Originally, a carriage house and tavern servicing stage coaches stood there from 1790 until December 1826, when it was sold to Genesee County. The carriage house still stands on the property today. The tavern serviced travelers from Batavia, NY to Warsaw, NY traveling along what is now known as US Route 20. At that point, the facility took in paupers, unwed mothers, the insane, and orphans. By the early 1950s, the facility served only as a nursing home, where it was then closed by 1972; stepping aside for a new facility in Batavia, NY. After which, the building stood empty until 1992, when it was re-opened as Carriage Village, a mall of unique shops. Since then it has transformed into a paranormal investigation hot spot and has been operating public and private ghost hunting tours, paranormal investigations, historical tours and even special events The building served as a research center into the paranormal, and hosts ghost hunts. The property was purchased by a couple interested in making money off the paranormal in late 2009 (Sharon and Jerry Coyle) and has since reopened for ghost/historical tours and special events for the entire community such as art fairs, festivals and car shows. It was also featured on Ghost Adventures on September 24, 2010. There have been sightings of a 7-foot-tall man named Roy who has been captured in many photographs. Note: No actual research is taking place here.

The History The House has direct ties to the Baker Hotel and was a Brothel supplying working girls and bootleg for the Baker at one point. Several Deaths in the house happened during this time. The house is reported to be inhabited by 9 spirits. We have intelligent haunting, residual haunting and visitations from the Baker Hotel. Perhaps the most unusual and most dominate is that of a little boy spirit that inhabits the upstairs area. The little boy that haunts the house was a disfigured child born to one of the working girls. He lived there until he was around 6. One of the owners reportedly fell in a well out back and died. He is reported to be one of the permanent guests. Several people have died on property as a result of the Flu outbreak including former owner Deborah Renfro. Many people become nauseous, some get a headache and ill upon entering the grounds. Some are visited by a malevolent spirit the next day after visiting the house. Since investigations have started, all the groups doing investigations have agreed, the house is haunted. We have class "A" EVP's, pictures, videos, ORBS, K2 sessions with intelligent conversations. Groups have had balls moved by the little boy spirit. Several have had things thrown at them, over 70 people have been scratched and two bitten. When we first visited the home we saw a green orb with our own eyes and we knew it was the real deal so we bought it. We have had things thrown at us voices heard doors slammed its a constant excitement owning the home and we have decided it should stay a paranormal investigation site. This will allow Paranormal groups to research and practice their skills in a confirmed haunted house. The house is now open weekends all year round for Paranormal Research groups to conduct investigations. @hauntedhillhousemineralwells
Legends and rumors of hauntings have surrounded this home for decades. While the house was empty, strange lights and sounds were seen and heard coming from the house. Previous occupants have experienced everything from disembodied voices, full bodied apparitions to physical contact by unseen entities. Many of their reports validate the experiences we’ve had since moving in to Graestone. We too have seen shadow people in the back stairwell, kitchen pantry and back rooms of the house. We have also heard a man whistling a tune in the basement area. There aren’t any neighbors so we couldn’t explain what we were hearing. A man has been seen walking outside of the house in the driveway and then over to the old barn area. Knocking sounds and a ringing doorbell have been heard in the library, we do not have a doorbell with a chime that sounds like that, and we couldn’t explain it. Items go missing and then mysteriously reappear in other areas. The previous owner also agrees that there is a portal on the property that exists in the house behind the basement stairs. They would sense different entities that would change the energy in the house on occasion. There is also a small cemetery that exists in the back corner of the yard near the old blacksmiths shop. It’s believed that the graves are those of the racehorses and other pets that once lived on the property. There are graves of former occupants as well. They believed the ghosts to be of the original owner Curtis Root whom was seen on several occasions. The ghost of a farmhand who identified himself as John would walk out of the closet in the dining room and talk to the children in the house. Also seen was the ghost of a young servant woman. They say she looks insane and would smile maniacally at the children in the house and would follow them around. I’ve also seen the ghost of Curtis Root’s wife Melissa on several occasions.
Beattie Mansion, known affectionately as the House on the Hill is an incredible building with a rich history. Built in 1854 by Armstrong and Eliza Beattie as their personal residence, the building originally consisted of just the east wing. Armstrong was the 1st banker in St. Joseph and was a shrewd and wealthy businessman. He was first elected mayor in 1857 and would go on to be re-elected 4 other times making him the only person to serve as mayor of St. Joseph 5 times.Armstrong died mysteriously in 1878 after a “sudden bout of cholera”. Eliza died 2 years later in 1880 and the couple left no heirs. The home was sold to the Ladies Union Benevolence Association (LUBA) and became a “Home for the Friendless” accommodating the homeless and distressed. In 1895, along with funding from a private family, the home was expanded and the west wing was built. Also in 1895 LUBA converted the home into the Memorial Home for the Aged which it served for 100 years. In 1995 LUBA, in need of more modern facilities for its residents, moved the aged home to another location and the building was temporarily used as a group home for the mentally ill and substance addicts. It was sold to the current owner in 2004 and has sat empty, with the plans to turn the building into a quaint B&B.During attempts to renovate the mansion, numerous contractors experienced paranormal activity and many refused to return. Contractors and caretakers report hearing disembodied voices, seeing shadow figures and full bodied apparition. In 2017.It seems that the most prominent spirit in the house is Eliza who lurks upstairs on the 2nd floor, guarding the hall connecting the east/west wings and she does not like males! Armstrong has also been discovered, pacing the halls, particularly in the East wing, whistling. On the 2nd floor, near the hallway connecting the 2 wings is a room housing at least 1 child spirit who has been captured yelling and laughing.
The Story Behind Kansas’s Most Haunted House Will Give You Nightmares It has been called not only the most haunted house in Kansas—but in the entire country. Built in the mid-1800s in the growing community of Atchison, the home on 508 N. Second Street has seen its fair share of owners through the years, including the family of a 6-year-old girl named Sallie, who died in the home during a botched appendicitis surgery. It wasn’t until the mid-1990s when Sallie’s story first gained both local and national attention, when then-owners Tony and Debra Pickman lived in the home and began noticing strange occurrences, including attacks on Tony, unexplained voices, and apparent burnt finger marks upon mysteriously burning candles. After extensive investigations conducted by the Kansas Paranormal Group, it was discovered that Sallie wasn’t the only ghost haunting the home, but a middle-aged woman as well (who is said to have been behind the more frightening attacks)

A Trip To This Haunted Manor In Iowa Is Not For The Faint Of Heart There are plenty of haunted places in Iowa, from haunted hotels, to houses, to theaters and even college dormitories. One of the most fascinating haunted places in Iowa is Malvern Manor in Malvern, Iowa. Malvern Manor originally started out as a hotel in the early 1800s, and then served as a nursing home and a group home for the developmentally disabled.
The first spooky encounter came shortly after the tea house opened. The women were working in the kitchen when they heard footsteps above them in the dining room. "We were sure that we had locked up," said Svoboda. "But I went to check anyway. There was no one there. But I did notice that the window was open. Now we had had the windows open and apparently forgot to close it. So I closed it. That's not strange, except later that night, a thunderstorm passed through the area, and if we had left the window open, the rain would have ruined that section of the room." The sisters had a psychic investigate the premises who learned two men and three women have remained behind. "We don't know what era they're from, but they're happy we are here," said Svoboda. Other instances that have occurred include dishwashers feeling someone tapping them on the shoulders and when they turn around no one being there, lights switching on and off, items falling off the shelves and cameras not working. "There is so much energy here that it seems to drain the juice from the batteries
