I am Guided (Identity Series)Isaiah 30:21 “And your ears shall hear a word behind you: “This is the way; walk in it,” when you would turn to the right or the left.”This is a great verse because it explains that we are guided throughout our lives. However, it can also be misleading. Unfortunately, we can't really take this verse literally. We do not have someone whispering into our ears each step of the way. Although that would be pretty cool. Imagine if you didn't have to wonder if you were taking the right steps. Imagine if you didn't have to worry about making the wrong decision because you had the Lord whispering in your ear telling you whether you were to turn left or right.Although we don't have someone behind us whispering in our ear at each turn, the Lord will lead us in the right direction if we take the time to ask Him and then listen to what He has to say. This can be tricky because many times, we will be good about asking God what we should do but then not take the time to listen to His answer. Other times, we are so excited about one of the choices that we jump in and choose that one without even pausing to ask God what He thinks. When we do either of these things, we are not giving the Lord a chance to guide us into the life He has planned for us. Hearing the word of God is something we can all do. We just have to know how to do it. In my Encounter Ministries class last night they went over the various ways that you might “hear” God's word. There are four ways:See it: Sometimes people see visions, and that is how they get their answers. Sometimes, you might see a word above someone's head. You might see something that is not actually there in the natural world. I know when learning inner healing our teachers told us sometimes God may ask us to do a prophetic act. You might be praying over someone for inner healing, and while praying, you see that they have a spear through their heart. You might feel as though God is asking you to take it out. You are likely the only person who sees this spear. That doesn't make it any less real. When you are looking for an answer from the Lord, ask Him the question and then close your eyes and see if He wants to reveal anything to you through your sight.Hear it: Usually, when we hear God, it is not God's voice. My teacher last night said she had heard the voice of God once, so that is pretty cool. However, I think it is rare that you hear the actual voice of God. In my experience, when I hear the voice of God, He sounds just like my voice. It is that “still small voice” in your head or in your heart that helps you know what you should do. I am sure you have heard this voice before. However, you might not have known that it was God talking to you. When you are seeking answers from the Lord, ask your questions and then sit quietly and listen to see what He has to say. If you ask, He will answer. Feel it: Sometimes, the Lord speaks to us with our feelings. There is a woman in our prayer group who feels things from the Lord very frequently. She will get a word of prophecy and then will go on to say that she is getting this strong feeling from the Lord that He is sad and wants us to turn to Him more or that He has this deep longing. Last night, at the Encounter Summer Intensive, we were doing a guided meditation using the parable of the prodigal son, and she said she could just feel this overwhelming love that the Father has for us. She said she had never felt a love like this before. It was such a strong feeling. When you are looking for answers from the Lord, they may come in the form of a feeling, so pay attention to how you are feeling when asking the Lord what He thinks.Think it: This is when a thought just pops into your head. Sometimes, it can be when you are sitting trying to listen to the Lord, and other times, it can just be out of the blue. Have you ever been going about your day, and all of a sudden, you get this thought to reach out to an old friend? Yep, me too! This is the Lord prompting you. A lot of times, we ignore these thoughts. However, when we obey and reach out to the person we find out that was exactly what they needed. I had been thinking about reaching out to someone I had met on retreat for several months and I just never did. I am not sure why I didn't, but eventually, she reached out to me, and she was having a rough time. I bet she would have really appreciated it if I had reached out when the Lord first told me to. Last night, this woman was walking out the door to come to the summer intensive, and she got the thought to bring this specific prayer card with her, so she threw it in her purse. The prayer card was a prayer about entrusting your children to God and not worrying if they will come back to the church. Then, at the Summer Intensive, one of the ladies shared that she was worried about her kids never coming back to the church, so the woman gave her this prayer card. God has a plan, and sometimes, He will put thoughts in our heads to help Him with that plan. The teacher who was talking about these four ways to hear God's voice last night was saying that she was sitting in church one day, and the Lord brought a thought out of nowhere about a funeral she was at where there was a teen suicide. She did not understand why she would have this random thought in the middle of mass. Then God revealed to her that the teenage boy behind her was contemplating suicide. Sometimes, you never know the impact of what you did for someone else. Sometimes, you might get a prompting to call someone, and you do. You could have a very nice conversation and yet you don't feel like there was any great purpose in the call. However, we don't know the effects it might have had. There was a purpose for God putting that thought in your head, that I am sure of!I hope that you find these four ways of hearing the Lord's voice helpful. If we want to grow in our ability to hear the Lord's voice, we need to practice, just like anything else in life. If you want to be better at a sport, you need to play that sport. If you want to be better at cooking, you need to cook. If you want to become better at hearing the Lord's voice, you need to sit down and listen often. I promise you the Lord wants to talk to you. God didn't just pick a few of His children to talk to. He wants to talk to all of His children. He wants to sit down with you as you drink your morning coffee or tea and have a chat with you. A real back-and-forth chat. Your heavenly Father loves you, and He longs to communicate with you. Why not give it a try? What do you have to lose?Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today. Lord, help us to hear you communicating with us. No matter the method, Lord, we just want to have a relationship with you. We want you to whisper in our ear and lead us down the correct path. Tell us whether we should turn right or turn left, Lord. Help us to make time for you, to listen to you. We want to hear your Word, Lord; please help us. We love you, Lord, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. I look forward to seeing you again tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you, and so do I! Have a blessed day!Today's Word from the Lord was received in July 2024 by a member of my Catholic Charismatic Prayer Group. If you have any questions about the prayer group, these words, or how to join us for a meeting, please email CatholicCharismaticPrayerGroup@gmail.com. Today's Word from the Lord is, “My children, my love follows you always to wherever you go. If you fall into darkness, I am there with you. If you rejoice with me, I delight with you. Today's witnesses are from the Encounter Ministries website. Encounter Ministry has healing services as well as several conferences throughout the year. These testimonies are all from people who attended either a healing session or their conference. I love that Jesus is still healing today. I don't think everyone knows this or believes this. This is why I think it is so important that we are constantly reminding people of that amazing fact. Nothing is too hard for Jesus to heal. It is also important that we remember it is not just physical healing but emotional and mental ones, too! If you have a loved one suffering right now, it is not too late, and it is not too severe. God is the God of the impossible. He can heal them, just ask.Diana- In June 2017, I was diagnosed with Relapse Remitting Multiple Sclerosis. My symptoms started in December of 2016 when I got my first lesion in my neck. From that day until the healing session, I had not had a single moment without extreme discomfort from itching, burning, shocks, buzzing, twitching, weakness, etc. Since the healing, I have had none of those. I have been able to reduce my medications to the levels they were pre-MS. I am scheduled for MRIs and am looking forward to seeing if the lesions are still there or if they've been healed, as well as my symptoms. I will admit I was highly skeptical going into the session, having been anointed by a priest and several other healers praying over and for me throughout the years. Praise God, I agreed to try. He has worked a miracle. I am not 100%. You try laying in bed all day, every day for 6 years, and see how much stamina and strength you have. I had to relearn how to walk without my previous balance issues from MS. I still fall down occasionally, but I get back up with a laugh and a joke.Joan- During the Healing Session with Father Mathias, he mentioned Autoimmune Disease. He also mentioned eyes. At that precise moment, my eyes were flooded with moisture. Previously, I have been treated for chronic eye dryness from Raynaud's Disease. My eyes were so dry that I instilled drops 6-8 times a day. I was not asking for that, but that is what happened to me. I'm so grateful. God is good and faithful. It was an unforgettable conference!Karen- Before attending the North West Encounter Conference in 2019, I had a vision while praying of Jesus on his knees, washing my feet, and looking up at me with a look of completeness (meaning total absolute or fully carried out, thorough). Jesus then stood up and placed a white heavenly cloak/mantle around my shoulders. I had this vision several times during the weekend conference. While this was going on, during the sessions on Saturday, I was suffering greatly from a migraine. I have suffered migraines since I was a little girl. (I am currently 58). Sometimes lasting 2 to 5 days and up to 7 days at a time. It had been a miserable experience. However, it was especially challenging at the Conference as I was trying to stay focused and open to the Lord. By the time Saturday night came, I was physically sick and in tremendous pain from my migraine. While being prayed over earlier by the Encounter Team, I saw Jesus declaring over me that I no longer need to carry two crosses. One of the crosses was that of my own, and the other was that of my daughter, who is in a wheelchair. The vision allowed me to see two crosses lying side by side. Immediately, I felt lighter by recognizing this! Also, I was taken back to a childhood memory of falling, and I thought, perhaps this is the root of my migraines. Having talked to one of the team members, I was encouraged to consider staying until Saturday night instead of going home because of the pain. I believed that Jesus had something more in store for me. I decided to stay and press through the pain. During a time of praise and worship, Fr. Mathias came through and placed hands on my head, and prayed for more of the Holy Spirit. I knew then I was to receive Grace upon Grace from Jesus. I began to experience chills while also experiencing an inner warmth. Even after I went home that night, I continued to experience the presence of God in my body for some time. And, then I noticed it – my migraines disappeared and have not returned since that day in June 2019. I am writing this Testimony of Healing nearly a year to the day later to testify and give all the Glory to God for my personal healing, both physically and for the special love that he has for me and you! Though I do get headaches occasionally, they are less frequent and short-lived as I continue to pray and claim Jesus' healing over my life, and sure enough, they go away in his precious name. Praise God for the Grace of Jesus living in us! Many Blessings and Love to and for the Encounter Ministries.Jeremiah 17:14. Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise.Alexis- I had an incredible encounter with God! I was physically healed, internally healed and spiritually filled. Praise the Lord! I came to the Summer Intensive not really knowing what to expect. I was invited by some ladies at Church. I am a Pentecostal to Catholic convert, and I came from a very charismatic evangelical church. At this conference, I started raising my hands in worship again. I had done this before, but not since I became Catholic seven years prior. On the third night, the physical healing night, the speaker asked if anyone was in physical discernible pain. There was a storm that had passed through earlier that day, and my body ached. I was in a car accident in 2005, and I injured the cervical vertebrae C5 in my neck from whiplash. I had been living with headaches and pain for years. I have been going to the chiropractor more than once a week for the last fifteen years. The second major injury to my spine occurred in the summer of 2019 while I was strawberry picking with my son. I had bulged a disk in my lower back L5. I had to go to physical therapy for six weeks after that to help strengthen my back. The physical therapist had told me to think every time that I bent down that I had about one hundred thousand more bends left for the rest of my life and to use them carefully. My middle back was also aching, most likely from picking up my forty-pound son. I have also had lung issues for years and had trouble taking deep breaths. Each of these physical ailments was healed one at a time. The women praying over me were amazing, and they began to pray fervently. My middle back was healed first. Then, it felt like something was removed or lifted off from my chest, and I could easily take a deep breath. Then, something was released in my lower back. I bent down, expecting the familiar twinge, but it was gone. I could move freely. Lastly, I felt something being removed from my neck, and I felt the release. Everything that I had asked to be healed was healed. I was no longer in physical discernible pain. The most amazing part for me was that I could sense the presence of my deceased husband, so I knew he was praying for me. This was confirmed when one of the women who was praying for me shared a vision of the heavens opening up and my husband's hand touching me in all the places that I was healed. The fourth and last night was the internal healing night. I have suffered a lot of loss in my life. When I was seven years old, my little sister died, and my parents divorced. I became very good at building an internal wall to protect myself. My husband died in 2016, three days before our only son was born. But the most recent loss that hit me like a ton of bricks was the loss of one of my students. I am a high school science teacher, and one of my Physics students died in a car crash in March 2019. The day after she got the highest grade on the Unit Test in my class, I was so excited to tell her that all of her hard work had paid off. Then I got the news that she had died that morning from complications from the accident, and it hit me harder than I expected. When the prayer team came around to pray, I sank to the floor and cried. Then I received a vision of a dam blocking the flow of water that was starting to crack, and it was preventing the source of the water from pouring out abundantly. They began praying for me, and I felt the dam burst out of me. The wall was gone, and the fountain of life and joy was free to pour out of me. I just kept saying AMEN in confirmation! I was really moved by the last speaker of the night, Sarah. Through praying with her, I had an image of myself as a child sitting on Jesus' lap, loved and safe. Jesus spoke to me in this place and said, “Come here often, and I will give you rest.” I had found the source of healing, strength, joy, peace, comfort, and so much more. I came to the conference very defeated, empty, and angry as a Catholic. I did not want to be Catholic anymore. I left the conference healed, refreshed, renewed, and filled with the Holy Spirit!Thank you all so much for sharing your stories, and thank you to Encounter Ministries for displaying them on your website so that all of our faiths can be built up by them. No one wants to get injured while away at a summer intensive, but the reality is injuries are an unfortunate part of dance. Some dancers will come into an intensive already dealing with an injury, while others may suffer an injury while away at the intensive. Incredible Voices from the Past! Plus: David's Amazing Summer Intensive Returns August 8 - 11, 2024 Today, David and Rhonda are joined by Dr. Jill Levitt, the Director of Clinical Training at the Feeling Good Institute in Mountain View, California, and two incredible voices from the past: Dr. Karen Radella, a clinical psychologist who volunteered to do personal work at the 2013 summer intensive at the South San Francisco Conference Center, and Jacqueline Ong, LCSW, who volunteered to do personal work at the 2019 summer intensive. That was the last summer intensive, due primarily to the Covid pandemic. Karen Radella, PhD But here's some fantastic news. The intensive returns again this summer, from August 8 to 11, 2024, at the same location. And Karen and Jacqueline give testimonial today, along with Rhonda, to the magic of the intensive, by describing the phenomenal impact of the personal work they did years ago, and the tremendous impact that work has had on their personal and professional lives. Both Karen and Jacqueline had been suffering from the devastating emotional impact of severe personal trauma for many years. Nine years earlier, when Karen's daughter was 12, she asked Karen if she could go out to play after dinner. She'd done this for years, but Karen had the thought that it was late and cold outside, but gave in and let her daughter go out to play. Minutes later, some neighborhood boys snuck up on her and shot her in the mouth with a high-powered pellet rifle that blew out one of her teeth and did considerable damage to her mouth which triggered PTSD and required many dental surgeries to correct. Both Karen and her daughter had been suffering emotionally for the nine years since that incident. Karen