Also, Argyle Liberty Christian triumphed over Dallas Parish Episcopal, ending the Panthers' five-time state championship win streak with a convincing 45-24 victory!Another impressive win this weekend was the Summer Creek Bulldogs' overwhelming defeat of their district rivals, the Kingwood Mustangs, by a score of 51-7. The Bulldogs aim to return to AT&T Stadium for a second consecutive year and are just a week away from achieving that goal! Taylor's first guest this week is Bulldogs safety Brandon “B” Jones. Last week's quarterfinal game saw Brandon break the national record for pick-sixes in a season, marking his seventh interception and tying the Texas record as well! Taylor and “B” discuss the record, his team, and his passion for the game! Next up is athlete Keilan Sweeny, a standout for the Randle Lions, who are headed to the semifinals. Keilan scored all three of their touchdowns in last week's game, including the overtime winner! He shares what it's like to make history for the Lions and the special bond this team has developed this season.Our final guest is North Shore cornerback Devin Sanchez. An Ohio State commit and one of the top-ranked players in Texas and the nation, Devin possesses incredible speed and has made opposing offenses think twice about throwing near him for years! We get down to the nitty gritty of the first three months here and talk about how isolating and scary it can be trying to keep it all a secret, and keep your baby inside and growing healthy all at the same time. I love Keilan McNeil’s energy. It’s the exact opposite of mine. Where I tend to be soft and gentle, he’s bold and fierce. But we’re coming from the same place in our expression and what we’re pointing to regarding the spiritual journey of awakening; it’s just two different ways of expressing it. His bold, edginess makes a much bigger splash than mine, meaning it can be triggering for some. But teaching through triggering can be highly effective because it cuts through the BS that gentleness never stirs up. What Keilan and I both understand is we need to be able to do both, depending on what the situation is calling for. For him, that meant learning from a few “Kanye West Moments”. Keilan is a powerful manifestor. In the (almost) two years I’ve known him, he’s lived in Florida, Toronto, went nomadic for a time and now lives in Irvine, CA, where we recorded our interview. Most of his choices occurred with little money and a lot of faith in himself and his co-creative power. He’s said yes to a $3000 trip with $30 dollars in his account and three weeks to come up with the rest. He moved to California with a job secured but no place to live or car to drive. Both of which worked out. In following his inner guidance, he’s had to leave people and jobs he loved to continually prioritize his own inner alignment. (Most are too scared to do this, but following your unique blueprint requires the willingness to do this). In this conversation, we talk about learning from his Kanye West Moments, his tips on manifestation and staying energetically and vibrationally aligned, his new love and passion for making conscious music, and utilizing a 9-5 job to prioritize his art (as opposed to expending creative energy free lancing when that same energy could be poured into his own art). Keilan embodies and shines his light in the world through a deep belief and confidence in himself and he powerfully expresses it through his spiritual writing, making conscious music and creating and editing purpose-driven videos, as well as though the love and care he gives to others. On this extra outdoorsy episode of Kids These Days! we're celebrating Alaska's amazing bounty by speaking with those in the know about fishing, gathering and hunting in Alaska. Does your family do any of these activities together? If so, you know that they're about more than harvesting food -- picking berries, taking a moose or landing a halibut also mean quality family time spent together! First up this hour, host Shana Sheehy speaks with award-winning author Seth Kantner. Kantner wrote Shopping for Porcupine and Ordinary Wolves which won a Milkweed National Fiction Prize, establishing him as one of the nation's top young writers. In addition to writing, Kantner is a commercial fisherman and wildlife photographer. He spoke to us about living a gathering life in a modern world from Kotzebue where he lives with his wife and daughter. Unlike in other states, hunting in Alaska is on the rise - maybe that’s because hunting is a family tradition for many in the 49th State. For one Wasilla family, the Adamses, the tradition of hunting - and gun safety - has been passed down through the generations. Producer Sarah Gonzales spoke with this family and also with Jerry Soukup, the coordinator of the Alaska Department of Fish & Game's Hunter Information & Training (HIT) Program Also speaking to us from Fish & Game, Tony Kavalok the Assistant Director for the Division of Wildlife Conservation, and the former Palmer Area Wildlife Biologist for the division, speaks with us in-studio about the many programs ADFG offers for young people to help get them out fishing, hunting, participating in shooting sports and into conservation camps. Christina Salmon was born and raised in Igiugig, Alaska (pop. 64) to Dan and Julia Salmon, she is the eldest of 5 children and has lived back at home since 2007 where she now works as the village's Environmental Director. She has 3 children: Aiden, Keilan and Dannika, 6, 4, and 2. She says, "I wanted to raise my children in rural Alaska so they could experience life as I did when a child, living off the land, subsistence hunting, fishing and berry picking. Enjoying the simple things in life." And last but certainly not least this hour we have a new installment of KTDontheGO with Erin Kirkland. This time she's exploring the special connections and memories that happen when fathers and daughters go fishing together.
