This week, we are thrilled to welcome actress, writer, improviser, and all-around hilarious and silly person Anne Gregory to the podcast! Anne has had a really interesting career, from her and Rebekka Johnson's triumphant run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, to owning the Lyric Hyperion Theater, doing about a thousand commercials, being a cast member of Punk'd (!!) and even teaching host Leonora Pitts's son Murphy improv! This is a wonderful episode if you love to laugh. And bonus for long-time listeners: Leonora cries!
Writer, director, actor and producer extraordinaire, Rebekka Johnson, joins us this week to discuss her feature directorial debut, Step Aside (Amazon Prime). We chat about the amazing cast and team behind the dance comedy, which Rebekka describes as “Best in Show meets Dance Moms”. Co-written and directed by Rebekka Johnson, BAD RABBIT begins with a deceased creature and spirals into the madness of something much more. As part of Hulu's 'Bite Size Hallowe'en', the hilarious short surprisingly also delves into the damage of abuse and psychological trauma as well. In this 1on1, we speak to Johnson about the film's tone, working with Kate Nash and discerning the villains.
Even small things are worth have long conversations about....On this episode in now it's third season we dive into the series of shorts other wise known as 'Bite-Sized Halloween' which is now streaming on Hulu for our friends to the south of us.It's a series of 21 short films from burgeoning filmmakers that get into the demented and the twisted things that we all tend to love during the month of Halloween. We had the unique pleasure of talking with 4 of these filmmakers.Nian is the tale of a Chinese American girl faces her racist bully with the help of the Nian, a mythological creature said to eat bad children. from writer/director Michelle Krusiec.Live Bait from director Andrew Laurich is a genius little affair in which the roles of angler and bait appear to be eerily reversed.Mr. Crocket from writer/director Brandon Espy takes us back to our collective childhoods as a hyperactive young boy pushes his mom over the edge by continuously playing an old VHS tape of children's television host Mr. Crocket. Finally; from the warped mind of co-writer/co-director and co-star Rebekka Johnson we get the hilariously demented world of Bad Rabbit where a timid woman finally stands up to her cruel, elderly mother with encouragement from a deranged new friend, Bad Rabbit. All are unique, all fun and all are worthy entries into this series. As we sat down with each director we talked about getting pitched to be a part of the series, inspiration for their stories, the freedom allowed inside genre film to tell a myriad of different stories and everything else in between....
As the Story Pirates begin to traverse the different underground layers of the earth, they encounter a dance party led by EDM-loving dinosaurs (Kimmy Gatewood and Rebekka Johnson). Featuring two new stories: “Snakes and People,” a story about a massive, national effort to teach snakes to talk, written by Mikayla, a 9 year old from South Africa, and “The Fish Person,” a story about the weirdest-flavored donut you've ever tried, written by an 8 year old from Arizona named Mia. This week’s guest caught the improv bug in college and hasn’t looked back since. Rebekka Johnson began her on-screen career putting her comedy skills to good use in an MTV prank show called Boiling Point. Since then she’s been a writer, producer, director, and actress---all in the name of making an audience laugh. She shares with us how creating the work she loves with her best friends and collaborators has lead her to countless opportunities to shine. From an audition opposite Kristen Wiig, to finally booking her series regular role in GLOW, her story is an example of an artist who puts in the work and doesn’t give up, even when success feels impossible. From negotiating her own contract for a pilot, to how her years of grinding and preparation has empowered her to step into her strength and be fearless in her comedy. Best known for her work in the musical comedy trio The Apple Sisters and on Netflix’s wrestling comedy GLOW, Rebekka Johnson has performed in various sketch and improv shows across the country for over 10 years, including The Neutrino Video Projects which was an official selection at the HBO U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen. She is a co creator of the award winning Apple Sisters which performed in the 2008 Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal. Rebekka voiced many characters in the upcoming Comedy Central animated series, Ugly Americans. She currently performs with Bandit, a Mainstage Harold Team at IO West and recently directed her comedy film, CONSENT. IG: @hellorebekka

We even drank some cocktails IRL, resulting in all three of us sliding deeper and deeper into our east coast accents.
