3.23 Financially Free at Thirty Three w/ Guest Andrew Logan Andrew and I talk about choices, about habits, about financial and life maths, and so much more in today's episode! Andrew shares his story of going from a very "successful" (by most people's standard) career, to choosing into things that weren't easy, but that would pay off in the long run. What have you done that you are glad you did years later? Will what you're doing now pay you in 10 years? Or will you be paying for it in 10 years? We talk a lot about perceptions of money and how at the end of the day, money is a magnifier, it allows people to do more of what they would be doing if they didn't have money. We go deep on the things I mentioned already, habits, choices, and the maths of life. How have you been able to use money to magnify who you are? What habits are you building now for your future self to enjoy the fruits of? Be sure to listen to today's episode and check out Andrew's website to connect with him and learn more about how you can become financially free. Remember, you can rewrite your stars and choose the life you want tomorrow, today; and once you do the work, you'll reap the rewards! Today's Sponsor: Starlight Mentoring, https://www.starlightmentoring.com/ Guest's Bio: After graduating from University as a Physiotherapist in 2004, Andrew Logan was following the traditional path – get a good job, progress into small business, buy some investment properties, retire with a nice nest egg. But the further he was going down the path, the more he started to question its viability. The traditional path was a well-trodden path, but not one that would provide a lifestyle of financial freedom and travel. This began a decade long search for a way out of the rat race, eventually hitting his goal of being Financially Free at 33. In Talene Monahon's new play Jane Anger, a narcissistic William Shakespeare is wrestling with writers' block while working on King Lear. When Will's former flame Jane Anger shows up, he knows she can help him finish the play. But Jane wants something in return. She needs Will's help to publish a pamphlet she's written that calls out sexist male playwrights for the wrongs they've done to women everywhere. That pamphlet is a real historical document: “Jane Anger: Her Protection for Women,” published in 1589. The true identity of the historical Jane Anger is still unknown. Monahon has taken that historical blank page and written on it a revenge farce that's savagely funny, comically violent, and seriously outraged. It manages to take in present-day concerns like #MeToo and the pandemic, and makes room for ecstatically silly bathroom humor. Jane Anger is onstage through January 8 at the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, DC. We talk to Monahon, who also plays Anne Hathaway in the show, about how she discovered Jane Anger's pamphlet, her depiction of Shakespeare, and more. She is interviewed by Barbara Bogaev. This year's proxy voting season brought a clear message: Investors want to see greater ambition on climate change. This was especially apparent within the oil and gas sector, where three large companies were mandated to do more to accelerate change. Andrew Logan, Senior Director, Oil and Gas at Ceres, joins Sustainability Leaders host Nalini Feuilloley in a discussion that recaps the recent outcomes for Big Oil during proxy voting season and what it may mean for corporates around the world. Plus, Andrew discusses why it might be a greater risk for companies to be too slow on addressing climate change than moving too quickly. You can also watch this episode on Youtube where English, Italian and Spanish subtitles are available or visit the Metralla Rosa website for more details. For more than forty years, Sue Dray has been communicating with her art in many capacities and on many levels – starting as an illustrator for pioneering feminist publications such as Spare Rib and The Women's Press, both now considered cult magazines and historical treasures, archived and faithfully preserved as study material by The British Library.Throughout the 1980s, Sue illustrated book covers for renowned authors such as Fay Weldon and Margaret Atwood, put her talents to use illustrating cookbooks and magazines such as Gay News and Gai Pied, completed a master's degree in art that led to her