Money in the Bank Predictions We don't necessarily discuss politics.. Just how we think we could improve them by dissolving them. Love the world, baby! "We Promised you a Great Main Event: An Unauthorized WWE History" by Bill Hanstock
Editor's note: Our sports rabbit holes return tomorrow. Wrestlemania lived up to all the expectations after reading Bill Hanstock's preview, unless you were expecting Cody Rhodes to win the main event last night. Personally, I was, until the run-ins began. That's when it became clear that WWE was going to “finish the story,” just not Cody's. This was Sami Zayn's Wrestlemania, and if you look at it from that perspective, it rules. It was still a disappointing finish, having Cody get screwed over by a guy who already had been ejected, in what was the greatest showcase of his entire career and the culmination of a long road out of and back to WWE. But, you know, that's hard times, brother. This is a public episode. If you'd like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit willetspen.substack.com/subscribe

Noel catches up with Bill Hanstock, the author of "We Promised You a Great Main Event," an unauthorized WWE history. We discuss the state of the WWE, the most important wrestler and moment of the last 40 years.
Bill Hanstock, author of 'We Promised You a Great Main Event: An Unauthorized WWE History' joins to talk Trump/WWE Hall of Fame. Plus, Vulture West Coast Editor and TV-biz expert Joe Adalian on the WWE Network/NBCU Peacock merger.
Do we need another detailed history of WWE? That's the question we couldn't stop asking while reading Bill Hanstock's otherwise entertaining We Promised You a Great Main Event, and it's what we're talking about today on Awesome Truth. Who is this book for? Is there really a chunk of the wrestling audience that wants to read about wrestling's recent past without already knowing it like the back of their hand?
Changing gears, it's time to talk some wrestling! Bill Hanstock, author of the great and comprehensive history of WWE, "We Promised You a Great Main Event," which published in October and can be found wherever you get your books. (If you can, pick a local spot!) We start with a look at Vince McMahon, the WWE and how it has maintained staying power despite some legitimately sordid events in its history. What accounts for the staying power? What has made McMahon so successful? From there, we get into some of the characters. What has made certain people - Hulk Hogan, The Rock and so on - pop? Why are they so appealing? Hanstock unpacks the infamous "Montreal Screwjob," in which McMahon undercut Bret "The Hitman" Hart, which led to his departure from WWF. We move on to viewer questions, including Bill's opinion on the most influential wrestler of the last 50 years, and the worst gimmick of all time.
Writer Bill Hanstock joins us on this week's spooky episode where we hear about the unnecessary censorship that took place in a museum, the race to track down a missing Lemur, how many cigarettes a man lit up in an internet cafe, the young child ho took a school bus for a joyride, and the man who tried to smuggle a bunch of gold in his butt Check Bill out on Twitter @sundownmotel, and get his new book 'We Promised You a Great Main Event: An Unauthorized WWE History' here: https://www.harpercollins.com/products/we-promised-you-a-great-main-event-bill-hanstock?variant=32116411629602 We are on Patreon! WWE historian Bill Hanstock, and Jeff Cesario join Adam and Bald Bryan to discuss the UK wrestling scene and the wild ending to Sunday night's Vikings v. Seahawks game. Brought to you by BetOnline, use code PodcastOne for your signup bonus today!
Adam opens today’s show ranting about what will inevitably be an insane travel day ahead of him. He also complains about his meditation app not exactly being peaceful, and getting interrupted while trying to do Tucker Carlson’s show. Later they discuss the life and death of Adam’s friend John Campion, and they chat with the Porcelain Punisher about getting some strange customer service from Apple. Before the break, the guys play a ‘Scary But True’ round of the Rotten Tomatoes Game. Adam welcomes Jimmy O. Yang back to the podcast, and the guys talk about his new movie, ‘The Opening Act’. Jimmy also discusses focusing on his writing, and the fact that production has pretty much exclusively moved to Vancouver. Gina then reads news stories about Columbus Day controversies, Twitter trying to combat the spread of misinformation, and a priest busted having a threesome at the alter of his church. As the news wraps up, Gina reads a couple more stories about marathon statistics, and the list of most searched for Halloween costumes. In the last part of the show WWE historian Bill Hanstock, and Jeff Cesario join for All Balls All Sports, and the guys discuss the UK getting into wrestling, and the ending of the Vikings-Seahawks game. This week Hal and Lindsey are joined by Bill Hanstock. He’s known for his wrestling writing in Uproxx and SBNation. But now he’s got a new project: a book about the complete and comprehensive history of WWE. Yeah. In addition to getting all the details about that, we’ll also talk about a bunch of recent wrestling programming. For one, RAW had no women’s matches. It certainly didn't make the show easier to watch, especially as the build to the Saudi show is in full swing. What did get us excited though was the debut of Humberto on Monday nights. AEW Dynamite continues to keep us entertained. One common criticism has been that each show has only one women’s match. How long are we willing to give the company the benefit of the doubt? We’ll explain. Plus, our thoughts on what they could continue to do from a production standpoint to truly stand-out from WWE and, yeah, we’ll weigh in on the Marko Stunt’s "controversy". In contrast to AEW, NXT has maybe as deep a women’s roster as they’ve had in years. Multiple stars are vying for Shayna Baszler’s women’s championship. We’ll discuss who should get the nod as number one contender and explain Roderick Strong’s cast-type in film. The Three Count Lindsey put over Emily Pratt’s article about the Daddy’s of WWE. Hal put over the Bayley’s heelish actions on twitter. Hosted byHal Lublin, Lindsey Kelk and Bill Hanstock. Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun. If you want to talk about more wrestling throughout the week be sure to join us on Facebook and @TightsFights on Twitter and Instagram. If you liked the show, please share it with your friends and be sure to leave us a quick review on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get podcasts.

Day 8: We blur the lines of reality, time, and space and practice peace on Earth and good will to men, women, chickens, bears, and Dizzy Gillespie in the 1979 TV special, “John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together.” On This Episode Mike Westfall (@fallwestmike), wooden toy soldier who somehow qualified for foreign combat despite being unable to stay in formation. Bill Hanstock (@sundownmotel), freelance editor, writer, and producer published on SBNation, UPROXX, and some old, baby poop color website called Progressive Boink. Former WWE Superstar and “Muppets Most Wanted” cast member Hornswoggle’s Tattoo Tribute to the Muppets. The Muppet Show Season 4 DVD promised at Disney’s 2009 D23 Expo, but which never came. Miss Piggy brings a sex joke, lest we forget the pilot of the Muppet Show was called “Sex and Violence.” John Denver’s linear notes for the album’s 1996 re-release cite the Muppets as an inspiration for writing “Alfie, the Christmas Tree.” “A Baby Just Like You” is one endpoint of the John Denver Christmas song emotional spectrum. The other endpoint is “Please Daddy (Don’t Get Drunk This Christmas).” A brief examination of the logistics behind Rowlf’s piano playing. John Denver’s rider absolutely included a scheduled constitutional into the woods. The only inclusion of “I Will Wait for You” sadder than Miss Piggy’s: “Futurama.” Jesus Christ has His own entry on Muppet Wiki.
