Provide your feedback here. Anonymously send me a text message. In this episode, Mike discusses the Manitoba Court of Appeal decision R. v. Miller, 2025 MBCA 48 where police arrested a man after receiving a tip from a confidential informer, finding drugs and cash in his possession. The question to ponder was whether or not the police had the necessary grounds to make the arrest using the 3 C's — Was the information COMPELLING? Was the source CREDIBLE? And was the information CORROBORATED? Listen to learn how the Court of Appeal applied the test. You might just want to follow along to bolster your understanding in this area of law. Speculation is rife that the Deputy Prime Minister, Angela Rayner, will be privately pleased that details of her tax reform memo to Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, have been leaked to the Telegraph. Is she on manoeuvres and is she a credible candidate for the top job?AlsoThe SNP has criticised the Prime Minister's EU deal - but aren't these things that the SNP would need to agree to if they were to apply to rejoin the EU in an independent Scotland?And...Where is Labour's camera shy candidate for the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse by election? Bernard and Alex consider today's ruling from the Supreme Court in which Lord Hodge said "The unanimous decision of this court is that the terms 'woman' and 'sex' in the Equality Act 2010 refer to a biological woman and biological sex." "Successive SNP-led Scottish Governments have championed gender reform and opined on the definition of a woman - as did other parties in the Scottish Parliament. Where does this leave them, and do they need to revisit previous policies?"PLUS HAMILTON, LARKHALL AND STONEHOUSEThe By Election date has been set. What challenges will the parties face. It's a real test for Labour before the 2026 Scottish Parliament Election. Will Reform UK perform well? GRANGEMOUTHIt's a political football but is it even feasible for Governments to privatise the business?Focussing on UK, Scottish and Global politics, if you like other great political podcasts like The Rest is Politics, The News Agents, Newscast, Questions Time, Holyrood Sources, Planet Holyrood, The Stooshie, The Steamie, Scotcast, Americast etc etc then The Ponsonby and Massie Podcast could be a great show to add to your list of favourites. Bernard and Alex explain and analyse the significance of Donald Trump's international trade tariffs and how it might affect you personally in everything from the cost of goods to your pension. Donald Trump's sweeping global tariff offensive has triggered market turmoil and reignited fears of a full-blown trade war, with the FTSE 100 plummeting and central banks scrambling to respond. Trump's protectionist policies — including steep tariffs on key trading partners such as the EU, UK, China, and Vietnam — are driving up consumer prices, fuelling inflation, and risking a global recession. Despite claims of “economic patriotism”, experts argue these tariffs amount to a form of self-inflicted economic harm, unravelling decades of free trade orthodoxy. Retaliatory tariffs, rising import costs, and disrupted supply chains are hitting exporters hard, with industries from Scotch whisky to fighter jet components feeling the sting. Critics warn this tit-for-tat tariff spiral could destabilise the world economy, weaken Western alliances, and hand geopolitical leverage to China — all in pursuit of a misguided vision of industrial revival. With headlines dominated by market shocks, IMF warnings, and international backlash, Trump's trade war may be remembered as a high-stakes gamble with devastating global consequences.PLUS Scottish Conservatives keep resigning - but for contradictory reasons. Some think the party is too far to the left, others think it is too far to the right. Which is it?Scottish Greens Co-Leader, Patrick Harvie, is set to step down after 17 years. Has he been effective as a politician?Focussing on UK, Scottish and Global politics, if you like other great political podcasts like The Rest is Politics, The News Agents, Newscast, Questions Time, Holyrood Sources, Planet Holyrood, The Stooshie, The Steamie, Scotcast, Americast etc etc then The Ponsonby and Massie Podcast could be a great show to add to your list of favourites. Nelson adds, "Early-stage deals are thriving, driven by interest in AI and innovative business models. This growth is even more impressive given the macroeconomic challenges, geopolitical conflicts, and election uncertainties that have dampened investor appetite globally and a testament to the strength and adaptability of our FinTech ecosystem." Kevin Bardosh, Director and Head of Research at Collateral Global, discusses the pandemic response and the uniformity of viewpoint across the planet in what he calls a “totalising vision” of the COVID-19 pandemic response. Discussing his research that addresses both the conversations around the reaction and the social and political factors that fed into the public health response to the pandemic, Bardosh elaborates on the “industry of fear” where public health had a hand in the fearmongering that took place from 2020 onward. Discussing the need for a heterodox analysis, noting the experiences of many scientists who questioned the public policy at the time, Bardosh articulates how the public policy is tasked with making decisions based on making sense of competing interests while also taking decisions based on specific tradeoffs, a framework he maintains which was “completely tossed out the window” during the Covid-19 pandemic. Criticising the suspension of democratic norms, Bardosh observes that those who promoted lockdown policies despite their exaggeration of the dangers of the virus, their fabrications of modelled Covid deaths and who amplified the benefits of lockdown were almost all unilaterally promoted within their institutions while cementing institutional discourse on lockdown with little to no room for heterodox approaches. Bardosh carefully analyses the historical forces that buttressed institutional