Send us a textImagine revisiting the charming streets of Boston and the serene landscapes of Vermont through the eyes of a family on a nostalgic adventure. Our daughter chose this New England journey for her senior trip, and together, we rekindled memories while creating new ones. We kicked off our adventure with a culinary experience at James Hook, savoring lobster rolls and clam chowder, before delving into the rich history at the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum. Immersed in the colonial ambiance of Abigail's Tea House, we sampled teas reminiscent of the ones that were famously discarded into the harbor during the Boston Tea Party. Our exploration of Boston's historic sites was nothing short of a time capsule, as we wandered through interactive museums with ship replicas that transported us back in time. Despite missing the USS Constitution due to renovations, the nearby museum didn't disappoint. The North End beckoned us next, where the Paul Revere House reminded us of history's ever-evolving ticket prices. Our culinary escapade continued with mouthwatering sandwiches from Salumeria Italiana and sweet indulgences at Modern Pastry—the perfect end to a day spent wandering Boston's storied streets. The journey took a peaceful turn as we arrived in Vermont, pausing at the Vermont Country Store for a nostalgic picnic. The artistry at Simon Pearce's glassblowing workshop left us in awe, and our stay at a Vermont resort introduced us to adorable Highland cows and sustainable farming practices. We wound down our adventure in the picturesque town of Stowe, absorbing its quaint charm and nodding to its reputation as a winter sports haven. Throughout our travels, we cherished family moments, embraced historical insights, and savored delightful culinary discoveries. Join us as we share the highlights and heartfelt memories of this unforgettable trip.Support the show

It's adapted based on an article written by Laoshe 老舍(1899-1966). 老舍 is a highly influential Chinese writer and playwright known for his significant contributions to 20th-century Chinese literature. Born in Beijing, he had a deep connection with the city and its people, which is often reflected in his works. Lao She's writing is characterized by a keen sense of social observation and a subtle, often satirical, sense of humor. His works offer profound insights into the complexities of human nature and the evolving social landscapes of his time. Some of his most notable works include: "Rickshaw Boy" (骆驼祥子): This novel is one of Lao She's most celebrated works and tells the story of the struggles of a rickshaw puller in Beijing. It explores themes of poverty, ambition, and the challenges faced by the working class in the city. "Teahouse" (茶馆): A renowned play, "Teahouse" is considered a classic of modern Chinese drama. Set in a Beijing teahouse, it spans 50 years of Chinese history, offering a rich portrayal of society's transformation during that period. "Cat" (猫): This novella tells the story of a stray cat's experiences in 1930s Beijing. Through the cat's encounters with various people, it explores the complexities of human society and social hierarchies. -R&S ************************************************************ Brilliant Idea #1 If you need something rock solid in your life and someone shared this podcast with you, or you think you already subscribed on Apple Podcast/Spotify, support us by becoming a transcript member. It was top secret. But everyone in Santa Fe knew there was something going on up on the hill in the remote, desert mountains of Los Alamos in 1943. J. Robert Oppenheimer and dozens of the top scientists and thinkers in the world were sequestered away up there - fenced in, with military guard towers all around. But there was one little sanctuary down along the river where they could escape and find solace, nature, normalcy —Edith Warner's Tea House. Edith Warner's small, rustic home and her legendary flourless chocolate cake brought solace to members of the Manhattan Project as they secretly worked to build the atomic bomb - reshaping the future of modern warfare. When they weren't at the lab, there was a good chance that Robert Oppenheimer and his colleagues were at Edith's tea room, savoring the fresh vegetables she grew in her garden and the chance to disconnect from the unimaginable weight of their task. Through Edith's eyes and the civilian bystanders who witnessed this extraordinary effort we see these souls in their last mundane moments before man and god bled together forever.
