The panel dives into the Vision Pro M5 update, iOS 26.3 beta changes, iPhone 17 improvements, iPad's role as a laptop replacement, Apple's transition away from Intel Macs, security concerns, and reflections on AI tools like ChatGPT as the year comes to a close. The discussion begins with a deep dive into Apple Vision Pro, focusing on whether the new M5 model is a worthwhile upgrade, who it's really for, and whether Vision Pro should be viewed as a finished product, an emerging platform, or a preview of Apple's long-term spatial computing vision. The panel explores developer adoption, enterprise use cases, and why meaningful spatial productivity apps may take years to fully materialize.   The conversation then shifts to software, including impressions of the iOS 26.3 beta, particularly changes driven by EU regulations and continued refinements across Apple's platforms. Attention turns to the iPhone 17 lineup, where incremental updates, battery life improvements, camera enhancements, USB-C workflows, and vapor cooling spark debate about whether upgrading is worth it year over year.   From there, the panel revisits the ongoing question of whether the iPad can truly replace a laptop, acknowledging its powerful hardware while noting ongoing limitations in iPadOS. The discussion continues with Apple's Mac lineup, highlighting macOS Tahoe as the final release to support Intel Macs and reflecting on how Apple Silicon has reshaped performance, battery life, and upgrade cycles.   Security also enters the spotlight with a discussion on a recent malware case that bypassed macOS Gatekeeper, reinforcing the importance of user awareness despite Apple's protections. The episode wraps with a lighter but thoughtful look at ChatGPT's new year-end summary feature, comparing it to services like Spotify Wrapped and reflecting on how AI tools are becoming increasingly personal in daily workflows.   The episode closes with final thoughts on Apple's 2025 trajectory, community engagement, and what lies ahead as the calendar turns toward 2026.   Topics and Links As 2025 comes to a close we review what happened this year with Apple and technology.  In Touch With Vision Pro this week.  Lets review Vision Pro in 2025 M5 version was released and dual knit head band was this a big upgrade?  Big Picture At the end of 2025, is Vision Pro a product, a platform, or a preview of what's next? In this final "human" podcast of 2025, Todd and Jon discuss the changing landscape of media distribution, internet connectivity, and the year's dominance of Artificial Intelligence. Episode Highlights: The Oscars Move to Streaming: The Academy Awards has signed a deal to move video distribution exclusively to YouTube starting in 2029. Todd notes that many viewers already consume the content via clips on the platform rather than the full terrestrial broadcast. The Digital Divide: A look at the 4-6% of US households completely without internet access and the 15-20% lacking fixed broadband. The hosts discuss the lingering presence of DSL compared to cable and fiber. Evolving Home Design: Jon highlights a design trend where living rooms are no longer centered around the television, reflecting a shift toward personal consumption on mobile devices rather than communal viewing. 2025 Tech Retrospective: The hosts reflect on how AI dominated the conversation throughout the year. Jon's Experiment: Using ChatGPT with memory to create a "cognitive time capsule," documenting his current psychological state and preferences to review in ten years. Todd's Experiment: Using Google NotebookLM to analyze and summarize PDF transcripts of the podcast's history. iPadOS 26: Todd notes that despite improved windowing features in iPadOS 26, his personal workflow has remained largely unchanged. Next Week: Todd plans to release an automated summary created via AI tools to close out the year.

