Looking at who you are and what you are doing and changing to be the person who can achieve your mission in a conscious way is the key to moving forward in a positive way and in this episode, Alex and Julie discuss the process of change that can bring you to a point where you are conscious in the decisions and actions you take as you move towards your goal and fulfil your mission in life There is great content about why as humans we do the things, we do and how as goal-driven creatures we all need to have a mission and goals that we are moving towards in life This is a hugely enjoyable thought-provoking episode that has something for everyone, listen in and hear more KEY TAKEAWAYS Until we break we think we are okay but it means we only have a limited level of self-awareness To actively change you have to recognise there is something more you can be and actively do something different You have to admit to yourself that you need help and support Getting comfortable and content means it's harder to change and if you stay still it's the same as going backwards in a world of change You need to act and take preventative steps to make sure you don't reach a point of crisis You have to have a mission that pulls you forward at all times The world changes but good leadership and management remain a constant The only thing you can control is you, it's only possible to influence others Create the mission, decide on the goals, and work out how you are going to achieve them Work out who you need to become and then work on how to influence and manage those around you We are all goal-driven creatures so make your goals something you are setting consciously Have an intention, pay it attention and you will get the outcome Nothing exists in isolation there is a reason for everything BEST MOMENTS ‘You need to step outside of your ego and say there is more to learn than you know' ‘We arrive at everything in every moment' ‘It's having a mission, creating a vision, and writing your goals' VALUABLE RESOURCES Business, Wealth and Mindset podcast series Julie Hogbin Instagram ABOUT THE GUEST Julie Hogbin I have worked with Leadership and Management teams in the Public and Private sectors for over two decades, more recently with Entrepreneurs building their own business & consistently with people who want to change their lives. Network marketing, MLM, Multi-Level Marketing, Social Marketing, Social Retail, Social Selling, there are many names for Network Marketing - at the end of the day it's a business model. A business model, but more so a vehicle. A vehicle and an opportunity to create impact, purpose, time freedom, financial abundance, personal growth, whatever it is that you want, whatever it is you're willing to work for. It is called NetWORK marketing, it involves work, it's not Netgetrichquick marketing. The beautiful thing is, you have an opportunity to be paid for whatever you ARE willing to work for. You are quite literally paid your worth. Your value based on the impact you make. And you get to decide what that is. You get to decide what you're willing to work for. No one is telling you how much your worth via a salary. Network marketing is turnkey entrepreneurship. It allows you to start a business overnight, with low startup costs, often hundreds of dollars versus hundreds of thousands to start up a typical brick and mortar business. It enables you to work to make a profit right away. It also has a system for success in place and an “upline” of mentors to help guide you through a duplicatable system. The product, shipping, customer service, corporate side, that's all done for you. You get to go be the entrepreneur. But isn't it a pyramid scheme? No it's not. Pyramid schemes are illegal. They are when you invest money, with no exchange of product, and get paid back after other people invest after you. In network marketing, you only get paid on an exchange of actual product. On the flip side, you have the opportunity to leverage yourself and your impact beyond just your network by building a team. You will be paid based on the sales volume of yourself and your team. Network marketing isn't perfect, but it is an incredible way for anyone to start a business, focus on adding value to others, growing themselves, leveraging their impact and making money along the way. If someone sent this to you, connect with them on what this opportunity could look like for you. Success in network marketing involves helping other people get what they want, and you'll have everything you ever wanted.Timestamps: [1:41] What IS network marketing exactly? [2:43] Ultimately it is a business model - it's word of mouth. [5:05] Everyone is network marketing, whether you realize it or not. [6:44] It's a vehicle into entrepreneurship. [8:36] "Help enough people get what they want, and you will have everything you'll ever need." [9:51] You are not locked in like you are with a brick and mortar. [11:50] It's a turnkey opportunity. [13:35] How network marketers get paid. [15:12] Isn't it a pyramid scheme? Our guest today is a 4th generation farmer, and he is trying to reclaim a farming operation that was lost in his family so that the operation can go into the 5th and 6th generations and beyond. Corey Strothman has an interesting story of growing up on his families farm and then his father having to stop farming independently and lease out their ground when Corey was ten years of age. For about 22 years Corey's father actually farmed the family ground for another farmer who was leasing it from them. Then, around the time that Corey was in his early 30's the opportunity arose for he and father to partner and start farming independently again. This was not as simple as it sounds. The land was there, but the equipment was not. So, a lot of outside income was going to be required to get things up and running and return the operation to the productivity that it once had. This required Corey to produce off-farm income. Today, Corey's wife works in town, he is a John Deere mechanic full-time, and he is an independent distributor of agricultural and automotive products for a company called Conklin

Leigh Stein first came on the show in the summer of 2020 to talk about her novel, Self-Care, which spoofs corporate feminism and the cult of the girl boss. Now she's back to share her observations about the publishing industry and what she's learned as a book coach, independent editor and consultant for other writers. She thinks that authors (and aspiring authors) need to be realistic about building social media platforms and crafting a personal brand. She also has a pet theory that MFA writing programs are tantamount to multi-level marketing schemes in that they don't prepare students to actually publish books as much as teach them to teach writing to yet more writing students. In 2016 Leigh cofounded the feminist literary nonprofit Out of the Binders and organized BinderCon, a conference that brought in more than 2,000 attendees. She wrote about that experience in an article out this week in LitHub and spoke with Meghan about how she went broke while leading an organization designed to empower writers. Meghan also shared her own thoughts about the changing literary landscape and why she's not as excited about publishing her work as she used to be. A video version of this conversion is up on the podcast's YouTube Channel, The Unspeakable channel. Guest Bio: Leigh Stein is a writer interested in what the internet is doing to our identities, relationships, and politics. She is the author of five books, including the critically acclaimed satirical novel Self Care (Penguin, 2020) and the poetry collection What to Miss When (Soft Skull Press, 2021). She has written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, Allure, ELLE, and The Cut.
In this RfRx session Taylor will discuss what Multi Level Marketing (pyramid schemes) are, the risks and statistics involved with MLMs, who they prey on, and how to avoid falling into one. Also, she will discuss how to deal with a family member or friend who has become involved with an MLM. MLMs disproportionately target religious people, and many of us who have left/are leaving religion likely know someone who is in an MLM. Taylor is passionate about educating the public on the dangers and predatory nature of multi-level marketing companies. MLMs target vulnerable individuals and attempt to sell them on an unachievable dream life. She runs the YouTube channel “The Antibot” - in her videos she debunks claims made by MLMs and their distributors using reputable, peer-reviewed sources. More than anything, Taylor wants to help build a world where women are truly empowered through legitimate small business ownership and entrepreneurship, and to stop the cashflow to multi-billion dollar companies that prey on and exploit the very demographic they claim to empower.