teaching at universities in the United States and produced some of her most personal work, inspired by her two young daughters. She has since drawn live alongside the catwalk during shows by designers such as Pam Hogg, Vivienne Westwood and Zandra Rhodes, illustrated behind the scenes for Andrew Logan‘s Alternative Miss World and appeared drawing backstage during the 2018 film 'Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist'. Her style is a combination of strong lines, painterly textures and intense, contrasting colours. Yet, despite her constant search for evolution and change, these characteristics of her artistic language have remained intact since the beginnings of her prolific career, during the golden eighties.Today Sue is regularly commissioned by magazines and designers for the drawings and sketches she creates during the unveiling of collections in all the major fashion capitals, throughout fashion season. In 2018 she was Fashion Scout‘s first resident artist for the Spring/Summer collection of London Fashion Week, during which we could see her standing in a sea of surrealism at her elegant easel, a mouth full of paintbrushes, surrounded by throngs of press photographers, all competing with her for the best images from each collection. Following an approach by Apple in 2015, she has also found time to experiment with digital drawing – a medium she has come to appreciate when working under the hectic conditions of fashion shows. Last but not least, it is impossible to ignore the extent of her teaching experience: Sue has taught in the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States and was, for eight years, course leader of the Fashion Illustration Course at The London College of Fashion. She continues to contribute to this renowned institution as a guest lecturer, nurturing future generations of fashion artists with her vibrant teaching style and a faith in the arts that exudes life, spontaneity, authenticity and innovation. And now, enjoy the interview!_____________________Related LinksSue Dray: Website | Instagram_____________________For further information about this interview, including links to anything mentioned by Sue, or to continue reading this text in Spanish, English and Italian, visit the Metralla Rosa website.Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/metrallarosa)
Last week the ESG world saw a major shakeup at one of the world's largest oil majors. Specifically, at Exxon Mobil's annual proxy meeting, shareholders voted to replace three board members with directors put forward by a small activist investor group — known as Engine No. 1. The group claimed Exxon was not moving fast enough to address climate change and that the board needed a fresh perspective to steer the company in the right direction. Shareholders have threatened for years to oust board members if companies don't move fast enough on climate change. But last week, they carried through on that threat. To better understand the implications of the vote for both Exxon and other companies, we talked with Andrew Logan, senior director of oil and gas at Ceres, which works with investors to press companies to tackle climate change. "I think this will certainly get the attention of other boards in this sector and beyond," Andrew said. "Nothing focuses the minds of a corporate director like the possibility that they might lose their job." Image credit: Getty Images
Just how realistic are the ESG goals being set each quarter by US energy producers in the face of rising pressure from investors, banks and the government to become more environmentally sustainable? The Biden administration has ushered in new climate priorities across the government, including the Environmental Protection Agency reviewing methane limits, the Federal Reserve weighing climate risks to the economy, and the Securities and Exchange Commission examining climate disclosures in public markets. We spoke with Andrew Logan, director the oil and gas program at Ceres, an investor network focused on making financial markets and companies more environmentally sustainable. He sized up President Biden's climate policy progress so far, how oil and gas producers are responding to these pressures, whether carbon capture solutions are being oversold, and what rapid decarbonization could mean for the energy sector.