was telling herself that she was a bad mom, that she “shouldn't have” let her go out to play on that particular night, and that her daughter's horrific trauma was her fault. She was also convinced that other people, including the 100+ in the audience that evening, would be judging her as harshly as she was judging herself, and her feelings of fear and despair were palpable at the start of her live work. Karen described the techniques that were so helpful to her in her fantastic recovery that evening during her two hour session with Jill and David, including the Survey Technique, which she said was the “coolest experience of my entire life.” She was also helped by other techniques, including Explain the Distortions, the Double Standard Technique, and the Externalization of Voices. Jacqueline had suffered a different but equally severe traumatic event of a personal nature, but also disclosed it and worked it through with great courage in front of an audience of the same size in 2019. Like Karen, she experienced a complete elimination of her symptoms in the 2 hour session with Jill and David. She describe the keys to her suffering and recovery involved perfectionism (the need to be flawless) and perceived perfectionism (a term David coined that refers to the belief that others expect us to be perfect in order to be loved and respected.) Jacqueline emphasized that “failing as fast as you can” is one of the keys to the rapid recovery we so often see in TEAM. Instead of meeting once a week for an hour, which sets you up for very slow progress with relapses between sessions, you use technique after technique in one session until you find the one that works. Of course, following “recovery,” your negative thoughts will return over and over throughout your life, because no one is entitled to be—or would even want to be—happy all the time. But once you've experienced your own enlightenment, you know the tools that work for you, so you get better and better at heading off the relapses at the pass. Jacqueline and Karen both said they'd heard that the personal work at an intensive can be life-changing, but they “wouldn't have believed it” until they experienced it. Rhonda said, “I saw both live demonstrations. My first intensive was also the 2013 intensive when Karen did her personal work and saw Jackie's work at the 2019 intensive. I cried my eyes out with both of you at those intensives. After watching David and Jill's personal work with Karen at the 2013 intensive, I decided that TEAM was the therapeutic method I wanted to learn, and that's why I've dedicated my life to learning, practicing and teaching TEAM.” David, Jill and Rhonda hope YOU can attend the magical intensive this year. To learn more, you can just go to www.CBTintensive.com. This year you can attend in person OR online, since the program will be live-streamed. In the past, David has done all the teaching, but this year, David and Jill will do their dynamic “tag team” teaching made famous by their weekly free training group at Stanford. It is now online and is free for therapists around the world. It is Tuesdays from 5 to 7 PM west coast time. If you are interested in joining, contact Ed Walton, edwalton100@gmail.com. You could also join Rhonda's Wednesday TEAM training group that meets over zoom from 9-11:00 am. The timing of this group is more convenient for therapists from many parts of the globe. If you are interested in the Wednesday group, please contact Ana Teresa Silva, ateresasilva6@gmail.com. We hope to see you on August 8 at the South San Francisco Conference Center. But move fast if you want to attend in person, since seating will be strictly limited for those who wish to attend in person. The Lord Is Close To The BrokenheartedPsalm 34:17-19 “The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.”Yesterday I talked about how the Lord is with us to deliver us. If you are going through a hard time this can be hard to hear. You might want to believe it and yet you find it hard to see in your own life, especially if you have been struggling for a long time. Maybe you have witnessed God delivering your friends from their situations while you still struggle with yours. This can make it really difficult to believe that God is with you or that He will deliver you. Sometimes we can be delivered from a situation quickly. For instance, we pray for our child's fever to go down, and it does. However, sometimes it can take a long time to be delivered and sometimes the way we are delivered is not the way we wanted to be delivered. I know how hard it is to hear that God will deliver you if you are stuck in a place you feel you have been for a very long time. I struggled with parenting my children and in my marriage for over 10 years. It was a very long uphill battle. It was one where you get so excited because something you are doing is working, you are moving forward 2 steps and then the next day you are back 3 steps. I know that is extremely frustrating. I get it. If this is you right now, maybe not the same situation or trouble, but the same feeling of 2 steps forward and 3 steps back I want you to know you are not alone. I have been there and so many others are right there with you right now. If this is you, this verse is for you also.“The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles.” The Lord hears you when you call Him for help. He hears you when you cry out that you are angry with Him. He hears that you are worried and anxious about many things. He hears that you are praying for healing for a loved one. He hears that you want the perfect house. He hears that you want the perfect wedding. He hears that you are struggling and He rescues you from all your troubles. The Lord will rescue you. Even if you don't believe that He will. Even if you don't understand how He will. If you need proof that the Lord will come to rescue you, sit down with a paper and a pen and ask the Lord to show you where He has rescued you in the past. The Lord is the same today, yesterday, and forever. If He has rescued you in the past, He will rescue you again. The next line says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” I love the imagery of this line. