Episode Notes S6E16 - Join us as we sit down with Justine Yildiz & Jeffrey Sitcov from Doors of Change. They will be talking about breaking the cycle of our homeless youths and more. Justine Yildiz, who was homeless from 12 to 16, is the most recent youth to beat the odds having survived a life of physical abuse and dealing with severe depression on the streets. Justine has herself become a true life "ROCKY STORY,” bringing hope to other homeless youth, as she graduates this past week from the College of Law in Santa Barbara as an attorney. Jeffrey Sitcov, Founder & President of Doors fo Change, remarked “We are so proud of her. With help from the community, more homeless youth can achieve their own goals and become role model's for many other teens, as proof that the cycle can be broken." Tens of thousands more youth in the U.S. were homeless in 2023 compared with 2022 as high costs of living pushed some of the most vulnerable into shelters and the street. Homelessness shot up by more than 12% in the last year. The numbers represent the sharpest increase and largest unhoused population since the federal government began tallying totals in 2007. The population of American youth experiencing unsheltered homelessness, who are particularly at risk of violence and criminalization increased, as well as the number of people living in shelters. New to streaming or looking to level up? Earlier this year, the world lost a giant. We here at ATTT HQ are big fans of artists. Artists, complicated and strange so they may seem, are the lifeblood of creativity and man-and-woman-made joy on this bleak planet of ours. In the realm of film & television, David Lynch is in the pantheon of artistic creators, especially when you consider how expertly he incorporated music in his output. Here in Top Ten Songs From The Works Of David Lynch, we're joined by longtime friend of the pod, the immaculate Matt Dinan. We had a blast going through The Master's catalog and highlighting some of our favorite Lynchian musical moments. Picks 10-6 are revealed here in Part 1. If you've never seen the trailer for Matt's indie short film After The Flesh, give it a look see:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APlUmuDuqs4And don't forget to visit the LA Frankenstein YouTube channel for general Dinan-ness:https://www.youtube.com/@LA_FrankensteinWe've lowered our prices, but not our standards over at the ATTT Patreon! Tell me you like me without saying you like me. Mixtape culture beats hookup culture any day. What are we missing? Tension. How do you build tension? Friendship. Any caveman would get it. It's the fire that needs feeding in our emotionless culture. What do you want? Warmth. So take a bunch of fake musicians' emotions and give them the meaning they could never really muster in real life. Make a mixtape that could light a fire! 90's love vs. today's dating culture is our topic after I rip through our first real hater. Baby wolf or the biggest bitch ever? We are all dogs. Thanks for the compliment, fake Chris Isaak. Nothing more toxic than wicked games, but we are looking for a cure from men like this. I get petty this episode, like Kendrick Lamar. I'm back and healthy, and the music is as tight as my pussy. It's been a rough winter. Thank you for understanding that I needed a good break from constant production. We'll get back on track next week with our regular scheduled readings. Missed you all!

The Kelly Alexander Show is very excited to welcome Juno Award-winning recording artist, actor, writer and producer Jann Arden who has released her new album called "MIXTAPE." This album takes you back to the 90's where Jann takes some classic 90's hit songs like TLC's "Waterfalls," Everything But The Girl's "Missing," Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game," and Seal's "Crazy" and given them a twist of her vocal magic. Jann talks to us about what was involved in choosing the cover songs she included on this project, what it was like for her in the 90's when her own music career took off, which artists she'd love to be on a 90's reunion tour with and much more. Enjoy the conversation and thank you for listening!

Będą też prognozy pogody a la Lynch, cukiereczek Nicolas Cage, słynna kurtka z wężowej skóry, Chris Isaak i Lana del Rey. Będzie wiele wzruszeń. A haunting reimagining of Chris Isaak's “Wicked Game,” in honour of the late David Lynch recorded for the Beta Biennial of Architecture. The release arrives as a tribute to David Lynch, featuring visuals from his recreation of the Trinity nuclear test as seen in Twin Peaks: The Return. “The Biennial originally commissioned the track, and I closed my show with it there, but it felt like the right time to finally share it with the world. David was a big influence on a lot that underpins Fantastic Twins and this is my swan song to an amazing person.” Following her acclaimed 2023 album, “Two Is Not A Number,” the great Julienne Dessagne's Fantastic Twins project continues to surprise; in this instance, transforming the original into something entirely new. This week we'll take some time away for a celebration of Americana sounds from every corner. It's a mixed bag of jazz, blues, country, rock, and everything in between in another of our free form eclectic romps here on Deeper Roots. Count on some wild swings and some quiet moments reserved for the corner booth in the show today. Aretha, Cat Power, Etta Jones and Gale Garnett are some of the female vocalists that we'll feature this morning. We'll also visit that ‘boulevard of broken dreams' with Esquivel, some lighter instrumentals from Ethel Smith and Herb Alpert; classic softer side Americana from Chris Isaak and Pokey LaFarge and the polar opposite from Creedence and BB King. What a way to blast on into 2025. Join Dave Stroud as he begins yet another year with the promise of doing the right thing...always.

