Some inspiration I had after teaching my first Desire Map Workshop this past weekend, and why I think you should Decide to Rise. In this Episode I share: my experience facilitating my first Desire Map Workshop a reading of a beautiful poem by the author of the Desire Map, Danielle LaPorte how you can stay Connected to get advance notice of the next In-Person and NEW Virtual Desire Map Workshops Decide to Rise by Danielle LaPorte Push. Turn up the volume. Go hard. Go harder. Reprioritize your aches and pains. Infuse your sensitivities with courage. Devote yourself to done. There are Soul-justified reasons to cancel. There are times to just stop. This isn’t one of them. Keep going. Show up. Full on. Full tilt. Full out. Decide to be one of those people who pull it off. Do what you say you’re going to do. Don’t let us down. Decide to rise. Why decide to rise? Not for the reasons you might think. In fact, these are the reasons that will make you sick and tired: Do not rise out of obligation.Do not rise because of feared consequences. Do not rise because you think being tough makes you smarter (it doesn’t). Decide to rise because you want to expand—your being, your life, your possibilities. De- cide to rise because superpowers are meant to be activated and applied in everyday life. Decide to rise to explore your place in the universe. On the other side of deciding to rise is illumination, ecstasy, insight. And the angel of your strength is there waiting, smiling, applauding, with a goblet of endorphins for you. Drink up!When you transcend circumstances you get special privileges. You get evidence that you are indeed amazing, and irrefutable proof that what your heart and mind choose is what matters. And you get the deep knowing that life wants you to win. Decide to rise. Lean in. Listen up. Closely. It’s your Soul speaking, and she says, Get UP! I need you. I want you. I am you.Choose me. Lean in. Listen up. Closely. Decide to rise. How does Adoption work? Can the Birth Mom ‘take the baby back’? Is the birth mom or birth dad involved in Parenting the kids? And how do you navigate the relationship with the birth mom? In this Episode Traci-Ann and I discuss: why she decided to adopt as a Single Mom at the age of 40 and how she was placed quickly with her daughter Arielle some of the biggest Myths about Adoption the difference between the Closed Adoption of the past and the Open Adoption system now why Traci-Ann wants to make sure her daughter doesn’t feel any shame about her adoption A Beatiful Quote About Adoption “Biology is the least of what makes someone a mother.”-Oprah Winfrey Some of the Biggest Myths About Adoption Myth: The birth moms are irresponsible or ‘bad’ girls. Truth: Their actions that got them pregnant may not have been responsible, but their decision to find a famiily to raise their baby absolutely was incredibly repsonsible. Myth: The birthmoms ‘give away’ their babies. Truth: The birth moms make an incredibly difficult and courageous decision to place their babies with another family. Myth: Your (adoptive) kids are so ‘lucky’ to have you as parents. Truth: As adoptive parents, WE are the lucky ones. We did not adopt out of charity, and are so incredibly grateful to the birth moms who chose us. Myth: The birth moms ‘give up’ their kids and don’t love them. Truth: It is because of the love they have for their kids, that they decide to place their kids with a mom or family when they are not yet ready to be a mom. They have not given up on their baby, but have made this difficult decision out of love. What Traci-Ann Would Like Others to Know About Adoption You can love your child as an adoptive mom as if it was your own, and bond with them from the moment you first meet. There is no shame in adoption, and no need to hide it from your kids. Tell them the truth. It is their history. Adoption is a blessing. Dr. Karen this podcast is amazing! Thank you so much in sharing your motherhood and adoptive journey. I so resonate with your story! My husband and I applied to become adoptive parents as I couldn’t have any more children after having our first son and getting stage 1 melanoma cancer during my first pregnancy. Always wanted to be a stay at home mom with 3 children. Unfortunately after 1 year (back then) of intense HOME STUDY, assessments, etc., we got the call a baby was available. However, we were unable to become adoptive parents as my husband was scheduled to go and help put out the flames after the Gulf War ended and they wouldn’t allow me to raise this baby alone while my husband was away for 18 months. Well needless to say, my husband wasn’t selected to go to Saudi and we missed out the time of a lifetime to have a brother or sister for our