Micala. It's easy to get overwhelmed with all of the things we think we need to do before we launch a business. But it's important to remember that you don't need to be perfect right out of the gate. You should not compare yourself to businesses who have been established for years. Everyone has to start somewhere and you dont need all the things right out out the gate. Focus on one thing at a time, and allow yourself to grow from there. Stacy Brookman has a great piece of advice to add. Stacy Brookman is a Resilience and Life Storytelling Expert and produces the Real Life Resilience podcast. Her mission is to tell stories of recovery from life's most difficult trauma and provide tools for resiliency for kids and adults. Hi Stacy, what is your top piece of advice? #3 - Start Small - Stacy Brookman Start small. You don't have to quit your job. I haven't yet quit my corporate job. I'm hoping to this next upcoming year. But you know, just go ahead and start. Start small. Make a lot of mistakes. That's okay. Make the mistakes when you're small. Like, I've tried to do some Facebook Lives and YouTube Lives and it took me a while before... Took me a lot of people are saying “There's no sound!” (Oh no!) It took me a while before I got the right formula. But you do it, and do it when you're small, and you can find that time. I take a lunch. You know, a lot of people in the corporate world don't take lunches. They just work right through it. That's my time I'm going to take it. I am going to step away from my desk. I'm going to work on my business. I think that's what everybody can and should do, because the way the economy is going is that there are more freelancers, more entrepreneurs, and you're giving yourself a boost for the future. Great addition, Stacy. Mistakes and even “failures” are essential steps to success. We have to make those mistakes in order to learn and improve. As moms it can also be hard to make time for ourselves, but I love how you found a way to carve time out of your lunch break - to work on your business a little bit each day. A “side hustle” can not only provide a great escape away from the mundane corporate world - a way to pursue our passions and it sparks the possibility for financial freedom. Susie Parker is our next guest - and she also works a corporate job alongside managing her successful business. Susie is a certified Sleep Consultant and founder of Sleep Baby Love, Child Sleep Consulting. She is a “been there done that” mom of two beautiful girls who have had her deal with many sleep challenges head on. Through personalized consulting and online courses, Susie helps many exhausted families teach their babies, toddlers and preschoolers to LOVE sleep. Welcome Susie, what is your number 1 piece of advice for parents pursuing entrepreneurship? #4 - It ain't easy. But it's worth it. - Susie Parker It ain't easy, but it's worth it! So, I found a business that I actually created where I was able to start with a lower investment. I mean I didn't have to create a product or anything. I had a website and I was able to through word of mouth get my first client, so that was a pretty good opportunity. If you can find something like that, without spending a ton of investment into branding or courses, at that point, just start your business. And then once you have clients and you have money coming in, figure out where you want to invest it. Getting rich happens for a lot of people, but it doesn't happen for everyone. I think these, “make a million dollars in a year,” you'd have to have a really premium price service, and if you're selling to your mom, I don't know necessarily that that's always the best service. So, you have to really figure out where you want to go, and don't get jealous of other people's success. Yes, it's definitely worth it! There are many many entrepreneurs who work a full time job while they are building the foundations of their “side hustle.” Starting a business with as little of an investment as possible is great advice, and then once you start making money you can reinvest that into expanding and growing your business. I also love that you mentioned not getting jealous of other people's success. Focus on improving yourself continuously, and draw inspiration from others, but know that people will follow you for being you. Next, let's hear from Vicki DeLuzio. Vicki echos some of Susie's advice, and adds her own perspective to it. Vicki is a blogging and homeschooling mom of 3 living in Surprise, Arizona (a suburb of Phoenix). Her and her husband are both entrepreneurs and she often and actively involves her children in her business. Hi Vicki, thanks for joining us! What's your best advice for someone thinking of starting their own business? #5 Make Financial Plans - Vicki DeLuzio You definitely have to know that you're not going to make money right off the bat, unless you have an incredible amazing idea, the percentage of that actually happening is so low. I mean, watch Shark Tank for instance.  The people who are on Shark Tank, they have struggled for years and years, and they don't live the high life. So, realize that whatever you're starting out with, it's not going to go from zero to 60. You need to be prepared with both... especially health insurance. Look up your options for that, have savings. Have a plan in place, and know that you might have to work part time, or someone might have to work part time just make ends meet. Don't go into severe debt, because it's a hard hole to climb out of. And the stress of debt can be horrible on a family. Make sure you have a plan in place. Make sure you have a savings set aside. That would be my advice.   As I mentioned before, There are many many entrepreneurs who start their businesses alongside a full time job, which allows them to maintain the perks and benefits of full-time employment - like health insurance. Some people hope to leave their corporate jobs some day, while others are content with balancing both on a more long-term basis. In either situation, self-employment provides a safety net in case something out of your control happens with your corporate job. Next, I'd like to welcome Kiki to the show. Kiki is my 10-year-old daughter, who you met in episode #1, and I'd like to remind you about the advice she indicated she'd give to her little sister, who recently indicated an interest in starting her own business. Hi Kiki, what advice would you offer your sister - or any of your friends - if they told you that they wanted to start their own business? #6 Mentoring and Coaching - Kiki I would start telling them about my business and how my business works. And we can work a little on both of our businesses