In this show, FOX Sports' lead College Football analyst Joel Klatt proves it's always a good idea to hit record during Hour 71 of a 72-hour fasting cleanse. He kicks off the show by revealing which teams he feels are trending up and which are trending down as we enter the offseason, revealing his 3 Up & 3 Down in his College Football Stock Watch – which includes two blue blood programs he believes are heading in different directions. After YouTube star MrBeast teased the idea of giving $100 Million to a school to go win a National Championship in Football, Klatt walks through the idea and considers whether a huge check would actually buy a title in today's world of NIL and the Transfer Portal. He discusses North Dakota's State's jump from FCS to the Mountain West and the reported possibility of Alabama cancelling the upcoming Ohio State home-and-home series to start in 2027. The coach is joined by reporters Tony Barnhart and Dennis Dodd to analyze a major 24-team playoff proposal from Big Ten Commissioner Tony Pettiti. Described as a "24-team compromise," the plan suggests expanding to 16 teams by 2026 or 2027, eventually reaching 24 teams shortly thereafter. The proposal is designed to address many of the SEC’s long-standing concerns, such as the elimination of automatic qualifiers and the potential removal of conference championship games, which the memo refers to as "artificial". The reporters highlight that under this format, the top 23 ranked teams plus one Group of Five representative would make the field, significantly increasing access for all conferences while potentially generating enough revenue to offset the loss of traditional title games. The discussion also explores the logistical advantages and broader implications of the 24-team model. A key feature of the proposal is that the top eight seeds would receive a bye and be guaranteed a home game, with the first two rounds played on campus sites. This addresses the medical concern of student-athletes playing too many games, as the maximum number of games a team would play remains 17, the same as the current 12-team model. Beyond the playoff, the group touches on "workarounds" in the NIL landscape, such as Texas Tech’s strategy of leveraging apparel deals and media partners to funnel money to athletes. They conclude by noting North Dakota State's move to the FBS and the ongoing struggle for the NCAA to secure a legislative "fix" from Congress for issues like athlete employment status.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Coach is joined by Tony Barnhart for a deep dive into the evolving landscape of college football, specifically focusing on the transformative role of artificial intelligence in game preparation. The duo discusses how AI could revolutionize the analysis of transfer portal data and the breakdown of opponent film, potentially condensing hours of manual labor by graduate assistants into mere minutes of automated processing. They also explore current legal challenges facing the NCAA, specifically regarding player eligibility and the impact of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) on the sport’s traditional structure. The conversation shifts to historical reflections and conference dynamics, featuring a look back at the career of Archie Manning and his record-breaking performances in the late 1960s. Barnhart shares insights from his upcoming book on the SEC, highlighting the leadership of influential figures like former commissioner Roy Kramer and athletic director Vince Dooley. The segment concludes with a look at modern conference realignment, including North Dakota State’s move to the Mountain West and ongoing debates about the potential expansion of the College Football Playoff to a 24-team format, which could signal the end of traditional conference championship games.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

That Super Bowl was a stinker…but at least Bad Bunny showed up. We break down everything from a flat game and a halftime show that saved the night, to Cardi B and Stefon Diggs seemingly splitting in real time. There was a streaker, Hall of Famers reminding us we're getting old, and somehow Pete Rose catching strays. Then things get weird. 49ers DT Keion White reportedly gets shot in the ankle after a post–Super Bowl club altercation with Lil Baby. Here from Bison Players as they react to the news of moving to the Mountain West
The greatest program in FCS is moving to the Mountain West, effective this upcoming season. North Dakota State won 10 of the past 15 FCS national titles and decided to try something new. It's a huge move, giving FBS a new contender for the Group of 6 spot in the Playoff and reshaping the competitive pecking order in FCS. But we've still got many questions to talk through:* Why now? NDSU had batted around this idea for years* Does the money make sense? (NDSU probably wouldn't be doing it if it didn't, but the additional expenses will be millions per year)* Why the Mountain West and not the new Pac-12?* How good will the Bison be right away?* Is it ever right to be bored of success?* Is it time to update our priors on how hard it is for teams to successfully leap from FCS to FBS?* TRIVIA: Which seven states still don't have an FBS team? Also, we talk about the college elements of the Super Bowl and Bobby Hauck's very brief retirement from coaching. There will be a new face in the FBS for the 2026 season as FCS powerhouse North Dakota State is making the leap. The 10-time FCS National Champions will be joining the Mountain West Conference. Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey discuss if they think this is the right move for the Bison. The guys chat about what exactly the team is giving up to make this move, what they have to gain, and if they think North Dakota State can be successful. Plus, they also discuss the latest in the Charles Bediako case. He is no longer eligible to play for Alabama after a judge denied his most recent injunction request. Andy and Godfrey discuss what this means going forward. Then, the guys take a quick look at the NFL in comparison to college football. Sam Darnold culminated his redemption story with a Super Bowl ring this season. Once the third pick in the NFL Draft for the New York Jets, Darnold struggled for much of his career. After being a back-up in San Francisco, he found success as a starter for the Minnesota Vikings and now is a Super Bowl champion with the Seattle Seahawks. Andy and Godfrey look at the college landscape and discuss if there are any transfer quarterbacks that may have a similar redemption story in 2026. Later, the guys continue to look at the transfer quarterbacks, but through a different lens. Last episode, Godfrey compared Fernando Mendoza to a certified, pre-owned Honda. This was meant as a compliment. Now, they look at the transfer quarterbacks for 2026 and compare seven QBs to used cars. The Packers made their biggest coaching move of the offseason, parting ways with wide receivers coach Ryan Mahaffey and hiring Penn State's Noah Pauley as his replacement. This isn't just any hire—Pauley is a rising star who interviewed for the 49ers offensive coordinator job last year, developed multiple high draft picks including Jayden Higgins and Jalen Knoll, and perhaps most importantly, coached Christian Watson at North Dakota State from 2019-2022. As a Minnesota native who grew up a Packers fan, Pauley brings both elite credentials and genuine passion for the green and gold. In this episode, we break down why this coaching change signals the front office's willingness to make bold moves when necessary, explore the potential impact on Watson's development and Matthew Golden's playing time, and discuss whether this hire indicates deeper frustrations with receiver development. We also cover extensive NFL news including the Eagles' continued organizational chaos with AJ Brown trade speculation intensifying, international games coming to Melbourne and Rio, Super Bowl injury updates, and the media industry's massive layoffs at the Washington Post. Plus, we examine free agency targets across the league, NFC North coaching changes, and why watching divisional rivals implode might be the best part of the offseason. Whether you're excited about Pauley's track record with Watson or skeptical about another coaching shuffle, this hire represents a clear departure from business as usual in Green Bay.
