In the second and final installment of our interview, Chuck Bown remembers winning the 1990 Busch Series championship, as well as the lengths to which NASCAR went to make sure the title was on the up and up.   Chuck then moved to Winston Cup with Bobby Allison in 1994 but experienced a terrible accident at Pocono that left him with impaired vision for the next several months. He pulled himself from the car while recovering, and subsequently fought the perception that he was damaged goods.   We'll then take a look at the August 16, 1990 issue of Winston Cup Scene.   Ricky Rudd wins at Watkins Glen, just ahead of a battle for second place between the brothers Bodine … Geoff and Brett. Sterling Marlin and team owner Billy Hagan are mad at Tommy Kendall after the race. Mark Martin finishes fifth on a weekend that began with a VICIOUS accident during practice that also involved Dick Trickle and Troy Beebe.   Crew members are injured for the second race in a row. There's an ad for an international driver search that eventually became the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Kim Wood Hall and her husband Terry celebrate Christmas all year long.   Also … Chuck Bown wins his sixth and final Busch Series race of 1990. Junior Johnson employees/lawyers file a protest in a garage-area cooking competition and … finally … a commentary foreshadows Rajah Carruth's truck win this weekend at Las Vegas.   NOTE: This show is not associated in any way with American City Business Journals, owner of the Scene brand.   Be sure to check out the latest and greatest stories from the world of NASCAR at dailydownforce.com!   Interested in The Scene Vault Podcast T-shirts? Ana and Eric light the fire on Wood County, a diverse county in the heart of Wisconsin offering cities like Marshfield, a major medical hub, and Wisconsin Rapids, known for its papermaking, water skiing, golf, and - more recently - competitive BMX racing, as well as beautiful, serene rural areas from farms to forest and plenty of open space for outdoor fun. They open the Cabin door for Matt McLean from Visit Marshfield and Meredith Kleker from the Wisconsin Rapids Convention & Visitors Bureau for an in-depth look at the county they both call home. One major note about Wood County is its penchant for cranberries. Not only do they produce a sizable share of Wisconsin's cranberry crop (which leads the nation and is tops among the world), Pittsville is home to the only Cranberry Program in a high school and a “Cranberry Road” Auto Tour offers people the opportunity for a colorful tour of the bogs and marshes. Pittsville is also the geographic center of the state, by the way, in case you were curious about why we say Wood County is in the heart of Wisconsin. Outdoor adventures abound in the county, from bountiful hunting areas to beautiful trails; designated areas like the Mead Wildlife Area offers opportunities for both. Powers Bluff near the center of the county is a literal standout, rising prominently among the landscape while offering winter recreation from tubing to snowboarding. Wood County is becoming more of a golf destination, from nearby Sand Valley to Lake Arrowhead. The Wisconsin River, which runs along the eastern side of the county and right through Wisconsin Rapids, is home to active water ski groups who put on popular shows in season. We dive into Wisconsin Rapids with Meredith, checking out the city's sports offerings from its Central Wisconsin BMX track to baseball games at Witter Field for Wisconsin Rapids Rafters action - and unique way they deliver beers to you! If hockey is more your sport, the Wisconsin Rapids River Kings have you covered in winter. The city's paper history is showcased in the Papermaking Museum, and one of the newer breweries in the state, Two Doors Down Brewing, is right downtown, not far from Hotel Mead, Wisconsin Rapids; own boutique hotel. Matt highlights Marsjhfield with us, including art galleries, museums, historic sites, the World's Largest Round Barn on the Central Wisconsin State Fairgrounds, and some excellent shopping up and down the city's main drag, Central Avenue. Blue Heron Brewpub is Marshfield's own brewery, and if you want to wander among some remarkable sculptures and metal art, the Jurustic Walk downtown will mesmerize. Marshfield also offers a fantastic (and free) zoo in Wildwood Park, which features an impressive display holding two Kodiak bears along with a wide variety of other animals. Wisconsin's reputation for cheese shines in Nasonville with their dairy and the very popular Dairy State Cheese Store in Rudolph, which also has the amazing Rudolph Grotto nearby and is the home of Dick Trickle and other popular race car drivers. We cover it all in this episode - make sure you cover all of Wood County to truly experience it! Wood County: https://www.woodcountywi.gov/Visit Marshfield: