Oregon Football has had over 10 players leave the program this offseason via the transfer portal and have brought in 9 players from other schools. With the one-time freebee rule in place, it's better for the Ducks to be over-involved in the portal than under utilizing the acquisition of transfers. This year is probably one of the busiest Oregon will see in the portal because of the coaching change from Mario Cristobal to Dan Lanning. On this episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin takes a look at how Oregon Football has been using the transfer portal this offseason. Some of the players who have left hardly saw the field over the last year or so, whereas a couple were regular starters for the Ducks. That's a trend that's likely to continue, and that same variance in production should be expected for the players who come to Oregon from other programs. Oregon Basketball added another backcourt transfer recently in South Carolina guard Jermaine Couisnard (KOOS-nard). Dana Altman and co. have brought in transfers over the years with varying degrees of success, and Couisnard could be one who thrives in Eugene. He jogs the memory of a past transfer, Dylan Ennis, who helped Oregon reach its first Final Four under Dana Altman in the 2016-17 season. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Cristobal or Napier Who Will Have More Success Year 1, Don't Sleep On The Steelers This Season, Why Hendon Hooker Will Breakout For Tennesse, Mariota or Ridder Who Starts At QB For The Falcons?

JT Sports Podcast

Mario Cristobal and Billy Napier were brought to the sunshine state with Cristobal being hired by the Miami Hurricanes and Napier getting hired by the Florida Gators. Both coaches have impressive resumes and did a great job with their previous programs but which Head Coach will have more success in year one with their new programs? JT Sports feels the Pittsburgh Steelers are being slept on once again. The Steelers had a very good off-season addressing several needs on the offensive side of the ball like WR and OL and also improving on the defensive side as well signing CB Levi Wallace and LB Myles Jack via Free Agency. Pittsburgh also found their franchise QB by drafting Kenny Pickett 20th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Steelers are playing in the AFC North one of the toughest divisions in the NFL this season with many pundits projecting Pittsburgh to finish in last place behind the Ravens, Bengals, and Browns. JT Sports explains why you shouldn't sleep on the Pittsburgh Steelers this season. Hendon Hooker quietly was one of the best QB's in College Football last season throwing for 2,895 yards, completing 68.2% of his passes, and had one of the best TD-INT ratios in the nation with 31 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. Hendon Hooker returns to Tennesse along with eight returning starters on offense. If Hooker picks up from where he left off last season the Tennesse Football program could be in for one of their best seasons in recent memory led by their breakout star. After trading away longtime QB Matt Ryan to the Colts, the Atlanta Falcons are starting a new era at QB. The Falcons signed Marcus Mariota via Free Agency and drafted rookie QB Desmond Ridder in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Who will be the Atlanta Falcons starting QB this season Marcus Mariota or Desmond Ridder? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jtsports/support

Secondary Coach Jahmile Addae is in his first season as a member of the Miami Hurricanes Football coaching staff, where he serves as secondary coach. Addae arrives in Coral Gables after spending the 2021 season in a similar capacity at Georgia, where he helped guide the Bulldogs to a national championship. Addae, who was ranked the second-best recruiter in the country during the 2022 cycle by 247Sports.com, led a secondary that ranked among the nation's elite in nearly every category. “Jahmile Addae is a gamechanger for our staff,” head coach Mario Cristobal said upon Addae's hiring. “His units rank among the nation's top-performing units every year. He has championship experience, he is one of the nation's top recruiters, and he has fostered a culture of mental and physical toughness in the secondary at every stop of his career. Coach Addae is a tremendous addition to our program, and I know he will make his impact felt on our defensive identity.” Addae's secondary ranked No. 13 in the nation in pass defense in 2021, allowing just 190 passing yards per game. The Bulldogs ranked second nationally in passing efficiency defense and picked off 16 passes, which was the eighth-best mark in the country. In addition, the Bulldogs were No. 1 in scoring defense, No. 1 in red zone defense and No. 2 in total defense. “I'm excited. A lot of people have talked about bringing The U back,” Addae said upon his hiring. “I like to think of it as, The U never left. It's more about doing our diligence and making sure we're