On this year's final episode of The MacRumors Show, we take a look back at all of Apple's major announcements and new products from 2025. In February, Apple introduced the iPhone 16e, positioned as a replacement for the iPhone SE as a lower-cost model, starting at $599. It offers the A18 chip and a 48-megapixel camera in an ‌iPhone‌ 13-style design, but with matte back glass, a USB-C port, and no MagSafe. The device debuted Apple's custom C1 5G modem, replacing components from Qualcomm for the first time. In March, Apple refreshed several iPads and Macs. The standard iPad was updated with there A16 chip, and noticeably still lacks Apple Intelligence support. The 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air was refreshed with M3 chip, and Apple released redesigned Magic Keyboard for it. Apple also updated the MacBook Air with the M4 chip and introduced a new Mac Studio with M4 Max and M3 Ultra chip options. At WWDC in June, Apple previewed its major software updates for the year. The biggest announcement was the introduction of Liquid Glass, an all-new design language for all of Apple's software platforms. iOS 26 redesigned apps such as Phone and Photos, and added Live Translation with AirPods, a host of new features for Messages, and a new Games app. iPadOS 26 introduced a new, Mac-like multitasking system with windows, while macOS 26 Tahoe revamped Spotlight with a clipboard history feature and quick commands. In September, Apple released its annual ‌iPhone‌ lineup update. The iPhone 17 features a larger display with ProMotion for refresh rates up to 120Hz and a 48-megapixel Fusion ultra-wide camera. The iPhone 17 Pro and ‌iPhone 17 Pro‌ Max tout a completely new aluminum unibody frame with a large, full-width camera plateau and vapor chamber cooling. The telephoto camera received a major upgrade to 48-megapixels, with options for 4x and 8x optical zoom. The iPhone Air arrived as a totally new ‌iPhone‌ option, replacing the "Plus" model in the lineup. Sitting between the ‌iPhone 17‌ and the ‌iPhone 17 Pro‌, the ‌iPhone Air‌ has a radically thin design with a polished titanium frame, and uses Apple's custom C1X and N1 connectivity chips. The device only has one rear camera, a single speaker, and supports eSIM only. All of the new iPhones feature an A19 or A19 Pro chip, Ceramic Shield 2, a 18-megapixel Centre Stage front-facing camera with a square sensor, and new color options. Apple also released updated charging and accessory products, including a new ‌MagSafe‌ battery designed specifically for the ‌iPhone Air‌, TechWoven cases, and crossbody straps. Apple refreshed its wearable and audio lineups in the same month. Apple Watch SE was updated with the S10 chip and an always-on display. The aluminum Apple Watch Series 11 gained stronger front glass and a slightly bigger battery, while the Apple Watch Ultra 3 gains satellite connectivity for the first time. Cellular models of the new Apple Watches feature 5G connectivity. Apple also released the third generation of AirPods Pro, with improved active noise cancellation, a more refined design with ear tips that include foam, and heart-rate sensing. In October, Apple updated the iPad Pro, 14-inch MacBook Pro, and Vision Pro with the M5 chip. The new Vision Pro also gained a new dual knit headband, promising improved comfort, along with better battery life, higher-refresh rate displays, more rendered pixels. In this episode, Todd and Jon discuss the latest AI agreements, updates to the Apple ecosystem (OS 26.2), and the history of PowerShell. The core discussion focuses on the "overcomplication issue" facing tech enthusiasts and offers hardware and software tips to simplify daily workflows. AI & Industry News Disney & OpenAI: The Walt Disney Company has reached an agreement to license characters to OpenAI's Sora. Google Labs: Todd joined the waitlist for "Google Disco," a tool that uses "GenTabs" to create interactive web apps and complete tasks using natural language without coding. Visual Podcasting: Todd discussed using "Nano Banana Pro" and Gemini to create visual whiteboard summaries for podcast notes. Apple OS 26.2 Updates watchOS 26.2: Features updates to Sleep Scores, which Jon notes can feel "judgmental" regarding sleep quality. iPadOS 26.2: Reintroduces multitasking features like slide over and enables "Auto Chapters" for podcasts. macOS 26.2: Introduces "Edge Light" (a virtual ring light for video calls) and "low latency clusters" for local AI development on M5 Macs. Tech History PowerShell Origins: Jeffrey Snover, creator of PowerShell, revealed in a blog post that "cmdlets" were originally named "Function Units" (FUs), reflecting the "Unix smart-ass culture" of the era. Discussion: Simplifying the Tech Stack The hosts discuss the tendency to overcomplicate setups, such as using Docker for RSS feeds or complex SSO for home use. They recommend the following simplifications: Hardware KableCARD: A credit-card-sized kit containing multiple adapters, a light, and a phone stand to replace carrying multiple cables. Presentation Remotes: Use a simple dedicated remote ($20–$30) or repurpose a Surface Pen via Bluetooth instead of relying on complex software solutions. Software Pythonista (iOS/macOS): Run simple local scripts (e.g., GPA calculators) rather than paying for dedicated subscription apps. Homebridge: A lighter-weight alternative to Home Assistant for connecting IoT devices (like Sonos) to Apple HomeKit. Troubleshooting Tip Pixel Tablet YouTube Glitch: If the YouTube app on the Pixel Tablet displays unusable, giant thumbnails, the fix is to clear both the app's cache and storage/memory.