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.” I just picture sitting on the Lord's lap as I once sat on my dad's lap. I picture us as little children, going to our heavenly father with a broken heart. I picture Him scooping us up onto his lap and pulling us in close for a hug. Close your eyes and see if you can picture your head on His chest, just listening to His heartbeat. Just be there in His loving embrace. Can you feel the warmth of His body and the strength of His arms that are holding you tight? Can you imagine how safe you feel in His arms? This verse is talking about you. You are the “brokenhearted.” God is talking to you. No matter what you are going through, God is near you. He never leaves your side. The next time you feel alone, the next time you feel like God has abandoned you, sit down and imagine Him right there with you. I imagine you are sitting on His lap and He is holding you. The other day at prayer group one of the ladies and a vision of herself sitting on the Father's lap. She said she was filled with love and then she felt the need to get down so that she wasn't taking up all His time. She wanted to make room for someone else and He told her to stay. He said something like, “Stay my daughter, do not worry. Right now I am holding all my children to my heart.” God is holding you, even when you can't feel Him.The second part of that line says, “He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” Are you spirits crushed right now? Were you hoping for something and it didn't happen? Were you praying and you can't seem to find any answers to those prayers? Were you sure God would rescue you and yet He does not appear to be rescuing you? If so, this verse is for you. God rescues those whose spirits are crushed. It doesn't say those who believe He will. It doesn't say God rescues those who never gave up hope. It doesn't say those who weren't angry with Him. It says God rescues those whose spirits are crushed. If this is you, know that God is with you and that He will rescue you. The Bible doesn't lie and there are no exceptions. God is not talking to some of us and not all of us through the Bible. The passages in the Bible apply to each and every one of us. The Lord is speaking directly to you through His Word in the Bible. The last line in this verse is, “The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.” We talked about this a bit yesterday and here it is again. This verse is telling us that even if we are a really good person. Even if we are doing all the right things, and following God's law, we will still face many troubles. Life is not going to be easy just because we follow the Lord. We will face trouble. The difference between us and someone who is not following the Lord is that we don't have to face that trouble alone. The Lord is with us each step of the way. An image just came to mind of a child standing there with our heavenly Father standing right next to the child. He was holding the child's hand and the sense I got was that we are like that child. As we go through life, as we face the many challenges we will face, our heavenly Father is right there with us holding our hand. I don't know about you, but I love the idea of my heavenly Father holding my hand as I walk through life. I love the idea of Him being right there next to me. I feel safer knowing if I wanted to run toward danger, He would be able to hold me back because He is that close to me. God is that close to you too! He is right there. If you can't see Him, if you can't feel Him, that's ok. Can you believe He is there? Can you talk to Him? Can you listen and see what He has to say to you? God is there, there is not a doubt in my mind about that. I know He is there because I have seen Him so often in my life. However, even if I had never seen Him in my life, I would know He is right here with me because it says it so often in scripture and the Word of God is factual. This verse is true. “The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.” The last timeline is important to remember. It doesn't say the Lord comes to the rescue sometimes. It says, “The Lord comes to the rescue each time.” Yes, He is coming this time too!Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today. Lord, we thank you for always rescuing us. We thank you for staying close to us even when we push you away. Thank you for never leaving our side Lord. Thanks for being a good, good Father to each of us. Lord, we ask that you help us see how you have rescued us in the past. Lord, we ask you to show us where you are now in our situation. We ask you to give us renewed hope that you will in fact rescue us from whatever it is we are struggling with. We love you Lord and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. In case you did not hear yesterday, registration is open for the retreat that I am hosting from October 8-9th. It will be an awesome time of filling up on the Lord's love so we can then go out and share that love with others. If you are feeling like you could use a little more love, I hope you will join me. If you have ever wished you could have a deeper, more intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father, I hope you will join me. I look forward to meeting you here again tomorrow with three witnesses. All three things happened at the Encounter School of Ministry Boston Campus' Summer Intensive and they are all wonderful. Remember Jesus loves you, and so do I! Have a blessed day!

