Send your questions or provocations to Adam or Budi here!In this episode, join Adam and Budi as they review our third book for the 2024 TOO Book Club, 'The Empty Space' by Peter Brook.Peter Brook is one of the most innovative British directors of the post 1950 period. His industrious and celebrated career began in London's wartime club theatres and he joined the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in 1945. His career flourished after the war and he increasingly staged plays in London, Stratford-upon-Avon, Brussels, Paris and New York. In 1961, he became one of a triumvirate of directors at Stratford's Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC). While he is often recognised for the experimental workshops and productions he staged while working there, he has also directed classical and contemporary texts, musical comedies, opera, and films including Lord of the Flies (1962) and Meeting with Remarkable Men (1979). 'A number of his stage productions have also been filmed, including The Mahabharata (1985) a nine-hour epic that was developed over a period of ten years and adapted from the sacred Vedic text of the same name. This final work was one of the productions that developed from the collaborative and multi-cultural work done at a centre Brook founded in Paris in 1970 called the International Centre for Theatre Research (ICTR). At this centre, Brook continues to research, direct and produce work in collaboration with an internationally mixed company of performing artists who share his desire to create and perform a universal theatre language. The war in Ukraine may have distracted you from the US war in Afghanistan. A war that lasted 20 years and cost nearly 2 trillion dollars. You can likely remember the images seen on TV from August of 2021 of Kabul airport as the US pulled out. 1000s of Afghans rushed onto the tarmac of Kabul International Airport, so desperate to escape the Taliban that they were clinging to military jets as they took off. This all happened as the Taliban enforced their rule over the Capitol. War has horrendous costs, but so does abandoning allies. After a few weeks of scheduling conflicts, Andrew and Jerry are back, and better than ever! They talk about this week's debate between Dr Oz and John Fetterman, and what Marvel villain Fetterman bears a striking resemblance to. But then they shift gears, and talk about both the concept of why Fetterman is unfit to serve as a senator, and the Democrats' slavish adherence to the surreality of the world.Andrew demonstrates why the claim that both political parties are being dominated by the extremes is nothing more than a myth, and how political science academics have made mainstream conservative values appear to be extreme, in the face of progressive extremism. Jerry talks about the problem of voters choosing flash over substance, and both raise a stinging rebuke of actions of Maryland Governor Larry Hogan in the 2022 midterm elections. Finally, Andrew and Jerry talk Halloween plans and entertainment. Jerry thinks he is done with Marvel, and they both decry the craziness of the DC universe. They talk about gender-bending in Live Theater, and Andrew talks about the Animaniacs.

Finn is the founder of VR, AR and video game production company Chicken Waffle (creator of VR games including Baby Hands and Shadow of Valhalla); co-founder of virtual music concert company The Wave XR; and VR-based comedy club Failed to Render. I caught up with Finn before he headed down to Art Basel Miami where he planned to show off some of his work in metaverse art. This conversation covers a lot of ground: we cover how far virtual reality (VR) has come in the last few years, and the opportunities as it expands into AR and new hardware like smartglasses (e.g., Snap Spectacles)--and then get into some of the new experiences that involve art, music and even comedy. We talk about video games, and applications for the blockchain and NFTs to support creators across this ecosystem. This is a conversation I know you'll enjoy if you are intrigued by any of these topics.
Two Events down, one to go. The Harvest Festival is coming to an end, as only Daisy's Show remains. How will our heroes cope with the pressures...of Live Theater? Once the curtain is drawn, Daisy's Father gives Daisy an impossible choice...well... not impossible, just super duper inconvenient and bloody. Meanwhile, Rufus returns with info about this so called "Sammy Realm Destroyer", and sheds some light on his true identity. Afterwards, Rufus, Sanguine and Mogwai discuss...contingencies. Sanguine plots ways to ensure the safety of herself and her loved ones. Mogwai tries one last time to open the door to Mary's heart, and finds a window. Daisy basks in the glow of his public, weighs the disastrous options presented to him, and has some Father Son "Bonding" with Bandon. Stay Tuned till the end of the episode for our special Epilogues! In this episode, I talk to TJ Davis of the Pickleville Playhouse in Garden City, Utah. TJ and his family founded and run the Pickleville Playhouse and TJ writes for, and acts in, the plays and deals with the business side of the Playhouse and the Pickleville brand. We talk about how TJ came to be involved in the family business (hint: it wasn't in his first or second plan), the growth of Pickleville, Garden City, and Bear Lake, and the joys and challenges of live theater in a rural community. We end, as always, with the Road Trip Music Question.
With restrictions eased, theaters from Broadway to Boston pledge that productions will be back on stage by the fall. But exactly what that looks like for audiences and actors is still being figured out. Ally talks with Broadway actress and South Shore native Mary Callanan and Zoe Bradford, co-founder of Norwell's Company Theatre.

Kiira Benzing's Loveseat was an ambitious fusion of live theater performance with VR technologies that premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2019. They performed live for the audience in Venice while wearing VR headets as their performances were simultaneously broadcast within the virtual reality environment of High Fidelity (back when they still had VR components before their pivot to spatial audio).
