As well as Ohio State's played so far in the College Football Playoff, it feels like the only team who can beat the Buckeyes is themselves. But that doesn't mean a win over Texas will come easily. The Longhorns are in the CFP semifinals too for a reason, the biggest of which is its defense, which leads the nation in passing yards allowed per attempt. We're not sure if anyone in college football can stop Jeremiah Smith right now, but the Longhorns might be the most well-equipped team in the country to at least slow Ohio State's passing offense down.On the other side of the ball, Ohio State faces a dangerous passing attack led by an old friend in Quinn Ewers. But we expect the Buckeyes' defense to make life difficult for Ewers, especially considering the Longhorns' recent struggles in the running game, and we think Ohio State might hold the quarterback advantage anyway with how well Will Howard has played in Ohio State's first two CFP games. We share our full thoughts on Ohio State's matchup with Texas and make our predictions for how the Buckeyes' Cotton Bowl battle with the Longhorns will play out on this week's episode of Real Pod Wednesdays, as outlined below:0:00 Intro0:58 There's Not Much to Nitpick From Ohio State's Dominant Performance vs. Oregon4:33 Texas Has One of the Nation's Best Pass Defenses, But Can Anyone Stop Jeremiah Smith?11:24 Making Texas' Offense One-Dimensional Could Be the Key to Another Dominant Win18:44 Which Quarterback Would You Rather Have: Will Howard or Quinn Ewers?21:26 Colin Simmons is A Really Good Freshman, But We'll Take Jeremiah Smith23:31 Ohio State's Offensive Line Faces Another Big Test, Will It Rise to the Occasion Again?27:18 Donovan Jackson and Justin Frye Have Both Stepped Up in A Massive Way30:00 Our Biggest Reasons for Confidence and Biggest Reasons for Concern in the Cotton Bowl39:19 Lathan Ransom, Tyleik Williams Among Players to Watch vs. Longhorns42:24 Score Predictions for Ohio State vs. Texas45:28 Predictions for Notre Dame vs. Penn State

Clemson heads to Austin, Texas to play Texas on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 3 Central, a game shown on TNT/Max. Oddsmakers favor has Texas by 11 with an over-under of 51.5 as of Dec. 8. Our composite computer model favors Texas by 12 1/2. Chris Lee and Chase Robinson preview the game. Topics include: Clemson has a veteran, balanced offense with terrific players in quarterback Cade Klubnik and running back Phil Mafah. Texas's defense is loaded with play-makers like Anthony Hill, former Clemson safety Andrew Mukuba, Jahdae Barron, Barryn Sorrell, Trey Moore, Colin Simmons and others. Texas has elite guys on offense, including two quarterbacks in Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning, a talented receiving corps paced by tight end Gunnar Helm and running back Tre Wisner. But the Longhorns were inconsistent offensively thanks to turnovers and a running game that was hit-or-miss (and ran for just 1.1 yards per carry in the loss to Georgia). Neither team is good on special teams. Want to watch the episode instead? Head on over to YouTube, don't forget to subscribe! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvvHqWHKZzw Before Biff's interview, Andy breaks down a busy news day in college football. The state of Iowa gambling investigation ensnared four Iowa State players and three current or former Iowa players. They were all charged with tampering with records for attempting to conceal their identities while placing bets. The headliner is Iowa State tailback Jirehl Brock -- who led the Cyclones in rushing in 2022 -- but the true head-scratcher is Iowa State defensive tackle Isaiah Lee, who placed a money line bet on Texas in the 2021 Texas-Iowa State game. (Which Iowa State won 30-7.) (0:00-7:42) Elsewhere, five-star plus edge rusher Colin Simmons from Duncanville, Texas, committed to Texas. (7:43-10:00) Meanwhile, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick bemoaned the fate of Cal and Stanford, which still remain without a conference home. Andy sent a tweet that turned into a column that proposed a new Notre Dame-led conference. Hey, it's the No Bad Ideas phase of realignment. (10:01-17:07) Then, Poggi joins to smoke a cigar and explain why he gives an anti-recruiting pitch to players considering Charlotte. He also addresses his sign-off at American Athletic Conference Media Days after only getting three questions. (17:08-38:52) Later, Billy Liucci of TexAgs.com joins to discuss the Netflix Johnny Manziel documentary that dropped this week. Billy was a main character in the doc, and he takes us behind some of the stories that made it compelling television. (38:53-1:05:04) Finally, the Extra Point is about NFL Preseason from the eyes of a college football fan. The NFL fans may be new to some of these names, but the true college football fans always remember them before they hit it big time. (1:05:05-1:07:32) Learn more about your ad choices. Even though we are so close to college football season we can almost taste it, this season, just like all seasons, is recruiting season. LSU hosted a huge weekend event for some of the top talent in the 2024 and 2025 classes called Bayou Splash Weekend. Following that weekend LSU flipped an offensive lineman committed to Ole Miss and added an in-state offensive tackle to bolster up a thin position group in the 2024 class. But who else stood out that weekend? Locked On's official recruiting insider, Brian Smith, joins Caroline Fenton of Locked On LSU to break down the latest of which recruits have their eye on the Tigers and which recruits are being eyed by LSU. Plus, one of the most highly anticipated announcements of the 2024 class is happening on Thursday afternoon. Five-star edge rusher Colin Simmons out of Texas has narrowed down his search to LSU, the University of Texas Longhorns, and the Miami Hurricanes. Where is he leaning? What could he add to an already stout LSU defense? Finally, the college football world has been changed forever with the collapse of the Pac-12 which brings up several questions of the future: what does a twelve team College Football Playoff look like with just four "power" conferences? How will West Coast schools coordinate weekly travel to the midwest? Where does this leave Oregon State and Washington State? But more importantly, as far as Brian Smith is concerned, how has this effected recruiting and how will it continue to effect recruiting in the future? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Locked On Canes - Daily Podcast On Miami Hurricanes Football & Basketball
