This week on Dopey - we had a very special opportunity to spend some time with Tim Kelly - a super inspirational alcoholic/drug addict in recovery. Tim and I did this talk 3 weeks ago - he was basically on his death bed. Last Friday morning Tim finally succumbed to his cancer and died. This episode allows Tim to tell his story of what its like to face death sober. It was humbling and powerful and I was extremely grateful to be able to do it. For the first time, legendary performer Roy Orbison's story as one of the most beloved rock legends will be revealed through family accounts and records. Roy Orbison is a rock and roll icon almost without peer. He is known to the world for hits like “Blue Bayou,” “You Got It,” and “Oh, Pretty Woman.” Despite these and countless other accolades—honored member of the Rock & Roll and Songwriters Halls of Fame, winner of multiple GRAMMY® awards, and recipient of the Musicians Hall of Fame’s inaugural Iconic Riff Award—Roy Orbison was just a boy from West Texas who was drawn to the guitar at the age of six. He lost his first wife in a motorcycle accident and also his two oldest sons in a fire. His career touched four decades and ended abruptly at perhaps its highest peak, when he passed away at the age of fifty-two on December 6, 1988. Still, the true story of Roy Orbison, the man, is essentially unknown to millions of fans around the world.