I am GuidedIsaiah 30:21 “And your ears shall hear a word behind you: “This is the way; walk in it,” when you would turn to the right or the left.”This is a great verse because it explains that we are guided throughout our lives. This can be tricky because many times we will be good about asking God what we should do but then not take the time to listen to His answer. Other times we are so excited about one of the choices that we jump in and choose that one without even pausing to ask God what He thinks. When we do either of these things we are not giving the Lord a chance to guide us into the life He has planned for us. Hearing the word of God is something we can all do, we just have to know how to do it. In my Encounter Ministries class last night they went over the various ways that you might “hear” God's word. There are four ways:See it: Sometimes people see visions and that is how they get their answers. Sometimes you might see a word above someone's head. You might see something that is not actually there in the natural world. I know when learning inner healing our teachers told us sometimes God may ask us to do a prophetic act. You might be praying over someone for inner healing and while praying you see that they have a spear through their heart. You might feel as though God is asking you to take it out. You are likely the only person who sees this spear. That doesn't make it any less real. When you are looking for an answer from the Lord, ask Him the question and then close your eyes and see if He wants to reveal anything to you through your sight.Hear it: Usually, when we hear God it is not God's voice. My teacher last night said she has heard the voice of God once, so that is pretty cool. However, I think it is rare that you hear the actual voice of God. In my experience, when I hear the voice of God He sounds just like my voice. It is that “still small voice” in your head or in your heart that helps you know what you should do. I am sure you have heard this voice before, however, you might not have known that it was God talking to you. When you are seeking answers from the Lord, ask your questions and then sit quietly and listen to see what He has to say. If you ask He will answer. Feel it: Sometimes the Lord speaks to us with our feelings. There is a woman in our prayer group that feels things from the Lord very frequently. She will get a word of prophecy and then will go on to say that she is getting this strong feeling from the Lord that He is sad and wants us to turn to Him more, or that He has this deep longing. Last night, at the Encounter Summer Intensive we were doing a guided meditation using the parable of the prodigal son and she said she could just feel this overwhelming love that the Father has for us. She said she has never felt a love like this before. It was such a strong feeling. When you are looking for answers from the Lord, they may come in the form of a feeling, so pay attention to how you are feeling when asking the Lord what He thinks.Think it: This is when a thought just pops into your head. Sometimes it can be when you are sitting trying to listen to the Lord, and other times it can just be out of the blue. Have you ever been going about your day and all of a sudden you get this thought to reach out to an old friend? Yep, me too! This is the Lord prompting you. A lot of times we ignore these thoughts. However, when we obey and reach out to the person we find out that was exactly what they needed. I had been thinking about reaching out to someone I had met on retreat for several months and I just never did. I am not sure why I didn't but eventually, she reached out to me and she was having a rough time. I bet she would have really appreciated it if I had reached out when the Lord first told me to. Last night this woman was walking out the door to come to the summer intensive and she got the thought to bring this specific prayer card with her, so she threw it in her purse. The prayer card was a prayer about entrusting your children to God and not worrying if they will come back to the church. Then at the Summer Intensive, one of the ladies shared that she was worried about her kids never coming back to the church, so the woman gave her this prayer card. God has a plan and sometimes He will put thoughts in our head to help Him with that plan. The teacher, that was talking about these four ways to hear God's voice last night, was saying that she was sitting in church one day and the Lord brought a thought out of nowhere about a funeral she was at where there was a teen suicide. She did not understand why she would have this random thought in the middle of mass. Then God revealed to her that the teenage boy behind her was contemplating suicide. Sometimes you never know the impact of what you did for someone else. Sometimes you might get a prompting to call someone and you do. You could have a very nice conversation and yet you don't feel like there was any great purpose in the call. However, we don't know the effects it might have had. There was a purpose for God putting that thought in your head, that I am sure of!I hope that you find these 4 ways of hearing the Lord's voice helpful. God didn't just pick a few of His children to talk to, He wants to talk to all of His children. He wants to sit down with you as you drink your morning coffee or tea and have a chat with you. A real back-and-forth chat. Your heavenly Father loves you and He longs to communicate with you. Why not give it a try? What do you have to lose?Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today. Lord, help us to hear you communicating with us. No matter the method Lord, we just want to have a relationship with you. We want you to whisper in our ear and lead us down the correct path. Tell us whether we should turn right or turn left Lord. Help us to make time for you, to listen to you. We want to hear your Word Lord, please help us. We love you Lord and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. I look forward to seeing you again tomorrow. If you are local and you want to join the Encounter Ministries Summer Intensive, it is not too late! CLICK HERE to register for Summer Intensive. We are going over God's prophetic word today and I know it is going to be amazing! I hope you can join us! Remember, Jesus loves you, and so do I! Have a blessed day!

