Their purpose is to produce yearly seasons of creative works based largely on, but not limited to, non-traditional, interactive interpretation of Shakespeare's plays, as well as other literary classics and work by new playwrights. Making theatre a family experience is a priority. Luis Cardenas from Open Hydrant Theater Company joins us to talk about the challenges and triumphs of introducing theater in this very tough neighborhood (remember "Fort Apache-The Bronx" with Paul Newman?). Visit them online and make a tax-deductible donation to the great work they do at www.openhydrant.org.

Katie and Rivka run The Children's Theater at the Arkansas Arts Center. Rivka is a Little Rock native, while Katie is from North Carolina. They both perform with Improv Little Rock at The Joint and The Public Theater. Uppity Women is hosted by Stephanie Harris, founder of Women Lead Arkansas, a non-partisan nonprofit whose mission is to empower women and girls to engage in politics, policy, and leadership. This podcast is meant to showcase women (and men!) doing cool things; be a place for hard conversations we need to have before we can make progress (race, politics, feminism, etc.); bring people together to figure sh!t out and get stuff done; and generally thumb our noses at anyone who would tell us what we may or may not do as women.
