College basketball is back, and the 2022-23 season is chalk full of talented freshmen waiting to make their NCAA debuts. Jason Jordan of Sports Illustrated joins the show to discuss the latest college hoops stars, with discussion centered around Keyonte George (Baylor), Cason Wallace (Kentucky), Nick Smith and Anthony Black (Arkansas), and Amari Bailey (UCLA). Then, Jason and Andy go on to discuss conference realignment and the impact it has on high school recruiting. Specifically, Andy and Jason discuss the Gonzaga to the Big 12 rumors, and how coaches attempt to use conference affiliation as a selling point - even if the high school basketball players don't care about it all that much. Finally, the pair discuss the future of high school recruiting, and why Jason believes it will be much easier to go to Peach Jam and other summer circuit events in the future. The rise of NIL and the transfer portal has forever altered how coaches go about recruiting domestically and internationally, and Jason breaks down what the future for this sport might look like. The return of college basketball is finally here. NBA scouts and agents have had access to Pro Days, closed scrimmages and friendly matchups across the country. That means they've had an early look at a freshman class that should produce 20 or more one-and-done prospects for the June 22 NBA Draft. To provide you with a guide of what to watch for when the college basketball season starts, Rafael Barlowe talked to a number of scouts and an agent about a variety of significant topics in evaluating this group of freshmen. Adam Spinella is back for the second part of a promised two-part episode this week, with us diving deep into the 2023 NBA Draft class with some bold predictions heading into the college basketball season. We talk about Duke's freshman four, overall outlooks on the class, the upperclass prospects heading into the year, Ausar Thompson, Jalen Hood-Schifino, Indiana, and more. But first, we start with the NCAA's Baba Miller decision, as the organization handed down a 16-game suspension to the Spanish freshman forward that defies comprehension. Then, around the one-hour mark, Sam chats with Dayton center DaRon Holmes. Holmes is considered a potential 2023 NBA Draft prospect, and a likely breakout player in college basketball. Sam and DaRon chat about how he ended up at Dayton, how he got involved in basketball, and then they break down tape for 25 minutes, discussing his rim-running, his passing, his jumper and his defensive ability across the board. The North Carolina Tar Heels return a stacked lineup to the 2022-23 season. Hubert Davis gets four starters back in Armando Bacot, Caleb Love, RJ Davis, and Leaky Black. Add in Northwestern transfer Pete Nance to that starting lineup, plus returning reserves Puff Johnson, Dontrez Styles, D'Marco Dunn, and Justin McKoy and you've got a team primed for another Final Four run. But Carolina's capability doesn't end there. UNC brings in a four-person freshman class of Seth Trimble, Jalen Washington, Tyler Nickel, and early-enrollee Will Shaver. The question is – how will the freshmen carver out a role for themselves on this already loaded roster? Ohio State basketball is getting ready to tip off a season unlike any of the previous 123 in program history. A combination of graduations, early NBA Draft departures, transfers, and a medical retirement meant that the roster turned almost completely over this offseason. It also made room for a talented freshman class to arrive on campus, and potentially start remaking the future of Chris Holtmann's program. In this episode of Buckeyes TomOrrow Morning, you'll hear directly from Holtmann on that freshmen class, how things are going so far, and whether crazy levels of roster turnover are simply the new norm in college basketball. Penn State faces Central Michigan as a heavy favorite at noon on Saturday. It's the final non-conference game of the 2022 regular season for the Nittany Lions, and to get you ready for the game, Sean Fitz and Nate Baur discuss the game and give you the official Blue White Illustrated preview of the matchup. Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube, so you don't miss a show! It was a week full of events for the Penn State football media, but was it a busy one in terms of news? Fitz and Bauer discuss what they heard and didn't hear this week as Penn State faces their second non-power five opponent of the season. Bauer points notes a suspicious lack of questions about the opponent this week that set the tone for how the media talks about this game. Next, they briefly introduce this week's opponent before discussing their observations of Penn State's practice on Wednesday evening. Fitz and Bauer were on opposite sides of the field, so they give their perspectives on the offense and defense at practice. According to Fitz, one of the most significant differences this week was the tone. Next, they step back and take a wider look at Penn State through three games of the season and where they think the Nittany Lions stand in the final week before Big Ten play. They discuss the offensive changes this year and how they've experienced Manny Diaz's defense. The final game of September marks the fourth game of the season and is an appropriate time to examine the freshmen game counts this year. While the players that are integral to the team are obvious, they discuss the other players that have played in two games and those that haven't. How many will get the chance to see the field this weekend? Lastly, they dive into the Central Michigan film and discuss what they know about the team. Bauer examines the offenses' ability to string together drive and put up points, despite some issues against inferior competition. They highlight Central Michigan's quarterback, running back, and secondary as central figures in the game to come. Finally, they give their score predictions and preview the events coming up this weekend on YouTube and bluewhiteillustrated.com. This week's episode of Scrambling with Dylan Otto features Georgia Tech golfer Aidan Tran. Aidan started playing the game of golf as early as he could hold a club and got right into tournament golf at the age of 5! He's been in the spot light ever since his mother posted a YouTube video of him practicing at such a young age and the local news channel found him quick. Tran played on many junior tours in the area growing up from U.S. Kids to AJGAs which helped him develop as a player. When it came time for the recruiting process, he communicated with a few schools and found himself attracted to the first school he ever talked with and that was Georgia Tech. Aidan is currently a Freshmen at GT and is looking to be a main contributor to the team. Enjoy the show!
