This is kind of funny. Our last show, episode 220 from December, was in 2020. And now BBQ 221 starts off 2021. Okay, it was funnier when we said it out loud during this show than in print. It s a good thing we have a couple of demonstrations of a new speaker and the Chromecast with Google TV to fall back on instead of us relying on calendar-based humor. There is even an actual honest to goodness real news section for the show this go around. Plus, there is a bit of Sound Off and we ignore all food based New Year s Resolutions in the Last Word . Super Lidar - Lidar for the Blind   Another interesting app that uses Lidar to assist people who are blind.   Note - in the show I called it SuperSense which is another app that this developer has also done in the past, the correct name of the app is SuperLidar.   https://www.applevis.com/apps/ios/productivity/super-lidar-lidar-blind?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter   Facebook Using A.I. to Improve Photo Descriptions for Blind or Low Vision   Giving more meaningful information to photos.   https://about.fb.com/news/2021/01/using-ai-to-improve-photo-descriptions-for-blind-and-visually-impaired-people/   Blind Compass   This free iOS app emits tones for the cardinal directions. New displays use a cut down version of Keysoft to offer apps to use on the Braille Display, connect to 5 BT and 1 UsB device (fast switching).   BI 20X   https://store.humanware.com/hau/brailliant-bi-20x-braille-display.html   BI 40X   https://store.humanware.com/hau/brailliant-bi-40x-braille-display.html   Some Thoughts On my new M1 Macbook Pro with Touch Bar   On the M1 MbP, the Touch Bar replaces the Function keys. For Function key strokes, hold down FN and press 1 to 0, and dash for F11 and equals for F12. Nice physical separation between the Escape key on left and Touch ID button on right of the Touch Bar. Keyboard is as nice to type on as the M1 MacBook Air. Still same 2 USBC, and 3.5MM head phone ports. For me, no performance difference between either M1 Macs.   Interesting Tech - Strap, Wearable Device to Replace the Cane   Wearable tech to possibly replace the use of the cane, due out in Winter time in Australia, using various sensors to detect objects in front at ground, body, and head. Interesting sounding device, but with all such advancements, probably wise to use a bit of commonsense.   https://strap.tech/product.html