The show opens with a discussion about the frigid weather sweeping across the country, before moving into Apple's newly announced App Award Winners. The panel covers winners across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Vision Pro—including the iPhone App of the Year Timbo and Vision Pro winner Explore POV—with commentary on design choices, spatial computing innovation, and whether they personally use the selected apps. Next, the 2025 Apple Podcast of the Year—The Rest Is History—leads the group into a conversation about podcast quality, history storytelling, and the growing depth of Apple's podcast ecosystem. Updates to visionOS 26.2 RC are discussed, including expanded Travel Mode for buses and cars, support for spatial accessories (like Logitech's stylus), and improvements to Freeform. Eric even admits the new features were compelling enough for him to install the beta. Updates for iOS/iPadOS 26.2 RC also make news, adding the Liquid Glass lock screen slider, Reminders alarms, new AirPods Live Translation support in the EU, and Podcasts app refinements. Jeff warns listeners to hold off on macOS Tahoe due to persistent audio issues, reinforcing that stability still matters more than flash. The show then pivots into a major AI segment featuring:     •    Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.5, touted as the new coding champion among AI tools     •    ChatGPT's new holiday shopping assistant, which impressed some panelists     •    The controversial discovery of ads in ChatGPT's app code, sparking fears of "enshittification"     •    A possible Apple Health integration, which launches a passionate privacy debate     •    Real-world examples of AI massively reducing work time—from spreadsheets to meeting analytics The group revisits Apple's newest patent describing a crease-free foldable iPhone using liquid metal, prompting speculation on durability, user experience, and whether Apple can create a foldable without the hallmark crease. Apple's Year-End Music Charts and Apple Music Replay lead to panelists sharing their most-played artists—ranging from Supertramp to Rush to 80s icons—and poking fun at Dave's unavoidable Taylor Swift top rankings. Apple also releases a beautifully produced Accessibility in College ad, highlighting assistive technologies like magnifier, voiceover, and live captions. The panel praises Apple's leadership in accessible design and speculates on future features for glasses-based products. Finally, the team dives into a major Apple Arcade update, featuring five new games including Subway Surfers+, SpongeBob Patty Pursuit 2, PowerWash Simulator, and more. The topic unexpectedly evolves into a discussion of how simulation games—like power washing or trucking—can offer therapeutic calm for many players. TURKEY PLAYS a key role in the events unfolding in the Middle East.   Avi Lipkin (BiblicalAlliance.com) spoke to our tour group in Jerusalem in October, explaining why he sees Turkey as a key player in a war that will involve the entire Middle East. Of course, conflict involving Israel always has prophetic significance.   Avi also explains why the Israeli military appeared to be caught off guard by the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. It wasn't—but senior officers in the IDF withheld intelligence and first reports of the attack from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in hopes that he'd be blamed and forced to resign.  In other words, Israel's deep state hates Netanyahu just as much as America's deep state hates Donald Trump—and the deep state would gladly see their countries burn if it forced Trump or Netanyahu out of office. IS THE Book of Jasher is worth your time? Dive into mystical tales that some say could hold ancient wisdom and insights into our faith!  