Listen to hear Andrew Logan's story of how he found "The Way Out" (the title of his podcast and book) through Network Marketing. His background is in Physiotherapy and he began wondering how the average person, even with a good job like physiotherapy, could actually leverage their money to become financially free. He not only is a multi 7-figure income earner, but is a person underneath it all - much like you and I - who had a desire to have not just a good life, but a great life and actually made it happen. He now trains, mentors, and coaches people all around the world not only how to achieve financial freedom, but more importantly - how to FIRST - make money, and SECOND, how to keep it. An extremely humble, intelligent, and down-to-earth legend who will no doubt have many more appearance on this podcast. In network marketing, people love to sell ‘Financial Freedom'. But let's be honest – it's a bit of a white lie…. We sell the potential; the cars, holidays and big cheques. But we rarely talk about the next step. We show people how to make money, but not how to achieve freedom. Because wealth and freedom have nothing to do with how much money you make. It's about how much money you keep and how hard it works for you in the background. Freedom is measured in time, not dollars. Network Marketing is the ultimate side-hustle in today's world. It's the best way to earn an extra income in your spare time – bar none. But it's not Financial Freedom – yet. In this episode, I get to chat with Andrew brings 15 years of Physiotherapy experience to the practice at Absolute Health following his move to the Sunshine Coast. Washington, D.C., is covered by some of the most restricted airspace in the world, but that doesn't prevent dozens of government agencies, the military, police, hospitals and other operators from flying helicopters over the U.S. capital. On any given morning, D.C.-area residents running, biking or walking their dogs along the Potomac River are treated to (or tormented by, depending on one's point of view) to helicopters flying the route into and out of the city.On the 10th episode of Rotor Radio, Andrew Logan, founder of the Twitter handle @HelicoptersofDC, joins us to discuss all that chopper traffic and the data-gathering game he's developed to keep track of it all. He's now got more than 8,600 rotorcraft-rapt followers. Dozens of D.C.-area residents, many of them stuck gazing out of their home windows for months on end, regularly participate in "copterspotting." They spot Air Force UH-1s, Department of Energy Bell 412s, Presidential VH-3Ds and other models. Using their phones, they snap photos or take video, then upload to Twitter using the hashtag #copterspotter and the helicopter emoji, then tag a geographical location. It's a game, citizen journalism and a crowd-sourced data gathering effort all in one. Logan has plans to plug the data into an algorithm that could eventually ID helicopter models automatically, but for now it's all good fun.

It's the last show of the year, and you know what that means (at least you should if you're a fan of the show). This week on Open Sources Guelph, it's that time again for the annual movies show, as we look back at some of our favourite politically themed movies. This year, we've got a doc about the new class of politicians, a student council election, a slice of American political history, and a new film about social inequality. This Thursday, December 26, at 5 pm, Scotty Hertz and Adam A. Donaldson will discuss: Adam's #1 Pick: Election (1999). "Tracy Flick is running unopposed for this year's high school student election. But school civics teacher Jim McAllister has a different plan. Partly to establish a more democratic election, and partly to satisfy some deep personal anger toward Tracy, Jim talks popular varsity football player Paul Metzler to run for president as well. Chaos ensues." Scotty's #1 Pick: Knock Down the House (2019. "Four exceptional women mount grassroots campaigns against powerful incumbents in Knock Down the House, an inspiring look at the 2018 midterm elections that tipped the balance of power. When tragedy struck her family in the middle of the financial crisis, Bronx-born Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had to work double shifts as a bartender to save her home from foreclosure. After losing a loved one to a preventable medical condition, Amy Vilela didn't know what to do with the anger she felt about America's broken health care system. Cori Bush, a registered nurse and pastor, was drawn to the streets when the police shooting of an unarmed black man brought protests and tanks into her neighborhood. A coal miner's daughter, Paula Jean Swearengin was fed up with watching her friends and family suffer from the environmental effects of the coal industry." Adam's #2 Pick: Parasite (2019). "All unemployed, Ki-taek and his family take peculiar interest in the wealthy and glamorous Parks, as they ingratiate themselves into their lives and get entangled in an unexpected incident." Scotty's #2 Pick: Chappaquiddick (2018). "The scandal and mysterious events surrounding the tragic drowning of a young woman, as Ted Kennedy drove his car off the infamous bridge, are revealed in the new movie starring Jason Clarke as Ted Kennedy and Kate Mara as Mary Jo Kopechne. Not only did this event take the life of an aspiring political strategist and Kennedy insider, but it ultimately changed the course of presidential history forever. Through true accounts, documented in the inquest from the investigation in 1969, director John Curran and writers Andrew Logan and Taylor Allen, intimately expose the broad reach of political power, the influence of America's most celebrated family; and the vulnerability of Ted Kennedy, the youngest son, in the shadow of his family legacy." Open Sources is live on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca at 5 pm on Thursday.
As part of our special coverage of Austin Film Festival's 26th year, Les chats with Taylor Allen and Andrew Logan about creative collaboration, writing 'Chappaquiddick', and more.