Do you feel like the direction of your life is not going the way you want it? Are you tired of other people dictating your actions? Do you just not want to do something? Well, say the words "That's not gonna work for me, brother" and exert your creative control! It's a power not only seen in pro wrestling, but all avenues of entertainment. On this episode, Andrew and first-time guest Paul Wedding focus on the music topic most relatable to creative control: singer-songwriters. They "control the creative," so to speak: writing, performing, and sometimes even producing their own songs. Artists played include Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, The Mountain Goats, St. Vincent, John Prine, Lissie, Colter Wall, Peter Gabriel, Jenny Lewis, Chris Isaak, and many more. A hugely successful song that was only coincidentally perfect for a movie, and a serious cover that knew where not to take the original too seriously. Wicked Game, originally by Chris Isaak, covered by Daisy Gray. Outro music is Threads by Portishead.
El amigo secreto y Rafael Panadero se atreven con los primeros acordes de una de las canciones de Chris Isaak más recordadas. Al ritmo de 'Baby Did A Bad Thing (Eyes Wide Shout)' empezamos la mañana.
In this episode of 'Seeing Them Live,' Charles explores the multifaceted career of Ken Reid, a Boston-based comedian, former punk band member, and podcast host. Ken reflects on his diverse experiences, from his early days in the 90s punk band '30 Seconds Over Tokyo' to his extensive comedy career, which includes two comedy albums and a successful podcast 'TV Guidance Counselor.'He humorously shares early concert anecdotes, including winning tickets through radio contests and memorable shows like the Aerosmith concert and a unique collaboration between David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails. The discussion reveals Ken's passion for live performances and his impact on the entertainment industry over two decades, underscoring his transition from music to comedy and podcasting. Prompted by a story Charles shares where Michael Stipe asked Charles for his Batman shirt after an REM show, Ken and Charles do a deep dive into the portrayal of Joker by Cesar Romero in the original Batman series. They explore Romero's unique take on the character, the impact it had on the show's success, and how it influenced perceptions of the Joker in pop culture. The episode also dives into remarkable concert stories, such as The Descendants' comeback tour and intense punk shows at Boston's Rathskeller, portrayed through vivid recollections of chaotic and energetic performances. Additionally, the hosts and Ken discuss the evolving concert culture, contrasting the violent punk shows of the past with today's more positive festival atmosphere. This engaging narrative captures the spirit of live music and the raw energy of punk rock, while showcasing Ken Reid's journey from punk singer to a successful comedian and podcast host with over 700 episodes of 'TV Guidance Counselor.' The rise and fall of the one-hit Wonders is packed with chart-topping performances and is a platinum record in our books! This week we're fangirling over 1996's “That Thing You Do”, with Tom Hanks doing triple duty as director, writer and co-star, Steve Zahn running away with the movie, Tom Everett Scott appreciating jazz, Charlize Theron, Obba Babatunde, Rita Wilson, Alex Rocco, Chris Isaak, Kevin Pollack and even Bryan Cranston making a meal out of a cameo. At the heart of it all is Liv Tyler's Faye, that brilliant soundtrack, and the continually missed opportunity to adapt this as a musical. In this episode of Tuna On Toast, Stryker chats with Abigail Morris, frontwoman of The Last Dinner Party. This U.K. band has quickly become popular all over the globe thanks to songs like "Sinner" and "Nothing Matters", and Abigail tells Stryker all about their rise in fame. The Last Dinner Party only played a handful of shows before getting offered a record deal, and it's been a whirlwind since then. Their debut album, 'Prelude to Ecstacy,' came out earlier this year, and Abigail tells Stryker all about recording it with producer James Ford. Stryker was lucky enough to catch The Last Dinner Party's first Los Angeles show in 2023, and Abigail shares with him her feelings about LA. There's also a new album from The Last Dinner Party, 'Prelude to Ecstasy: Acoustics and Covers.' Abigail explains why the band chose to cover such notable songs as Sparks' "This Town Ain't Big Enough for the Both of Us" and Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game." Abigail also reveals the two artists she dreams of collaborating with -- spoiler alert, it's Chappell Roan and Nick Cave! Subscribe to Tuna On Toast, follow @TedStryker and @Tunaontoast on socials, and thanks (as always) for listening to the show!