together. So I can help her and teach her most of the stuff. I think that will be pretty helpful. Like me telling her like if you want a website maybe you should do this or that. I think I can pretty much help people by doing that. So…it sounds like what you would do if your sister or a friend wanted to start a business is try to figure out a way that you could work together. So like teamwork and help them figure things out along the way so it's you know it's almost like you'd want to be a coach to them kind of like I've been a business coach to you is that right? Yeah. So you think that you would just like to be a friend and help them through their questions and their problems in the best ways that you can. Yeah I want to try and help them so, yeah. What happens if you don't know an answer than you do? Maybe I would ask my business coach since she knows a lot more than me. Kiki is really onto something - she understands, even at a young age, that it takes a village. She's able to identify that she needs help and support from other, more experienced business owners in order to grow her business - and that she can extend her knowledge and expertise to entrepreneurs who are not quite where she is yet. It's this concept of building a tribe, or forming a mastermind group, that Lisa Betts-LaCroix also explores with us. Lisa is a speaker, actor, dancer and host of the Super Power U podcast. She speaks on the future of Education, has been featured in over 100 film and television roles and, though she began dancing late in life, she holds a World Title in Pro-Am American Rhythm Ballroom Dance. Lisa's parents were both entrepreneurs, she married an entrepreneurial husband, and her experiences with education and entrepreneurship have influenced her approach on homeschooling her children. Hi Lisa, what is your number one piece of advice for entrepreneurs? #7 We need a tribe - Lisa Betts-LaCroix We need a tribe. We need connections. We need support. And one of the things I noticed in our current life is that people often feel isolated. I have the belief that it is - if you feel isolated - it is on you. It is a possibility for you and the tools are in place for you to go out and create a community for yourself. The key thing I'd say about building community and making connections with people is that it's possible for everyone to do. And the key thing is to look at what you need and what kind of support you want.  If you can scratch your own itch and meet your own need, and then bring other people into that, you probably will be both contributing greatly to people in ways that they will appreciate, and at the same time you'll synergistically be building a support network that you need for yourself. It's definitely easy to feel isolated both as a parent and as an entrepreneur. While I think in-person networking and support networks are really important, it's also important to keep in mind that technology makes it totally possible to find virtual support as well. Having a “tribe” or forming a mastermind group with other entrepreneurs who are at a similar place in their business is a great way to collaborate and find success together. Monique Parker is an academic life coach, author, and public speaker. She empowers and equips teens and young adults to experience success in school and in life, while preparing them for adulthood. Monique shares her number one piece of advice, both for parents and for teens and young adults… Welcome Monique, what advice do you have for exploring entrepreneurship? #8 Think outside of the box- Monique Parker So I am going to give two-fold because you know my heart is for the young people. That's good, give us two answers: parent-perspective and kiddo-perspective. Parent perspective would be to remember that your child is a little person. These are people that you are developing. As a parent entrepreneur, just like you would spend so much time in building your business, is your responsibility - and should be your duty, your choice, your love, and your passion to build up your young people to be a responsible adult. (I love that) For teens and young adults, I would say to walk to your own beat, do not feel like you have to be like everybody else. Give yourself grace. Give yourself love for yourself, to realize that you were innately born with special gifts to help the world. Help the masses, which in turn will benefit you and bless you. So I would say to you, as young people, to find your path, find it early, and shine brightly in that area. And do it because you want to do it, and because you love to do it, and because you love yourself enough that you want to be the best that you can be. Don't feel like you have to be in the box - Parents and teens - they don't have to be doctors and don't have to be lawyers. Find what your child is naturally gifted at and help them make a business off of that, and thrive off of that. I love Monique's perspective. Whether you have yourself or your child in mind… We all have special gifts, and those translate into marketable skills. Our paths are all going to look different because they all are beginning and ending in different places. And it's important to remember that there is no need to follow someone else's path. Even success looks differently to different people. And Sherry Bevan agrees. Sherry is a former Global Head of IT Service in an international law firm, she now runs The Confident Mother, an independent coaching practice. Sherry has been running her own business since 2012 and works as an author, coach and speaker. She specialises in helping ambitious women get clear on what they really want, then find the confidence to take action and move forward in their career or business. Hi Sherry, what is the best advice you have for parent entrepreneurs? #9 Be You - Sherry Bevan Oh, I think my number one piece of advice is the more you can be you, and be uniquely and unapologetically you, then the better things will be. Just be yourself, because nobody else can be you, in the same way as you can. That's great, Sherry. We did touch on this earlier as well. Just be you. Don't worry about the competitors in your niche - don't worry about trying to make everyone like you. As a matter of fact, it's impossible to make everyone like you! Identify your passion, build your business, and let your personality shine through. YOU are what sets your business apart from your competition. Sarah Humes dives deeper into self-reflection with her advice. Although Sarah is relatively new to the business world, she has been doing the wife and mom thing for about 13 years now. She is married to her husband David, and they and their children, bravely entered the