developing the caliber of players that people are used to here at the University of Miami. “I'm super excited to be here. I remember playing against Miami when they were on a 34-game winning streak. It was Ken Dorsey, Andre Johnson, Bryant McKinnie…all the big names that we know. Those were some daunting teams. You walked out on that field and you felt the presence of those guys. That is what we're trying to bring back. How do you do that? Win football games and develop talent.” A native of Valrico, Fla., Jahmile in 2020 led a passing defense at West Virginia that ranked first nationally in Fewest Passing Yards Allowed at 159.6 yards per game. The Mountaineers, who capped their season by beating Army in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, finished fourth in the country in Total Defense (283.5 y/g) and tallied 11 interceptions that they returned 112 yards. In his first year at WVU, he coached two All-Big 12 Conference selections in Keith Washington II and Josh Norwood and freshman All-American Tykee Smith. Washington II finished with a team-leading three interceptions and a team-tying nine pass breakups for 12 passes defended, ranking No. 23 nationally. Hakeem Bailey tied Washington II for the team lead with nine pass breakups, ranking No. 9 in the Big 12. Smith was second on the team in interceptions with two, including one he returned for a touchdown against Iowa State. A former Mountaineer all-conference safety, Addae returned to WVU in January 2019, after serving as the defensive backs coach and assisting with several special teams' phases at Minnesota in 2018. His punt return unit finished No. 1 in the nation (22.3 yards per return), punt return defense was No. 2 (1.11 y/r) and the kickoff return unit finished No. 26 nationally (23.4 y/r). Prior to Minnesota, Addae spent five years at Arizona, coaching the defensive backs in 2016-17 and serving as an analyst from 2013-15. Addae developed a youthful defensive secondary into some of the team's top performers. In 2017, Lorenzo Burns, Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, Scottie Young and Jace Whittaker combined for 261 tackles, 24 pass breakups and 12 interceptions. In 2010-11, Addae was the running backs coach at Cincinnati, where he mentored All-Big East Second-Team selection Isaiah Pead. Pead rushed for 1,029 yards, ranking No. 1 in the conference and in the top-10 nationally in yards per carry (6.6 yards per carry). Pead averaged 93.6 yards per game and was Cincinnati's first 1,000-yard rusher in almost a decade and at the time, the Bearcats' seventh player to hit the mark. Addae was recognized by Rivals.com as one of the top-10 recruiters in the Big East Conference. Before coaching the Bearcats, Addae served as Cincinnati's Director of Player Development. He also managed many of the team's off-thefield responsibilities, including the Cats In The Community program. Prior to his time at Cincinnati, he was a defensive graduate assistant at Michigan, where he worked with the Wolverines' secondary and scout team offense. After graduating from WVU in 2006, Addae was a graduate assistant in the football video department at West Virginia. Addae was a four-year starter, two-time captain and two-time All-Big East defensive back for the Mountaineers. Addae, who is tied for the WVU record for most pass breakups in a game (five, Rutgers, 2002), finished his WVU career with 253 tackles, including 152 solo stops and 25 pass breakups, ranking No. 5 in program history. He also ranks No. 3 in single-season pass breakups with 16 during the 2002 season. Addae was selected for the Senior Bowl in 2006 and participated in the NFL Combine. He signed a free agent contract with his hometown Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2006 and spent the end of the season with the Indianapolis Colts. Addae, and his wife, Maryann, have three sons, Agyeman, Ayden and Amaree.

Offensive Coordinator  Josh Gattis is in his first season as a member of the Miami Hurricanes Football coaching staff, where he serves as offensive coordinator. Gattis, the reigning Broyles Award winner as the nation's top assistant coach, spent the previous three seasons (2019-21) at Michigan as offensive coordinator. He helped guide the Wolverines to their first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoff in 2021, leading an offense that ranked among the nation's top-performing units. “I'm fired up to add Josh Gattis to our staff as offensive coordinator,” head coach Mario Cristobal said upon his hiring. “Josh has championship experience and has achieved the highest honor as an assistant coach. He is a phenomenal human being, has exceptional acumen in player development and is a tremendous recruiter. His offenses are explosive and well-balanced, and his passion, ambition and energy will separate him as a difference maker for our offense and for our program.” “It's a tremendous honor to be here. I grew up in ACC land, and I've always had the utmost respect for this program,” Gattis