https://www.visitmarshfield.com/. The United States is obsessed with policing drugs and those who use them, yet the most deadly, well-studied drug in existence, nicotine, is a regulated product, legal to buy once a consumer is 21 years old. According to the WHO, tobacco, when used properly, will kill half of all people who don't stop using it. And because cigarettes are so obviously dangerous yet still widely distributed and glamorized, they hold a clue to our human condition. The story of cigarettes is the story of media. In this episode I discuss the history of tobacco advertising and what that can teach us about the history of drugs. I also discuss the roots of the Communication field of study, the power of propaganda, and methods for influencing human behavior (Freud & Bernays). Check out Mitch Zeller's Ted Talk for more about current statistics and proposed solutions to the tobacco death problem. To get an idea of what Zeller's "non-addictive cigarette" would look like, check out JAMA's "Less Addictive Cigarettes" (2019). For a great summary of Big Tobacco's history, from film to feminism, check out "The Tobacco Conspiracy" on YouTube. And for the history of Communication as a contemporary field of study, see Stephen Hartnett's piece, "Communication, Social Justice and Joyful Commitment." In the 1960s, Phillip-Morris (Marlboro) began putting ammonia into their cigarettes, allowing tobacco to be freebased and thereby reducing the quantity one needed to smoke to achieve desired effects (less tobacco required to deliver a dose of nicotine). Around the same time, manufacturers introduced the so-called "Light Cigarette," which you can read about in Anne Harding's article. To watch Dick Trickle smoke as he drives around the race track, check out YouTube.

His first car may have been a dusty barn find, but soon Jones was at the pinnacle of the NASCAR ranks in the Cup Series. As you could guess with a name like Buckshot, he got a lot of attention along the way. The Georgia boy moved to South Carolina to take lessons from a successful crew chief and his legendary father. From Darlington tips to shooting quarters, David Pearson taught the young driver some valuable lessons. Souvenir sales and on-track success were often rivaled by controversy. Keeping up with the NASCAR rap-sheet of the aggressive Jones became a challenge for some. We find out the real story of what started his rivalry with Randy LaJoie. Let's just say it all started in a hotel parking lot. The headlines of their tangles in some ways defined the career of Jones, who wouldn't back down from even a seasoned Champion such as LaJoie. Dale Jr. and Buckshot even hash out the wreck at Daytona, that pissed off Dick Trickle and sent the young Earnhardt on his roof during his first race at Daytona. Speaking of Earnhardts, even Dale Sr. wasn't pleased with Jones. But this time, Buckshot was quick to point out that the Intimidation was real. After a few years, poof, it was over. We are also looking for suggestions of funny phrases to put on our light board for each new episode. Its already the first Thursday in November and we had a lot of fun stuff to roll out as we close out the final two months of 2020. Jim Kelly joined us for his weekly Thursday show to talk Bills; another WGRZ icon gave us a ring as well; and some interesting topics like crazy names people have that we've heard & a throwback to one of our local classics the  'Roll up The Rim' contest from Tim Hortons. Robs Did You Know took place, as did the TrendZone featuring some great sound from around the world!           A very nice and successful young model and actress Paris Berelc, who recently starred in the Adam Sandler Halloween flick 'Hubie Halloween' on Netflix, was on the show bright and early to talk about the film. We also talked to her about her modeling career and asked her for some advice for Robs daughter in the industry. Off of our interview with Paris and the question Rob had about the origin of her name, we wanted to know and hear some of the funniest or most inconvenient or unfortunate name/name-combos we and YOU have ever heard. Some of these were celebrity names like Dick Trickle, Art Garfunkel; while others are more local like Robs friends with daughters named Jenna/Talia and submissions from you like 'Jen Italia'! Some of the names we came up with or heard were so hard to believe because they were so outrageous, yet it is a must hear and are very glad for your engagement! Our weekly visit with Bills HOFer Jim Kelly commenced as it does every Thursday and he had a lot to weigh in on including the recent Bills win over the Pats. He also helped us prep for this Sundays big matchup here in Orchard Park for the Bills versus the 6-1 Seahawks. We talked a little bit about the injuries and how he thinks the Bills are looking; and he even had some fun with a few questions we had about his playing days AND his name. From WGRZ Channel 2 General Assignment, Political and Consumer reporter Dave McKinley called the show for the first time and we had an absolute blast asking him questions about himself and his career. He does a great job as a journalist grilling people all over the place to bring people the news. He told us some really funny stories about what his house looks like, why he wears turtle necks and his voice. ONLY AVAILABLE on the Morning Bull Podcast! Inside Victory Lane - The Daytona 500 Podcast

