About 40 episodes and almost a year ago, we sat down and did a 3-part series on vulnerability. We'll be re-publishing them over the next 3 weeks!Joseph recently went back and listened to the first one, and liked it enough that he decided to re-share it and its siblings with the world. As an aside, we're still not quite back to where we can reliably record an episode together with a new baby around...The episode's original description is below:Wherein we talk about the need for vulnerability in relationships, and talk a bit about what vulnerability is.Being human means we stand in relationship with others. In so standing, we are capable of being hurt. That capacity to be hurt is the risk we take in being in a relationship. This isn't to say that the reason to be in a relationship is to get hurt, but if we were un-hurt-able, we'd also be untouchable, and ultimately un-love-able.Here is the link to the Brene Brown TED talk: https://youtu.be/iCvmsMzlF7o
“I think true vulnerability requires true discomfort. I think the definition of vulnerability is inherent to discomfort and vice versa. So I think you're spot on - I think there is no true vulnerability without true discomfort. And if you feel comfortable sharing whatever you want to share, then that may be a vulnerable piece of your experience of the past, but currently speaking, you're not being vulnerable in that moment.” - Benoit KimWelcome back to another episode of Discover More.It has been almost a month since Benoit has left Philadelphia, where he has called home for the last 4 years. He left Philadelphia on May 21st, and the date of today's recording is June 19th, so he has been in LA for almost a month. So this is the episode where he reflects on his journey and chapter in Philadelphia, where he met so many amazing people and was able to collect so many invaluable toolkits. And where he was able to grow professionally and most importantly holistically as a person. This is the episode where Benoit attempts to distill down the 5 biggest takeaways and lessons from the last 4 years of his life in Philadelphia. The lessons are:1) We Don't Know What We Don't Know2) Vulnerability is Strength3) Curiosity is Power4) Always Be Humble5) Surrender is the WayWe hope you enjoy this week's episode of Discover More with us. (Email her at Jules@HongKongConfidential.net) - Hong Kong Confidential podcast Our Guest Jules Hannaford grew up in rural South Australia before moving to Adelaide, the state capital, and beginning her career as a teacher. She now lives in Hong Kong, the setting of her first book, Fool Me Twice, which details the pitfalls and abuse she experienced in her online search for love. Jules began writing her book in 2010 when she was involved in an internet dating scam. She decided this was an important story to share with other women to prevent them from becoming caught in the same trap and help them make safer, smarter decisions when dating online. It took a long time for her to muster the courage to share her story after battling the shame of choices that landed her in a dangerous situation she counts herself lucky to have survived. Jules has always had a passion for people and their stories, so she started her podcast ‘Hong Kong Confidential’ in 2017 to provide a platform for sharing the stories of interesting and unique people in Hong Kong. Just as she knows the importance of sharing their stories on her podcast, she feels that her story can make an important contribution to the safety of those navigating the complicated—and sometimes illusionary—internet dating world. Great Quotes "Listening to your podcast was just awesome! I got so many tips on writing hacks, social media, how to put together a memoir. It was just awesome. I met Jessica through the Fertility Fest; a festival for anyone exploring their fertility journeys. It is a place for both mothers in arms and mothers in their hearts and it is a space Jessica is hoping can be a nurturing environment for all women. We as women are stronger united than divided, and the “haves” and “have-nots” in the fertility community seem unavoidably separated, but they shouldn’t be. We discuss the philosophy behind the Fertility Fest but also Jessica’s endurance challenges, which have ended up being more symbolic of Jessica’s quest for motherhood than she had imagined. Please e-mail with any comments, or if you have a story to tell yourself at reachhappilyeverafter@gmail.com.
