Thompson stepped in admirably last season when called upon and was expected to compete for a fourth safety spot with the likes of Ryan Watts. We then dive into the state of the defensive line and look at not only the short-term outlook, but also the long-term. Beyond Keenu, what will the defensive trenches look like beyond 2024? May 24, 2024 - Season 14, Episode 136 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers signing RB LeMich Perine on Thursday and why the team has recently added several new running backs to their offseason roster. The Steelers first week of 2024 OTAs wrapped up on Thursday and with that, Alex and I recap more notable things to come out of the first several practices. We talk about where rookie DB Ryan Watts is playing in the defense early in OTAs and if he has a future at safety. We also talk about a few things that third-year DL DeMarvin Leal had to say on Thursday and if he can make a huge jump in 2024. Steelers third-year WR Calvin Austin III had some interesting comments about the offense on Thursday and we discuss those from a personnel usage standpoint. We also talk a little about stats projections for QB Russell Wilson in 2024. Will and should the Steelers add to their wide receiver room moving forward? Alex and I look at that position group as it sits right now from a cash spending standpoint and go over the short list of candidates the Steelers might could pursue via a trade after June 1. We also talk a little about new Steelers OLB Jeremiah Moon in this show on the heels of a Thursday OTA report on how he looks early in OTAs. Alex and I review the contract extensions that S Troy Polamalu and TE Heath Miller signed in March of 2014 and how the structure of those might be something that the Steelers stick close to when it comes to a possible new deal for veteran DT Cameron Heyward. Several other minor topics not noted are also discussed in this 105-minute episode and we end it all by answering a few emails we have received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss the leadership roles being taken on by Dan Moore Jr. and Nate Herbig despite the efforts to replace them with high draft picks Troy Fautanu and Zach Frazier. Nick Herbig continues to be attached to TJ Watt's hip much like his rookie year. Ryan Watts will seemingly wear multiple hats for the defense. We also touch on the takeaways from the press conference held regarding Pittsburgh hosting the 2026 NFL Draft. Let's go for another Steelers Afternoon Drive and discuss! @On3sports has continued their Top 10 list amongst various units and coaching staffs in college football to give fans a glimpse of what to expect during the 2023 season. Texas has been shown a lot of love and respect on these lists thus far, with Texas landing on the Top 10 list for Quarterbacks, Wide Receivers and Offensive Line. On3 released their Top 10 list of cornerback rooms in the Country heading into the 2023 season and I disagree with their decision to leave Texas off the list. With players like Jahdae Barron & Ryan Watts returning, Texas has absolutely no business being left off of this list. 247 Sports is reporting that Ron Holland, who decomitted from Texas a few weeks ago, has not yet been released from his Letter of Intent from the University of Texas. With a ton of smoke surrounding Arkansas being one of his potential destinations, is Texas doing the right thing to delay that process, or is this petty move one that will affect them in recruiting moving forward? The Texas Longhorns Football Team completed their second spring practice and we continue to hear rave reviews about the most important position on the football field. Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning are both said to have made "Several NFL throws" in the second spring practice, represent talent we have not seen in the Quarterback room in a long time. Players like Jaydon Blue and Cedric Baxter are helping smooth the losses of Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson, and Johntay Cook sounds like the next great Wide Receiver at the University of Texas. Jatavion Sanders is poised to compete for the Mackey Award, given to the best tight end in the country every year and an experienced offensive line led by Kelvin Banks should be better this season. On defense, veterans like Ryan Watts, Jerrin Thompson, Jaylan Ford, and T'vondre Sweat will look to build on one of the best Texas defenses in recent memory, while also mentoring young players like Anthony Hill and Malik Muhammad. The Texas Basketball Team plays Oklahoma State tonight in the second round of the Big 12 tournament. How far can Rodney Terry take this team? @Texas Homer joins the show to talk about everything we need to know about what has been good and bad for this Texas Longhorns football team schematically. On the offensive and defensive sides, there has been some good and some bad this season, which has led to a 5-3 record for Texas through 8 games. On the offensive side, what has worked in the passing game between Hudson Card and Quinn Ewers thus far this season? What are the concepts that have allowed playmakers like Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington to make plays in the passing game this year? In the run game, what schemes have allowed Bijan Robinson and Keilan Robinson to be amongst the best in the country in terms of runningbacks? How have the versatile tight ends in Jahleel Billingsley and Ja'Tavion Sanders affected this offense? On the defensive side, this is a team that has vastly improved from 2021. What schematically has worked for the Longhorns on that side of the ball in 2022 that has allowed playmakers like Keondre Coburn, Demarvion Overshown, Jaylan Ford and Ryan Watts to shine this season? On top of that, the Texas Longhorns have a tough matchup against the Kansas State Wildcats tomorrow. On offense, how can Quinn Ewers and Sark attack them to get a tough win on the road? On defense, how can Pete K and Gary Patterson stop Deuce Vaughn and Adrian Martinez or Will Howard? Texas needs this win in the worst way. Let's hope they can get it. The transfer portal has changed college football forever and this game between the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners will be a prime example of that. For starters, the quarterbacks expected to start in this game came from the transfer portal. On the Texas side, you have Quinn Ewers who transferred to Texas from the Ohio State University. Dillon Gabriel transferred from UCF, and if he's not able to start than Davis Beville who transferred from Pitt will get the nod. Texas also features two prominent starters on the defensive side in Ryan Watts and Diamonte Tucker Dorsey who came out of the transfer portal. The coaching staffs will also play a huge role in the outcomes of this game. How will Steve Sarkisian bounce back from a devastating loss in the Cotton Bowl last year after taking a 25 point lead on the Sooners last year? Will Xavier Worthy and Bijan Robinson be able to match their performances last year? How will Jeff Lebby and Brent Venables prepare an Oklahoma Sooner team that has looked vastly underwhelming throug the first five games of the season. This is the first time since 1998 that both the Longhorns and the Sooners are coming into the Red River Rivalry both unranked. With questions at Quarterback for both teams, it's not hard to understand why. The addition of the one time transfer rule has turned the transfer portal into modern day free agency and has changed the way we view college football. In some ways, your transfer class is just as important as your high school recruiting class in terms of improving your football team. Steve Sarkisian was one of the best in the country in both facets, landing a top 5 in class in the high school ranks and the transfer portal at the University of Texas. The highlight of the transfer portal class for Texas was Quinn Ewers, one of the highest graded recruits of all time coming out of high school. In addition to that, Sark landed dynamic playmakers in Isiah Neyor, Agiye Hall, Diamonte Tucker Dorsey, Tarique Milton, Ryan Watts, and Jahleel Billingsley. Mike Huesmann, transfer portal expert, joins the show to discuss how that 2022 transfer class will impact Texas on their way to dethroning the Baylor Bears and winning a Big 12 championship. The possiblity of the one time transfer rule being abolished and players being able to transfer multiple times also became a reality this morning as we learned that the Division 1 committee was discussing that. Mike discusses how that would change college football as a whole and more.
