When I think of Comins Tea, I think of friendliness, expertise and integrity. This comes across in everything they do from how they communicate, the partnerships they form, the service they provide and the beautiful products they offer. Describing herself and her husband - the other half of Comins - as translators of tea, it is clear they have a connection with tea culture that is full of curiosity and intent. We all drink tea without thinking too much about it but there are many stages to the process before we hold that cup in our hand. Michelle Comins and I sit down and really get into the subject of tea. We talk about ceremony and ritual, travelling around the world visiting tree farms, the expression of a tea leaf and about having a deep purpose to business and our lives, as a whole. Michelle is poetic, honest, full of adventure and overflowing with enterprise. If you have the chance, please visit the next Tea House she opens, I have no doubt it'll be incredible. cominstea.com Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

From Astro Boy to Gundam to real-world robots like ASIMO and Pepper, Japan's fascination with robots runs deep. This week, the Krewe is joined by author, cultural commentator, & robot enthusiast Matt Alt to explore how robots became heroes instead of threats in Japanese pop culture and how those sci-fi dreams quietly shaped Japan's modern relationship with technology, AI, and everyday automation. From giant mecha and cyborg icons to robot cafés and beyond, we dig into why Japan seems so comfortable living alongside machines in an episode that's equal parts nostalgia, culture, and future tech.------ About the Krewe ------The Krewe of Japan Podcast is a weekly episodic podcast sponsored by the Japan Society of New Orleans. In episode 46, we review two expansions: The White Castle: Matcha published by Devir and Wyrmspan: Dragon Academy published by Stonemaier Games. But, first! We chat about what is bringing us joy: Yokai Septet, 12 Chip Trick, Sausage Sizzle!, and Galileo Galilei. The White Castle: Matcha introduces the tea ceremony to the game and a new means to influence the court with new members of your clan: Geishas. This includes taking actions in order to proceed along the Path of Tea; progress far enough along this path, and your Geisha will earn a spot in the Tea House, granting your clan additional influence within the court of Himeji. This expansion incorporates a suite of new game spaces, cards, player boards, and workers. However, one of the pivotal changes that Angela isn't a huge fan of is the addition of another die, bringing the total actions a player takes from three in the base game to four in a round.Wyrmspan: Dragon Academy introduces more of everything from the base game, from caverns, to dragons, to guilds, to objectives. However, the most appealing changes (in our homie opinions) are the addition of the round tracker and fledgling dragons. When a player passes out of a round, they get a choice of bonuses to take into the next round, rather than the flat 6 coins you previously got in the base game. Fret not, as there is still an option for those 6 coins if you get there early enough, but the others provide resources and one fewer coin, which may be just what you need to entice that dragon. As for the fledglings, they are a fifth type of dragon that lack any abilities from the start but can transform with enough care from your trainer (often in the form of providing different resources.) They also increase in score the more you attract to your caves. Two worthy expansions! Listen in to find out who these expansions are for and if you need to add to cart.Get to know us @ https://lnk.bio/BoardGameHomies

Cities and Memory - remixing the sounds of the world

Teahouses were once hubs of socializing, business, and leisure in towns along the Yangtze, akin to British pubs or Shanghai's 1990s eateries. At Jiaotong Teahouse, most patrons are retired local men, much like their ancestors a century ago. They trickle in around 5 a.m., chatting, playing cards, chess, or sipping tea under dim wooden beams and brick walls, with scarcely a sound from phones or devices. Some linger all day, swapping tales from near and far; others head home by noon with vegetables for lunch. Wang Di's book Teahouse vividly explores the traditional Chengdu teahouse's role in culture, politics, and society—a history and voice of ordinary people. Recorded in Chongqing by Digimonk.

First, Celestia and a voice from the past discuss a hat trick of rat stories (maybe a rat trick?). Then Ben chats with author, ghost story enthusiast and former ghost hunter Cody Polston about the historic Territorial House in Corrales, New Mexico. Cody led an investigation there, and Ben worked there as a teenage busboy, so their points of view collide as they talk about what they've heard about the venue and what they'd experienced in person. From moving chairs to lit cigarettes, people have reported strange phenomena, attributing the experiences to restless spirits, perhaps those who died on the enormous "hanging tree" out front. Built in the 1800s and converted to the Territorial House restaurant in 1903 and then later the Tea House, the building (destroyed in 2012 by a fire) was indeed the scene of a handful of murders over the years. The discussion branches off into a few things common to many ghost stories, the nature of folklore and the psychology of ghost hunting itself.

On this week's Tuesday Night Detectives on Vintage Classic Radio, we delve into two gripping cases from the golden age of mystery. First, in The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, we present “The Copper Beaches,” originally broadcast on May 7th, 1943. When a young governess named Violet Hunter takes a strange job at a secluded estate, she turns to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson for help. What begins as a peculiar curiosity soon unfolds into a sinister plot involving deception, captivity, and buried secrets within the Copper Beeches mansion. Basil Rathbone stars as the brilliant Sherlock Holmes, with Nigel Bruce as the steadfast Dr. Watson. Their chemistry brings to life Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's chilling tale, supported by an atmospheric score and rich narration from announcer Knox Manning. Then, we turn to the refined sleuthing of The Teahouse Detective in “The Edinburgh Mystery.” In the quiet ambiance of a London tearoom, the unnamed armchair detective recounts the baffling circumstances surrounding the death of a young man found at the foot of Edinburgh's Salisbury Crags. Was it suicide, an accident—or murder? Through dialogue and deduction, the Teahouse Detective pieces together the case using only newspaper reports and intellectual prowess, revealing the truth behind the seemingly simple tragedy. Based on the stories of Baroness Orczy, this dramatized adaptation features Gordon Gardner as the astute Teahouse Detective and Patricia Hughes as his curious companion. With both tales, listeners are treated to richly textured performances and intricate plotting that will leave even the most seasoned mystery lovers guessing until the very end. Tune in, settle back, and let the clues unfold on this week's Tuesday Night Detectives.
