Blue Series (ages 5 and up)Copyright © 2021 by P. Haines-Ainsworth and Terence Alaric Levitt published by Winking Kat Books"Arcani and the Tree of Dreams" is an original musical story inspired by a folktale from Bolivia. It is about a boy who dreams about setting his own path in life instead of the road he is destined to travel. The boy, Arcani, falls asleep under a toborochi tree one day. When he wakes he sees a strangely dressed man standing nearby. At first, Arcani thinks the man is merely a dream - but he is not. The man calls himself 'El Vagabundo del Mundo' and explains that he is a traveling healer. The Vagabundo shares some of his healing lotions, tree bark, and knowledge with Arcani who uses them to help his mother's cough and sore hands caused by the exhausting work she does. However when Arcani uses his new knowledge to help the mayor's wife, the mayor doesn't not approve. He believes Arcani is incapable of knowing anything so important. Arcani and his mother are exiled from their village. But a poorly timed case of hiccups prompts the mayor's wife to bring them back to the village to help. The characters of "Arcani and the Tree of Dreams" are voiced by Adrian Cerrato, Carolynne Wilcox, Harry Turpin, Cassandra León, and Josh Rodriguez. Book and Lyrics by P. Haines-Ainsworth. Music by Terence Alaric Levitt. Sound Engineer: Steven Bell. Recorded at Top of the Hill Studios in Duvall, WA.
Blue Series (ages 5 and up)Copyright © 2020 by P. Haines-Ainsworth and Terence Alaric Levitt published by Winking Kat Books"The Nightingale" is adapted from Hans Christian Andersen's story by the same name about an Emperor and a plain Nightingale who become friends. Published in 1843, "The Nightingale" quickly became one of his most well-known stories. It is about an Emperor who is lonely and often sad. His trusted Counselor doesn't know what to do to cheer him up, when a servant tells him of a beautiful music box that would certainly make the Emperor happy. The Counselor presents the Emperor with the music box who is very pleased until he hears something even more beautiful - the song of the nightingale singing in his garden. With the help of the same servant girl, the Counselor finds the nightingale and brings her to the Emperor to sing for him. He is unimpressed with the plan-looking bird until she begins to sing. He tells the nightingale she must stay in the palace and sing for him always, but the nightingale refuses saying she would prefer to live in the garden where she can fly freely. The Emperor doesn't trust her and, after an argument, the nightingale flies away. The Emperor decides to go back to playing his music box, but in his anger and frustration he breaks it. He begins to cry and returns to being the lonely and desolate man he was before. The Counselor and the servant girl work together once again to see if they can mend the situation and bring about a happy ending."The Nightingale" Copyright © 2020 by Winking Kat TalesBook and lyrics by P. The Third Men Podcast is excited to present an all-new extended interview with the legendary Dex Romweber! As founder and driving force behind the powerhouse group Flat Duo Jets, Dexter and his compatriots have lead the way for a return to the honesty, energy, soulfulness and singular vision of rock and roll music in the modern era. Icons like Neko Case, The Black Keys and Cat Power cite Dex as an inspiration, and they're not alone. When a young drummer named Jack White encountered the power and fury of Flat Duo Jets, the aspiring musician was moved to return to the guitar -- and what's more, moved to find a way to spread to others the kind of passion and energy that he himself had bore witness to. Dexter and Jack would meet and collaborate several times over the years, most notably on the only Blue Series single to feature White himself so prominently. We sat down with Dexter to walk through his storied career, and to get the scoop on some exciting NEW live performances that are sure to wow listeners as he has done so well for the past 35+ years. See Dexter perform in the new LIVE AT THE CAVE series, broadcast to ticket holders on Sunday, September 20th at 7pmEST -- with subsequent new shows lined up for every third Sunday of the month! Happy New Year! Join the Third Men Podcast as we ring out the old, ring in the new and take a look back at all the music and mayhem from Third Man Records in the year 2019. This was a busy year for TMR fans, with new releases from the Blue Series, Lillie Mae, Olivia Jean, Billie Eilish (!) and, of course, the centerpiece of it all: the grand return of THE RACONTEURS. Jack, Brendan, LJ and Patrick delivered their first new album in over a decade which, with the support of a massive world tour, propelled the band to the #1 spot on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. Alongside the excitement of a new album and tour, the band debuted a new music video and a treasure trove of new interviews and insights into their third LP Help Us Stranger. In the fall, Jack White fans were also treated to not one, but TWO new three-piece solo group arrangements, featuring Daru Jones and friends of the show Dominic Davis and Ben Blackwell. We saw new vault releases, the official debut of "Jack Gray" and so much more than we could possibly hope to type here. So pop some champagne, mumble the lyrics to Auld Lang Syne and join your humble co-hosts for a New Years celebration that'll kick 2020 off to a rockin' fresh start. Cheers! Bodies in Blue Series #4 of 4. Imagine a piece of furniture, part cupboard, part chest of drawers -- decorated with