reactions to the pandemic, from cultural to political to philosophical notions of freedom, all while questioning what would happen were a pathogen with a higher death rate to emerge today. Focussing on his current research in “public health harm,” Bardosh elucidates how public health's unintended consequences of disruption and harm were dramatic and drastic, classifying the reaction to the 2020 pandemic as an “overreaction.” Bardosh also addresses the quite common human train where individuals in positions of power are reluctant to admit where they got it wrong, referring to the Milgram experiment. An essential adventure and life skill is the ability to be adaptable. Being adaptable allows us to adjust to change and to keep our cool when we find ourselves in adverse or stressful situations. In 2005, Wells Jones set out to retrace the path of the famous soldier and adventurer TE Lawrence - also known as Lawrence of Arabia. The goal of this trip was to prepare for an acting role.On that trip, Wells and his friend Miles went through 39 border check points, trekked through the desert by camel and dared to go where few westerners were willing to travel in the wake of 9/11. All the while they had to vigilante to avoid being kidnapped.Wells and Miles have recently released a book that they wrote based on this trip called A Line in the Sand.In this episode, Wells shares his philosophy of adventure in a candid and at times deeply personal and intense way as well as key strategies that we can use to increase our adaptability.Key TakeawaysHow we can increase our adaptability:You are More Adaptable Than you Think: All of us are already adapting to many different situations that we may take for granted.Yes, I Can Mindset: When you are faced with a situation that pushes you outside your comfort and challenge zone, and you aren't sure whether you can adapt, it can be really helpful to adopt a mindset where you say to yourself, yes I can do it. Focussing on success instead of failure, and believing in yourself can be the difference makers between adapting to new and challenging situations and potentially overcoming adversity - and giving in.Prepare to Relinquish Control: Adapting to new situations may require you to let go of control. Trying new things requires us to go against status quo bias where we may choose familiar patterns where we feel we have control. This can require us to have an open mind and simply embrace the adventure. Embrace change.Adopt an Adaptable Mindset: An adaptable mindset is one where we embrace even the difficult moments in a way that allows us to find value. Happy people find value in every moment, while unhappy people tend to go looking for problems. To adapt, we need to look for value.Guest BioWells Jones started his career as a US Navy Antarctic Pararescue Team Member. This included precision skydiving, technical training mountain/glacier/crevasse rescue, Antarctic survival, advanced to instructor.Wells went on to graduate from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. He has since worked in plays, commercials, TV series and films. His acting name is Tad Jones. In addition to acting, Wells has also worked as a producer and director. In 2005, Wells and his friend Miles Spencer set out to retrace the steps of TE Lawrence through the Middle East. Part 2 of 2. After another quick overdose of praise for the Detroit Lions(!), this begins by discussing Joe Biden's pardonfest. Focussing on the possible preemptive pass for Dr. Fauci regarding any lab leak coverup, Todd concludes that a pardon *could* be a good thing. Also, Daniel Penny's exoneration brought our disgraced BLM friends back out of their agitprop closet, just in time for Trump's inauguration. Coincidence? Or are we in for another Summer of Black Marxist Violence? Factor in Brian Thomson's public assassination, and how Little Luigi's being explained away and lionized, it's clear where we're headed. Where are the counterrevolutionaries? Will they ever set social media aside and meet the fight outside? Toddzilla's known to be skeptical! Like it? Share it! It's easy to conclude that we are a violent species. Just look at the state of the world. In a quite brilliant book, Professor Christopher Blattman argues that history books can give a misleading impression: on most days, war doesn't happen.Blattman has read everything. He has talked to the street gangs of Chicago and drug lords in Colombia. He summarises his vast knowledge with five main reasons why going to war - rathe than making peace - seems to happen. Armed (pardon the pun) with this knowledge, policy makers can get better at peace making. But, he warns, most policies are wrong, or likley to be. Grand, big theories of everything are best avoided. He urges a 'marginal' approach, perhaps best described as 'suck it and see'. Take baby steps and prepare to fail. But keep going. Small steps may mean you won't make big mistakes. It's hard to end wars but they always do. It's the terms that matter. It looks like Putin is going to win in Ukraine.Even more seriously, are China and America stuck in the same trap that drove ancient Sparta and Athens to war? That's the famous Thucydides Trap.A truly fabulous discussion. Our thanks to Shane. Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/the-other-hand-with-jim.power-and-chris.johns. Hosted on Acast. Welcome to episode 105 of Webflail and I am joined by the almighty Luke Netti! Now you've probably seen Luke floating around on the Twittersphere, but if you haven't, Luke does a lot. Websites for businesses that are looking to scale. He does brand messaging, websites, and sales funnels that help businesses grow.So note web flow is at the start of this episode. He is not just making flowery animations. He is trying to focus in as a web flower that's focused on business results. So we'll talk a little bit about that during this episode. We actually met quite recently, uh, online because, um, there's client stuff that Luke is transitioning from and transitioning to.We were talking about supporting him on that, which we might touch on during this episode, but. Although he's flying high, although he's a successful freelancer, and frankly, he's just killing it in the game. There have been some failures along the way:1) Not focusing on relationships early enough in his career2) Trying to systematize and scale too early3) Raising his prices too quickly and not doing so gradually.WEBFLAIL FREEBIES10 Step Process To Land Your First Webflow Clients: The Ultimate Guide:https://www.webflail.com/resources/10-step-process-to-land-your-first-webflow-clients-the-ultimate-guideLINKS FOR LUKE