said upon his hiring. “When you look at the history, the tradition and the legacy of this place, Miami is one of the most storied programs in all of college football. When the opportunity came up to be a part of this program, it was one that I just couldn't turn down. We've got an unbelievable staff and I'm really, really excited about Coach Cristobal's vision.” In addition to winning the nation's top assistant honor a season ago, Gattis has mentored a Biletnikoff Award winner, multiple All-Americans and all-conference players. He has been a part of four conference championship-winning teams and has coached in multiple College Football Playoff games. The Wolverines were stellar on offense a season ago, ranking No. 16 in scoring offense, No. 25 in total offense, No. 15 in rushing offense, No. 16 in third down conversion and No. 24 in red zone offense. Michigan won the B1G title in dominating fashion, routing Iowa 42-3 before earning a bid to the CFP for the first time in program history. In 2020, Gattis' unit averaged 28.3 points and 381.8 yards per game. The Wolverines gained over 350 yards of offense in four of six contests and went over 450 yards of offense three times. Running back Hassan Haskins averaged more than six yards per carry (No. 24 in NCAA), while four players averaged 10-plus yards or better per reception – including receivers Ronnie Bell (15.4 yards per catch) and Cornelius Johnson (15.9). In his first season, Gattis led the Wolverines offense to a 5,000-yard season (5,220 yards), averaging more than 400 yards of offense per game. The Wolverines averaged 31.7 points and 401.5 yards per contest buoyed by a stretch which saw Michigan out-gain and out-score four league opponents and Notre Dame by a combined +1,101 yards and +114 points. Thirteen different Wolverines were named All-Big Ten on offense under Gattis. Gattis coached wide receivers Nico Collins (37 catches, 729 yards, seven touchdowns) and Bell (48 catches, 758 yards, one touchdown) to career-best seasons along with quarterback Shea Patterson. Collins' 19.7 yard-per-catch average led the Big Ten Wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones (six touchdowns) was also a big end zone factor, and five pass-catchers registered at least 25 receptions each. Patterson became the third Michigan quarterback to throw for 3,000 yards in a season (3,061), throwing for the third-most yards (384) and the second-most touchdowns (five) in a single game during the course of the year. Michigan had two rushers over 600 yards in Zach Charbonnet (726 yards, 11 TDs) and Haskins (637 yards, 4 TDs), and Charbonnet's 11 rushing scores were a freshman record at Michigan. Prior to his arrival in Ann Arbor, Gattis worked as the co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at the University of Alabama. He helped the Crimson Tide reach the College Football Playoff National Championship Game and mentored All-American receiver Jerry Jeudy, the 2018 Biletnikoff Award winner, who caught 68 passes for 1,315 yards (19.3 avg.) and 14 touchdowns. In addition, Gattis developed Jaylen Waddle, who earned first team All-American honors by Pro Football Focus. The Crimson Tide had four receivers and a tight end surpass 500 yards receiving on the year. Prior to his position with the Crimson Tide, Gattis spent four seasons as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator at Penn State (2014-17). He also led the program's offensive recruiting efforts, helping the Nittany Lions ink four straight top-25 recruiting classes, including a pair of top-15 classes. Gattis was selected as the 2015 Big Ten Recruiter of the Year by Scout.com for his efforts. On the field, he tutored All-Big Ten receivers DaeSean Hamilton (2014, '17) and Chris Godwin (2015-16). Gattis spent two years as wide receivers coach at the University of Vanderbilt (2012-13) before moving into the Big Ten Conference. During his time with the Commodores, Gattis coached Jordan Matthews to All-America honors twice. Matthews ended his career as the SEC's leader in receptions and receiving yards while also setting the single-season mark receptions with 107 in 2013. He spent the 2011 season at Western Michigan as the wide receivers coach, mentoring Jordan White to consensus All-American honors. White led the NCAA in receptions with 140 for 1,911 yards during the 2011 season and broke numerous Mid-American Conference receiving marks. Gattis began his coaching career as an offensive graduate assistant coach at North Carolina in 2010. Gattis played collegiately at Wake Forest, where he earned his bachelor's degree in sociology in 2006. He was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference safety in 2005 and 2006. Gattis was a fifth-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2007 NFL Draft. He spent part of the 2007 season with Jacksonville before moving on to play for the Chicago Bears during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Gattis has a son, Jace, and a daughter, Reece.