The Miami Hurricanes are seeing quick progress from true freshman running back Mark Fletcher and true freshman defensive lineman Rueben Bain. Fletcher, at 6-1, 223 lbs, might easily be Miami's best option near the goal line. Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson says Fletcher is adapting quickly. On defense, “Hurricane” Bain is picking up where he left off in spring football. DC Lance Guidry said he will definitely get on the field this year. Host Alex Donno reacts to the quick progress from Fletcher and Bain. He also notes that freshman offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa is the most “day one ready” out of the entire 2023 class. Fans can also expect an early impact from WR Ray Ray Joseph, DT Joshua Horton and CB Damari Brown. Donno explains why Miami's coordinators feel that the Canes' downfield passing game and run-stopping are still a work in progress. Miami's coordinators each gave an honest assessment of their respective units on Saturday. Donno answers questions from listeners on fall camp, recruiting, and conference realignment. LSU football hosted some of the top recruits across the country over the weekend for the Bayou Splash event. It was a star-studded weekend as Brian Kelly and the rest of the recruiting staff hosted some of the class of 2024's finest, including five-star edge rusher Colin Simmons from Texas and four-star QB and LSU commit Colin Hurley from Orlando. It didn't take long for the "BK Takeover" tweets to start rolling out and for recruits to want to pledge their commitment to the Tigers. LSU landed two offensive line commits in as many days after the event, snagging 3-star offensive tackle Ory Williams and flipping 3-star interior offensive lineman Joseph Cryer from division rival Ole Miss. So what is the significance of this weekend? Why should LSU Tigers fans care about the two offensive line commitments, both when it comes to the offensive line itself and recruiting as a whole? Locked On LSU host Caroline Fenton breaks down the weekend and why the last 48 hours could just be a sign of what is to come, and much more, for the Tigers of the future. The Miami Hurricanes have made a strong impression on the family of 5-Star edge rusher Colin Simmons. Simmons' mother told Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports that Canes defensive line coach Jason Taylor is the top coach in his recruitment that she would want him to be coached by. Host Alex Donno and guest Larry Blustein break down the importance of winning over families, and how influential moms can be in recruiting. Donno and Blu discuss the recent de-commitment of 4-star safety Jaylen Heyward from Georgia and whether or not Miami will make a run at him. Larry gives Donno scouting reports on some of Miami's recent verbal commits like 5-Star WR JoJo Trader and 4-Star DT Artavius Jones. Blu also explains the impact that transfer receiver Tyler Harrell can have on the Canes, and what makes 3-Star running back Chris Wheatley-Humphrey so underrated. The Miami Hurricanes have added graduate transfer linebacker KJ Cloyd from Louisville. Cloyd played under new Miami linebackers coach Derek Nicholson at Louisville. He will likely be the final transfer player for Miami before the 2023 season begins. Cloyd will likely play a backup role, but host Alex Donno lays out the reasons why this is a very important depth signing. Cloyd is physically mature at 6-2, 229 lbs, good against the run, and his experience with coach Nicholson should be valuable for him helping his teammates adapt. Cloyd has one final year of eligibility. Donno reminds listeners he has put out a DonnoBall prediction for Miami to land 4-Star 2024 tight end Elijah Lofton from Bishop Gorman HS in Las Vegas. Donno reacts to his willingness to BLOCK in addition to catch passes. Alex runs down some of the blue chip players who were most impressed by their Miami visits over the weekend. The Canes are making moves for 5-stars Colin Simmons, Ellis Robinson IV, Dylan Stewart and Aydin Breland and 4-Stars LJ McCray, Jerrick Gibson and Braylon Staley. Locked On Canes - Daily Podcast On Miami Hurricanes Football & Basketball
The most anticipated recruiting weekend for the Miami Hurricanes in years has finally begun. The Canes are hosting 14 class of 2024 prospects including four of the top ten in America. Recruiting expert Brad Tejeda joins Alex Donno to discuss where Miami stands with players like 5-Star DT David Stone, 4-Star DL LJ McCray, 4-Star WR Braylon Staley, 4-Star DL Aydin Breland, 5-Star edge rushers Colin Simmons and Dylan Stewart, 5-Star cornerback Ellis Robinson IV and 5-Star RB Jerrick Gibson. The Canes also have TOP JUCO cornerback Sione Laulea visiting. The Canes just landed a commitment from his teammate, Demetrius Freeney, on Thursday night. Brad explains the commitment timelines for many of these standouts. Some of them might commit to Miami or someplace else this summer. Others will wait until the fall or December, so Miami needs to continue to chip away. The guys explain why Miami is improving their position for WR Braylon Staley, with Clemson no longer a big factor for him, and why the Canes are more likely to land Dylan Stewart than Colin Simmons. Brad and Donno recap last weekend's visits and where Miami stands with players like 5-Star DL Kamarion Franklin, 4-Star LB James Nesta, and 4-Star receivers Drelon Miller and Jerrae Hawkins. Brad explains how the Miami baseball coach stepping down could affect Nesta's recruitment as a dual-sport athlete. You can chat with Donno any time on our new Subtext SMS texting service. Host Alex Donno and guest John Garcia Jr discuss a handful of players who have recently been “crystal ball'd” to join Mario Cristobal's Hurricanes. Malone is a dual-sport athlete who also stars in baseball. John shares the latest on 5-star defensive tackles Justin Scott and David Stone.
