The Texas Longhorns Football Team is approximately a week away from the conclusion of spring practices and the Orange and White Game. The level of talent and depth on this football team is immense, which means that there is plenty of room for position battles to make sure the best 22 is on the field. We've seen exciting position battles at the 40 acres thus far that have included Arch Manning, Cedric Baxter and Anthony Hill from the talented 2023 class. We've seen position battles between returning players and transfers looking to prove themselves. While all of the focus is on the Texas Basketball Team and March Madness, the Texas Football Team is currently enjoying their spring break after their first week of spring practice, including the first fully padded practice of the spring on Friday. Spring ball is where this team is looking to set the foundation for a conference championship this season, and we've heard a lot of great stuff from some potential difference makers on this team. With Quarterback being the most important position, Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning have looked the part thus far. The Texas Longhorns Football Team begins their spring practices a week from now, building the foundation of what Texas fans hope will lead to some type of championship (Conference or National). Spring Practices are where you begin to set the foundation of what your football team will look like in the fall. Championships are built in the offseason. How will veteran players like Quinn Ewers, Xavier Worthy and JT Sanders look in their second/third spring practices respectively. How will newcomers like Johntay Cook, Cedric Baxter and Arch Manning look in their first spring practice? Will Steve Sarkisian have this team ready to compete for a Big 12 Championship? The answers to those questions remain to be seen. Texas lost to the Baylor Bears in basketball on Saturday, and they end the season against TCU and Kansas. It was a big week for the Texas Longhorns, both for players currently competing and players potentially competing in the future. It started on the volleyball court where Jerritt Elliott ended the Longhorns' 10-year championship drought, bringing home the NCAA title for the first time since the 2012 season. All-time great Logan Eggleston capped off her incredible college career not only with a national player of the year award but being named the tournament's most outstanding player as she led Texas to a national championship in her final game in Burnt Orange. On the gridiron, Texas welcomed the next generation of athletes to campus as 22 players signed their National Letters of Intent with the Longhorns. The class is highlighted by No. 1 overall player Arch Manning, as well as linebacker Anthony HIll and running back Cedric Baxter, both the top players at their position. The Miami Hurricanes have suffered another injury setback at running back. Don Chaney, Jr sustained an injury during practice on Friday, August 19th, less than a week after TreVonte' Citizen picked up a “significant injury” in the first scrimmage. The severity of Chaney's issue is not yet known, but head coach Mario Cristobal said it's not as severe as what Citizen is going through. Host Alex Donno is hopeful that Chaney won't have to miss too much time. Still, it's important to discuss whether Miami has enough depth if they are in fact down from 5 scholarship running backs to 3 for the foreseeable future. Donno believes the Canes are still in good shape with Jaylan Knighton, Henry Parrish and Thad Franklin leading the charge. Plus, he's not sleeping on walk on Devon Perry or the possibility of using wide receiver Brashard Smith at running back if necessary. Donno talks about cornerback Marcus Clarke hitting the transfer portal and how he is likely seeking more playing time elsewhere. Donno looks at recruiting notes on Miami Hurricanes targets Damon Wilson (5-star EDGE from Venice, FL), Jaylen Brown (5-Star WR from Gulliver Prep), Samuel M'Pemba (5-star EDGE from IMG), and Cedric Baxter (4-star RB, Orlando). The Canes have reportedly not stopped recruiting players who have verbally committed to other schools like WR Carnell Tate (Ohio State), WR Jurrion Dickey (Oregon) and WR Andy Jean (Florida.)