The 1995 Daytona 500, the 37th running of the event, was held on February 19 at Daytona International Speedway, in Daytona Beach, Florida. Dale Jarrett won his first career Winston Cup pole. Sterling Marlin won the race for the second straight year, his second Daytona 500 win. With 20 laps to go, Marlin passed Earnhardt for the lead on the back straightaway. With 15 laps to go, Bobby Labonte (in his first race for Joe Gibbs Racing) crashed in turn 1, nearly collecting his older brother Terry. Earnhardt came in for 4 new tires, gambling that maneuverability would be more valuable than track position. Just before the restart, rookie Robert Pressley spun in the short chute before turn 1 after contact from Dick Trickle. When the green was waved Earnhardt quickly re-entered the top 10, and with 10 to go, he was side by side with Ricky Rudd for 9th. He passed Mark Martin for the second position with 4 laps to go, but Sterling Marlin's Chevrolet was not to be denied. This was Sterling Marlin's second Winston Cup win, both of which were in the Daytona 500. Marlin also joined Richard Petty (in the 1974 race) and Cale Yarborough (in 1984 race) as the only drivers who have won back-to-back Daytona 500's; this has not been done since. Martin went to third while his teammate Ted Musgrave finished fourth and 1993 winner Dale Jarrett (who started on the Pole) finished 5th.

Will and Mango dive into the strangely boozy origins of NASCAR, why you might need a yacht to enjoy Formula One, and how driver Dick Trickle made sure every race got off to a smoking start. Cody is joined by comedian, podcaster, and dark poet of the plains Zach Peterson to GET IT DONE AND SUCH! *airhorn/finger guns* You can find your copy of the book online and if you drive around Kentucky long enough.   ‘Git-R-Done’ by Larry the Cable Guy   Git-R-Done is chock-full of fart jokes and straight talk about America. I sat down one day and said to myself, “Larry, you’ve done it all. You’ve got three gold records, a successful DVD, a hit TV show, a picture of Shania Twain givin’ ya the finger, and most important, the high score on Frogger. What more could you possibly do?” Then I started thinking about writing a book. I wanted mostly to write Git-R-Done for all those good Americans who just wanna laugh like I do.   Come on inside and hear me make fun of Janet Reno, Rosie O’Donnell, and my fat sister, who caused a twelve-tray pileup in front of the caramel nut rolls at the country buffet. I’m gonna tell you why Dick Trickle is my hero, why we need to get back to good ol’ common sense, and why I prefer a picture of the Last Supper with NASCAR drivers as the disciples over just about anything.   Lord, I apologize!   The book will go down in history as one of America’s most important events since the breakup of Aldo Nova. Even my mom liked the book—here’s what she said: “There’s really not much I can say here except for I apologize to everyone ahead of time for the crap you are about to read.” Git-R-Done is just plain funny, I don’t care who ya are!   Also available as an eBook.   Show Notes:   Previous Episode: 94. The second — "Over the Edge" — is about BASE jumping, particularly those who gather at the New River Gorge bridge in West Virginia on the third Saturday in October every year to jump.

You know, if ESPN once reported on a NASCAR driver named Dick Trickle, then, we can certainly report on a soccer player named Kaka.   Actually, his real name is Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite, and he hails from the soccer crazed country of Brazil.   Seriously, it takes an entire day to pronounce this cat’s full name. No wonder why he just wants to be called Kaka.   This Brazilian midfielder can really play.   Kaka once starred for Brazil’s national team as well as in Italy’s pro league, Spain’s La Liga and the European Champions League. Have no fear - it's the Garage Hour - so there's also a fine load of gearhead chatter, tomfoolery and explosions too, including sounds from the salt flats, the .50-cal ricochet, Ghostbusters versus Zombieland, the must-see that is Cannonball Run, 9mm and .223/5.56 tales, some words of respect for NASCAR legend Dick Trickle, and a few thoughts about life as the KGB by the Garage Hour's very own Agent Aya, plus .45 Phil, Bryan and Charles from Wilde Built, and Hostus Maximus Justin Fort.