patterns of hearts, pinwheels, and intricate floral imagery -- emblazoned on the front in large, bold letters the name H-A-N-N-A-H B-A-R-N-A-R-D. This chest belonged to somebody, it’s ownership screaming out from the colorful images around it, assuring a sort of immortality of the person who once owned it and whose name is ever visible on its front. This boldly constructed, colorfully decorated cupboard with the name Hannah Barnard emblazoned across the front was made in 1715 in Hadley, Massachusetts. The cupboard, and other pieces of furniture like it, were familiar to early American furniture aficionados and experts but in 1992 Laurel Thatcher Ulrich wrote “Hannah Barnard’s Cupboard: Female Property and Identity in Eighteenth Century New England” and brought the chest to a wider audience. Another town, another fighter, another story ...... it sounds kind of dull. But Big Train Red vs Blue Series is far from dull and this trip took us to Waco, Texas as MMA FanCast's Jim and Luke met with another fighter for Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. Armando "La Lumbre" Villarreal will step into the UFC octagon on Tuesday for Week 4 and seeks to leave Las Vegas with a contract in hand. Villarreal daily puts in long hours before he even gets to Blitz Sport USA to sharpen his skills as an mma fighter. His story is similar to many others in the combat sports community, with having a career away from the gym and cage. But one aspect that clearly separates him from the pack, though, are his elite skills, not to mention his relentless drive and passion for the sport. We all have dreams that sometimes come to an early demise by our own doing. Villarreal has been down that road and he's been burned before. It's a lesson he's determined not to repeat. Listen in to this episode to get closer to the fire.
The Red vs. Blue Series train rolled into New Jersey looking to find another killer. Dana White's Contender Series for Week 3 was a smash hit and all winners were awarded contracts for dominant "killer" performances. Dana says he's looking for killers. MMA FanCast's Jim and Luke think there's at least one of those for Week 4 in Stephen Regman. Nicknamed "The Predator" ..... how could you not be. And fighting out of Killer B Combat Sports, well, it all seems to be a good fit. Regman will tell you it's his time to prove just that. A well seasoned mma veteran who knows how to get the job done and keep his eye on the prize, The Predator will lay it on the line in the main event for Week 4. On a four fight winning streak ...... with all victories by way of KO/TKO ..... and knowing what the MMA FanCast crew likes to see in the cage ...... well, we're just glad to be on the outside looking in. And if you click the link, you can listen in.

Artist Tu-2 (Tu Ying-ming) and Angela Oh 108 Portraits of Compassion — The Blue Portrait Series ~Co-presented with the Institute for Art and Healing~ Join Michael Lerner in a second conversation with artist Tu-2 and his wife, attorney and Zen priest Angela Oh, about the opening of Tu-2’s show at the Commonweal Gallery and the inspiration for his work. This show is the first-ever of portraits from Tu-2’s infinite Blue Series, a series of spiritual portraits in silver pencil on blue paper that reveal the interior qualities of their subjects. Creating these portraits is an act of intense meditation, as Tu-2 works exclusively in a focused meditative state – connected to the subject’s essence, free of ego… and drawing only on the exhale. Find out more and see more artwork on Tu-2’s website. See the show at Commonweal Gallery (by appointment) through December 15, 2013. Watch a beautiful slideshow of the making of, and the inhabiting of, the exhibit at Commonweal Gallery. Tu-2 (Tu Ying-Ming) Tu-2 is a Los Angeles-based Taiwanese-born artist who has created an internationally exhibited, acclaimed body of work in fine art, photography, and film. After a decade of robust success from his Mao-ology and Timeless series, both of which garnered critical acclaim from America to Asia and Europe in the 1990s, he took a prolonged sabbatical from painting to search his soul and reset his spiritual compass. A new body of work emerged: a series of spiritual portraits in silver pencil on blue paper that reveal the interior qualities of their subjects. Creating these portraits is an act of intense meditation, as Tu-2 works exclusively in a focused meditative state – connected to the subject’s essence, free of ego… and drawing only on the exhale. The resulting works of conscious art inspire awakening, affinity, and compassion, and when viewed as a group, illustrate the infinite ways in which humanity is connected through space and time. It is a rare gift to be able to view a multimedia installation of such a large collection, due to the usual constraints of space and logistics. Angela Oh Angela is the former executive director of the Western Justice Center Foundation, a nonprofit organization that advances peaceful resolution of conflict. She has worked as an attorney, public lecturer, and teacher of Zen meditation. In 1992, Oh gained national prominence as a spokesperson and mediating force for the Asian American community during the Los Angeles riots. Thereafter, she was appointed by President Bill Clinton as one of seven Advisory Board members to the President’s Initiative on Race, which was charged with engaging the nation in a dialogue on race relations in the United States of America. Oh is also an ordained priest, Zen Buddhist—Rinzai Sect. Find out more about The New School at tns.commonweal.org.