Melisa Rollins was born to race the Leadville 100; although if you had asked her in highschool if this was true, she would have disagreed. Melisa's parents have been racing the Leadville 100 MTB since she was just a year old, so the race runs deep in her blood. She herself has started the race seven times, and crossed the finish line 7 times, including in 2024 where she won the elite women's race. Melisa also completed the Lead Challenge in 2018, a series of 5 races in Leadville including both the 100 MTB and 100 Run races. A feat that most of us find hard just to wrap our heads around! Focussing on the bike, Melisa signed with Team Twenty24 in 2021 right after racing the Leadville 100 MTB that year, with a dream that she would one day come back and win the race. Supported by her team, Melisa raced in the Life Time Grand Prix in 2022, but stepped away for the 2023 season to focus on gaining race experience on the road circuit with her team. This has paid off for Melisa in dividends as she has returned to the Grand Prix in 2024. Following her win in Leadville this year, Melisa finished 9th at Chequamegon this past weekend and plans on finishing the season strong with two more events remaining in the Grand Prix. Evacuee Cinema: Bombay and Lahore in Partition Transit, 1940–1960 (Cambridge UP, 2022) offers a new history of the partition. Based on previously unexamined archives and rare films, it investigates key questions around film production, partition and the provenance of the nation in South Asia: How did partition transform the dynamic and transcultural film industry of undivided India? What has been the relationship between Pakistani and Indian Cinema? Could the cinematic rendition of Pakistan have preceded its territorial realisation? Focussing on the unravelling of artistic and economic ties between two formerly intimate film cities of colonial India, Bombay and Lahore, this book follows their transition into the nationally discrete production centres of independent India and Pakistan. Pursuing inflections, migrations and shifts across national lines, Evacuee Cinema explains how filmmaking interpreted national danger and examines the expulsion and rehabilitation that went into the making of ‘Indian' and ‘Pakistani' cinema. Dr Salma Siddique is research faculty at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, specializing in South Asian popular cinema, Islamicate screen cultures and immigrant media. Her research has been published in Feminist Media Histories, Third Text, and Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Today we'll be talking to Maggie FNP, she's currently working part-time at a primary care office but she's looking forward to opening her own IV infusion and aesthetics clinic, Maggie has a business set up but has not yet opened her doors as she doesn't feel ready to begin seeing patients. She comes to the show looking for help with marketing, what additional services she should provide, and how to hire RNs who can take the IV infusion workload so she can focus on other services. In our conversation, we touch on an important topic, as we've talked about in other episodes, the benefits of providing services that'll be a recurring income versus ones that are a one-time use, you have to listen to your current and potential clients and offer services that cover their needs especially if these services are recurrent and will turn your patients into long term customers. Focussing on recurrent income and covering the needs of the clients in your area will ensure your business grows faster and you have satisfied customers.
I know this is a weird introduction, but the other night I watched Atlas with Jennifer Lopez. In the movie, there were AI robots. A couple of kinds. The one that saved her was the one that she had to simulate her mind with the Robot Smith. It took her all she could to do that final 100% sharing of her feelings. The key to her survival. I believe sinking with ourselves is just that. And this is where Ana's story intrigued me to how it related to finding yourself. JLo found herself through a robot asking her to fully engage her mind to help them both work together for him to help her survive. The truth is, WE need to synch with ourselves to survive. The key to our survival is knowing what is in our hearts. Ana shared her intimate story, and at that moment she said "I shared with my cousin I was bulimic. She was the first person I told" I cried. I cried because I know the emotions of "coming out".Ana turned her life around by finding what is in her heart, her passion, and her MISSION. She is now a Spiritual Coach. With the help of Reiki and Card Reading, she helps those who struggle with eating disorders to find the same path of recovery she did. And what is important is her Clients know she is speaking from the heart because she traveled that journey and recovered.Ana says it's about opening up the heart and sharing. It sounds easy, but it's not. Trust is required. It is why she opens her heart to her Clients so they know being vulnerable is the best way to be and that she can be trusted because she has been there.Ana's story is beautiful. Sad, caring, and about learning that everything happens for a reason. Her's is to serve, and help those who need to reach out and heal. The Magic In Healing. I am sure that will be a beautiful Podcast and book someday. In the interim, you can reach Ana on Instagram here... @TheMagicinHealing I appreciate Ana's honesty and her compassion for helping others recover.