Russell & Robert meet iconic British actor Sir Ian McKellen CBE at his home in East London. We have a private tour of Ian’s art collection including stunning works by L.S. Lowry, David Hockney, Andrew Logan, textile artist John Allen and an Antony Gormley cast iron figure he chose to display in the River Thames at the end of his garden! We learn about Ian’s childhood in Bolton and how his father’s natural talent for art meant Ian chose a different way to express himself on stage and screen! However his own passion for art led him to buy a work to commemorate every part he’s played around the world and he even set up an artist residency in the house next-door. Ian remembers Andy Warhol taking his photo at The Factory in 1970s New York (& buying a screen print of Mick Jagger), being painted twice by his longterm friend David Hockney and why he sees the paintings of L.S. Lowry as stage sets. We also discuss the 20 portraits of Ian at the National Portrait Gallery collection by artists as varied as Cecil Beaton, Lord Snowdon, Mary McCartney, Trevor Leighton and Clive Smith who won the BP Award from the National Portrait Gallery and was given the commission to paint McKellen for their collection. Whilst, Christian Hook painted McKellen in the final episode of Portrait Artist of the Year on TV and won the prize also! Plus, find out which legendary Hollywood actor is also a secret painter - Ian owns not one, but two, of his colourful paintings!! ‘The Good Liar’ starring Sir Ian & Dame Helen Mirren (and our very own Russell Tovey!!) is out today in UK cinemas. Andrew Logan started riding since he was 8 years old, when his father bought him a dirt bike. He took a break after a bad accident in his early 20’s but now rides his Harley Davidson motorcycle to work every day from May through December. This lead him to implement the dress code policy that anyone in the firm can wear jeans everyday they ride a motorcycle to work. In his free time, Andrew has gone on rides with clients and has even taken his bike on long road trips through Canada and the US. In this episode, Andrew and I talk about how riding his motorcycle provides him with the best therapy he could get. His 25-minute commute in the morning allows him to get his mind right for work. Sometimes, he’ll even take his bike out during lunch to be able to clear his head and get a better perspective. Early in his career, he vowed never to be what everyone considered to be the “stereotypical accountant”, so he’s known to ride his 2011 Harley Fat Bob to client meetings. Andrew finds that “…it enhances the client relationship once they realize you’re not a one-dimensional type of person.” Now that he’s the managing partner, he’s able to make sure that the firm supports everyone’s passions, because he believes “…if firms will let people do the things they’re passionate about, they’ll get paid back in spades.”

If the worst happens do you want you life support switched off? It's an intensely personal question but ultimately that decision is out of your hands - it's up to your doctors and your family to choose. One way you can try to influence their choice is through written instructions called an advanced directive or living will. But in the words of the chair of the propery section of the law society - Andrew Logan, - living wills are "not worth the paper they are written on".

On a packed show we spoke with Melbourne dining legend Matteo Pignatelli, owner of two-hatted Matteo's, about the odd spectacle of restaurant reservations being "scalped" to high bidders due to such a high demand for Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck restaurant opening in Melbourne next year. How much would you pay for concert tickets, or an expensive seat at a sporting event? That style of dining is similar, and it's no huge surprise that people are clamoring to get a table. The brilliant Philippa Sibley joined us in the studio to talk about her recent travels to New Zealand. We also spoke about the Prix Fixe menu themes for both this month and next month, including a dessert that was "accidentally vegan!"Next up we had a market report from John.To finish this week we spoke to the head chef at Melbourne dining hot spot Mamasita, Andrew Logan. We talked about how a traditionally trained skippy Aussie ends up cooking soulful Mexican food, his travels to Mexico, and the long history of Mexican cuisine. Andrew has also contributed some recipes to an amazing tome simply titled Mexico - The Cookbook. It clocks in at 700 pages and is THE word on Mexican food.