In the latest episode of Iron and Myth, our esteemed panel, Doug Van Dorn (DouglasVanDorn.com), author of Giants: Sons of the Gods; Brian Godawa (Godawa.com), best-selling author of the theological thriller Cruel Logic, and two new novels based on the period of the Maccabees in Judea; and Dr. Judd Burton (BurtonBeyond.net), author of Interview With the Giant, dives deep into the intriguing Book of Jasher.  The title, which translates to the Book of the Upright or the Book of the Just Man, has been a topic of discussion among scholars and enthusiasts alike. Various texts have claimed to be the Book of Jasher throughout history. We focus on a particular translation from the mid-19th century by Moses Samuel, which is believed to be a medieval Jewish text that may not date back further than the 15th century.  The Book of Jasher presents a fascinating window into the thoughts and traditions of ancient Jewish scholars. While its origins may be debated, its potential value for enriching our understanding of biblical narratives in beyond question. Whether you are a scholar, a casual reader, or a writer drawing inspiration from ancient texts, exploring the Book of Jasher could provide a deeper appreciation for the complexities of biblical history. The latest In Touch With iOS with Dave is joined by Jill McKinley,Jeff Gamet, Eric Bolden, Marty Jencius, Guy Serle. Episode 395 discusses VisionOS 26.2, Apple's new immersive F-18 video, third-party VR content, iOS/macOS beta features, CarPlay tweaks, and frustrations with notifications. The team reviews five years of M-series chips, explores new satellite features, tests out the digital passport ID in Wallet, debates the bizarre iPhone Pocket, reacts to Tesla adopting CarPlay, and covers Apple TV's plans to stream MLS for free in 2026. The group jokes about aliens, mental shielding, and Guy's emergency hat deployment skills before shifting into the week's Apple news. They begin with VisionOS 26.2 Beta, noting incremental improvements such as fixes for stylus pressure, stability updates, and lingering bugs in AirDrop visibility, SharePlay DRM playback, and subscription syncing. The panel agrees the update feels like a tightening pass while everyone waits for the next major feature drop. Apple's newest immersive video, "Flight Ready," filmed with Navy F-18s, sparks lively discussion. The group praises the cinematic quality—especially nighttime carrier deck landings and aerial shots—but several mention Apple's signature issue with immersive content: the feeling that "people are way too close to your face." The panel also highlights the increasing amount of third-party immersive Vision Pro content, including music videos, training simulations, and niche experiences created in tools like DaVinci Resolve, signaling that spatial content creation is slowly becoming more accessible. Eric shares his in-store test of the Vision Pro M5, where he focused on widgets, Safari multitasking, virtual displays, and system responsiveness. He intentionally pushed the device hard to see if it stutters—and it didn't. Dave walks through updates in iOS/iPadOS/watchOS/tvOS 26.2 betas, pointing out UI refinements such as expanded Liquid Glass styling, an improved Alarm interface, app sorting options in Game Library, and message-pinning in CarPlay. CarPlay itself becomes a heated topic—Dave explains how answering a call sometimes instantly hangs up afterward. Marty expresses frustration over automotive UI "reactions" in group chats while driving. The general consensus: CarPlay is great… except when it isn't. The group digs into macOS 26.2 (Tahoe) with mixed reactions. While some see improvements, Jeff notes memory issues and audio stack quirks still need addressing. 1Password's new behavior—unlocking automatically after system login—splits the panel. Some appreciate fewer prompts, while others insist on strict manual unlocking for security. A retrospective on five years of Apple's M-series chips follows. Marty mentions real-world benefits moving from M4 to M5, Jeff feels his M2 Pro is still strong, Dave says his M4 Pro Mac mini is now his main machine, and Guy jokes that old Intel Macs were basically "space heaters with keyboards."