Gemma Hayes, from Tipperary and now living in West Cork, released her sixth studio album Blind Faith on September 27. It's her first album in 10 years - Gemma says she has reasons for the break: she simply lost the urge to write and was busy raising two children. We talk about all that - how she literally locked away her guitars and subsequently lost confidence in her ability to make music - in this interview. Produced by Hayes with Karl Odlum, David Odlum and Brian Casey from Wavefield Recording Studio in Clonakilty, Blind Faith features Lisa Hannigan on backing vocals on ‘Eye For An Eye' and ‘Feed The Flames', which she also co-wrote, while Paul Noonan duets with Gemma on ‘Another Love'. --- From the press release: The youngest of eight children raised in the small village of Ballyporeen, Co Tipperary, Gemma Hayes' introduced herself to the world with her 2002 debut Night On My Side. With its deft production, ambitious arrangements and Hayes' dreamy, rock-leaning vocal delivery, the album was a critical and commercial success and was nominated for the Mercury Prize (now known as the Choice Music Prize). Since then, she has released four critically acclaimed studio albums and a limited-edition live album, while her music is constantly in demand for film and TV placements. Her version of Chris Isaak's 'Wicked Game', recorded for the US TV series Pretty Little Liars, now has over 24 million streams on Spotify alone, while she recently contributed to the soundtrack of the film adaptation of Roddy Doyle's Greyhound of a Girl. Then, scream queens Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens, and Michelle Bauer are a group of nerdy sorority girls who are transformed into sexed-up demons in Nightmare Sisters from 1987. And finally, John Waters riffs on all the sexual perversions he learned about online with Tracey Ullman, Johnny Knoxville, Selma Blair and Chris Isaak in 2004's A Dirty Shame. All this plus Sean's lava lamp experience, Kevin's adventures at the drive-in, pizza chat, Russ Meyer news, Wolfman thoughts and so much more!LISTEN NOW!:MP3 Direct DonloydAlso, if you like the show, please take a minute and subscribe and/or comment on us on iTunes, Stitcher, Blubrry or Podfeed.net. And we journey into the unknown. But what will they be singing there to greet us? After listening and watching Over the Garden Wall, it's still hard to explain. The Cartoon Network mini-series, turned cult classic to straight classic in a few short years, was a longing, autumnal elegy and tapestry of misremembered pasts. Flapper girls giggling along to shape note choirs, beastial operas ringing out over a jukebox, Chris Isaak smirking in the background. And The Blasting Company were our maestros, giddily skipping through time. So listen to our interview with them and see why Over Garden the Wall was the best of the 10s.

Send us a Text Message. In this episode the fellas dream their way back to 1963 and stare in disbelief (and delight) as the legendary Roy Orbison upstages the Beatles not once but twice with his top ten hit "In Dreams." Little did Roy know that as Orbi-mania faded that the Candy Colored Clown was sound asleep aboard the HSFM mothership, existing in a state of suspended animation for 23 years, only to be awoken by illustrious film director David Lynch. Lynch proceeded to revive not only the sandman but Roy's career as well. Join the boyz as they examine the unlikely trajectory of "In Dreams" and tip their sleeping caps to Roy's undeniable influence across the musical spectrum, including such diverse acts as Van Halen, Chris Isaak, Morrissey and U2.Songs:The Imperial March - John WilliamsRound Midnight - Miles DavisThe Bird - Charlie ParkerJohnny B. Nicole talks about the difference between creation and nervous activity and how hard it is to distinguish between the two. We also talk about procrastination, Elvis Costello, the need to let ideas simmer, collaborating on a show, making an album, the meaning of music, the tricks to productivity, and the joy of baby steps. Bio: For two decades, Nicole Atkins has created her own brand of spectral American rock & roll. She's an old-school torch singer for the modern world, funneling her award-winning songwriting chops and genre-spanning influences — including psychedelic rock, Muscle Shoals soul, the pop grandeur of Roy Orbison, and the dark drama of Nick Cave — into six albums that have earned a global audience. Regularly featured on year-end "best of" lists by Rolling Stone, NPR, and The New York Times, Atkins has collaborated with artists from across the musical spectrum, including David Byrne, Chris Isaak, Spoon, Elvis Costello, Tommy Stinson, and the Old 97's. The title track of her major-label debut album won The ASCAP Foundation Sammy Cahn Award, and her songs have appeared in prime-time TV shows like Dexter, national ad campaigns for American Express, and on the Billboard charts, with tracks like "Domino" becoming Top 40 AAA hits. A road warrior who has performed everywhere from Carnegie Hall to Late Night With David Letterman, Atkins is also a professional illustrator and painter whose work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal and No Depression.
A Dutch South African, Musetta Vander was raised without that most basic of modern conveniences--television! Radio programming, childhood books and weekend trips to the drive-in introduced her to the magical world of movies. It was not until the mid-'70s that South Africa finally got television, and the big black box in the family living room "miraculously" sprang to life. However, as the daughter of a ballet teacher, Musetta was no stranger to the entertainment world and debuted on stage at the age of four. Shortly after her arrival, she became part of the very world she used to host, appearing as the "dream girl" in more than 20 music videos for such top recording artists as Rod Stewart, Amy Grant, Tina Turner, Elton John and Chris Isaak. It was her critically acclaimed stage performance in the original South African play "Soweto's Burning", about the trials of an interracial friendship in that racially segregated country, that provided her transition to the big screen. Musetta has since performed in numerous feature films, including collaborating with her husband on Under the Hula Moon and Gunshy. She has also worked alongside such screen veterans as Kevin Kline, Kenneth Branagh and Will Smith in Wild Wild West, George Clooney and John Turturro in O Brother, Where Art Thou? and John Hurt and Louis Gossett Jr. in Monolith. She's also added a slew of television credits to her arsenal, including guest appearances on the hit shows Star Trek: Voyager, Frasier, Xena, Babylon 5, Highlander, Stargate SG-1 and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