son. It was an extremely emotional, time consuming and private process. After listening to your latest show, I couldn’t put my iPhone down as I had to listen to all the episodes. After 29 years of not having anybody to share with in my adoptive parent process, this podcast is very therapeutic for me. I know through sharing your experiences and your high level of professionalism, you will touch and be helpful to so many moms! If you are a mom, especially an adoptive or foster mom anywhere around the world, you will certainly want to subscribe to this podcast. It was so inspirational knowing that you don’t have to be alone anymore! Thank you Dr. Karen for taking the time to put this podcast together and continuing your efforts to grow this very important issue globally. You will touch so many lives. Blessings!” -Cheryl Lynn Cheryl, I am so touched by your appreciation and in sharing your story. Thank you so much! Real Momma Quote “As you consciously choose to give yourself the gifts of self-care, they become an integral part of your rhythm and the vital tools that you will tap into for the rest of your life.”-Miranda J. Barrett NEW: Tweetables to Share! #Moms: Here’s 5 Simple Steps to Take Better Care of Yourself! #Momat41 @DrKarenOsburn CLICK TO TWEET Don’t you think it’s time to take better care of yourself, #Mom? #Momat41 @DrKarenOsburn CLICK TO TWEET Five simple steps to take better care of yourself : 1. Take 30 minutes for yourself. Every day. I made this commitment with a few colleagues recently, and will stick to it. It could be three 10 minute time periods, or two 15 minutes, or just one big 30 minute chunk. Do whatever you want in that 30 minutes. It’s just for you. 2. Stay Connected. It can be easy to retract in times of stress and challenge. Who wants to hear your sad story, right? Nope, this is the time you gotta connect with family and friends even more. And then continue to do so on a regular basis. Make it an important appointment to meet with friends for coffee, talk on the phone, or Skype those who live far away 3. Move your body. A walk, yoga class, lift weights, 10 minutes of stretching, play with your kids at the park, and if you can, get out into fresh air. You fulfill a basic need for your body when you move each day, and it’s also the best stress reducer on the planet. 4. Meditate for 5 minutes a day. This could be rolled into your 30 minutes for you in Step #1. I’ve dabbled on and off with Meditation, but am determined to get back to it. Think of it as a reset in your day, a way to start your day more grounded, or a tool to end your day with peace. Just you, being still, eyes closed, and cross-legged on the floor for 5 minutes. And if you want some motivation as to the power of Meditation, listen to it here. 5. Stop pushing so hard. Ease up. Take more things of your plate. I’m starting to really question whether life is about how much you can do in a day, week, or month if it all feels like a push uphill. How about creating more space in your day? When did it all become about a race to the finish line? Life is hard enough at times, do we really need to make it harder by ‘making’ it happen a certain way? Take one thing off your plate that feels like your are willing to make happen. Do it today. BONUS MATERIAL: Top 5 Things you Need to Know About doTERRA Essential Oils 1. doTERRA Essential Oils are Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade. You are getting the best of the best with these Essential Oils that undergo rigorous analysis to make sure that they are most effective (or bioavailable) for you. 2. We have used plants (and their seeds, roots, bark, stems, flowers and fruit) for health and healing for years. Because Essential Oils are the essence of the plant (when using precise methods of extraction), you are getting it in its most usable form which makes them immediately reactive to the body. 3. It’s estimated that Essential oils are 70% more effective than herbs. Herbs are dried, which dramatically decreases its bioavailability. The difference? One drop of doTERRA Peppermint oil is the equivalent to drinking 28 cups of Peppermint Tea (which would be in the herbal dried form of peppermint). 4. The research on Essential Oils is astounding, and there are thousands of Peer Reviewed Research on their benefits. Here’s one: A study on a group of seniors used Lavender to see how it would affect their sleep and stress levels. By simply inhaling (smelling) lavender, 97% reported a more restful sleep-wow! 5. Essential Oils (taken internally, topically or inhaled) are a simple wellness tool that can be easily incorporated into your day on a regular basis for you and your family. iTunes Review of the Week “So much cheaper than therapy.