Quarterbacks Coach / Passing Game Coordinator Frank Ponce is in his first season as a member of the Miami Hurricanes Football coaching staff, where he serves as quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. Ponce arrives in Coral Gables after spending the 2021 season as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Appalachian State. Ponce, a Miami native with deep roots in south Florida, previously worked under head coach Mario Cristobal from 2007-12. “I am fired up to welcome Coach Ponce back home to Miami,” Cristobal said upon Ponce's hiring. “Coach Ponce has a reputation as an elite offensive coach whose groups rank among the nation's best. He is a tremendous recruiter and talent developer, and his units have always been defined by their toughness, their balance and their explosiveness. I know he will continue to build on that track record at home with the Hurricanes.” In Ponce's second stint at App State in 2021, Mountaineers Chase Brice set a single-season program record for passing yards (3,337) and the Mountaineers extended their FBS-leading streak of consecutive years with a 1,000-yard rusher to 10 while averaging 34.5 points per game. The offense helped App State post a 10-win regular season and win the Sun Belt's East Division title. “I'm truly excited just being a part of this organization and this University, especially with Coach Cristobal,” Ponce said upon his hiring. “I've worked with him before. I know what his vision is and everyone wants to be part of a championship program and he's going to bring that to the city of Miami. “I'm excited. My family is here. I am from Miami and I grew up rooting for the Hurricanes. And now I am here wearing ‘The U' on my chest. And I can't tell you how excited and happy I am to be here back in the city of Miami, but most importantly, with University of Miami football.” Ponce was App State's co-offensive coordinator (passing game) and quarterbacks coach for six seasons from 2013-18. In 2019, Ponce joined the Louisville Cardinals' staff where he served as quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for two seasons before returning to App State. After helping lead App State to a 48-16 record and three consecutive Sun Belt championships during his five FBS seasons in Boone, Ponce oversaw the 2019 development of Louisville quarterback and new full-time starter Malik Cunningham, who set the school record with a passing efficiency rating of 194.45 — a number that would have ranked No. 2 nationally with one more pass attempt. Cunningham threw for 4,682 yards with 42 touchdowns, rushed for 1,091 yards with 13 touchdowns and completed 63.6 percent of his throws in his two seasons with Ponce, becoming the only Louisville quarterback to ever have four touchdown passes of at least 75 yards. Three-year App State starter Zac Thomas was a relatively unknown commodity replacing record-breaking quarterback Taylor Lamb back in 2018, and Ponce helped Thomas make an immediate splash as a first-year starter who developed into the Sun Belt's Offensive Player of the Year with 2,039 passing yards, 504 rushing yards, 21 passing touchdowns, 10 rushing touchdowns and just six interceptions during an 11-2 season. Ponce excelled as a high school coach in his home state from 1992-2006 before joining Cristobal's staff at FIU as the wide receivers coach from 2007-12. Ponce left FIU in 2013 to become the Mountaineers' passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Under Ponce's mentorship, Lamb finished his App State career as the school and Sun Belt record holder with 90 touchdown passes. The only FBS quarterbacks in 2017 with career totals of at least 9,000 passing yards and 2,000 rushing yards were Lamb, Ohio State's J.T. Barrett and Louisville's Lamar Jackson. With 27 touchdown passes and six interceptions as a senior, Lamb had the third-best season for an App State quarterback in terms of touchdown-to-interception ratio, and he led the conference in passing efficiency during three of his four seasons. As a first-year App State assistant, one season before Lamb became the starter as a redshirt freshman, Ponce directed the Southern Conference's second-ranked passing attack (271.8 yards per game). He helped quarterback Kameron Bryant set a school record for single-season completion percentage (71.2) and throw for 2,713 yards even though Bryant came into the season with just 13 snaps under his belt. Ponce is also renowned for his recruiting ability, as he was named the Sun Belt's top recruiter by ESPN.com in 2010. He coached six of the top 10 receivers in FIU history during his six seasons with the Golden Panthers. His most notable pupil at FIU was three-time All-American T.Y. Hilton, now a standout with the Indianapolis Colts. Prior to FIU, Ponce was one of the top high school coaches in football-rich south Florida, serving as the head coach and offensive coordinator at tradition-laden Miami Senior High from 2004-06 and the head coach at Coral Reef High from 2002-03. He began his coaching career with stints as an assistant at La Progresiva Presbyterian School (offensive coordinator – 1992), Coral Gables High (quarterbacks/wide receivers – 1993-96), Miami Northwestern High (quarterbacks – 1998), Miami Central High (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks – 1999-2000) and Miami Killian High (offensive coordinator – 2001). As a coach at Miami Central, he mentored Willis McGahee, who went on to become an All-America running back at the University of Miami and a two-time NFL Pro Bowler. Ponce enjoyed a decorated playing career as a quarterback at Miami Senior, where he was the team MVP and a finalist for the 1988 Miami Herald Hispanic Athlete of the Year Award. He went on to become the starting quarterback for two years at Arizona Western College, where he earned an associate's degree in arts in 1990. He earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Florida International in 1997. Ponce and his wife, Christine, are the parents of two daughters, Isabel and Leah, and a pair of sons, Frankie and Lucas.