Rebekka holds the honor of being on GLOW, a show that explicitly focuses on gorgeous ladies. It's like being Miss America only with more flying scissor kicks. A less fun acronym is AIDS, which kills a lot of people. Rebekka Johnson and Kimmy Gatewood star as "Stacey" and "Dawn" in the upcoming Netflix series "GLOW." The show is all about the 80's LA-based wrestling promotion Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling. It tells the story of a group of women who were cast to learn how to wrestle and appeal to a demographic that the mainstream WWF had often ignored. They tell Mike, Hal and Danielle what it was like to take their first bump, if they feel like they could work a legitimate match and whether they plan to continue wrestling in the future. GLOW begins streaming on Netflix on June 23rd.

We're back. Vacation break over, me, Joe Paulino and the rest of the Succotash crew are together again and rocking Studio P in Sausalito. Episode 7 features no guests or interviews but we DO have clips from eight comedy podcasts, two Bursts O' Durst with comedian Will Durst and Where's The Coffee?, an original tune by our musical director Scott Carvey. (Listen to this episode for information about when you can expect to hear — if our plans hold up — both Scott and his brother Dana (do the math) live in the studio in an episode in the near future!) Here's what we've got in store this time... • Burst O' Durst (x2)A double dose of political comedian Will Durst in this edition. Catch Will at his home site at http://WillDurst.com or on Twitter as @WillDurst. • The Apple SistersOne of podcasting's fastest rising shows, Kimmy Gatewood, Rebekka Johnson and Sarah Lowe are The Apple Sisters, bring their 1940's flare with a 21st century sensibility to the webwaves. Guest Jason Ritter joins them in this clip. Get more at http://TheAppleSister.com or on iTunes. • Chris Porter's General StoreComedian Chris Porter, a finalist on Season 4 of Last Comic Standing, rants a bit about obesity and wonders why people in Texas can even be fat. Load up on him at http://pantswise.com/generalstore or on iTunes. • Nobody Likes OnionsSo says host and comic Patrick Melton, who's joined by comedian Ryan Stout, who leads the discussion off into what a bad gig can be like...and can you recover? If you like what you hear, go get yourself a full helping at http://nobodylikesonions.com or iTunes. • Comedy BuffetWhat I can tell you is that the Comedy Buffet guys have a couple of dudes (Jason and Jesse) from Van Full Of Candy on their show where, in this clip, they joke about oversized food and diabetes. (What I can also tell you is that I'm a big, giant goober. In the podcast, I dress the CB boys down for not ID'ing themselves. Next time I'll read the email someone sends in all the way through. Michael Powell hosts the show, joined this time around by usual suspects Matt Bernier and Don Buley.) Have yourself a good ol' time over at http://TheComedyBuffet.com or iTunes. • Judge John HodgmanIf you don't know who John Hodgman is, you've no one to blame but yourself. He's the PC in the PC and Mac commercials. He's a correspondent on The Daily Show. And, well, he's John Hodgman! On his podcast, which is patterned much like the old People's Court on TV, he hears "legal" cases of strange and dubious merit and then rules on them. In our clip, he sounds off after hearing some letters by listeners with questions. Hear the full stories at http://maximumfun.org or iTunes. • Somebody And MeA couple of guys from Chicago, Patrick O'Rourke and Rob Gregory, welcome guests Carley Moseley and Andy Kushnir from the sketch group Jeremy. In this segment, they try to get a fix on exactly what a hipster is all about. Hear more at http://somebodyandme.com or iTunes. • The UnoffendablesComic Tom Rhodes is joined here by Lou Angelwolf and Dana Gibson along with guest John Fugelsang. In the clip we have, John talks about his religion-flavored upbringing and how it helpd to shape his early comedy. There's more in store at http://trr.libsyn.com or iTunes. • What Duvet SaidJason Duplissea and Rob Celli sliced out their own clip and sent it along, entitling it "The Breast of Duvet". In the segment, they examine a news story in which a women fended off police with gouts of her own breast milk. Tasty stuff. Want more? http://whatduvetsaid.blogspot.com or iTunes. (And if you want even more WDS, I'm hoping to have Rob Celli in the studio with me for Epi8 as my special guest co-host!) As you can see, Succotash Epi7 is stuffed with delicious podcastery. In addition, our booth announcer Bill Heywatt has a bit of a meltdown in studio (we're also featuring his unique spin on the classic drink, the Snowshoe), and we have a new commercial from our favorite sponsor, Henderson's Pants.