Welcome back to the Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning Podcast, EPISODE #132 with Barbara Arrowsmith Young, an incredible woman from my hometown, Toronto, Canada, who is otherwise known as “The Woman Who Changed Her Brain”[i] Watch this interview on YouTube here. In this episode, you will learn: ✔︎The heroic story of Barbara Arrowsmith-Young that Dr. Norman Doidge, the author of The Brain That Changes Itself says is “truly heroic, on par with the achievements of Helen Keller.” ✔︎ What specific learning challenges Barbara noticed by 1st grade, and how she struggled through school during the time of the “fixed” brain, before the concept of neuroplasticity. ✔︎ How her parents prepared her for the legacy she would create years after she graduated from OISE’s Faculty of Education in Toronto. ✔︎ How a Russian neuropsychologist Alexander Luria and psychologist Mark Rosenzweig would help her to find the solution she was looking for to overcome her learning challenges and change her brain. ✔︎ What is the Arrowsmith School and Program that serves schools in educational institutions in worldwide? ✔︎ How you can connect with the Arrowsmith School to learn more about their programs to change student’s brains. Welcome back, I'm Andrea Samadi, a former educator who has been fascinated with understanding the science behind high performance strategies in schools, sports, and the workplace for the past 20 years. If you have been listening to our podcast, you will know that we’ve uncovered that if we want to improve our social and emotional skills, and experience success in our work and personal lives, it all begins with an understanding of our brain. I first learned about Barbara Arrowsmith Young when researching for Brian Fact Friday and EPISODE #129 as she was a case study in Dr. Norman Doidge’s book, The Brain That Changes Itself[ii] Dr. Doidge is a Canadian scientist, medical doctor, and psychiatrist who was one of the researchers who put Neuroplasticity on the map and he dedicated a whole chapter in his book to Barbara’s story called “Building Herself a Better Brain” which is exactly what she did. You can read Barbara’s book, The Woman Who Changed Her Brain,[iii] that’s now in its third edition, here. I’ve heard Dr. Daniel Amen say over and over again that “you are not stuck with the brain that you have. You can be empowered to change it for the better[iv]” and Barbara Arrowsmith Young did just that, and more. Her story just below me away. Literally. It was the first time I cried while researching someone, as her story of struggling as a young girl hit a chord for me. The whole reason I do the work I’m doing now, is to help educators or those in the workplace to use the understanding of their brain to improve productivity (whether that’s in the classroom, or the workplace) and when someone is struggling in this area, like many people who have dedicated their life to the field of teaching and learning, most would want to know “why is this person struggling and what can we do to help them past this?” You can watch Barbara Arrowsmith Young’s TEDx Talk, or read her story in Dr. Doidge’s book, to dive deeper into her story, that began when she was told she had a mental defect with her brain when she was younger, would never learn like other children, and would just have to learn to live with these limitations. For those of us who have children who need a little extra help, or who have worked with children with learning disabilities, we know that many times, even though other areas of the brain are highly functioning, and can even appear to make up for those areas of the brain that are not as strong, not addressing the areas of weakness, fixing or correcting them, can cause years of frustration for the child and will show up eventually when the brain becomes tired of working hard to compensate for the weaker areas. This even showed up in my results with my brain scan at Amen Clinics with the X test, or the Connor’s Continuous Performance Test Score where we had to hit a key on the keyboard of a computer every time an X appeared, and not hit it when we didn’t see the x. Dr. Creado who did my test evaluation mentioned that “he has noticed that people who have weaker executive functions in their brain can develop life hacks to help them to focus and concentrate when they need to. But the problem is, that with time, and not working on brain health, or function, it will just become more difficult to keep up with these life hacks. Eventually, the brain will not be able to keep up with the hack which is why it’s so important to look and see what’s happening in your brain. You won’t know any of this, without looking.”[v] Her work, begun in 1978, has been recognized as one of the first examples of the practical application of neuroplasticity which, simply put, is the ability of the brain to change and rewire itself over one’s lifetime. As the Director of Arrowsmith School and Arrowsmith Program, she continues to develop and refine programs for students with learning difficulties. Her vision is that all students struggling with learning will have the opportunity to benefit from cognitive programs utilizing the principles of neuroplasticity, programs that change the brain’s capacity to learn and open to these learners a world of possibilities. The genesis of the Arrowsmith Program’s cognitive exercises lies in Barbara Arrowsmith-Young's journey of discovery and innovation to overcome her severe learning disabilities. Her inspirational book ‘The Woman who Changed Her Brain’ has become an international bestseller and a third edition updated with new research was published in December 2019. Barbara is the recipient of the 2019 Leaders and Legends Innovation Award from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto for her outstanding contributions to education in Ontario. About the Arrowsmith Program The Arrowsmith Program has been recognized by Sharp Brains as the Most Innovative Special Education Program of its kind, identifying and strengthening the weak cognitive functions that underlie specific learning difficulties. The Arrowsmith Program is offered in over 90 educational organizations in 13 countries. Ongoing research with neuroscientists, neuropsychologists and psychologists is demonstrating that the program not only changes the brain, cognitive functioning, and academic achievement but also leads to social-emotional well-being. ‘Barbara’s story is truly heroic, on par with the achievements of Helen Keller.’ Norman Doidge M.D. author of the New York Times Bestseller The Brain that Changes Itself. Barbara Arrowsmith-Young is the founder of the Arrowsmith Program, an assessment process and a suite of cognitive exercises designed to stimulate and strengthen weak areas of cognitive functioning that underlie a range of learning difficulties, which has been delivered for 40+ years throughout the world. Sadly, Barbara grew up at the time when most medical experts believed our brains were fixed, so she had to defy the odds, and find solutions to overcome her learning challenges on her own. She did and created the Arrowsmith School is Toronto where she now teaches other children many of the strategies that she used herself to strengthen her brain. Let’s meet this extraordinary woman, from my hometown, Barbara Arrowsmith Young. Welcome Barbara, I’m so grateful to have found you. It started when I read Dr. Doidge’s book The Brain That Changes Itself and chapter 2 of his book was dedicated to your story. My eyes saw Toronto (where I grew up and went to school) and Peterborough where you were raised, where I still send some Christmas cards to friends and family that way, and now I wanted to know your story. Then I saw your TEDx and the connection grew stronger with my background in teaching (I saw we both attended OISE’s Faculty of Education for our teacher training), and I had an interest in earning additional training in strategies for students with Learning Disabilities. Your story brought tears to my eyes as my focus on for the past 9 years has been to create content to help students/teachers in the classroom to instill a positive mindset for these young learners, and I saw how things were so different before there was such an emphasis on these skills. Thanks so much for being here today. Q1: Barbara, can you share what you were told about your brain, and learning when you were in 1st grade, (mental block) and the challenges you had growing up at a time when doctors believed that our brains were fixed? Q2: What specifically did you have a difficult time with and what did this do to your ability to learn at school (thinking of those students in the classroom today with a learning challenge)? Q3: Things reached their lowest point for you in grade 8 where you just couldn’t see how you could go on with learning being this difficult, but your father, an inventor, helped you to adopt the mindset you would need to soldier on. When I heard what he told you, it made me feel more connected to you. I had a mousepad given to me from a friend back in Toronto as a gift when I was moving to the US, with the exact same saying on it. What did he teach you and how did this help you to move forward? Q4: This is where my mind started to blow up a bit when I watched your TEDx. A bit because I can’t imagine researching before the internet. How did you come across the work of neuropsychologist Alexander Luria and psychologist Mark Rosenzweig[vi] and what did you learn from them? Q5: The final missing piece for anyone who has gone through life with a learning challenge like you, or like me as a parent, watching my youngest child, wondering why can one of my kids sail through school, without any effort, and the other, needs constant support and guidance? Or a teacher out there, wondering what else could we do to help that one student putting in extra effort, without any results. Can you share what are the Assessments[vii] you use at Arrowsmith to identify a learning challenge, and what can they do for a student to help them past this challenge? Q6: This podcast is going into our 6th season, and 3rd year and has a reach of over 148 countries around the world. Our top countries are the USA, Australia next and Canada and the UK not far behind. I saw your participating sites link[viii] on your website, and wonder how schools could become a participating site to access your assessments and curriculum? Q7: What programs can you tell our audience about at Arrowsmith Schools? I saw a powerful video about your Summer Intensive program in Toronto that drew students from around the world (USA, Australia, the UK and beyond). Do you have anything like this coming up? Q8: What’s your vision for Arrowsmith Schools, and on the horizon for you that we should all be aware of? For people who want to learn more about your school, assessments and programs, I have put all of the links in the show notes, in addition to your website. https://arrowsmithschool.org/ Where else can people follow you and your school? Thank you Barbara for taking the time to speak with me. It’s a true honor to meet someone who has made such an incredible impact on the world, that began with an understanding of your brain. I will continue to follow work and wish you much success! In Today's Podcast, we'll be talking with Mundy Hepburn a luminous glass artist who has been making lights since 1976 with over 30 years of experience working in Plasma. In his work, he embraces his inner mad scientist and alchemist with his studio containing several different tanks of noble gases, tubing, valves, gauges, and other dodads. His approach is especially unique in that he uses soft glass, such that seen in furnace glassblowing, to create life-sized plasma lamps and vessels, as well his use of neon torches for shaping hand pulled glass tubing, creating distinct forms and gestures. Mundy has been a great source of wisdom, knowledge, encouragement, as well as having a personality of seemingly boundless energy. I appreciate all he's done as a friend and mentor, and very excited to have him as an instructor at Pittsburgh Glass Center this summer. Without further ado, onto the podcast! Caroline welcomes Samara Gaev: On July 1st, I started Truthworker Theatre Company's 2nd annual Summer Intensive! We have the unique and humbling opportunity to be working directly with Jarvis Jay Masters, an innocent man on death row, who has been incarcerated since the age of 19 in San Quentin Prison, and institutionalized since he was a young boy. Jarvis is working from the inside to be in collaboration with us through our creation process. Every young company member has read each of his two books, Finding Freedom and That Bird Has My Wings, in preparation for this production. We are exchanging writings and even speaking directly on the phone when permitted, calling upon technology to mediate transformational and generative dialogue between Jarvis and the youth. We are all motivated by his remarkable capacity for liberation within confinement. The process has been humbling, beautiful, and opening.