business world with a company called In-Courage Living. Their mission? To help people do brave things---every day! #10 Identify your core values - Sarah Humes I would truly encourage anybody getting into business - parents or not parents - to make sure you know what your core values are. Knowing what you stand for, and what you believe in. I think when you go to make big changes in your life, and I know for me my business was a huge change in lifestyle -  How to run my family, how to run my household - knowing what my core values are, they give me an anchor to come back to. Just the other day, I kind of had one of those moments where I felt like the household was kind of falling apart, learning how to run a household and a business is a lot of work- but, I had my core values to come back to. And I knew that I didn't want to yell at the people in my household, because kindness is a core value in our household. And I knew that I wanted to get my household back in order, because hospitality is one of our core values.  I have those core values to come back to you and knowing what they are just always is an anchor for me. They anchor my business, they anchor my family, and they anchor me personally. Once you know what your core values are they can help give you a mission statement in your business and in your family. And they have just helped propel me along, every step of the way. Knowing that about myself has just given me purpose and I think that that is just one of the the most important things you can do. I really like that - our family doesn't have identified core values, but it's officially a project on my to-do list! The past couple pieces of advice have really focused on being you, being unique, identifying your passions and values. And once you have identified where your strengths really lie, Cat Stancik has some advice for you. Cat is known for her tough love approach that gets clients into focused action so that they can get out of overwhelm and create big results with significantly less effort! She works with high achieving entrepreneurs who want to stop focusing on the glorified 6 and 7 figure marks, and finally enjoy a profitable, balanced business. Cat is the founder of Action Incubator™, a sought-after speaker, and Bestselling Author of 7 Principles for a More Productive and Fulfilling Life. Hey Cat, can you share your number one piece of advice with us? #11 You Don't Have to Do Everything - Cat Stancik You don't have to do everything in your business. I know that especially for new entrepreneurs, you know, at  any stage of the game this is true. You do not have to do everything in your business. You get focused on the things you need to do. Stay in your brilliance. And delegate the rest of that. So, I know that's like 3 different pieces of advice but they kind of link into each other, puzzle piece wise. Ultimately, you are not supposed to do everything in your business. Stay in your swim lane. Stay in your brilliance. That's where you enjoy playing. Do that! Don't concede and do stuff that you aren't great at doing. Have someone else who is great at doing it, do it! (Outsource and delegate) Yeah baby. As entrepreneurs, and as moms, we're always trying to do it all. But, it doesn't have to be that way. It shouldn't be that way. Much in the same way as we talked about finding a tribe and masterminding, it's okay to delegate tasks to others and even outsource elements of your business. This allows you to have better focus on the things you are best at - often times you can even outsource the things you just don't like doing - and that will help you be more efficient within your business. If you've been counting, you know that there is one piece of advice left, and it comes from Hannah B. King. Hannah is an off-beat, sunshine-&-sea-lovin' mama of two, an intuitive success mentor for creative entrepreneurial mamas, and a wild travelin' gypsy at heart. She has been an avid student of some of the best spiritual teachers, thought leaders, and intuitive healers around the world for the past 15 years. She is now on a mission, creating a movement of modern day mama's, collectively inspired on their journey of radical transformation and quantum growth, guiding them to create their dream desired lifestyle on their own terms. She spends her time tromping in waterfalls with her family or camping on the beaches on her island home of Maui, HI. Hey, Hannah, what is your number one piece of advice for our listeners? #12 Surrender & Grace - Hannah B. King I feel like there's one word that I have brought with me through my journey into becoming a mama. I had a very unusual entry into motherhood, than being pregnant, giving birth, becoming a mama, and then the role of parenthood, and then now raising my business. There's one word that has always been, I think, the ultimate saving grace and that is “surrender.” We want to hold on so tight to how we think something should go. And when we let go, and when we surrender and allow things to occur - even if it's the really sucky stuff, even if it's like, “I'm miserable.” Just surrender, and allow things to occur versus the tight grip on, “It's got to be just this way.”  This can apply to everything from pregnancy, birth, motherhood, business, all the things... money, relationships, everything. We have these ideas, and we want to feel like we're in control of how they how they go. And I just think, it's the one thing that I tell everybody, which is just let go and surrender, and let things occur, and see what unfolds for you. Is it always easy? Absolutely not. But, surrender is key - to anything - to any growth that we want in our lives. So, I would say that would be the biggest number 1… One more thing, which would be to give yourself grace, and to be kind to yourself. Whether you're raising a business and you're doing an entrepreneurial endeavor, or you're raising your family - it is big work. It is hard work. And it is beautiful magical work. But it is not going to be enjoyable if we are beating ourselves up. So, give yourself kindness and love and respect. And when you're struggling with that, imagine yourself as your as your children. Imagine how you love your children. You might want to scream at them, and shake them sometimes, because they're driving you crazy. But ultimately, then you just want to hug them, and you want to love them - and that's how we have to treat ourselves. It's like the little girl, or the little boy in us, they just need love. We just need love. So be willing to. You know when you're really wanting to beat yourself up, look at yourself as if you look at your children. It's just pure love. And that will get you through everything.
