Griffin Warner talks betting for Friday Griffin Warner opened the latest episode of What I Bet On from Dallas, running through a Friday card that featured soccer across Spain, Italy, France and Germany, along with an early look at college basketball. He noted that the show entered the night on a two game best bet winning streak after cashing Iowa under on March 5 and Northwestern plus five against Indiana on March 11, and said the goal was to make it three in a row. In Spain, Warner broke down Deportivo Alaves as a home underdog against Villarreal and said his strongest interest was the under two and a half goals, pointing to Alaves ability to dictate tempo and turn games physical. In Italy, he discussed Torino against Parma and leaned toward a low scoring match as well, saying he preferred waiting to see Parma rise to a larger underdog price while also liking the under with the extra quarter goal. In France, he focused on Auxerre as a road underdog at Metz and said he expected a competitive match, with interest in Auxerre plus one and a half if the market moved there by kickoff. In Germany, he highlighted Borussia Monchengladbach against St. Pauli and said the under two and a quarter goals stood out most because he did not trust St. Pauli to score. Warner also promoted Pregame s Madness 2026 contest, describing it as a free college basketball competition that runs through the national title game on April 6, with prizes for the top 10 finishers based on net profit. Turning to college basketball, he opened with George Washington against Saint Louis in the Atlantic 10 and said the number showed respect for George Washington, especially with the lower seeded team already having played on the neutral court. He then looked at Ohio State against Michigan and argued that 13 points was too large, citing Ohio State s game under its belt and the possibility of a respectable close loss carrying value. In the SEC, he evaluated Kentucky against Florida and said 10 and a half points felt too high for a neutral court rivalry game, even while acknowledging Florida s strength inside. He also pointed to Wisconsin against Illinois as another game where the underdog deserved attention, saying eight points was a significant number for a Wisconsin team that had already played on site and recently beaten Purdue on the road. Warner closed by promoting the code dance20 for 20 percent off at Pregame through March 23 and made Wisconsin plus eight his best bet, saying he expected the number to fall and viewed the matchup as a close game, with an added suggestion to split the wager between the first half and the full game. Politics keeps offering us drama in place of design. We sat down with Nicholas D. Vairo to chart how the post-liberal moment slid from grand promises into a Bonapartist reality: a leader-first spectacle with no plan to build or maintain the institutions that make a society work. The core insight isn't just about ideology; it's about capacity. Professional elites still run what functions, for better and worse, because no competing class has figured out how to reproduce competence at scale. We unpack why Yarvin-style CEO fantasies and Deneen's mixed-constitution nostalgia mirror historical dead ends. The French parallels are illuminating: attempts to jury-rig monarchs and blended constitutions collapsed into Bonapartism, not renewal. That's where we are now—big talk, weak statecraft, and a movement that confuses obedience with order. Meanwhile, liberalism struggles with the deeper wound: a crisis of socialization. Without strong civil society—churches, associations, unions, schools that do more than sort—people can't generate shared meaning or stable norms. That vacuum breeds nihilism and brittle politics. We also go material. Neoliberal underinvestment hollowed America's productive base, leaving the U.S. with high labor productivity but low capital intensity and a long productivity slump ahead. Tariffs and culture war won't fix a capacity gap that took decades to create. China offers a counterexample—not as a model to copy, but as proof that disciplined investment and state competence matter more than performative revolt. On technology, we challenge fatalism: AI can de-skill or empower depending on the incentives and institutions wrapped around it. Design education for mastery and collaboration, and the tools raise the floor; design it for compliance and shortcuts, and skills atrophy.Where does that leave the left? With work to do. We argue for pro-factional, member-driven organizations that build beyond elections, tie back into unions and tenant power, and actually teach people to run things. Less content, more construction. If post-liberalism's disillusion teaches anything, it's that there's no substitute for institutions that build meaning and capacity together. If this resonates, subscribe, share with a friend who's wrestling with these questions, and leave a review telling us which institution you think we must rebuild first.Send a text Musis by Bitterlake, Used with Permission, all rights to BitterlakeSupport the showCrew:Host: C. When we think about loneliness, we don't associate it with risks comparable to smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day. But a growing body of research shows that loneliness significantly impairs physical and mental health. Loneliness is linked to a 29 percent higher risk of heart disease, a 32 percent increased risk of stroke, accelerated cognitive decline, and increased mortality. Chronic, profound loneliness triggers high inflammation, weakens the immune system, and contributes to depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders. Clinician researcher Alison Warren, DAOM, MSHS '17, PhD student, of the GW School of Medicine & Health Sciences, gave a wellness talk on loneliness and how it impacts your overall health–and ways to counteract it. An adjunct assistant professor in the SMHS, she specializes in the intersection of Integrative Medicine, neuroscience, and psychology. She is also an adjunct assistant professor in the Institute for Brain Health and Dementia in the GW Milken School of Public Health and an instructor with the Harvard Extension School. Dr. Warren's research, particularly in 2025-2026, focuses on loneliness as a significant, modifiable determinant of health and a driver of physiological damage. Her work explains that chronic social disconnection causes wear and tear across multiple systems, including immune, neuroendocrine, and cardiovascular systems. ◘ Related Links: Centers for Disease Control & Prevention's How Right Now (information and resources on loneliness and other emotions) https://www.cdc.gov/howrightnow/index.html; NIH Social Connection Toolkit https://www.nih.gov/health-information/your-healthiest-self-wellness-toolkits/social-wellness-toolkit; GW Resiliency & Well-being Center's resources page on loneliness https://rwc.smhs.gwu.edu/loneliness; Dr. Warren's slide presentation on loneliness https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/fdrc6v7kjua6y0j88og6j/UPDATED_Warren_GW-Resiliency-Center-Loneliness-1.pdf?rlkey=5fpz4h7naach2ss1anpxch7ea&st=k2k958gr&dl=0; Our Epidemic of Loneliness and Isolation 2023, The U.S. Surgeon General's Advisory on the Healing Effects of Social Connection and Community https://www.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/surgeon-general-social-connection-advisory.pdf; Warren, A. Real Madrid's stay as league leaders lasted just six short days after Matchday 25 threw in another twist in the title race. Matt Clark (@MattClark_08) and Román De Arquer (@Aeroslavee) review the action from the weekend.Osasuna have been in strong form and they continued that at El Sadar on Saturday evening, taking the lead with another Ante Budimir goal. Vini Jr ended a tumultuous week with an equalising goal, but the Madrid surge for a winner never came to pass, and it was the hosts who provided the late drama, Raúl García de Haro striking late to euphoric scenes in Pamplona. We discuss what this means for the race, and the decision to start Dani Carvajal after his lengthy absence.Barça took full advantage of the gift by dispatching a sunken Levante 3-0, with a return for Pedri and another goal for Marc Bernal and Fermín López. To round off Part One, we review Atleti's latest unpredictable showing and recap another Valencian regional derby, which was won by Villarreal. In Part Two, we analyse the partidazo at Anoeta between Real Sociedad and Real Oviedo, plus wins for Athletic and Celta, the latter courtesy of Iago Aspas. The pressure is now on Barcelona after Real Madrid climbed to the top of the table with a thumping 4-1 win over Real Sociedad on Valentine's weekend, bringing an end to Pellegrino Matarazzo's unbeaten start in Spain. Join Matt Clark (@MattClark_08) and Ben Sully (@SullyBen) as they reflect upon that contest and the other key talking points from Matchday 24. Martín Presa's relationship with Rayo fans is beyond repair, as demonstrated by the sparse attendance at Butarque for Sunday's clash with Atlético Madrid.
